Round 11

Disclaimer: I don’t own DB/Z/GT or any of the characters found in this fic. They are the property of TOEI ANIMATION in Japan and FUNimation in the U.S.A.

I also do not own the song or lyrics One Night in Bangkok by Murry Head.

I had no idea that the song was actually part of a larger stage show named ‘Chess’ written by Benny Andersson, Bjor Ulvaeus and Tim Rice. Which I own no rights to either.

I am not making any money from this work of fanfiction.

A/N- This is actually a G/V get together fic. However, some of the other pairings may surprise you. :) I think there’s only one cannon couple in here. Obviously VERY A/U.

I hope this is a fun read for anyone who may be interested in such a combination.

Beta’d by Hoshi. Thank you Hoshi! (And thanks to rdk for catching a few others).
(DBZ/chess (the game, not the play.))

Rating – PG13 – or at least that’s what I was hoping for.

Warnings – OOC, A/U, mentions and kisses of M/M, mentions and kisses of M/F, chess, foul language, some minor roles of OC’s.

maegerakawaii - I hope you aren't too disappointed by Vegeta and Goku's fight. :)

Round 11

There was a slightly awkward moment at the dinning table as everyone gathered around the huge circular piece of furniture. Vegeta smirked at the Ox King’s cleverness; no one would be allowed to feel outclassed or slighted in this seating arrangement. However, it didn’t mean things couldn’t be awkward. The awkward part came when he was about to take a place at the table, and the blonde, known as Jane, suddenly took his the seat he’d decided was going to be his place for the moment. “Pardon me your Highness,” she said, but in a manner making it clear she wasn’t going to give up her chair.

This caused him to frown at her while trying puzzle out the suddenness of her decision. He figured it out when he looked for another empty chair to realize the only one left was next to Goku. He smirked; fine by him.

Goku felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand, and turned to his left, blushing as he realized Vegeta was taking the empty seat next to him. He looked up at his sister accusingly, who was engaged in conversation with Eddie. She shrugged indicating the prince’s choice of seat hadn’t been her doing, when she finally noticed him glaring at her. He sighed, reaching for food in his immediate vicinity, as it looked like this was to be a totally casual affair, and everyone else had a head start on him.

Goku was going to use his best table manners; really, he was. However, he found his amazement growing as he watched the prince eat. A tired question his sister always asked him ran through his head; does he even taste it?

“The noodle dish is very good,” Vegeta stated, pointing it out to Goku with his chopsticks as he felt the other’s scrutiny had gone on a bit long to be comfortable. He smiled slightly as he caught the other’s faint blush out of the corner of his eye.

“Uh…thanks,” Goku said before he began eating the recommended dish he already had an untouched serving of on his plate.

Vegeta continued his meal as though nothing had passed, the whole time trying to spot the dish that smelled so absolutely divine. Yet everything he brought to his mouth wasn’t it. He sat back as he had his fill, taking a deep satisfied breath and purring as the scent overwhelmed him once again.

Goku started as Prince Vegeta purred and then blushed at his own rude behavior as the prince turned his attention back to him, “Sorry…not used to that…”

The purr faded and Vegeta frowned, the scent having suddenly changed then his eyes widened as he finally figured out what, or better who, it was. “Do I make you uneasy, Goku?”

“Just a bit,” Goku embarrassingly squeaked out, finding it difficult to cast his eyes down from where they had been caught by the other’s gaze despite the fact he knew he had become three shades of red. Just when he thought for certain he was going to faint from high blood pressure the prince’s countenance changed.

Vegeta smiled gently, purring more subtly than before and letting his gaze relax a fraction. “I apologize; this was not my intent,” he turned his obviously disgruntling gaze across the table. “It seems your sister and the other scientist are very interested in each other.”

Goku felt his whole body relax as those dark eyes turned away from him. It took a moment for him to react to what Vegeta had suggested, looking across the table where Bulma and Eddie were quietly chatting. “Bulma and Eddie? Oh, yes. They’ve been dancing around each other for years,” he stated it as though it were old news, “Your guard, Radditz, and Princess Chichi seem to be hitting off pretty well...”

“Hitting it off?” Vegeta asked, not absolutely certain what the phrase meant.

“Uh…very interested in each other?” Goku thought quickly before using the phrase Vegeta had used for his sister and Eddie.

Vegeta smiled, “Yes.”

“You don’t seem upset by this…” Goku commented.

“No. I am not,” Vegeta confirmed. The air around them was returning to that wonderful scent again; apparently Goku was relaxing around him. “Should I be?” maybe there was some Earth custom he had not been informed of.

Goku shrugged, shoveling some more food into his mouth and swallowing before answering, “I don’t think so, if you have no interest in her…sorry, that’s none of my business.”

Vegeta shrugged casually. “What about you?”

“Hmmmm?” Goku inquired around another mouthful.

“Are you ‘hitting it off’ with someone?” Vegeta elaborated.

Goku was thankful he’d had time to swallow his mouthful before the prince had made his inquiry, “I-I…u-uh…I-i…”

Vegeta’s eyes narrowed as the other’s scent once again changed. “Should I not ask? Is it ‘none of my business’?”

Goku found every phrase that ran through his head either entirely inappropriate or possibly insulting, so he ended up sitting in his chair with his mouth slightly open while he floundered for some kind of reaction to give.

Vegeta turned his attention back to his dinning companion as the silence drew out. His whole body tightened at Goku’s state of appearance. Mouth slightly open, panting. Slightly flushed features with dilated eyes. “I see,” he said quietly, “It is my business.”

Goku blinked, coming out of his haze at the prince’s words. “What?”

“If you are done eating, I would like to spar,” Vegeta stated, changing the subject.

“Uh…shouldn’t we wait for the others?” Goku asked as he set his napkin on the table and the chopsticks on his plate.

“I don’t know,” Vegeta said seriously, “Should we? They could catch up if they care to do so…we don’t really need an audience…” he trailed off.

Goku shook his head. “Yeah, they can catch up…” he followed Vegeta’s example as the prince stood and walked from the dinning hall without a word to the rest of the group.

Only a few of the other dinner guests notice them leave. Most of them were engaged in conversations that had them consumed with other interests. Yamcha was busy telling Nappa about his days as a thief as they drank beers together. Krillan and Jane were quietly discussing their different back grounds, Jane very interested in Krillan’s past as a monk and a martial arts fighter. Bulma and Eddie were to the point they were just looking at each other. “You are very beautiful,” Eddie finally said, and then snorted at himself, “You probably hear that all the…” Bulma’s fingers on his mouth stopped him.

“Say it again,” she requested, and Eddie blushed.

Radditz stared down at the top of Chichi’s head; she was so tiny. How had she ever gained his attention in the first place? He didn’t know, but she still had it. “Will you be going to the chess tournament with his Highness again this evening?” he finally asked, just so she would speak to him.

Chichi nodded, “More than likely, but…” she sighed, “I-i..”

“Yes, your Highness?” Radditz asked.

Chichi shivered as he addressed her with her title. “Chichi, call me Chichi, please,” she requested.

Radditz smiled, “Of course, Chichi.”

They started slow, by both their standards, each testing the other for strengths and weaknesses. The courtyard had grown gloomy, the sun having begun to set as dinner had progressed. Once Vegeta thought he had a handle on things, he sped the spar up a notch.

Goku followed, and then turned it up higher. He grinned as Vegeta smirked at him; this…this he could do. The conversation and the strange looks had been unsettling, but this was natural

Vegeta picked the pace up a bit more, neither of them actually having struck the other, yet; a flow of movement designed to be evaded with poise.

Goku was the first to actually have to block a strike. He gasped at the strength he felt in the restrained contact from the other. They both froze, forearms maintaining the contact as they circled. “Amazing,” Goku whispered. He leaned back as Vegeta advanced, “What?” he asked as one of the prince’s hands was suddenly pressed against his chest; he hadn’t even seen the movement.

Vegeta growled, sliding his hand up Goku’s chest; the other trembled at his touch, and he withdrew his hand, stepping back. “You,” he breathed a sigh, shaking his head at his own foolishness. On Vegeta-sei, he would of had this opponent backed up against a wall, or pinned to the ground beneath him, but this was not Vegeta-sei, nor a sayian who would understand that sort of courtship….

Goku placed a hand over the spot Vegeta’s had been, “Vegeta? Did I miss something?” Surely the prince was not tired yet? He felt his knees grow weak at the look the prince focused on him.

Vegeta stared at the other, assessing, thinking, concluding. If there were to be anyone on this planet…he advanced again, instinct driven.

The look couldn’t mean what he thought it had…no, it was the play of the half shadows filling the courtyard, Goku tried to reassure himself. His musing was brought to an abrupt halt as demanding lips pressed against his. He gripped Vegeta’s biceps as the prince placed his hands on his hips, and drew their bodies together. He was going to squeal, no, gasp, no, pass out from the shock…his body settled for a more conventional reaction; acquiescence and then he was wrapping his arms around Vegeta’s shoulders, kissing him back.

Jane clamped a hand over Krillan’s mouth before his shocked outburst could be given voice. It certainly wasn’t something either of them had expected to see as they’d headed out to the courtyard, but Jane had been quicker to assess the moment than Krillan. He had no strength to struggle against her as he silently witnessed his best friend doing something he’d never of imagined Goku doing. He let her draw him back into the hallway keeping silent as she led him back to the dinning area. “Well, I think it’s too dark for sparing,” Jane announced as they came back into the room.

Bulma looked up at Jane’s announcement, concern for her brother’s short friend growing, “Krillan? Are you okay? You’re as white as a sheet.”

“I-I..duh, I…” he said before fainting.

Jane caught him before he hit the floor, her willowy frame belying the strength she was capable of, “Mmmm, just a little shocked,” she said archly, letting the others think what they would.

Yamcha grinned, “Ah, I knew you were too much of a woman for him to handle!” his candid statement forming because if his inebriation.

Jane’s eyes narrowed, but she relaxed quickly, “Your Majesty, do you have a bed or couch our friend may rest on?” she addressed the Ox King.

“Of course, Jane, is it? This way,” Ox King stated while standing before leading the way from the dinning area.

“Well, I guess we can all retire to the hall since it is too dark to enjoy the outdoors more this evening,” Chichi stated before standing to lead the way. Everyone followed her, but Nappa and Radditz gave each other a questioning glance: where was their prince?

“What about Goku?” Yamcha slurred as he stood to follow.

Bulma stiffened at his pointed question as she noticed Radditz and Nappa eye each other, “Oh, well…” If both Goku and Vegeta were missing…then was what she thought was going on, really going on?

“I will go check on them,” Radditz stated, “I’ll be with you shortly,” he addressed Chichi directly.

“Why don’t I go with you?” Yamcha suggested.

“Ah, Radditz is perfectly capable my friend,” Nappa gripped him around the shoulder, and shoved a mug of ale into his hands. “Why don’t we just follow her Highness?” he suggested, strongly.

“Mmm, okay,” Yamcha agreed much to Bulma’s relief, “Have I told you about the time…”

Radditz stalked into the opposite direction the rest of the group was taking. He stood at the end of the hallway silently his tail uncoiling and waving low in amusement as he watched his prince; nothing Vegeta couldn’t handle on his own. He turned his back to the dark courtyard and made his return into the palace to find Chichi.

Goku whined as the prince nosed his chin out of the way and began licking his neck, “Is…is this r-really something we should be, aaah, d-doing?” he panted.

Vegeta stilled, skin of the other’s throat caught between his teeth. He let go before licking the place apologetically, “I-I don’t know that I care,” he finally whispered back, closing his eyes, “I know I want this.”

Goku nodded, but logic dictated they were moving too fast, “I’ll have you know…I am very cautious who I get involved with…this…this took me by surprise.”

Vegeta sighed before loosening his grip on the other by a tad, “I shouldn’t do this to you…”

“We’ll take it slow…” Goku started, but stopped when he felt the head beneath his chin shake in the negative.

“This isn’t fair to you. I am very serious about this, but you don’t know everything,” Vegeta stated, trying to think of a place to begin an explanation from.

Goku nodded, “I hardly know anything at all, except,” he shifted his head so he could kiss the other briefly, “Except, I don’t want to stop…”

Vegeta purred slightly at the admission, “Neither do I…” the prince moved himself away from the other. “Honestly, we need to talk.”

Goku was extremely disappointed, “Okay, so, lets talk,” he suggested and took a seat in the grass. The sooner they had this ‘talk’ the sooner they could get back to kissing!

Vegeta looked down at the other for a moment before doing like wise. He reached for one of Goku’s hands, holding it between his own, “I am on a very serious mission that has become two fold,” he began. Goku nodded, waiting for him to continue, “At first, our mission was to find Radditz’ brother, Kakarott. This has been deemed obsolete,” he quieted for a moment and let the other come to his own conclusions, “Our main objective has now become to find out as much information as we could on capsule technology,” he stopped as Goku stiffened.

“We don’t give out that kind of information,” Goku stated, hostility filtering into his voice.

“Not even for equal trade?” Vegeta asked.

“Not even for trade,” Goku withdrew his hand from the between the other’s.

Vegeta shook his head as he watched Goku’s hand settle away from him, “I-I think the second mission is no longer of interest to you,” he stated quietly before standing abruptly with his tail swinging in agitation.

Goku gasped, “You have a tail…”

Vegeta quickly wrapped it back around his waist, “I am sorry. I did not mean to mislead you,” he had been hoping…

“How long have you had a tail?” Goku asked, mesmerized by it. “I lost mine when I was young…”

Vegeta turned quickly, “What?”

Goku frowned at the prince’s surprise, “I said, ‘I lost mine when I was young’…”

“You had a tail?” Vegeta couldn’t help the slight squeak that crept into his normally gravely voice.

Goku stood, “What of it…” he hissed, thinking Vegeta was discrediting him. He yelped when Vegeta grabbed his hand and pulled him to the better lighting of the hallway.

“What did you do to your hair?” Vegeta asked him.

“What?” Goku asked, thoroughly confused, “I cut it?”

“Cut?” Vegeta asked, reaching his hand to the other’s head, withdrawing it quickly as Goku jerked back defensively from his touch.

“It grows too wild to control,” Goku growled in defense.

“Like Radditz’? Like mine?” Vegeta asked. He’d joked with Radditz about cutting his hair, but that’s what it was – a joke. Saiyans wouldn’t cut their hair

Goku’s eyes widened. “Sort of, but…different,” now it was Goku who was reaching for the prince’s hair.

Vegeta didn’t move as he let the other touch him, “I don’t believe it…” Vegeta said quietly.

Goku drew his hand back as he realized what he was doing. “Believe what?” he asked warily.

Vegeta smirked as he clutched the other’s hand tighter and pulled Goku through the palace. “Vegeta, stop,” Goku said, he thought of digging his heels in, but didn’t want to ruin the Ox King’s floor. He wasn’t used to other people being able to drag him around.

“We have to find Radditz…” Vegeta stated distractedly.

“Are you aware of how insane you sound?” Goku asked, worriedly. Moments before they’d been kissing, and then the admission had come that Vegeta was interested in Capsule Corporation secrets and now…this insistent need to find one of the prince’s guards was just too weird.

Vegeta laughed, “Probably…”

Goku was about to put up a real struggle when they came into the hall where everyone was socializing. “RADDITZ!” Vegeta barked upon entry.

Both Radditz and Nappa jerked to attention at their prince’s call, “Prince Vegeta?” Radditz asked, watching as Vegeta drew a thoroughly confused Goku behind him.

“Come here,” Vegeta pointed to a vague spot on the floor in front of him.

Radditz grew concerned, but didn’t dare say anything in front of the aliens. “Yes, your Highness?” he inquired as he did as instructed. He grunted as Goku was shoved up next to him. He grew even more worried as his prince glanced back and forth between them, “Your Highness?”

Vegeta smirked, “Smell him,” he ordered. He could only guess he hadn’t recognized what was in front of him because of the ‘hair cut’ and he hadn’t actually been around the Goku long enough – or close enough – to smell him before now.

Radditz blushed, quickly glancing at Chichi before his head was dragged down by Vegeta pulling his hair. He did as commanded and quickly jerked his head back in surprise.

Goku held still, but pleaded his sister with worried eyes. What the fuck were they doing?

Bulma stood, concerned, but unable to think of any way out of this. “Goku?”

“I-I have NO idea…” Goku confessed.

“He said he had a tail in his youth,” Vegeta addressed Radditz, “Is it possible?”

Goku squeaked as the tall guard forcibly put him at arms length and looked him over. “Uh…” He wondered why he was the one blushing when it was obvious these weirdoes were doing the embarrassing things to him.

Bulma huffed, “He did have a tail…” her explanation trailed off when Radditz let his tail uncurl from around his waist, “Just…like…that….”

Goku suddenly found his face crushed into the chest of the much taller man – again. “BROTHER!”

Radditz’ shout roused Krillan to look up from where’d been recovering from his earlier faint in time to see Radditz hugging Goku. He immediately fainted again. “Oh dear. This can’t be good for his health,” Jane stated as she adjusted the cool cloth on Krillan’s forehead.
