January: New Year, New Life

Day two of \"Operation Cupid\" (the name we came up with for the Duo Heero set up) and stno pno progress. Although Duo\'s thoroughly convinced that he\'s never goingrecorecognize love if it comes up and bites him in the butt, but this is mostly because he had yet another mnglengless fling with an idiotic man who only wanted a young piece of ass. Sometimes I think that Duo goes home with those guys because he\'s afraid of caring about someone. Blame it on being an orphan.

I told Dorothy that Duo was an orphan who was taken in by an eccentric buissnessman and his daughter at age ten, because as Howard puts it he \"really liked the kid\'s spunk.\" At which she told me that I didn\'t need to plead the case for Duo with Heero anymore because he was already head over heels, and mourning every moment he wasn\'t around him. I think she was being a bit melodramatic, but she assured me that behind the stoic mask, a heroine of a Gothic novel resided, which basically means he\'s going to love the fact that he can help a poor orphan chil off offering his love. I can\'t see him really thinking that. Albeit, the image of Heero standing on a seaside cliff in a billowy, but plain colored, dress staring mournfully at the ocean was more then amusing.
Then I explained that when Duo was a kid, he was bounced from foster home to foster home because no one wanted him; they had too many kids, or they just couldn’t deal with his personality. So when I told her how Howard found him huddled in an alley, basically trying to whore himself for food, he took Duo home and adopted him. Of course ten-year-old, tenacious Duo didn\'t trust any of it until he saw the adoption papers that said he really was Howard\'s son. Even then it took him a while to accept that he had a permanent home. He kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, which never did.
In his opinion it\'s still floating somewhere waiting, but Howard still accepted his son when Duo admitted he was gay. Duo just doesn\'t think he can be loved. He\'s convinced he\'s unlovable. Funny, he\'s the most lovable person that I know.
When she left my office she was sniffly and saying that she had to tell Heero this, even if it would only torture him. Now if Heero only had a sob story like that, Duo\'d be his in a heartbeat. The unlovable people like to stick together.
