Scene Eleven
The whirring air conditioning sound was all En could hear, her mind had been blank while she had been sitting on the cold training room floor for the last fifteen minutes. She had another look at the blood-stained glove, which has dried and now have this distasteful brown ink-like stain across it.
So I can't fly, and nor can I punch, what can I do then? She thought to herself, then thought back to her previous mid-air attack, that method was only temporary at best and was nowhere near practical as flying. So instead of having the energy coming from my hands, I should get it to come from... underneath me? Her tail lopped around as she continued to ponder, security or not, she did not care, not like anyone would ambush her in this vacant void of space, they would be too obvious. She stood up, and focused the energy out of her palm, forming a sphere from it, then slowly and steadily, she brought it underneath her, her position was like a leapfrog in midair. She felt ecstatic as she felt herself levitate from the floor, but then took a great tumble as soon as she lost focus. She landed on her head painfully.
"Oww." She rubbed her head as she whinged. So using hands to get off the ground isn't practical at all, she thought, it gets me off the floor but it gets in the way when I need to attack people. She then closed her eyes and tried to focus the energy inwards, envisioning it travelling to the pit of her stomach, then quickly push it down to the soles of her feet. She felt herself levitate once again, again she felt the euphoria but dared not to lose focus again, then consciously tried to distribute equal amount of energy with both soles. When she was aware of it, she found herself to be three metres off the floor, with a gasp she landed awkwardly, sprawled out like a gecko.
Hmmmm, that didn't quite work neither. She thought to herself. She tried distributing the energy to both her feet, hands, and even her tail, but they all proved to have some form of disadvantage that prevented her to be able to perform any kinds of actions in the air properly, and the worst part was that she had found it hard to even remain balanced while in the air and ended up falling down again time after time. Think, what did that bastard do before he levitated? En thought. She closed her eyes once again, OK, so he choked me, then backed away, then he was in the air again, but what did he do before he took off? He can't just have floated up like that, what did he do? En recalled the recent footages in her head in slow motion as she thought to herself. He had both of his fists clenched, crouched down slightly but not so low, and then some how there was wind in his hair, there is no way this room can have wind, but some how, his hair looked like he was standing in a windy place, and then he jumped off the floor, very lightly though, not like he was trying to only use the jump to get off the floor.
Wait.
There was a gust of energy flowing from him, all over, not just from one part of his body, that means, everywhere on his body, he has energy coming out of it. En snapped out of her musing and positioned herself in a fighting stance, then slowly straightened up. OK, so all the energy needs to be focused on not just one place, or two places, but it needs to come out from all over, I can do this. She clenched her fists and focused her energy from the pit of her stomach, took a deep breath, then with a roar she powered up properly for the first time in her life. En could feel her hair tumble about from the gusts coming from her, she felt the adrenaline pumping through her system, she felt she could take on anyone right now. With her knees slightly bent, she thought to herself, OK, now go UP! She soared up to the ceiling in a flash and slammed into it with all the impact. As she fell down En dropped and rolled across the floor. Hmmm, have to think about how to stop in midair as well. She thought to herself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Bardock? What are you doing here?" Said Seripa as she kicked Toma across the room with a swift action from her muscular thigh.
"Just giving her some time to figure it out. Go fetch her will you? I'll see you guys in the cafeteria."
"I take it it went well?"
"Let's just say things will get interesting from here on out."
"I want to pump more weights before I head there, go get her will you Toma?"
"What? Come on why me?" Whinged Toma as he rubbed his cheek, which was still sore from Seripa's powerful kick.
"Shush you, I spent enough time on the rookie already, you should have some responsibilities too, oh and you still have to clean the armour 'cause I landed more hits on you today!"
Toma grumbled as he exited. When he entered the training room, he was attacked by En who dropped directly above him and began landing punches and kicks on him despite his protests.
"Stop it you brat! It's me! Bardock told me to fetch you."
Upon hearing the name she did not want to hear, En stopped attacking but stayed put where she was, floating in midair and eyed him suspiciously.
Seeing this, Toma said. "Does that mean you don't want to eat? It's already lunch time."
As soon as he mentioned the word 'eat', En bolted out the door and left him standing there, barely finishing his sentence. En was so excited to be able to eat, and the day had barely begun for her, she was already standing in queue and all she could have her eyes on were the food and could not care less about the Saiyans around her. When she retrieved her full tray, she found Seripa and sat across from her and without saying anything she shovelled food in her mouth, she did not realise how hungry she really was until she started eating, the smell was tantalising and the warmness and texture felt very reassuring as she ploughed through them like an eating machine.
"So kid, I take it that you know how to fly now?" Asked Seripa.
"Yep, and I beat Toma up too."
"Ha! Good one!" Beamed Seripa as she looked across to a pissy Toma, who began munching down his food in a fit of grumpiness.
"Hey that's not fair I didn't know she can fly!" Said Toma as he stuffed more herbed buns in his mouth.
"She couldn't, well not this morning anyway." Said Bardock, as he sat right next to En and started chowing down as well.
Annoyed at the intrusion of personal space, En sat further away from him and continued to crunch on a deep fried squid.
Toma looked at Bardock in disbelief but Bardock just smirked and started on his roast carcass, tearing it apart with his canines and swallowing it in chunks. En ate as fast as she could and left without a word.
"Hey! You're not excused!" Said Toma, who En shot an evil look.
"Leave her Toma, she can't get far anyway." Said Bardock as he took a swig of his jug.
When En disappeared out of sight, Toma turned back to Bardock and said.
"This is ridiculous, she has no respect for any of us! How can you let someone like that on our team?"
"Do you think she respects you Seripa?" Asked Bardock.
"She'd better."
"See? What's your problem Toma? You're the one who doubted her abilities to begin with, it hasn't been a day and she can fly already." Said Bardock as he began to swallow mouthfuls of roasted vegetables.
"Flying is one thing, but do you think she can survive being in the warzone?" Said Seripa, casually taking a swig of her hot drink.
"We'll have to see, come on guys we've all been chucked in the frey before, we've seen worse remember? The infantries at the frontlines? They used us to clear the enemy lines, and look at where we are now." Said Bardock.
"Yes, but remember we underwent rigorous training before we got sent off for missions, and that brat has only been here for a day." Said Toma.
"And she kicked your ass." Added Bardock, smirking.
"Hey I was ambushed!"
"If you can be ambushed so easily by a mere rookie then Toma, you seriously need to up your skills." Said Bardock as he flicked a pea onto Toma's face.
"Argh! You guys are crazy! Seripa, I'll see you back in the training room." Said Toma as he left with a huff.
With Toma out of sight, Seripa turned to Bardock.
"You don't think we're too harsh on him do you? I mean, he doesnt' seem to be taking this newcomer very well." She said.
"Seripa, remember you had your doubts too." Said Bardock, casually scoffing down giant boiled eggs drizzled with tangy sauce.
"Well yeah, but you have to admit, she's got brains that kid, which to be frank, Toma doesn't have alot of, sounds harsh but I reckon he could pick up a lot from her too, just try not to hurt his pride Bardock? We all need to work as a team you know, if one of us starts doubting themselves then it's not going to work." Said Seripa.
"Pot calling the kettle black, and you think you're not the harsh one." Said Bardock wryly, as he slurped a shellfish out of its shell and let out a loud belch.
"The difference is, Bardock, Toma sees me as a comrade, as an equal, so it doesn't matter if I diss him 'cause we do it to each other all the time, but he has a lot of respect for you Bardock, and he feels that En is taking his place, you see what I mean?" Said Seripa, her hands casually placed on top of her mug, feeling the steam slightly moisten her hands.
"'Aren't you the mother hen, why do you think I keep you around?" Said Bardock as he flashed his signature badass smirk.
"Shut up you, I still can't believe you're the captain."
"Ya wanna take my place then?"
"Oh please, I wouldn't dream of it." She said as she took a casual sip from the mug, eyes closed as she enjoyed the deep and flavourful liquid warming up her insides.
"You know you have what it takes, Seripa." Said Bardock, his tone slightly lower at the last word.
Seripa continued to sip, then placed her mug down, mused for a while before she replied.
"Bardock, you know very well why Kabo asked you to take over when he died."
"Don't mention that name Seripa, I warned you." Said Bardock as he gritted his teeth, the words being squeezed through his teeth slowly but seething with defensiveness.
"You know what I'm talking about, and we all miss him, but you can't walk away from your word..."
"I never said I am!"
"Then why the doubts? You've been bringing this up constantly and I'm starting to think that maybe you don't want to lead us anymore."
"Quiet! For fuck's sakes woman must you pry into every single little detail?!"
"Keep it down Bardock they're staring at us."
"Well let them stare, you know, there are days when I wish that I don't have to listen to anybody, don't have to give a shit about anything, and just go out there and do whatever the fuck I want, and what I don't want to do now, is to sit here and listen to your accusation!" Snarled Bardock under his breath, his fists clenched, his canines showing and the energy was seeping out of his body, causing his hair to wave slightly. Seripa sat up, flicked her hair behind her ear, and said to him. "I'll be back." She stood up with her mug, went and got a refill and came back, to see a more calm Bardock. She sat down across the table from him again and took a sip.
"No one's accusing you of anything." She spoke calmly, the beverage steaming her face like a pair of caressing ghostly hands, masking her eyes as they evaporate. He could not see what emotions they entailed. They sat quietly for a while before Seripa broke the silence again.
"You're different in your own way, that doesn't mean you're not good enough as a captain, even he had to learn it from the captain before him, remember?" Said Seripa, careful not to speak of the provocative name again.
"What's the point of everything..." Said Bardock.
Slap.
The entire room halted to a standstill as they all turned and look at the source of the noise. Seripa was standing up with her hand across in front of her, looking sternly into Bardock's widened eyes, who stared back at her in disbelief, his cheek red and swelling up from the powerful impact made from her fleshy palm. Ignoring the crowd, Seripa finished her drink and said to him.
"If you have time to bitch and moan, you may as well put that energy to better use." She then left.
The crowd became rowdy again before Seripa even left the venue as jeers and wolf whistles churned into waves across the room.
"What's the matter Bardock, having domestic issues?"
"Pussy!"
"Hen-pecked!"
He remained there as he watched her disappear from the crowd and she never once looked back, his face still stinging with the dulling pain. Despite how rowdy the crowd were, when he stood up, half the room fell into silence again, the other half slowly continuing the jeering, but at a much lower volume. He swung his head across the room, his tail unwrapped from his taut waist and cracked it in the air like a whip. The whole room fell silence immediately. People moved out of his way as he made his way out the door in a nonchalant manner. On the hallway, he bumped into the heavily bearded Saiyan Mema.
"What's the matter Bardock, got your tail in a twist?" Dissed Mema.
"Fuck off Mema, I got a rookie to train." Seethed Bardock as he continued on his way.
Mema gave him a glare before he continued walking.
End Scene Eleven
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whoa, that was some intense scene there, just thought that I should enlighten more on why Bardock's the way he is, more to come soon.
Also, in case you're wondering why Seripa's drinking a hot drink well, it's already past two in the morning here, and I WANT coffee, I WANT to smell coffee but don't have decafe at home T_T
But the chapter is done, yay!
Stay tuned!
