Chapter 13

Zechs stood out side His sister front door. He knocked and shivered in the cold air as he waited for some one to answer his summons. The sun was just starting to peek over the horizon giving the sky a bloody red look. He sighed. So many people had to die for justice. What was the point.? He didn’t know but it pushed him to continue. He registered shock as the door opened to reveal Relena standing in front of him. He took a step back, and asked withrprirprise, “Relena, what are doing up at this hour?”
She was so taken aback by him standing at the door, she said nothing. She held the door open for him to come in.
“Where’s Yuy?” he asked ,glancing back at her, noticing her attire for the first time.
He hardly ever saw his sister in jeans and a plaid wool shirt. It was too odd to be a coincidence. “Where are you going?”
“On an adventure.” She replied breezily as she walked past him. “Heero’s in the kitchen, come on, I’ll take you to him.”
He followed behind her, his mind in turmoil over this turn of events.
The kitchen was warm and bright as he and Relena entered it. Heero looked up from his coffee , then stood, extending his hand out to Zechs, who took it and the grasped each hand tightly.
“Sheriff Marquise.”
“Yuy.”
“What brings you out on a cold morning like this?”
“First answer this question, Where are you taking my sister?”
Heero shrugged and said nothing.
Relena leaned over and looked into her brother’s face. “First of all, do not speak as if I’m not here. And secondly, Heero doesn’t speak for me. For that matter neither do you. I chose to go, Zechs. And you can’t stop me, what so ever. We are going to go check ois is friends.”
“His friends?” He asked, bewildered at first. “Oh, Schibecker and Maxwell.” He nodded. “The ones Treize’s wants.”
Relena nodded, “Yes. Heero has a bad feeling about them.”
“We really need to get on the road, Relena.” Heero stated, standing. “Did some onm thm the stables get the horses ready?”
She nodded, “Yes, they are waiting for us.”
Heero and Relena started to walk away.
“Wait, I’d like to come along, if I could. I have some unfinished business with Treize and I wouldn’t mind the company.”
Heero nodded.
“Give me 30 minutes to get things gathered up for the trip.”
Heero nodded, once again, then said, “30 minutes, then we’re going with out you.”
“Very well, 30 minutes.” And he was gone.
Zechs returned in less than 30 minutes and the small party was on it’s way.

Hilde’s eyes shot open with the sound of broken glass. She sat up and gently nudged Duo.
“Someone’s in the house.” She whispered.
“I heard, “ He whispered back, quickly climbing out of the bed and grabbing a pair of pants from the floor. He turned back to Hilde, still in the bed. “Get dressed, and then come on.”
He motioned fro her to follow him as he moved across the room to the door. “Ready?”
She nodded, He grabbed the handle and swung open the door, only to get a face full of fist, that sent him sprawling to the floor. Hilde rushed to attack the man who hat Duo but she was quickly caught up in his arms.
“My aren’ t we a feisty one.” He leered at her.
She spat in his face as she clenched her fists to pound on him. He released one arm and back handed her across the face. Her head snapped back and she glared at him .
“Bitch. No wonder Treize wants you! You’ll be like a wild horse in his stable of women.”
“Fuck you.”
He smirked. “He might let me , you know.”
Hilde heard Duo growl softly behind her.
“Let her go.” Came his voice soft and menacing.
He snorted and shoved Hilde a side. He looked at the young man standing in front of him. “What are you going to do about it , you little coward?”
Hilde watched as anger filled Duo’s face . “I am not a coward! I ….”
“You ran away, little boy.”
“Damn right! I don’t use women or whips to …”
“SHUT UP, BOY!” He yelled at Duo, the gun coming up. “I should just kill you right now.”
The room filled with tension as Trent pulled the trigger back. Hilde gasped as Duo held his breath and never moved.
Middi was suddenly in the room. “Trent, stop it.”
He looked at the woman. “Why shouldn’t I kill this brat?”
She cocked an eyebrow at him. “And what would Treize say if you brought his prize back dead?”
The gun was lowered, and he looked at Duo. “Finished getting dressed, both of you. We’re leaving in 15 minutes.”
He turned and strode out of the room. Middi watched him then turned to them.
“You better do as he says. I can only hold him off for a little bit. He can become uncontrollable at times.”
Hilde frowned as she heard crashing and the sound of things getting broken.
“He’s wrecking our home.”
“Better the house than you.”
Duo crossed the floor and pulled Hilde to her feet. “Come on , babe. Let’s get dressed. We have no choice in the matter right now. “
After a few minutes , everyone was sideside standing in the cold air. Trent instructed Hilde to get up on the horse , then Duo Behind her. He lashed their hands together to the saddle horn. He put Hilde’s on bottom , and Duo’s on top of hers.
“If you try to escape, I’ll lash your feet together , too.”
Trent looked at the two for them and grinned, as he reached down for the reins. “Take up the rear, Middi.”
Hilde sighed as she leaned back against Duo. He leaned in and put his head down near her ear.
“Hey,” He whispered, “I love you.”
She smiled and looked up at him, their lips touching briefly before Middi prodded him in the back.
“Enough of that shit.” She warned.
Duo stiffed and pulled Hilde closer to him. “Fuck off.” He mumbled.
Hilde sighed and leaned into his arms. It was going to a long trip.
Hilde looked over as Middi rode past them. She had a feeling she knew what she was going to ask.
Hilde watched as Middi stopped Trent and started to talk to him in a low voice. She saw him shrug and wave his hand behind him.
Middi shook her head and then shouted.
“THERE IS NO FUCKINGWAY I’M LEAVING YOU ALONE WITH THESE TWO!”
Trent looked at her then laughed. “Some one will go back to get them later. Those statues will still be in the house . “
Hilde watched Middi nod her head and then return to the back behind them.

~~~~~~
Middi didn’t look as she took up the rear again. She was seething. She had wanted to get her hands on those jade statues and look inside of them. She had been sent to spy on Treize and see what he was up to.. His bid for Governor had not gone unnoticed. Several senators wanted more information on the man who wanted to be governor of this newly to be inducted state.
The Pinkertons had sent her into infiltrate this organization. She had done well, becoming one of Treize top hands and becoming friends with his woman, Lady Une. But time was running out and she had to get the ducks in a row so to speak.
The sun was just setting as a small group of riders rode into the clearing by the house . The rider in the lead stopped and raised his hand to halt the others. He pushed up his hat and looked round. He noted the foot prints and horse tracks in the yard. He glanced toward the house and saw it was dark. He waved his hand and several riders dismounted, to look around.
“Something’s wrong. “ He murmured. Then he pushed his horse forward.
Trowa stepped off his horse and moved tly tly to the barn. WuFei went to the small cabin . The rest rode carefully to the house . He Zechs and Quatre dismounted and moved toward the house, bounding up the steps. Heero pushed the slightly ajar door open.
The sun was sending disoriented shadows into the room but he could see there had been a struggle. He moved into the room slowly and found a lantern overturned on the floor. He picked it up and shook it. Then set it down and light it. It flared to life. He looked around at the destruction and shook his head . Zechs and Quatre moved quickly through the house and told Heero it was empty.
Heero went to the door and gave the all clear and the other two riders came in.
“What happened here?” Relena asked, concerned.
Heero shook his head, then said, softly , “Treize has taken them.”
Sally looked around and then replied. “Well it’s going to be dark soon and too cold to travel at night so lets clean this up and stay here. We can pick the trail up in the daylight.”
Heero nodded, knowing Sally was right. He hadn’t wanted all these people to come along but they had insisted. Sally mostly because she was a healer and if there was going to be a fight she wanted to be there.
After the house was quickly picked up and the fire places all started, Sally moved to the pantry Hilde had to see what she had for supplies. As she stepped into the darkened room she tripped over the box in the center of the small room.
“What the hell?” She exclaimed and pushed it aside. She frowned as she saw the small trap door. She held the lantern over it and smiled. She reached down and pulled the ring, opening it. She saw a set of stairs leading down to a dirt basement. She stepped down and held the lantern in front of her. She noticed may normal things that should be in a cellar, then she noticed the burlap bag in the corner behind bushel basket of potatoes. She reached for it and pulled it from it semi hiding place. She then returned to the pantry, closing the trap door and returning to the mroomroom.
“Hey, look what I found.”
She dumped the two items on the table. Heero’s eyes got wide, then he calmed himself.
“These are the items Treize wants.” He stated. “These do not belong to Hilde.”
Sally turned them over. “Yeah, they have hidden compartments or are hollow. Look.” She help them so all could see the scoring on the bottom where some one had pried them open.
Heero nodded. “Good. We have the bargaining chips we need to get Hilde and Duo away from him.”
They all looked toward the door as the other two men entered.
“Nothing.” WuFei muttered, taking off his coat and moving toward the fire place to warm himself.
Trowa looked over at Heero, and said, “Only one horse is missing.”
Heero nodded. He knew which horse had been taken. The other thing Treize claimed to own besides Duo.
“Let’s get some sleep and then we will continue this in the morning.”
“Wouldn’t it be better to start now then wait?” Zechs asked.
Heero shook his head. “We wouldn’t be able to catch up.” He snorted, “Besides, they will leave a big enough trail, so we can follow easily.”
Zechs nodded. “They think they are free and clear and no one will check on the two they took.”
Heero looked around the room. “I must go to the caves and tell the Chief what has happened. Perhaps he will lend us a few warriors to help us when we find them.”
“Don’t you think we can handle them?”
“Not if we end up at the fortress. We will need help, isn’t that right, Zechs?”
Zechs nodded. “Yes……”
To be continued……………
