Part of the Job
Part 1
“ya but we’ll need to find a way to keep him occupied. If we take him out someone might suspect.”
“I can do that easily enough.”
Heero looked at Trowa and then at Duo.
“What? You don’t think I can do it?”
“We can’t screw this up, Maxwell. There’s no going back after this.”
“Fuck you Heero. You guys just do your thing and I’ll do mine.” Dou stormed out of the room.
“You should be nicer to Duo. He’s really into you,” said Trowa.
“All the more reason for us to stay away from each other.”
“Weren’t you the one who told me we have to live by our emotions?”
Heero was silent.
“You can’t hide from him forever. He’ll find out sooner or later. Do you want to wait until it’s too late?”
“We have a job to do.”
*****
Dou found his target as expected at a bar near the mission sight. He took the empty seat next to him and ordered a beer. Duo caught the man give him the once over. Putting that look to the test he reached in front of the man to take a few nuts from the open bowl being sure to lean on him a little.
“Oh, I’m sorry, please excuse me.” Dou said flashing him a coy smile.
“Not a problem,” the mark replied and then whispered under his breath away from Duo “My pleasure.”
‘Too easy,’ Duo thought. He smiled at him again, letting his eyes sparkle. They began to talk politely. Duo worked his magic, touching the other’s arm lightly as they spoke, never missing an opportunity to brush against him when he reached for the bowl or stood for apparently no reason. An hour or so later the bar began to pulsate with music and a crowd had formed on the dance floor. Duo took the man’s hand and pulled him into the crowd. He began to maneuver his target. Letting his body make longer and longer contact as they danced. He could easily see the guy getting into it. His pants were definitely looking strained and he was now initiating some of the touching and holding onto Duo’s arms.
Duo found himself in a dark corner pressed up against the wall. The man was breathing heavily in his ears. Unfamiliar hands stole under the pilot’s shirt crudely grabbing at him. They felt odd against his skin, but he let it happen. ‘Have to keep him busy.’
Duo hooked a leg up and around the other’s hip and pulled him in. The mark bent for the smaller man’s lips. The kiss was vicious and hard. Dou hated it. He suddenly hated everything. The sound of the music, the smell of this man’s beer ladened breath, the hands slowly violating his flesh. Why couldn’t he just kill the guy and leave? Instead he whispered softly into his ear, “I know someplace more private we can go.”
Through the back door of the bar and down the alley they walked. Duo had rented a dank motel room two blocks away. The room was shabby but fairly clean, not much more that a bed and a bathroom.
“Home?” The mark inquired.
“For now,” Duo replied. He pulled open the nightstand drawer and removed a bottle of lube and a few condoms. When he turned the man was right in front of him. He felt himself being pushed back onto the bed. His hands were suddenly thrust above his head and stiffly held there. ‘Oh shit.’ A sinister face stared down at Duo.
“Oh baby, you are so fucking beautiful.” A bruising hand clutched at Duo’s neck. “I’m gonna make you feel me all. night. long.”
*****
It was almost noon before the bastard left. Duo sat up, pain shooting through his entire body. He limped into the bathroom. Checking himself in the mirror, his face was puffy and bruised.
“Son of a bitch. Well, Heero Yuy, I did my part, let’s see if you did yours.”
Stiff muscles complained and he felt…. sticky. He needed a shower. He looked around the small room, ‘Not here.’ He went back, put on his clothes and carefully made his way to the safe house.
*****
Heero looked out the window at the fading light.
“Where the fuck is he?”
They had switched out the documents last night and even confirmed Duo’s target arriving at the sight well after noon, just as planned. Trowa had moved on to part III, leaving Heero to wait alone for Duo.
“Make sure he’s ok.” Trowa’s parting orders.
There was a rustle of keys in the door then it opened and closed with a thud. Heero turned towards it.
“ ‘bout damn…..time” he stopped suddenly as he took in Duo’s battered appearance.
Duo limped past him with out a word.
“What the hell happened to you?”
The braided pilot silently gathered up fresh clothes and made his way to the bathroom.
“Dou?” Heero called after him.
“ I DID MY FUCKING JOB! NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!” Dou slammed the bathroom door effectively shutting out Heero.
He turned the hot water on full blast trying to burn away the imprint of filth that had been left on him. It was getting harder and harder to separate these jobs from himself, and it wasn’t the job that was loosing. He walked through every exercise from his training meant to separate him from what he had just been through, but it didn’t work. In the end all he could feel were the dirty hands on his body and the violations he had endured. He looked down at the bruises that were now forming. Oh Christ the guy had been brutal. He lifted a leg onto the side of the tub and gently brought his hand down to his soar entrance. Wincing, he carefully pushed inside and felt around for damage. His finger came out a little pink but still not as bad as he had thought. He leaned on the back of the shower wall. More than once last night Duo thought he was going to die. All he could hear were Heero’s words, “can’t screw this up, Maxwell.” Well he didn’t. It may have cost him his fucking sanity, but god, damn it, he didn’t screw it up!
He the water had become ice cold so he turned it off and stepped out of the tub. He slipped into his clean shorts and t-shirt feeling their soft, dry comfort. He looked down at his soiled clothing on the floor but couldn’t bring himself to pick them up. Duo turned and took hold of the door handle. He braced himself for re-entering the world. He used to be able to shake this shit with no problem. Slap on a smile and a way he would go. Someht dit didn’t work today. ‘Especially, not with stupid Heero outside the door. I’m so fucking weak.’
Heero let Duo slink off to the bedroom without a word, it was clear the pilot didn’t want to talk. In the bathroom he found Duo’s used clothes. Picking them up, his hand touched something thick and moist. There was blood along the inside of Duo’s jeans. ‘Why is there blood here? If he’d been hurt why didn’t he ask me to dress his wound?’ Heero’s stomach heaved. ‘Shit.’ What had Duo done to keep the guy occupied? ‘No, he wouldn’t…’ Heero knew Duo slept with men but to use himself even for a mission that would be pretty damn… ‘Oh shit, Duo’…Heero reeled as the realization of what Duo had subjected himself to for the success of the mission tore at his heart. ‘This is my fault. I didn’t mean to push him that far away.’ Heero’s pent up emotions about the boy began to surface. He fought them back but only became more confused He didn’t know what to do. Voices shouted in his head “live by your emotions…be a good soldier… Make sure he’s ok …I DID MY FUCKING JOB!”
Heero walked into Duo’s room. The pilot lay on the bed half curled on his side.
“Dou?” Heero spoke quietly.
“What?” The voice was low and raspy.
“Are you ok?”
“I’m always ok.”
Heero left the clothes at the door and sat behind Duo on the bed. He laid a hand on the pilot’s shoulder. Duo shut his eyes and tried to ignore the gentle touch. ‘Don’t Heero,’ he thought, ‘it’s too late to care about me.’ He was breaking inside and he needed to stay together and prove to Heero he was a good soldier, too.
“Why?” Heero asked.
Duo eyes shot open and he glared at Heero with contempt, “Because it’s my job. THIS is what I was trained to do! They get to do whatever they want so we can win. We have to win.” He turned away again, “ It’s no big deal.” The small dark haired pilot’s voice faltered. “I’m used to it. It’s the only thing I’m good at.” Tears boiled up and overran the boundaries of Duo’s eyes. He rolled onto his stomach to hide form Heero.
‘What do I do?’ Heero thought. He watched the small figure beside him trembling under the large mass of tangled wet hair. His heart ached for Duo. But what could he say? Heero’s fingers caught in Duo’s hair. He spied the brush and tie on the dresser and eased himself off the bed to get them. He returned and took Duo’s long silky strands into his hands. Carefully he began to brush through the hair. Starting at the bottom and working his way up until he could take long full strokes without any resistance.
Duo pushed his face deep into the pillow. Why was Heero touching him? Why didn’t he just go away? Everyone had had. He felt such despair. ‘Go away, Heero,’ he thought. ‘You don’t want me. I’m already ruined.’ He remembered the man form the night before, the sound of his laughter, the violence in his touch. Duo felt the bile creep up from his stomach. ‘I don’t want to do this anymore. Please, please make this stop,’ he silently begged. He pushed the memory from his mind and felt the gentle tugging and stroking of his hair. It was comforting. As his own weeping subsided Duo was surprised to hear stifled sobs from behind him.
Heero was crying. Had he never cried before? He let the overwhelming feeling of helplessness take him. His hands divided the mass of hair into three parts and began to weave. This was it. This was all he could do, slowly turning hand over hand feeling the length of Duo’s hair. Everything inside of him let loose. No more perfect soldier. No more hiding from Duo and his feelings for him. With every twist and turn of his wrist the walls around his heart came crashing down. When he was done he carefully tied the braid off and lay down next to Duo. “I love you,” he whispered.
Duo felt the warmth of Heero’s body beside him. It never mattered if he was even alive when they were doas las long as the mission was successful, cause there was no one to come back to. An arm hesitantly came to rest across him. Duo reached back and pulled it up around him, their entwined fingers coming to rest just below his lips. ‘Heero, please save me.’

Part II
Heero wasn’t sure how long he had been lying next to Duo when he felt Trowa’s hand on his shoulder. He motioned for Heero to follow him. Heero covered the sleeping pilot with a blanket and met with Trowa.
“How is he?”
“Don’t really know. He just kinda came back and collapsed. Did you know? The kind of missions they send him on?”
“Sort of. They sent me with him once, but it had to be aborted before anything happened. Duo wouldn’t tell me why. Heero, I didn’t come back just to check on him. We have a problem. Quatre and Wu-fei are grounded in some kind of storm. They can’t make the rendezvous. I need you to come with me to finish it.”
“Ok, give me a second.”
Heero’s heart sank. He wasn’t ready to leave Duo just yet. There were too many things they needed to talk about and he didn’t think Duo should be left alone. But if he didn’t go then the mission would fail and Duo would have suffered for nothing. Heero entered Duo’s room. He leaned down and touched Duo lightly.
“Duo?”
“Hunh?”
“Duo. I have to go. Can we talk when I get back?”
Duo turned to face Heero and nodded, “Ok.”
Heero bent down and kissed Duo’s forehead.
“Be careful,” Duo whispered. ‘No dying on me, Heero, not now.’ he thought.
“Get some rest.”
Then he was gone. Duo tried to go back to sleep. There was a void in the bed beside him. He tried to recall the warmth of Heero’s arm around him, his hands through his hair and the words he thought Heero would never say, “I love you.” He sat up with the blanket wrapped around him. ‘I couldn’t say anything back. It was just too hard.’ He pulled up his knees and rest his head on them. ‘All I wanted was to feel his energy burn within me.’ There was a quiet beeping in the next room. Duo knew what that was. He unwrapped himself and slid to the floor. In the next room sat a computer blinking happily. Duo tapped a few keys and the mission came up. It was for him.
*********
As Trowa and Heero drove down the gravel road in a large cargo truck the sky behind them lit up into brilliant oranges and yellows and billowing clouds of black smoke. The force of the blast shook the ground they drove on.
“So, you two looked awful cozy, did I interrupt something?\"
Heero looked out into the darkness surrounding them.
\"I don\'t know. He was just hurt and angry. He wouldn\'t talk. I don’t think he enjoyed his part of the mission.\" Heero tasted the bile backing into his throat as his mind conjured horrific images of Duo being violated. “Why is this so hard? I can self-destruct easier than I can watch Duo in pain. He shouldn’t have to do what he does.”
The truck came to a hard stop pulling Heero’s attention from the night to the driver.
“Neither should you,” said Trowa.
They turned off the gravel road onto the pavement and picked up speed.
“Dou’s a survivor, Heero. He’s seen hell and he’s not about to go back there. Trust him. Just be there for him. Let him know how you feel. It’ll make you both stronger.”
\"I can’t. I can’t talk to him, like I talk to you. Hell, I waited until he was bleeding and screaming at me before I told him how I felt.\"
\"But you told him.”
\"Ya well. I said the words but ...I don’t know if I have anything to back them up.\"
“Duo’s been waiting for your heart to open. Now that you have don’t give up so easy.”
The truck stopped at another juncture of roads.
‘A mile down this highway is a small town. You should be able to find transportation there. If you’re lucky you can get back to Duo before 1 am.”
Heero hesitated a moment before jumping down from the truck. He waved his thanks to Trowa and took off down the road.
**********
Heero entered the safe house quietly. He knocked on Duo’s door ad slowly peeked in. He didn’t find Duo there,
“Duo? You here?” he called out. On the table he saw the computer and read Duo’s mission. The word accepted typed in across the screen.
*****
Duo was on the balcony watching for his mark. It was 1:30. He’d been in the club an hour and still hadn’t seen him. ‘Tonight might be a bust’ he thought. The waitress brought him his drink as he scanned the door. He spotted a familiar face but not the face he was looking for.
“ Fuck!”
“Problem shug?”
“My god, damn boyfriend.” Duo flung a few dollars at the giggling waitress and set off towards Heero.
Heero didn’t see Duo anywhere. How could he in this room packed full of gyrating, groping bodies? He watched as a stunning raven-haired man stalked towards him. He wore a white button down shirt stretched over his exquisite form and a pair of loose black slacks that hung on his hips just showing the edge of his hip-bones. He was taken aback when he realized it was Duo.
“Thought you weren’t coming.” He yelled at Heero over the crowd. He gave Heero and exasperated look. Heero stood dumfounded and silent. Duos grabbed his hand and drug him to the dance floor. He wrapped his body around Heero’s and whispered, “Just move when I move and pretend your enjoying it.” Duo’s hands slid down to Heero’s hips and guided them into a suggestive sway in time the music. The music pulsed in Heero’s ears and he found his body followed naturally to Duo’s small pushes and pulls. Duo leaned heavily against Heero’s chest and began nuzzling Heero’s neck just below his ear.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he said, his voice laced with agitation.
“I… um I….God, Duo… do you have to do that?” Heero moaned as the body swaying and touching him drew a heated response.
“It’s called blending in. If you didn’t want to play you should. not. have. come.”
Heero looked around and had to admit they did look like every other couple on the dance floor.
“Ya but…”
“Hey you’re the one fucking up my mission,” he ground hard into Heero’s hips. “ Deal with it.”
Heero tried to relax and not think about what Duo was doing to his body.
“ so…. you’re here because?” Duo began planting small kisses on Heero’s neck.
“You were so fucked up earlier. I didn’t know …” Duo’s lips just brushed over Heero’s, “ what you….”
“Slide your hands up into my hair and then kiss me.”
Heero did as he was ordered. Taking a firm Hold of Duo he tilted the boy’s head back and dived inside his mouth. Was this a part of the mission or was this Duo wanting to be kissed?
“mmm not bad, soldier boy. Now let’s turn a little to the left. I think I see our man.” As the two bodies slowly turned Duo peaked aver Heero’s shoulder and spied a tall man with short brown hair reclining at a table alone. He was intently watching them dance. ‘I wonder.’ Dou made eye contact then attacked. Heero’s back arched and his head fell back as Dou pawed roughly at his ass and ran his tongue up Heero’s neck and down again in an aggressive display of desire.
“Ungh! Du….”
“Shhhh.” Duo hissed. He smiled wide and laid his head down on Heero’s shoulder as they swayed together, never breaking eye contact with his target. The man raised his glass to salute Duo’s performance. “ I think he likes our little show, He-chan. You may prove to be useful after all.” He pulled in front of Heero and took the taller pilot’s face in his hands, “You have to trust me and do as I say, Ok?”
Outside of maneuvering his Gundam, Heero had never seen Duo more confidant or more in control as he was here. It troubled him. Heero gave Dou hesitant nodd as the friction between their bodies was making him speechless. Duo pushed the hair from Heero’s eyes and smiled genuinely. “It’ll be alright.” He gave Heero’s lips a small kiss and stopped their dance. “Go to the bar and get a coke with a lime slice, and a beer. Then bring them over to us.”
Heero walked off the dance floor in the opposite direction of Duo.
Duo sauntered over to his quarry and slid up next to him.
“You liked that.”
“Best show on the floor tonight.”
“Thanks,” Duo beamed. He looked over at the bar so see where Heero was. He was still waiting for the drinks. Duo smiled and leaned against the seated man. “Wanna see more?” He pushed his leg between the seated gentleman’s legs with a suggestive questioning motion.
The man calmly looked at Duo and then at Heero at the bar. “I don’t think your friend will agree.”
“Him? Ya he looks all tough and moody but this body can make him do anything.” At least he had read the target right, but what would push him over the edge? Duo leaned in and whispered in his ear. “Tonight’s his first time.” Duo could almost hear the perverts pants tightening as the man considered the offer.
“How much is it going to cost me?”
‘Bait taken,’ Duo thought as he smiled. “200, my choice of hotel, you don’t get to touch either of us or tell us what to do.”
“You sound like a pro.”
“Hey, I don’t like to work and he gets cranky if I don’t have my share of the rent. Is it a deal?”
He took another look at Heero over Duo’s shoulder.
“Deal.”

“Deal.”
