Scene Twelve

Bardock entered through to the training room only to be met by an energy blast to the face, had he not have batted it to the side a few locks of his hair would have been turned to charcoal. He continued to hit the energy blasts from En as he walked towards her, before dashing forward to grab her hands.

"That's enough, senseless use of energy blasts is a waste. Also, you have terrible aim." He said, then ducked his head as En kicked towards him.

"I meant what I said before, brat, you still haven't landed a hit on me, what use are you as a trooper if you can't even punch. This is how you do it." He manoeuvred behind her and pushed her shoulders down slightly. "Lower yourself, stay close to the ground but enough to throw a punch, keep your shoulders back, and hold your hand like this, knuckle goes above the fingers, clench your fists, pull it back like this, relax while you do it, then, when you shoot forward, release the power as you hit the target, flex I said! If you're stiff throughout the movement then it's not going to do you any good. Roll with the shoulders, circulate them, the hip should move forward as you hit the enemy." He moved En's arms back and forth like manipulating a wooden puppet, it almost looked like he was giving her a swimming lesson. "Feel the power En." Said Bardock. En headbutted him on the nose and jumped out of his clutch, her tail flailing about madly, then quickly wrapped itself on her. She landed professionally with one foot followed by the other, then crouched low to a fighting stance, never taking her eyes off Bardock when she did all of these actions in one fluent movement.

"That was a cheap shot you brat!" Yelled Bardock.

"You snooze you lose."

"I was teaching you!"

"Well I am now well taught."

"Why you!!!" Yelled Bardock as he sprinted forward.

En crouched down on all fours and propelled herself acrosss the floor just in time to slip underneath Bardock, then jumped up and swung her leg across, only to miss him by a few centimetres. Noticing her attack, Bardock stopped charging and flipped to do a backward kick, sending En across the room until she clashed against the wall with a muffled thud.

"Ha! Too green kid! Cheap tricks is all you have!" Said Bardock as he stood there with his arms crossed.

En stood up, then felt herself fall to her knees, that kick really made a delayed impact on her and she realised that her whole body was shaking from the shock. Get up, get up! She thought. She curled into a ball before releasing a roar, propelling herself above the floor with energy, levitated then carefully landed both of her feet on the floor. By then Bardock had already raced before her and kneed her in the stomach. En landed chin down on the floor, thankful that she didn't bite her tongue at the time, the pain shocked through her nervous system like a screaming siren and already she could feel tears streaming down her cheeks. No! I won't lose to a bastard like you! She clenched her fists and roared angrily as she powered up, sprung up and shot a right uppercut towards Bardock, followed by a left uppercut and the rest aiming for his waist.

"Kid, look down." Said Bardock as he smirked.

En stopped in her tracks and did as she was told, only to realise that she was now at least 30 storeys above the floor. How long had she been throwing punches in the air without realising she did not know, but then she saw an opening in Bardock's defence and kicked his waist. But he remained there, as if a mosquito flew into him.

"That was pathetic." He said before grabbing her arms on both sides and dived downwards, propelling them both towards the floor. En wished at that very moment she could gnaw her arms off as she thrashed against the velocity created by Bardock's speed. Panicking, she felt herself getting hotter by the millisecond before rays of lights burst out of her. Before Bardock realised, it was too late. Seconds before they hit the floor En's energy circulated and condensed at a rate so rapid that she created an explosion from the outside of her body, sending her and Bardock each flying off in the opposite direction. Bardock took a few tumbles in the air before steadying himself and looked back.

"En!!" He shouted and flew down beside her.

He flipped her over to get her to face upwards and checked her pulse, still breathing, but barely, he thought. He saw her mouth move but she could hardly make a sound, her eyes vacant.

"Don't talk! Stay awake! No don't close your eyes! En!" He picked her up and laid her across his chest before dashing out the door, barely waiting for it to open.

He sprinted across the hallway nearly knocking over a few Saiyans from the momentum until he screeched to a halt outside Dr. Malaka's office.

"What the? Bardock?" Said Dr. Malaka, he was about to question further unti he saw En in Bardock's arms, then he got off his chair and took En from him, laid her in the treatment bed and started his diagnosis.

"What happened Bardock?"

"Attempted self destruct!"

"Attempted? Why would she do that?"

"LOOK IT JUST HAPPENED OK I DIDN'T MEAN TO!"

Dr. Malaka flinched from the growl, his eyes cautiously fixed on Bardock, who seemed to be staring at something that only he could see.

"Bardock..."

"I didn't mean for this to happen I swear..."

"Bardock..."

"I didn't mean to I didn't mean to..."

"Bardock!"

The third time Bardock snapped out of it, he looked like he just awoke from a dream, his eyes still murky and adjusting to his surroundings.

"Take a seat over there young man, I'll deal with you later." Said Dr. Malaka and he turned around to continue to diagnose En. After finishing up with his quick diagnosis, he opened the lid of the rejuvenation tank and placed En inside it, carefully seating her up as he spoke to her gently.

"Hello there kid, I'm Dr. Malaka, and I'm here to treat you. This is called a rejuvenation tank, what will happen is that I am going to put this oxygen mask over your face, so you can breath while being submerged under medical fluid OK? I'm here to help you get better, don't worry, you are in good hands. If you feel the need to fall asleep, it's OK too, the mask is secure so you won't drown, and I will be here to monitor your progress until you are fully healed, and we will make sure that you are fighting fit again!" After securing the mask for En, Dr. Malaka stepped out of the tank and gave her a wave of confidence before shutting and locking the lid of the rejuvenation tank, begin to slowly fill it with medical fluid.

En could see the liquid level slowly rising up above the top of her boot-clad feet and feel the coldness seep in, by the time it had reached up to her chest she was already out cold and hung her head like a puppet without a master. Dr. Malaka turned around to face Bardock as he spoke sternly.

"What gives, Bardock? Can't you get her to train with others of her calibre?"

"..."

"Just be lucky that I'm only a doctor."

"Oh yeah? You think you can take me on?"

"Who's going to heal you when you get injured then?"

"..."

"You have to realise she's not you Bardock."

"Easy for you to say, you haven't seen the way she fought."

"Care to explain this then?"

"We were training!"

"Funny, I never knew you guys were taught self destruct from day one, is it rudimentary nowadays?."

"Look she just did it OK!? I didn't tell her to!"

"Just what exactly did you do Bardock?"

Bardock rubbed the back of his head awkwardly as he looked down, before replying. "I may have tried to scare her a bit."

"Which consisted?"

"..... I grabbed her and pretended I was going to dive us both into the floor, but you know how they don't like us damaging equipments..."

"Was that even necessary?"

"Well she was being a cheap shot..."

"You know Bardock, I was always taught that the pupil reflects the master, if you ask me she's just doing what you would've done."

"I would never have taken a cheap shot at anyone!"

"True, does she trust you though?"

"I'm her captain, she had to!"

Dr. Malaka shook his head and peered into his eyes.

"Well there you have it."

"What?"

"How long have you known Seripa and Toma?"

"Ever since we were junior troopers of course, doc you were there!"

"And how long have this girl known you?"

"Does it matter I saved her life for fuck's sakes!"

"True, you chose to save her yourself, she never asked you did she?"

"But but..."

"Did she asked to be brought here?"

"... No."

"She could have died that day if you hadn't been there, that is true, but even if you never knew, so what? You'd still carry on with your life, wondering when you going to find the next new comrade, maybe not as soon as you think you can, but next year, next decade, who knows, it could have been anyone."

"..."

"She doesn't owe you anything Bardock, you're the one who brought her into our world."

"Doesn't matter, she's mine now."

"Would you still want her, even if she cannot engage in combat, no matter how much she trains and trusts you?"

"Wha, what kind of question is that doc? We're Saiyans, of course we fight!"

"So in other words, she's useless to you without her potential power level."

"Huh?"

"If I want to, I could inject a lethal poison into her system while she's unconscious, she will be paralysed for life and never be able to move again, would she still be of any use to you?"

"Quit it doc, you're speaking in tongues..."

"All I'm saying is," Dr. Malaka paused, before leering up at Bardock, "if you ever bring any of your teammates back here, beaten half to death due to your poor training negligence again, and expect me to pick up the pieces which are essentially your responsibilities, outside my work hours I may add, I will forcefully take whoever gets injured next out of your division and get them transferred else where, because from your so-called training so far way things aren't exactly going peachy, you may as well have let me inject the poison into her just as well she will end her suffering under you. Now if you excuse me, my attention is required."
Despite having all the advantages of being able to end the life of this lizard alien there and then, Bardock could not find any more words to argue back, instead he turned around and left. Dr. Malaka turned back to the rejuvenation tank and readjusted the chemical balances from the buttons built in on the platform. "Kid kid kid what have you done, you've brought out the best and the worst in him..." He mumbled to himself.
