Summary: Kai follows Rei back to China, but they are closer to Crystallis than they expect. They encounter an enigmatic villager who will change their relationship. Meanwhile, Volten returns closer to Kai than ever before, and the Bladebreakers will reunite in a final bid to save their lives and save Max. Sequel to "Angel and Devil".

Trueangel: *is the only one clapping*

Trueangel: Um... *holds up sign saying "Applause"*

Leon: I see. Well, let's get on with the story!

Trueangel: Yup. *kicks everyone back into story*

Chapter 10 The Crystallis

"Rei, wake up! What's happening?"

"K-Kai?"

"Rei! You've come to! What happened?"

"Oh Kai..."

Rei started sobbing uncontrollably into Kai's chest as Kai held himse ise in a protective embrace.

"Kai... I saw the two poachers... I heard you, Kai, you said you hated me because of what I'd done..."

"Rei, you know I'd never say that. I love you with all my life, and I'll never leave you no matter what."

Suddenly, Rei pushed Kai away from him.

"Rei?"

"Get away from me, Kai! Volten... Volten's trying to take over my mind! It's not safe for you to be with me!"

"Rei, I won't let that happen! Even if I have to give my life, I won't let Volten take over you."

Rei ran forward to Kai again, holding him tightly.

"No, don't say that, Kai! I don't want you to die... I don't want anyone else to die!"

"Alright Rei, I won't die, I'll always be here to protect you. Now, go to sleep, Rei, it'll be ok in the morning."

"Yeah, it'll be ok..."

The next morning, things weren't ok as Kai had said. They were far from it.

As dark clouds gathered in the skies above, Kai awoke to the sound of Rei thrashing about in the cabin.

"Rei? Rei, stop it! What's happening?"

Rei slammed his fist into a wall.

"SHUT UP! I'm sorry... leave me alone, please!" Rei cried, oblivious to Kai.

"Is it Volten? Rei, talk to me!"

Suddenly, Rei spoke in a voice that wasn't his own.

"You see, Kai, the more Rei tries to fight back, the more pain he feels."

"Volten!" Kai spat. "Leave Rei alone!"

"Oh, it's a pity I can't control you instead of Rei, but now I see that it brings you far more suffering to see Rei like this."

"What do you mean, you can't control me?"

"Oh, you'll soon find out..."

Suddenly, Rei's voice came through again.

"KAI! Get away from me! It's not safe!"

"Rei, let me help you!"

"GO AWAY!"

With inhuman strength, Rei shoved Kai out of the cabin and slammed the door behind him. From outside, Kai could hear Rei screaming.

"Go, Kai, and don't come back until you have Crystallis!"

Kai's warm tears rolled down his cheeks as rain started to pour down from above. Taking a step back, Kai looked at the cabin for the last time before he ran.

In the rain, Kai ran and ran. He didn't know for how long, he didn't know for how far. And he didn't care. All he wanted to do was get away from Volten. Volten controlling his beloved Rei.

Why Rei.. why? Kai thought to himself as he ran.

Volten... you're the cause for all this! You injured Max, killed my brother Xan, killed my friend Tyson, and now you steal my Rei from me...

"Volten, I will defeat you!" Kai screamed aloud.

Before long, Kai found himself back at the place where the White Tigers trained daily. But it was empty right now.

Save for one.

Volten, possessing the body of Rei.

"Volten! are are you doing here?"

"You cannot run from me, Kai. Or would you rather abandon your beloved Rei?"

"Rei! Give him back to me!"

"Are you willing to fight for him?"

"What?"

"Battle with me, Kai. If you win, I'll leave Rei. But if you lose... then you are mine."

"How can I trust you?"

"You cannot. But will you give up this possibility, however small it is?"

"Very well. I beat you once, and I can beat you again."

"But that was with the help of Light Dranzer, and besides, I am far more powerful. Rei is a much better blader that Voltaire, you must admit."

"Cut the crap and battle, Volten."

Volten took out Rei's Driger. But instead of the white tiger bit beast, the beyblade now held a different, more sinister beast, and Kai instinctively knew what its name was.

Black Driger.

"3, 2, 1, LET IT RIP!"

"Dranzer, go!"

Just as Kai's blue beyblade hit the dish, the red phoenix emerged in a burst of flames.

"Black Driger, Savage Fury!"

A black tiger emerged from the grey beyblade, and instantly it leapt at the firebird, catching it in its claws and pinning it to the ground.

"No, Dranzer!"

Black Driger ripped Dranzer apart with its deadly claws and vicious fangs, amidst the shrill screams from the phoenix.

"Kai, you're dead!"

Kai's blue blade flew out of the dish and embedded itself in a tree as it shattered into pieces.

"NO!!!"

"Kai, you've lost. Now you're mine."

Kai could feel his strength rapidly draining from him. The last thing he heard before he passed out was someone shouting "Volten, that's enough!"

Kai painfully opened his eyes. He felt as though his entire body was made of stone. But the first thing that crossed his mind was Rei... and Volten.

"Rei..."

"Kai! You're awake!"

"Mariah! Does this mean... I'm in the village?"

"Yes. We've been so worried about you, Kai."

"Just before I fainted, I heard someone... who saved me?"

"Titus."

"Titus... is he ok?"

"Yeah. He's badly injured, but he's still alive."

"And Rei?"

"We found Rei unconscious at the dish too, yesterday morning. He's still passed out."

"Rei... I need to help Rei!"

"Kai, you're weak to get up!"

"No, you don't understand! It's been a day now. The longer I take, the more difficult it will be to save Rei!"

"We know everything. Titus told us. But still, I can't let you place yourself in danger like this!"

"Please, Mariah..."

"Let him go, Mariah."

Mariah and Kai both turned to look at the door, where Lee was standing.

"Lee, please... Kai needs to rest!"

"No. Kai is a strong blader. He, and only he, has the strength to save Rei."

Lee turned to Kai.

"I trust you, Kai, because Rei trusts you. Now, go do what you're supposed to do."

Kai stood up by supporting himself on the bed frame.

"I... Thank you, Lee."

"I don't want your gratitude. I just want you to save Rei."

Kai nodded, and slowly, he limped out of the room.

Painfully, Kai trudged on through the forest. He had regained enough strength to be able to walk properly, but still, with every step he took, he felt as though he was about to collapse. He didn't know for how long he had been walking, but he could tell it was around noon now as the sun was high up in the sky. But he didn't care. Only one thing filled his mind right now.

Find Crystallis.

Suddenly, Kai tripped over a vine on the forest floor, and crashed into the ground. Using every ounce of his strength, he moved himself into a sitting position. Exasperated, he slammed his fist into a nearby trunk. He immediately regretted it as the pain pierced through his body.

"Kami-sama, Light Dranzer, help me!"

Kai.

"Light Dranzer?"

Kai, why is it that you desire to find Crystallis?

"What do you mean?"

Do you want to save Rei, or do you want to defeat Volten?

"I..."

To make or to break, Kai. Choose.

"Saving Rei means destroying Volten. Isn't it the same thing?"

But it wasn't. Somewhere deep down within Kai, he knew. It was different.

When you can clear the darkness within your heart, you will know where Crystallis is.

"Light Dranzer, why won't you tell me where or what Crystallis is? Why won't you help me?"

I have always been here to help you, but you have never asked.

Taken aback, Kai cleared his mind to think. What was it that he wanted? Was it his love for Rei or hatred for Volten that drove him this far? Kai wanted it to be the same either way. But it wasn't. There was a world of difference. If he could have Rei back, did it matter if Volten survived? On the other hand, was he willing to give up Rei in order to destroy Volten?

No! He couldn't lose Rei! But yet, he couldn't let Volten live after what he'd done...

But Light Dranzer was right. he had to make a choice.

Kai concentrated on Rei. Rei would know. Rei was his hikari. Rei was his sanity that allowed him to live throughout all this difficult times. Rei had a clear conscience, even if it tormented him at times. Rei had all his answers.

=Flashback=

"I don't want you to die... I don't want anyone else to die!"

=End flashback=

Rei didn't want any more destruction... Kai was tired. All he wanted now was to be with Rei, and not care about anything else for eternity.

"I want to save Rei."

Then clear your heart of all darkness, Kai.

Yes... no more vengeance, no more destruction. Just love. His love for Rei.

Suddenly, Kai felt a warm strength overcome him.

"Light Dranzer... what's this?"

This is Crystallis. It has always existed within you, Kai, waiting for you to find it.

Kai was bursting with questions. Finally, he opened his mouth again.

"What is Crystallis?"

Crystallis is pure angelic energy. You see, all angels possess a small amount of energy that allow them to fight the devils. So I hypothesised, if we concentrated all of this energy, would we be able to destroy the devils? As it turned out, Crystallis was immensely powerful. So powerful that no one has been able to control it. That was why it had always been in the prototype stage, since it was too dangerous for anyone to use it.

"But why me? Why can I control Crystallis?"

It is because of who you are.

"And who am I?"

The son of Dreamer.

"I... I'd never known..."

Well, now you do.

"So... does that make me an angel?"

Partially. But because of the influence this world has had on you, you are mostly human.

"Then how do I use this Crystallis?"

Crystallis is whatever you want it to be, Kai. A sword, a shield, a beyblade, whatever. You are your limit.

"Anything?"

Yes. Crystallis can even be magic.

"Magic? Like what Volten did to Tyson..."

Just like Volten drew on the dark energy of Max's depression and Rei's guilt to make himself powerful, you can use the angelic energy of Crystallis to do what you want.

"So I can do anything..."

But there is one condition.

"What?"

When you tap into the power of Crystallis, its energy will overwhelm you and turn you into an angel.

"NO!"

You will have enough time to save Rei, but you cannot last here forever, and eventually, you will have to return to Heaven.

"All this to save Rei... but we cannot be together..."

It is your choice, Kai. You now possess the power. You can either defeat Volten, free your Rei, and go to Heaven, or not tap into Crystallis at all and let things remain the same.

"Some choice this is..."

It is a difficult choice, but I believe you know the answer. Now, your fate is in your hands...

Kai stood up, and walked.

Trueangel: Here you are fangirls! *throws Rei into flock of fangirls*

Flock of Rabid Fangirls: *shreds Rei's clothes* REI!!!

Kai: WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY REI!!! DIE, TRUEANGEL!

Trueangel: Eep!

Leon: Don't worry, I'll protect you! *casts Protection* Protection!

*giant shield appears around Trueangel*

Kai: Hey, this isn't fair!

Leon: Now you die! *casts Noah* Be washed !

Kai: AARGH! *swept away by giant wave*

Trueangel: Um, thanks a lot Leon...

Leon: Aww, it was nothing.

Max: Is it just me, or is something going on between those two...

Tyson: *nodnod* Whatever you say, Maxie...
