chapter 16
Here’s another chapter of outlaw. I seem to be on a roll right now so I’m going to work on this chapter beforloselose it.
Oh, and I have been using the spell check and the grammar check on this computer. I like that it gives suggestions for comma and fragments. It’s cool thing.

Chapter 16
Duo’s eyes snapped open when he heard the door open but he didn’t move. He feinted sleep until Trant was satisfied. He tossed back the covers and putting his feet to the floor. He glanced over at Hilde who was sleeping. He smiled. She needed her rest. He quickly dressed except for his boots. He moved silently across the floor to the shuttered window. He worked carefully to pry it open. It made little sound as he worked on it. After a few moments, he had it open. Moonlight filtered in and he gently pushed on the glass that had been placed in it. It had been cut oddly and didn’t fit well. It was just a matter of a hard push and it was out. It made a soft thud as it fell into the snow 12 feet below. Duo grinned as he leaned out the window. The cold night air blew into the room, making it instantly cold. He turned back to the bed and knelt beside it.
“Hilde, babe. Wake up. Come on, we’re outta here.”
he picked up her clothes and shoved them under the blankets as she stirred.
“Ow, Duo! That’s cold,” she murmured.
“Dress, babe, we’re getting out of here.” He said, softly. He glanced at the door and then at the window. “Trant has underestimated me again.”lde lde sat up after slipping her clothes on. She kicked off the blankets and stepped to the floor. She reached for her boots and jacket. Duo stopped her for putting on her boots.
“Over there.” He whispered. “ Put them on over there.”
She nodded and slipped her jacket on. She then padded quietly to the open window and looked out. “We’re jumping, aren’t we?
He nodded. “I’ll go first, then catch you.”
She shook her head, “No, let me, I’m lighter, I won’t sink in so much,”
He looked at her, and then nodded. “Ok. Jump straight down. The window glass is in the snow somewhere so be careful if you land on it.”
She nodded, slipped on her boots and reached up to grab the top of the window. She had to sit to gut aut and as soon as her feet we re dangling she pushed herself out and let go. Duo watched her fall and land in the snow. He watched as she scrambled out of the way and looks up at him. He nodded and did the same thing she did. As soon as he hit the snow she was by his side, pulling him up. He brushed off some of the snow and pulled her to his arms.
“You ok?”
She nodded. ”You?”
He nodded. “Come on!”

The house was dark as Heero and his party rode up to it. He waved for everyone to dismount and move toward the house. He turned to Relena and Sally, indicating they stay behind for the moment. Sally began to protest but it died on her lips at the look he gave her. She nodded and stepped back with the horses.
WuFei reached out and placed a hand on her shoulder, squeezing it slightly. “They may need medical attention.”
She nodded and glanced over to Relena who was staring wide-eyed at the small cabin.
Sally glanced to the east and saw that the dawn was just breaking, sending reddish streaks across the sky. It was going to be another cold crisp day. She looked longingly toward the small cabin, in hopes that they could go inside and warm up. She rubbed her hands together as she waited for the ok signal.
The Indians had disappeared in various places around the house, surrounding it so no one could escape as the others moved toward it. Heero stepped up to the door and kicked it open, pulling his handgun as he did.
At first, nothing happened, as the group rushed in, then there was a started yell as the men surprised Middi. Trant was a little slower to react, considering Middi had drugged him with Hilde’rbs.rbs. He looked around groggily at the men surrounding him.
“Where are they?” Heero asked gruffly.
“Huh? Who?” Came the reply.
Middi looked up toward the loft. “Up there, but I bet they are gone now.”
Heero frowned as Trowa bounded up the steps to the loft.
After a few moments he called down to the group. “It’s empty. Looks like they jumped out the window up here.”
Heero looked back at Middi and frowned. She grinned slightly. Trant sat still confused in the events that were happening.
“What did you feed him?” He asked looking at the blonde girl.
She pointed to the packages on the table. Heero looked at them and his frown deepened.
“Hilde’s herbs.” He said, tonelessly. He turned to WuFei. “Get Sally and Relena and bring them.”
Heero walked over to Trant, tilted his head up and looked at the man’s bleary eyes. “How much did you give him and which one of these? Sally will want to know.”
Middi shrugged and pointed to the open bag.
“Periwinkle” Heero replied. He held up the bag, and then turned to Middi once again.
“I only gave him a little bit in a cup of hot water.”
Sally came in followed by Relena. Heero motioned to her to come over and let her look at Trant. “Periwinkle poisoning? How did he get…?” She looked over to Heero, and then nodded. “Hilde.” then she looked over at Middi. “You did this?”
Middi nodded.
Sally chuckled. She reached out and patted Middi’s shoulder. “You did all right, but he’s gonna need to sleep it off.”
She turned back to Heero, “Hilde and Duo?”
“Got away.”
“Are you going to go look for them?”
“The chief took care of it.”
Sally turned to the group then back to Middi and the groggy trant. “And what to do with the two of you.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Shit, Hilde. I think we’re lost.”
“What do you mean, lost?”
“Just what I mean… lost.”
“Duo how can we be lost?”
“I don’t, it just happened.” He replied, frustration in his voice. “I don’t recognize any of the land marks. Where are we?”
Hilde sighed. “Well, the sun will be up soon and we will be able to get our bearings, right?”
“Yeah,” he replied with hesitation.
“Duo?”
“Oh, shit, I think we are in trouble.”
The sun was just starting to peak over the horizon, when Hilde saw a group of riders in front and to the side of them.
“Hello, Duo Maxwell. I’m sure Treize would love to talk to you.”
“Duo?”
“It’s not my fault! I don’t know we were this close to the fortress!”
“Come on,” Came the voice, “Get the hands in the air.” The talker reached out and grasped the reins and pulled the horse forward. “And, Duo, don’t talk.”
Duo went to open his mouth but snapped it shut again, slumping slighting in the saddle. They traded one prison for another. And to top it all off they didn’t even have the items he wanted.
Yep, they were in ble.ble.
To be continued……
