A little morning after stuff happening here. DuoShields helped with some ideas in this and the next chapter/chapters! Thanks, Duo! And yes there will probably be at least one more lemon in this story……
The Ride
Chapter 12
The sun reflected off the other vehicles in the rest stop. The birds sang and the traffic kept on moving.. Unknown people on their unknown way to destinies they were unsure of.
Duo knew what his destiny was as he pulled the sleeping girl into his arms. He was destined to love this girl forever. She touched his heart like no other. She was special. He wouldn’t give her up. He sighed as she snuggled into his arms. There was only one thing wrong with this.
Heero Yuy and her father. Would they have to keep running and would they keep hunting them.? He sighed. He knew there was no way in hell that they could keep on running. There had to be a way to resolve this . Maybe he could get Hilde to meet with her father and they could work this out. He closed his eyes and wondered what they could do. If what she said was true, and her father was a murderer, then he had to be stopped. If Hilde was over exaggerating……no, he knew better. She had seen something, otherwise no one would be trying to chase her down. She was not a minor any more so no one could keep her at home. There had to be truth in what she said. He pulled her closer and ran a hand through her hair, indecision running through his mind.
Sleep hadn’t come easy to Hilde the night before. Her dreams were confused and frightening. The only comfort she had gotten was the man beside her. She had dragged Duo into this twisted tale, she couldn’t get either of them out . Heero had seen Duo and now he couldn’t escape either. She knew she had to resolve this with her psycho old man , but she didn’t know how. The morning sounds had pulled her out of her deep sleep and she could feel Duo’s body next to her. She smiled as she snuggled closer, loving his closeness. She sighed contently as she felt his hand run through her hair.
“Hilde?” he asked softly. “ Are you awake, babe?”
She sighed, “I am, and I know….we need to talk.”
She felt him pull her to him, “How about we find a truck stop, a shower, and get some breakfast? Then, we can talk about this…..what do you think?”
She stretched, then looked up at him. “Sounds good. A shower and breakfast. A shower sounds wonderful.” She leaned up and kissed him. “Then we can decide what we should do.”
The truck stop was busy as the y pulled in. Duo glanced at his watch and grimaced. “Maybe we should have lunch.”
Hilde giggled and nodded. “Yeah, um.. That did take a little long that what we planed. “ coc cocked an eyebrow at her and then shook his head. “You know what, I think I’ll marry you after this is all said and done.”
Hilde’s head turned quickly to look at him. “Did.. Did you just say you want to marry me?” She stuttered.
“Yep.”
“Oh.” Came her reply.
“You don’t want to?”
“I …. Yes.. I would like that … .but I…”
“But what?” He asked his heart skipping a beat awaiting her next words.
“Oh, hell.” She mumbled and crawled across the seat to him. “Yes, Let’s run away to Vegas and do it. “ She placed both her hands on his cheeks and pulled his face toward her. She kissed him long and hard. “Yes… I think I would like that very much.”
She paused a moment. “I think we should do it before we confront my father and Heero Yuy.”
Duo nodded as the two of them left the truck and headed inside the truck stop. They made their way toward the showers and bath rooms. Just before they entered their separate rooms, Duo pointed to the large sign by the entrance.
“Meet me there when you are done.”
Hilde nodded and slipped into the woman’s room. Duo watched her go and went into the men’s.
After a few minutes the y both met under the sign, duo took her arm and lead her into the restaurant. A waitress met them and led them to a small table.
They sat and looked through the menu, choosing what they wanted. After the food came. Duo looked up at Hilde.
“OK, what’s the plan? I can see the wheels turning in your head.”
Hilde looked up from her food and blinked. “What?”
“Come on, fess up, Hilde. You’re thinking about something.”
“I…. “ She looked back t o her plate. “Well, yeah, I was thinking on how we can do this.”
“Yeah. You want to call him up and have him meet us some where?”
She frowned. “Yes, but I want to meet him on my terms….. only after we go to Vegas and get married.” She nodded. “Yeah, that’s what we will do.”
“ Ok, sounds good to me.”

Relena opened her eyes and stretched. She looked over at the man who was laying beside her, and ran her fingers over his skin gently. She smiled and then crawled out of the bed. She stood in the center of the room, debating on running to her room and showering or using his. She nodded after a moment, hers.
She quickly walked to the door and slipped thru.
Heero had watched her the whole time, waking up when she had stretched. He was her indecision and then her rushing to her room. He stood and walked over to the door. Should he join her? He padded across the floor and pulled back the curtain. She jumped and let out a little shriek, then smiled at him. He stepped into the shower and she stepped back to let him get wet.
As he let the hot water pound on his back, he watched Relena in front of him. He wondered what it would be like to be with her forever. Maybe he would like to find out as she handed him the bar of soap.
After they were done, dressed and standing in Heero’s room, Relena asked the Sixty four dollar question.
“So what do we do now?”
Heero shrugged. “ How about some breakfast.”
“Sounds good.”
They packed their bags and headed down to where the car was .
Relena looked around her, wondering where the three men were . “Say Heero, where are those guys that were trailing Hilde and Duo?”
Heero glanced over to her, as he took her bag from her. He said nothing as he put it the trunk. “They had better be back at the office and the y better have taken care of the other problem they had.”
She cocked an eyebrow at him. “It was their problem? Since when? You shot the man. You should be responsible for……..”
He turned and glared at her.
“Ok, I’ll shut up.” She paused , then said , “But I still don’t think it ‘s right.”
“Relena.” Heero growled.
She shrugged and crossed her arms. “I think instead of chasing Hilde , we should find a way to get her old man. He’s killed enough.”
Heero nodded slightly, then asked , “ I agree, but how in the world can we do that?”
“Your word.”
“Hn. My word won‘t stand against him. ”
“I suppose you have another way?” She asked , her hands on her hips.
“Kill him.”
Is that all you ever thing about? Killing?”
“No. I think about you.”
Relena rolled her eyes and swatted him on the arm. “You have cleaned up every single one, haven’ t you?”
He nodded again.
“Well?”
“I don’t have a death wish. And even if I did, I never saw him kill those women. I only was called up after thect. ct. “ He paused as he grabbed her arm. “Most all of the killings were clean and neat. Except for this last one . He had made a mess…….” He shook his head. “ I think he may be getting reckless. I hope he was careful overseas. “
“Don’t bet on it.”
“Hn.”
He said nothing knowing she was probably right.
The y entered the truck stop anroceroceeded to the restaurant. After they were seated and they ordered. Heero’s cell phone began to ring. Relena looked over at him and frown.
“You’re ringing. Are you going to answer it?”
He reluctantly reached for the phone and hit the button.
“Yuy.”
Relena couldn’t pick up the conversation but she was sure she knew what it was about. She couldn’t read Heero’s expression but she could read his body language and it was screaming. When she heard Heero give them their location she knew who he was talking to.
Heero hung up and put the phone away.
“Well?”
“He’ll be here in a few hours.” He replied and continued with his meal.
