Scene Fourteen

Seripa's scouter went off, she grumbled, snatched it across the low table and gave the side button a good tap before she rolled out of her bunk, stood up, stretched, and turned around. En's bunk was empty. Cocking her brow, she placed the scouter on her ear and gave it a few presses before it finally located En's source of power level. Good, at least she's still in the building, she thought to herself. It took her a few misses before she finally located En, who was in the training room, punching and kicking the wall. Fortunately the walls were built to be well sustained against energy blast attacks and physical damages, En who was barely new to training however, was starting to feel inadequate and fatigue was starting to take over, each output less effective than the last one. She heard the door open and turned around, then flew over to Seripa, though she would have slipped if Seripa did not grab her arm in time, then got her to stand up properly, as best as she could anyway with her wobbly legs.

"Don't sneak out like that again." Said Seripa.

"You said that you're a grumpy sleeper."

"True, but if you get in trouble, it's not going to do you any favours if I can't locate you in time."

"What's that thing on your face?"

"This? This is a scouter, this is how I found you because it can locate you and others."

"I thought it only makes annoying noise to wake you up."

"That, is part of the deal. Now go clean before I see you at breakfast, don't stink up the whole room."

After having breakfast, Seripa lead En towards a new direction in the hallway and they exited the space station.

En almost forgot about the sand outside of the well sanitised space station. The moisture in the air felt a lot more prevalent and the temperature was still relatively cool, even the sunlight has not yet made its full appearance, everything was still bathed in a light foam of pre-dawn mist, the reddish brown sand dampened with a light mask of lilac shade made everything look as if it were in a dream, this made her feel slightly more relaxed. There was already a large group gathering around the ground roughly a hundred metres away from the entrance of the station, excitedly betting who would win and what the accumulated credits were so far on each side. From what En gathered, it seemed that they were betting on battle credits, which each team earn from their missions depending on the size of the planet and the nature of the missions themselves, not that she had any ideas of conquering to begin with, then divided between the teammates, and it would be on record on their scouters. The idea of purchasing things was very foreign to En at the time, but from the chattering she had gathered so far, the more credits you have the more of a likelihood of owning things that were more varied than of armours and food, which was sponsored by Frieza's Army anyway. So far there was an equivalent amount of bettings placed for both Bardock and Mema. Mesmerised by the dream-like sight and the unreal chattering, En did not notice how grumpy Seripa was until she became more audible.

"Where is that guy..."

"Hnn?"

"If he doesn't show up, Mema will win." Said Seripa as she glanced towards Mema, who was already preparing himself on the other side of the crowd. En felt her tail fluff up like a feather duster when she saw Purika standing beside the towering black-bearded Saiyan. That scene very much looked like a sickly coyote kissing up to a muscular bear. Seripa noticed En's reaction, but she knew even for a green trooper like En, even public images counted towards her barely starting out reputation within the Saiyan space station. So she merely whispered. "En. Your tail." The words flicked En back to reality like a switch and she wrapped it around her waist and pretended to look elsewhere, while keeping an eye out on Purika within her peripheral range. That sick bastard is looking my way, should I glare him back? She thought to herself. "Don't even think about it kid, he's stronger than you." Seripa whispered yet again. En looked up to her and wondered how she read her mind, when their eyes met, Seripa whispered. "I can read you like a new born chick, you're being too obvious, remember today's battle isn't about you, I'd keep my head down and learn from today's fight if I were you."

Bardock's arrival with Toma stirred stirred up new excitement within the crowd, the air was still cold and crisp, En could feel everyone's spirit pick up and the competitive disturbance began to churn the crowd's emotions, even her heart began to beat faster. "It's about time." Said Seripa, her hand rested confidently on her hip. En wondered why she did not sound worried at all, but as if she could not wait for this to be over in a laid back way. She then noticed that the place where Mema punched her had already recovered and not a trace was left, despite that it still looked a medium shade of pink at breakfast. She was about to say something when Toma gestured for everyone to be quiet and that the duel would start now. The crowd began to thin out towards the outside to form a circle and had Toma, Bardock and Mema in the centre.

"Rules of the duel. No killing, no maiming, the winner will be decided from the following reasons, either one side forfeits, or that there is no point carrying on when the outlooks are obvious. When the winner is announced, whatever promises the duellists made before this match will be kept by the loser, and if the promise is broken, we as the witnesses here will make sure it doesn't happen again. You know the drill. Let's go!" Toma took off and landed beside Seripa after he made the announcement. En poked her head out of the crowd to get a better look.

Bardock and Mema stood there and eyed each other. Mema looked even more grotesque when he smiled with a few teeth missing, courtesy of En's kicks and punches from yesterday. The breeze tussled Bardocks' hair, from a distance it looked like black flame in the wind, alive and alluring. He looked relaxed, his fists lightly held, his eyes observed Mema with a clouded look, En could not decipher what he was thinking about, there were no apparent clues, to her he just looked so much in one with his surroundings, like even he was not aware that he was there himself. En glanced at Mema, his beard caught the breeze like a bush that was being shaken lightly, his burly, scar-covered muscles flaunted intimidation and aggression. She felt her stomach tighten, she could not stand the idea of being close to him let alone being on his team.

Mema grew impatient by the passing second as his eye twitched, but neither side made a move, the crowd had their eyes on both of them, no one said a word, not even a shuffle was made, the entire spectable was still as an ancient ruins. En felt the anxiety eating her from the inside and she felt the need to suppress feeling sick and cupped her mouth with her hand. "Focus on the breathing kid." Whispered Seripa as she placed her hand on her shoulder. En did just that, but she could not keep her eyes off the duo. The mist was slowly unveiling the landscape, exposing its definitions, the saturation of the becoming light bounced off the beings and they began to stand out from the ground they were placed on, everything was awashed with a light bluish tinge as oppose to the lilac before, then slowly but steadily all tinge was gone and all that remained was the true colours on the planet's surface.

Bardock stepped to the side and faced Mema on a slant, crouched down slightly, slow and steady as a cobra unravelling from its tightly wound coil. Mema gave out an alarming roar and charged at Bardock like a boar. Mema slammed his barge-like shoulder against Bardock, who withstood the impact with his well guarded arms while being pushed behind several metres per second, sending the dry sand flying everywhere on the harsh, hard ground, cutting across the surface like a sharp knive driven across a crusty cake top. As the velocity began to wane, in split second, Bardock released his arms from a defensive guarding position and leapfrogged over the boulder-like Mema as he locked his feet around his neck then swung Mema all around and slammed his back onto the ground, making the ground shake and the disturbed sand rippled across the surface. Mema spared no chances as he grabbed Bardock's legs and threw him across the ground, then jumped up and charged at him again.

Bardock took a tumble in midair before flying up to dodge him, flipped backwards, landed behind him and was just in time to catch Mema who stopped charging, secured his arms around the middle of his rib cage and arched his back, driving Mema down on his shoulders and back yet again. Without waiting for Mema to get up nor recover, He jumped up and with his elbow down he drove it down just below Mema's lungs, knocking the air out of him. Bardock stood up and hopped a few metres backwards, waiting for Mema to make the next move as he danced around lightly on with his brilliantly effortless footwork like a cocky hare darting about on a prairie. Mema jumped up with a mighty roar and lounged at him in a flurry of furry punches, Bardock dodged a few before one landed on his face, using this opportunity, Mema grasped his face and slammed Bardock's body down to the ground and sat on top of him, continuing to punch him brutally across the face.

Bardock was in the red zone as he continued to withstand the powerful punches pelting down on him like mallets until when he caught a second delay from Mema, then with a sharp breath intake he roared and powered up, sending the sand rippling across the surface and his hair rustling about like a wild flax bush caught in a sandstorm. With a strong flex of his abdomen and positioning his hands beside him, Bardock destroyed the surface with his energy blasts, creating a small crater eliminating the ground below him then as Mema steadied himself to begin to take flight, Bardock flipped him over and drove him head down with a powerful body slam, creating more cracks in the crater.

Bardock shot up into the air and looked down at the crater, waiting for Mema to resurface among the sand cloud. Within a few seconds, Mema shot back up and headbutted Bardock fully on the forehead, in the middle of his temporary head injury, Mema grabbed him by the throat and proceeded to strangle him with his burly, furry hand. "Say you'll forfeit Bardock! Your bitches are mine!" Said Mema as he enforced more pressure with his fingers, closing the oxygen's path to his airways. Sensing that Bardock's body was going limp after a few small spasms without so much as a struggle, Mema loosened his grip, only to see Bardock vanish before his eyes. "What?! Where did he go?! That bastard!" He shouted, then heard his voice. "Look out below!" As soon as he looked up he was met with Bardock's two fists that interlaced each other and was punched directly on the top of his head. Seizing the moment, Bardock flipped his massive body upside down and flew towards the ground at an alarming speed and piledrove Mema to the ground. En felt the ground shook once again as she nearly tripped from the vibration.

When the smoke finally cleared and Bardock rose to the surface from yet another new crater the impact had created, Toma flew towards Mema to have a closer look. He was unconscious. "Bardock is the winner, that means Purika, your team will drop the grudges against ours as from today, if you go against it, everyone and anyone here can go against you." Said Toma as he flew back to Seripa and En with Bardock. The crowd went wild, the one that betted against Mema anyway, as they all whipped out their scouters and began transferring credits with the losers. En was surprised to see the losers comforming with the winners, though they looked unhappy they still kept with their words, some were even punching each other playfully before launching into a full blown grapple battle, and it was only a matter of time before people started placing bets on them. Keeping with the promises huh, thought En. They really meant what they said, it really is different from where I came from.
"Learned anything from today's battle kid?" Asked Seripa. En looked at her and at Toma and Bardock, she pondered what would be the best answer to give amongst companies she was not yet entirely comfortable of being around.

"Well?" Persisted Seripa.

"Um... I think watching the battle made me hungry, so I'm gonna go eat again."

"What!? You brat! We just ate!"

"You still have training to do!"

"Can't train on an empty stomach you know."

"Let her go Seripa, I'll see you back in the room brat." Said Bardock as he ruffled En's hair with his big hand.

Without thinking En grabbed hold of his arm from behind and slammed him foward, landing himself on his back..

The crowd cheered and they started placing new bets yet again.

"Oi shut up! It was a fluke! This isn't a real battle you punks!" Said Bardock as he got up, but En was already out of his sight.

"And what are you all looking at?!" Yelled Bardock as he looked back at Seripa and Toma. Seripa bursted into a full blown laughter, which infected Toma like a laugh gas who followed with hysterical guffaws of his own.

"What are you laughing about?! You too Toma?!"

"Oh admit it Bardock, you were owned!" Said Seripa almost breathlessly before she started laughing again, each laugh more hysterical and louder than the last one.

"It was a cheap shot!"

"Yeah it was, but you were still owned!" Gasped Toma as he continued to laugh, this time simply resorting to crouching on the ground and holding his stomach.

"I just saved your ass from that porcupine and this is how you thank me?!"

"You're the captain, it IS your job to save our asses, just as we save yours."

"Argh! It's a thankless job!"

"True that!" Said Toma.

"Hush up boy!" Said Bardock as he backhand slapped him on the back of the head.

"Oww." Said Toma as he rubbed his head.

"You have to admit though Bardock, kid's a fast learner." Said Seripa, who finally calmed down from the intense laughing session.

"You think? Do you think she'll be ready for the next level though, you know, the test that we all have to go through?" Asked Toma.

"We'll have to see, I'll see you guys at dinner." Said Bardock before he left.

"You know Seripa, it's been ages since I've seen Bardock fight like that."

"Yes, it is nice not having to find him getting into a bar fight."

"I mean, he was actually focused the whole time, do you think he'll be up to his game soon?"

"He's never left the game Toma, just misplaced." Said Seripa.

Toma looked at Seripa, her eyes looking across the horizon. She then turned around and said.

"As for you, I bet I can kick your ass again today!"

"You wish!"

They raced down the hallway together and play punched at the same time.

I think this is my favourite chapter that I've written so far, I looked up several pro wrestling videos and terminologies before writing this, while in the middle of writing it, I had an idea of what the next chapter is going to be about as well, in a more clearer way, stay tuned!
In case you're intrigued, go look up a wrestling term called 'German suplex', I'm sure you'll be amused from what you can find, it's one of the most popular moves as well!
