Chapter 10
And the Plot Thickens

These are the chronicles of life and death and everything between.
These are the stories of our lives, as fictional as they may seem.
You come in this world, and you go out just the same.
Today could be the best day of,
Today could be the worst day of,
Today could be the last day of your life.

Duo’s view

I waited for what I knew was coming. I waited as Heero was forming the words in his head. We sat together side by side on the plane. The fact that he ‘suggested’ it, told me that he wanted to talk. I knew he wasn’t dumb, he was going to question what happened in the truck, then again I could be becoming paranoid with guilt... unless that’s exactly what he wants me to be. He wants me to confess everything.... unless he really had no idea and what he wants to talk about has nothing to do with FEI and I. I mean, Heero really isn’t dumb, but he has known to be dense.

“What happened between yourself and Wufei while I was away?” Bye bye, to the dense notion.

“What do you mean?” He just stared at me. I had to tell him, and I planned to do just that when the timing was right. But with a Heero in fist swinging range on my left, and the plane’s wall and window to my right, I knew NOW wasn’t the right time.

“Heero, not here, please.” He stared at me for a few seconds longer before giving me a small nod. Oh, how I wished I could see what he was thinking right at this moment.

The rest of the plane ride back to headquarters remained in a very uncomfortable silence. After we landed Wuff had to say goodbye to his blonde friend. We couldn’t have him, a regular civilian, come with us to our home base. So, after we ditched the long blonde one, we ‘borrowed’ a cab and headed ‘home’. I avoided Heero by volunteering to drive as Quatre sat next to me and gave out directions.

Trowa’s view

As soon as we got back to headquarters we were directed to go see not our boss, Ms. Noin, but the head of the agency, the person who is one spot below Mr. President in rank (though anyone here can tell you that it seems to be the other way around), Lady Une. We were told to go see Lady Une, before we did anything else. Lady Une was your typically looking woman so it was amazing to believe she controlled one of the leading secrets agencies in the world. She didn’t look like a powerful leader. Her figure was plain, and her face was soft, as was the voice she spoke with, she reminded me of a girl I used to work with in the circus. This girl was one of the six female acrobats in our company, and she too had very plain looks.

The meeting with Lady Une was very similar to the one we had with Mr. President, except she didn’t show much reaction to the knowledge of being set up, twice, or that someone who had appeared to be working long side Mr. President, a Mister Treize Khushrenada, was behind or part of most of it. Instead, she said that the agency had been getting suspicious of Mr. Khushrenada for several months now, and she wanted a fully detailed report on any and all conversations that he had with us as well as anything we had observed while in his presence. Since I had very little contact with him I didn’t think to much of the task. Quatre also didn’t have much of a reaction to it either. Wufei was looking down at the ground harder and harder with every word she had said. Heero remained to look indifferent but his fists were clenched at his sides. Duo looked downright bored throughout the whole thing, even after Heero had given her a brief description of what happened over this past week.

Brief being the optimum word. To anyone else who had listen would of thought it was very thorough, and Heero did describe, in good detail, much of what happened from the point of being cornered in that old building and then being captured, he easily moved on to Wufei rescuing us and then skipped to going to Mr. President. He retold parts of the conversation that took place between Mr. President and ourselves, though he only quoted things pertaining to his recap. He told of the revelation of it all being a trap, and then melded to conversation that had concerned Mr. President’s daughter. Then he told on how he prepared for the mission, He told what happened at the second mission, completely leaving out who did what, and just stuck to events, and he said the word ‘we’ only twice. It seems, he wanted to leave out the fact that we had sustained any injuries. And it made me wonder what he planned to do for his written report. He repeated more dialogue that happened between himself and Khushrenada, though I could tell he was leaving big chunks of it out, only stating that Khushrenada told him that he planted several bombs in Mr. president’s estate. He then told of how he went back, gathered up everything and everyone in the immediate vicinity, and we quickly left to come here.

Lady Une gave us her thoughts on everything including her already deep seeded suspicions of Khushrenada. She then asked if we had anything else to add. After a short moment of silence, Heero responded ‘No.’ I looked from Lady Une to Heero and back again. She knew he was hiding something, you could see in not only in her eyes but how she slowly ground her teeth in barely noticeable circles. After Heero had told her ‘No’. She dismissed us.

The tension now surrounding the five of us was chokingly thick. I looked to Duo, knowing he would be the one to speak first. There was so much to be said after all. Duo stopped walking so we all stopped. He was looking at the ground while he spoke.

“Pointless. It was all pointless.” He was referring to every mission we were ever given. Or at least I believe he was.

“Don’t think of it like that, Duo.” Quatre said from my right.

“Was any of it real? Was anything besides the danger to us, even real?”

“Duo, now is not the time nor place to discuss this.” Heero cut in.

“Oh, and when should we, before or after the next bullshit mission we go on all for the sake of some bastard’s sick agenda?” Duo was glaring at Heero at this point.

“Duo , I know you’re upset, but...”

“Aren’t you?!”

“But, NOW is not the time nor the place to be talking about it. I want to see you all in my room in one hour.” With that, Heero began walking again. Duo turned and stated heading in the opposite direction.

“Duo, come with me.” Heero stopped walking as if waiting for Duo to follow.

“Not now, Heero.”

“Duo, come with me.” Duo looked angry again. They seemed fine on the plane. Then again Duo hadn’t said anything the whole trip over so really that was more of a sign that something WAS wrong between the two. But why was Wufei looking so worried? It’s not like it’s the first time those two have fought before.

“Heero, you’re not the leader of me when we’re not on missions, so back off.”

“Duo, I’m not asking you as your leader but as your friend.”

“You weren’t asking and you know it, Heero, and if you want to ask me something AS a friend then do it!” Insert pin dropping silence here. All eyes were on Heero as he slightly nodded to either himself or Duo.

“Duo, would you come with me, please?” Duo just huffed and mumbled ‘I tried’, as he made his way towards Heero.

Heero’s view

I wasn’t in the mood for Duo’s childish methods of avoidance. I wasn’t even interested in whatever was going on between himself and Wufei at the moment. All I cared about was being able to get everyone together in a ‘safe’ area where we can catch each other up on anything and everything concerning the last 24 hours of our lives. I didn’t feel that outside of the office of Lady Une was the place to talk. Nor was anywhere in this building.

I walked silently into my room, Duo trailing a few paces behind, with one thought coursing through me.

From now on we all have to be a lot more careful, I do not trust Lady Une.

I set myself down in my computer chair and Duo leaned against the doorway. I just tilted my head at him. he got the point and entered, shutting the door, and taking a seat at the end of my bed, across from me. So many things were going through my head that I had almost forgotten why I had asked him to follow me in the first place. Almost.

“Why did you kiss me?” Duo’s head snapped up so fast after hearing my question I thought it would break off. He then opened and closed his mouth few times. Obviously this was not the topic of discussion that he thought he was going to try and avoid. The fact that I had seemed to have left him speechless spoke volumes of what he was really thinking and feeling. I knew I had to listen very carefully to whatever Duo planned on saying next for is it very rare that he takes the time to choose his words before he speaks them.

The seconds ticked a away and still Duo stayed silent, I was beginning to wonder if he really did hurt himself when he lifted his head up.

“I don’t know what you want me to say.”

“I want you to answer the question.”

“I don’t have an answer.” Now I was the one left speechless. THAT MADE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean... I don’t know why, well, I know ‘why’ but I don’t know why I chose then out of all the times I could have chose to do such a... such a bold thing like kiss THE Heero Yuy. And you know you can’t pin this all on me cause I remember quite clearly that you didn’t pull away or push me away or anything.” I never knew anyone who could talk their way around answering a direct question so effectively.

“Duo, it happened less then two hours ago, of course I remember it.”

“Hey don’t be playing the name game with me now, buddy, now why didn’t you push or pull away from me?’

“Why did you kiss me?”

“I asked you first.”

“Duo.”

“You didn’t pull away from the kiss because of ‘Duo’?”

“Duo, if you’re going to play this childish game then let me remind you that I was the one that asked you, ‘why did you kiss me’, right after you entered the room, and sat down, in other words, first.”

“Are you really that dense?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, damn it Heero, why do you think two people kiss, huh?”

“I’m not asking you why people kiss, I’m asking you why did you kiss ME.”

“For the same reason that people do, cause they want to, I wanted to kiss you, okay Heero, I kissed you because I’m attracted to you and I like you a lot and I have wanted to kiss you for a very long time and I don’t know why I choose two hours ago to do it but I did and I.. did. Now tell me why you didn’t pull away.”

“And you call me dense?”

“What!” Duo, stood up as did I. I took a step toward him and I saw him tense up.

“Duo, didn’t you just get through telling me why people kiss, well, why do you think they don’t pull away when this happens? They don’t pull away because they don’t want to.” I took another step closer to him.

“Heero.”

“Duo, I didn’t pull away because I didn’t want to.” I closed the small gap that remained between us. Duo’s eyes were getting larger by the millisecond. I could feel my own heartbeat quicken. I have never felt anything quite like what I did at that moment. I felt like everything was possible and that for the first time I had no idea what my next move was going to be. I didn’t think I was going to enjoy not knowing as much as I did. In fact, I loved finding out first hand what Duo lips felt like for a second time as they touched mine and comparing it to the first time.

The first time was quick and soft and barely had any physical feel to it at all. This time I felt I had to take a quick breath before Duo’s lips meshed against mine since I had a feeling I would be needed that extra air for later. The pressure was uneven, causing our lips to quiver against each other. When we finally found an angle that fit I felt Duo’s mouth move slightly as he took in a breath, never breaking contact with me.

I felt his tongue hit my lip and I instinctually licked back at his.

That lick was my downfall.

I heard him talk in another short breath and I felt him break lip contact with me all together. I knew the kiss had ended. Yet, he still felt it necessary to say,

“Wait,” I did. “Shit.” He was looking down.

“Duo, what’s wrong?”

“Heero, please just listen to me, okay?”, He eyes flashed up to mine as I nodded and then they darted back down again. “I have... I have to tell you something.” He got quiet again. But right when I thought he wasn’t going to say anything without some sort of prompt from me he said. “I have to tell you about what happened between me and Wufei.”

Wufei’s view.

That idiot better not tell Heero anything concerning that whole bathroom... incident, we had. Heck, only the idiot himself doesn’t seem to be able to notice that Heero would love to be more then friends with the dope. Of course Heero isn’t any better, for one reason or another he still chooses to remain oblivious to Duo’s obvious want for him. I mean Duo can be borderline clingy sometimes. Flashbacks of when Duo had wrapped his arms around Heero’s waist while we were back at Mr. Presidents place, came to mind. Heero had seemed so relaxed then. Maybe they both prefer to be ignorant to each other’s needs. Weird.

That was my last thought before I was roughly pushed up against the wall of my room by Heero Yuy.

“How dare you, Wufei.” His voice was low and strained, his face was an inch away from mine. So, from what I could tell, the idiot had indeed told Heero what took place between the two of us in the bathroom. Great. But why was I the one being ‘scolded’? Duo is just as guilty here as I am, right? Then I noticed that Duo wasn’t here. Maybe Heero already ‘dealt’ with him. But Heero wouldn’t actually hurt Duo. Then again I never thought he would try to hurt me either.

“If this is about Duo, then let me just point out that it takes TWO people to do what we did so he’s just as much to blame...”

“Don’t give me your shit, Wufei, you molested a teammate, the only one in...”

“That’s going a bit overboard, Heero, what happened was consensual.”

“Then why did he tell you to stop if he wanted you to touch him?” I froze. Did Duo say that! Yeah, well, even if he did...

“Look it’s not like I wanted to!” Heero let go of me then.

“Then why did you do it?” The raw sound of confusion in his voice would have made me laugh if the conversation wasn’t so serious.

“Does the name, Treize Khushrenada, ring a bell?” I asked. Heero’s head moved forward and then back slightly, his way of telling me to continue and explain.

“HEERO DON’T KILL... Wufei... ers... why are you not killing him?” Duo entered the room and was now pointing at me as he posed the question to Heero.

“Why should he kill me?” I asked.

“Because you raped me!”

“No I didn’t.” He paused a moment.

“Fine, you molested me then, same difference.”

“No I didn’t, and there’s no use in you acting like the victim now, when you sure as hell didn’t then.” Duo was about to retaliate when Heero cut in.

“That’s enough, Wufei, tell me what happened.” He said.

“I already told you what happened.” Duo said. We both ignored this comment as I began to tell Heero what really happened.

“I was washing my hands when he entered the bathroom...”

“Wait.” Heero said, I stopped. Now it was Duo’s turn to look confused. For he had no idea that Khushrenada had anything to do with it. “Don’t tell me now. Wait till the others come an hour from now and tell us then.” I nodded in agreement. I didn’t want to retell the story more then once anyhow.

“When who entered?” Duo asked anyway.

“I’ll tell you in an hour, now get out of my room.” I wanted things to be okay between us again. No matter how annoying he is, he is still my friend. Duo looked me up and down for a second as if he was considering the same notion.

“Why, were you about to go cyber with Blondie before we came in?” Okay so I knew who he meant when he said ‘Blondie’, but ‘cyber’, I had no clue what that meant. But I couldn’t let that show. After all, I was standing in front of a kid who has had NO proper education, whilst I have.

“So we’re on good terms again?” Even though I don’t think asking was all that necessary I felt compelled to do so anyway.

“Well, I figured since Heero didn’t beat you into many bloody bits that maybe there must be a good reason as to way you felt the need to sexually harass me.” He grinned a thin grin after he said that. I decided it was best not to comment on the ‘sexual harassment' jib.

“Wow, you’re a lot smarter then you look, Maxwell.”

“And you’re a lot gayer then you look, dick licker.” With that his smile went huge. And I had to admit though I am smarter, his tongue was sharper. But none the less, it was good to have ‘that’ tension finally dissipate. Now, if only I could fix the tension between me and Trowa this easily.

Quatre’s view

It felt good to be around familiar surroundings again. I laid out on my bed and tried to process everything that had happened over the last couple of weeks.

It all started off with that fake mission. Then we were ambushed. Which tells me the whole thing was set up. So someone sent out a fake mission just so they could capture and question us. I had to give the bad guys credit, they were getting and more clever as time went on. Lets see, after that, Wufei rescued us. Then we went to that random motel. Then we got word to go to Mr. President. Though why was he informed about our mission from the start. He’s just a figure head, he doesn’t get involved in the nitty gritty stuff such as the layout and details of each mission that each squad goes on. Though now that I think about it, he got the information on our ‘real’ mission pretty quickly, many too quickly. Plus he didn’t know the mission was a set up till after Heero told him, so why did he have the file for the ‘real one’. I highly doubt he keeps up to date records of every mission a squad gets. Then there was that whole, ‘my daughter got kidnapped’ thing.

Wait, what did happen on Heero’s mission, I mean did he find the girl or not? And if not where is Mr. President’s real daughter?

Wait! Did the ‘white’ house really have bombs in it? Did it explode? What was the purposes of scaring us out of the house, when originally we wouldn’t have even gone there at all? Was it a test? What’s ‘their’ goal here? Who are ‘they’? And how far back does this deception go? Am I even safe HERE?

I sat straight up. I suddenly didn’t feel safe in the room that I have lived in for the past three years. How far back does this go? How many innocent people have died just so these people can manipulate us into... well I don’t even know what they expect from us? And the last thought I had before I decided a much needed nap was in order was... Does them contacting us now mean that are pleased with our ‘progress’ thus far... or are they highly disappointed? I’d say disappointed ... what with them trying to now kill us and all.

I fell into a very uneasy sleep after that.

I was woken up by Trowa some forty minutes later. He told me it was time to go have that meeting in Heero’s room. And here I was hoping it had all been a dream. I nodded and crawled out of bed. When I stood Trowa ran his hands through my hair. I wasn’t sure if he was trying to mess it up or fix it.

“Come on, let’s go.” I said. I removed Trowa’s hand and continued to hold it in mine as we made our way to Heero’s room.

As expected, Duo was already in there when we entered. We were a few minutes early from the scheduled time, so we waited for our fifth member to show. When he did, we then all turned to Heero. Instead of talking he just handed me an d piece of paper. With Trowa leaning in on my right and Wufei on my left we all read the following.

I think we can agree that we are no longer safe in this house. We are no longer safe anywhere. I also think it would be unwise if we updated each other on everything we know, as well as come up with a new course of action, out loud. So this is what we are going to do. (This was Maxwell’s idea) We will write it all down, what we know, any questions we have, everything. To both write and read this confidential material, we will be under the safety of the covers on my bed. We will take turn, going under the blankets with a flashlight and writing/typing down everything we know, then we will take turns reading what each of us has written/typed. I know this will be long and tedious, but it is the only way we can at least try and become a step ahead of our enemy. -Yuy

I looked up from reading. I didn’t know if I was allowed to say anything out loud concerning what I just read, so I kept quiet and waited to see what Heero would do next. He just ushered Duo under the blanket on his bed.

So, for the next few hours we spent taking turns writing everything we knew. Heero had set up his laptop on his computer and he assured us no one would be able to hack into the terminal he had opened up for us to write in. When all was written down, we all then took turns reading what the others had written. I read about Duo going into some closet back in that shelter place, that smelled really awful, I guess to the point that he passed out. I read about Heero being tortured the say way as Duo had been but instead of using some piece of pipe, his torturer had used his fist. I read nothing that I already didn’t know from Trowa’s view. I read about Heero’s fake mission and both his and Wufei’s meetings with Khushrenada. I read what that man had more or less, forced, Wufei to do to Duo. I also read in Duo version of events on how he had kissed Heero. It was about time those two got it on. I didn’t know what to think about all of the other information I had just taken in. It all seemed like so much had gone wrong in such a small length of time. And although we were now all caught up on what had happened in the past, it didn’t bring us any closer to figuring out what we were going to do in our future.

“If you have any suggestions on what course of action should be taken next, write it.” Heero had said a few minutes ago, so far, no on had moved. Then I surprised even myself when I got an idea. I quickly moved under the blanket and typed the following:

You all know there will be nowhere where we could/ can successfully run and hide. We also know at least one of the people who is working for our enemy, I say we use him to find out who is really behind all this and do what we were trained to do, kill them.

I know, you would have never expected me to ever suggest to kill anyone, but it was part of our training... to be able to take a life, without showing any remorse or emotion. Though I have never succeeded in such a thing in the past (though I have also never killed any one with my bare hands... shot a few people), after reading what my comrades and I have been put though at the experience of some sick man’s game. Yes, I felt that I could kill without showing remorse or emotion. I could kill the person that caused all this. As each of the guys came back out from reading my message I could see it in their eyes that they felt the same way. So it was settled. We had a plan... sorta. We had a main objective at least, so that was something. Now it was up to our leader on how we were going to go about fulfilling that objective.

Naturally Heero said he needed some time to think on the matter some more. We all did. So we said our goodnights and left the room. I followed Trowa back into his. We didn’t say much to each other since we knew we couldn’t discuss our thoughts or feelings or anything, that had to do with anything that had taken place these past couple of days.

So instead we just made out (kissed), a lot. Trowa’s reassuring lips on my own gave me the hope that together we could do this, together everything could be made right again. I fell asleep with bruises on my lips, a song in my heart, and a prayer in soul, one wishing that everything really would end up all right.

I woke up to the sound of gun fire. Trowa and I sprung out of bed at the same time. Both of us landing on the floor. Trowa crawled over to his duffel bag and took out his gun. Shit. My gun is over in my room. Trowa then stood up as did I . And together we made our way over to the door. Ever since the initial gunfire that had woken up was heard, we didn’t hear any more shots being fired. Trowa slowly opened the door. With his gun exiting first, he slowly stepped out of the room. He looked both ways and then signaled that all was clear.

Together we slowly made our way down the hall. Then I heard movement behind me. I signaled for Trowa to turn around, since without a gun I was pretty defenseless. But it was too late, by the time Trowa turned around the firing already started. And if whoever was shooting wasn’t such a bad shot, we would have been dead by now. Dead at least three times over. We ducked into the nearest room. Trowa took five shots at the attackers. HIS shots hit true with at least one of the shooters fell to the floor soon after; dead. The shooting then stopped all together then we heard the sounds of our attackers retreating. That’s odd. They have us cornered in a room... or they would of had, and there seems to be more of them then there was us, so, why did they run away? Then I heard Trowa’s sharp intake of breath and heard him mutter ‘Jesus Christ’. I dared to poke my head out of the room then. I looked at the body on the ground, at where Trowa was now looking and I echoed his ‘Jesus Christ’.

Laying on the floor, dead, was the body of Jason... something. He’s thirteen and I often would see him in the cafeteria, he had a way of talking you into buying him food. He’s thirteen. Still a trainee. Would be going on some real missions real soon. Or at least he would have... if he wasn’t dead and staining the carpet. He’s thirteen.

“Why...w..why did you...why was he... Trowa what the fuck is going on around here!” It was our own... well we weren’t comrades exactly but we worked for the same company, we lived under the same roof, heck, we were on the same team, so why, what, how come... why, why did he try to shoot us, why was he attacking us? Why did HE attack us? It just didn’t... doesn’t make sense.

We heard more firing then. It was coming from somewhere close by. And it was getting closer. We heard the footsteps as they approached. And Duo came into view. He had his back towards us and was firing ahead. Then more people came from the other side of the hall. Trowa aimed his gun at them. It was more twelve and thirteen year olds. Over the gun fire I yelled to Duo.

“Duo, was the hell is going on?”

“We’re being ambushed, a mutiny, an extermination, their getting rid of us, Quat, that what’s going on.” I wanted to ask why but knew that NOW wasn’t really the time for questions. Trowa tried to push me back into the room. But I knew I would be useless just standing round here without a weapon. Duo had finished off the last guy on his end so when this happened I took the chance to run to my room. Of course having Duo cover my back as I did so. But as soon as I entered my room more people had been hiding inside it. I had to ducked and sprint back out and behind Duo to avoid getting shot this time. Duo took out the brats that were in front and well as inside of my room and then I finally entered my room, Duo guarded the door. But then we both heard Heero yell. He was yelling for back up, he was yelling for Duo. Duo shot me a glance, a plea, and I nodded in understanding. He then left the doorway of my bedroom. I already had my gun in hand so I didn’t really need his help anymore anyway. I made my way back to where I had last left Trowa, but he wasn’t in that hallway anymore, or in any of the rooms in that hallway. So I turned around and decided to follow the sound of the gunfire instead.

As I walked along I found my way into a more secluded part of the complex. As I walked by a door I heard a semi loud voice coming from the other side. It was what the voice was saying, that made me stop and listen.

“Can’ ’t play by my rules then they can’t play at all!, Nope, if they can’t play nicely then they can’t play. Gotta end the game see, they just had to go and ruin the game. Or maybe I ruined it. I knew I should never had send the imbecile Khushrenada to go and shake things up. He was suppose to set them against each other, suppose to make sure they paired up right, but NOOO...” The person on the other side of the door was the one in charge of Khushrenada , but were they behind everything that had happen to us? Are they the ones behind all those fake missions, all the pain and... and ... and overall all the shit we’ve gone through over the years since joining this damn agency!? Was the person on the other side of the door the cause behind all that!? There was only one way to find out. With my gun raised I entered the room.

Just like in the movies the person had their back to me. They were sitting in the chair, I knew they were, and the chaired was turned so the person was facing the window ahead of me. I aimed my gun at the chair and got ready to fire. (of course I planned on saying something before I did, I was just getting ready , to be on the safe side)

“Hello Mr. Winner.” My eyes narrowed, but then they widened back up to normal size. That voice, now that there wasn’t a door between us the voice sounded... female. I’m not sexist, I just really wasn’t expecting a female. And a female it was. She laughed and turned around in her chair. I was expecting there to be a gun in her hand and for it to be aimed at me. But she didn’t. But I didn’t fail to notice that she did keep one hand from my view. So I keep one eye on the arm attached to it and one on the woman’s face.

I recognized the face immediately. Though before, she had her hair down and no glasses. The woman before me did have glasses and her hair was pulled back into a painfully tight looking bun.

“How nice to see you again.” She said.

“Lady Une,” At first I had no idea what to say, I wouldn’t have if I wasn’t train to be able to handle or try to handle any situation. “Why?” I should have shot her then and there. even though she didn’t even confess to being involved in anything, I knew she was and I should have shot her then and there. But I didn’t, I didn’t because I wanted to know why she was playing with us, why she sent us on fake missions, why she had us kill all those innocent people, and more importantly why was she trying to hurt us now, why did she want us to turn against each other, why was she now sending people to come kill us, why, why, WHY?

“Why, Mr. Winner, I think you need to be a bit more specific than that.”

“Why are you trying to kill us?” I waited for her to deny it.

“Because you’re no longer playing by my rules.” WHAT!

“What?” I tried to keep the shock out of my voice. I tried to strip myself from all my emotions.

“You were suppose to pair off and kill each other and you didn’t, you’re all still working together and I can’t have that, it’s too dangerous to keep it that way.”

“Why do you want us to kill each other?”

“Because I only needed two of the best assassins working under me.”

“We’re not assassins.”

“Yet.” So we really were being trained to kill. They never ordered us to, (besides the whole Mr. President’s daughter, thing that just happened) .

“But why, what do you need assassins for, why us?”

“I needed to have the best two assassins working under me, so I could attract the attention of all the others assassins so they would want to come and work for me. And do you want to know why I choose you, Quatre Winner.” She still hadn’t answered why she needed assassins in the first place, but I did want to now why she ‘hired’ me. After all, I was approached by people from this company to join, I was picked to come here. So I nodded.

“I chose you,” She began. “Because you seemed like the last person who would ever pick up a gun and kill someone without a care or thought. You didn’t seem like a killer in the least bit.” But, but...

“Then why hire me?”

“I’m afraid it wont make much sense to you unless I explained it all from the beginning, would you like to sit down?” I didn’t move. “Your arm will get tired from holding that gun up for so long, maybe you should lower it?” She was talking in her nice soft voice again. Before her voice though slightly the same had be devoid of any human characteristics, I felt like I had been listening to the voice that you can program into a computer. But now her emotions were back. I still didn’t move, I kept my gun aimed at her forehead. “Suit yourself.” She said when she saw I wasn’t budging. She then began her story. Her computer voice was back again.

“I was four years old when a man named Odin Lowe, assassinated my father. The man had never even met my father. In court he said he was paid to do it, he held no ill will towards my father. He killed him because he was told to. He gave up the name of the person who sent him, and they got life in prison, while he got twenty years. Twenty years for killing someone in cold blood doesn’t seem long enough to me. I never understood why they gave him a lesser sentence, I never understood how someone could kill a perfect stranger, just because they were told to. I thought it had to take a real monster, a real cold -hearted bastard, to do such a thing. But then I found out that Odin Lowe had a kid. A cold blooded killer was a father. From that day on I thought if someone’s father could become a killer, then anyone could. But I didn’t care about just any killers I cared about the best of the best, the ones that most of the time are never caught, the ones that seem to kill carefully selected targets, the ones that kill not because they believe in what they are doing is right, but simply because they are told to do it...”

“That’s not true.”

“LET ME FINISH!” I flinched and let her finish. I should have just shot her. She had already proven that she was the cause of all this, and that she was crazy, but I guess I didn’t because part of me wanted to know how she had gotten this way.

“So I set out to create a company, a school, and entire empire just for assassins. I wanted all the heartless killers in the world under my control. But to do so I had to lure them in somehow. Make them want to work under me. To do that I needed to have the best work for me. If I had the best then others would want to work for me and to hope to be the best too. But how does one create the best assassin, Quatre?, I didn’t know myself at first, but I knew who was going to be my first test subject. Though his new guardians had change the boy’s name I was still able to track down the son of my father’s murderer. I wanted the son to be a murderer too, I wanted him to be the best. So I found him. I had him trained by the best. Then I found four others. One was a pillager with a kind heart and a soft spot for little children, he told me his story one day, he had seen lots of death in his life, so I knew he could become the perfect avenger, the perfect killer. Then I found a boy at the circus. He was teaching some girl how to throw knifes at this board. He had a very deadly aim. So I asked him to come work for me. Then I saw a boy in the mist of a fight with another boy. The boy who one said he had wasted he time, fighting someone so weak. I knew I could turn his negative view of people into something great, so I asked him to come work for me. Then I found you, Quatre. I saw you helping some lady carry her groceries bags to her car. She tried to give you money in thanks but you refused. I picked you because I wanted to disprove my theory that anyone could become a killer. Though I have to say I am kind of happy I turned out to be wrong. Because here we are Quatre, here we are and you, someone who, before I meant you, probably couldn’t even imagine taking someone’s life, and now had probably entered this room, PLANNING to do just that. Crazy world we live in, huh.”

I took in every thing she had said. So what, she made a company of assassins to prove it could be done. So now what, why was she now, trying to destroy all that she created, WHY WAS SHE TRYING TO KILL US?

“That doesn’t explain why you’re trying to kill us, now.”

“Oh, I guess it doesn’t. It’s simple really. Like I said, I wanted to control all the heartless killers of the world. I wanted them under my control, So I trained the five of you, I molded you into five of the best, and you have attracted many people to join me because they too want to become the best. I wanted all the assassins to join my company, so I used you five as my calling card to lure them in. I’m sure you’re wondering why right? Why do I want to work with people who are like the person who killed my father, why do I wasn't to help and continue to nurture such people. It’s because I want to have all the heartless bastards somewhere where I can see them. I wanted them all in one place. I want to kill them all. I want to kill you all. But not just any of you,” She finally revealed the hand that was previously hiding under her desk. In it, was a detonator. “But the best assassins this world has to offer.” She was planning to kill us all.

“We’re not assassins.”

“Yet, but you are very close to it. But I’m afraid you five where becoming to dangerous, too good at what you do, for me to keep you five together. I feared that you might find out my true intention some day, and then if you did, surly you would kill me, right? So I knew I had to get rid of at least a few of you. So I set up some missions to do just that, but you survived everyone of them. I realized the only way to kill you, the only ones good enough to even stand a chance in succeeding, was yourselves. You all know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, so if anyone could kill you, Quatre, it would be them. Of course I then realized that having you all die, wouldn’t be good for business, I still needed to have the best to attract the others, so I decided to pair you up and have only two of you remain, of course that meant I had to bring in an outside to pair up with one of you, and he really is a talented young man, that Zechs fellow.”

“So what now, you’re back to your originally plan of killing us all, because we refused to kill each other.”

“Exactly, see I always knew you were a quick learner, Quatre.”

“But doesn’t that prove your theory of us, wrong?”

“What?”

“You keep saying assassins are cold hearted bastards, but if that’s true then we wouldn’t have a problem with killing each other if you asked us to.”

“Well, it like you said, Quatre, you’re not assassins, yet. But you have a great potential to be, once you all learn not to rely on your emotions so much when you make any decision, it’s really the only thing still holding you all back.”

“You’re wrong, it’s because of our emotions that make us so good at what we do.”

“It might, but you could be great.”

“You’re wrong.”

“Then shoot me.”

“What?” I should have just shot her.

“If emotions make you so great then use the anger you have towards me and shoot me, assassinate me.” That’s right, she’s the head of a big government corporation, if I shoot her, then it would be an assignation. But wait.

“This won’t be an assassin, I going to kill you because I want to kill you. Not because someone told me to, not to prove your theory on assassins and killing, wrong, I’m not even doing it to stop you from killing everyone.”

“Then why, Quatre?” She seemed generally scared, even though she had a detonator in her hand. Though her finger wasn’t over the trigger or anything. Good.

“I’m killing you because I want you to rot in hell, bitch, for being the reason I have no balls!”

I shot her. I then removed the detonator from her now lax grip. A small explosion went off somewhere in the building below me. That’s right, I’m still in the middle of a mutiny. I reloaded my gun and went back out into the battle field. I tried not to think about what I had just done.

I had saved us all, but I also killed a poor half crazed girl in the process. She was wrong, I would make an awful assassin. It’s true that I wanted to kill her, but did I really have any right to? Did I do the right thing? I didn’t have time to think about it anymore after that, as a group of ten year olds packing Glock 17’s, came at me. In the mists of battle, my views on killing does change. Since they started shooting at me, the only thing I could do (if I want to live, which I do) is to shoot back. I tried not to think about the fact that they were only ten years old or that I had been friends with some of them, as their bodies hit the ground in front of me.

I managed to get around and find the others, without having to gun down too many others. When we all wound up in the same hall, it was then I told them that Lady Une was behind everything, and that she was now dead. Heero said to give them the details later and for now we should all just get out of here. So without even going back to our rooms to get any our belongings. We left the place we used to call our home.

And never looked back.

That was all three months ago. Since then, everything has changed.

A/N: Damn I was hoping I could end it with this one, but I still have a bit more to say, so the last part will either be the next part or the part after that.
