Illness of Apathy.

***

Author’s note: Well…it certainly has taken too long once again…I have probably lost many readers…although, for those who are new or who stuck out the process…the séance begins!!! Okay, last time I got a review from “bassooooon1” who said that she (I’m assuming that they are a female) wanted in on the séance…so at the end of this chapter, I shall begin the séance and she will be enveloped in the world of it. Mwahaha. However, I really should get started on the chapter first…shouldn’t I?

Warnings: Only the usual my friend. Well…there is also going to be a new character of my own creation but there are already many of those and no one has seemed too bothered by them so far.

Disclaimer: Now this is a necessity!!! Ah, well…I’ve never personally had a problem with them…so, once again, I do not own Gundam Seed. I am sure we all have faith in that…

“Well then, you’d better get down there.” Athrun piped up.

“Yep.” And Dearka strode back to the doors, pushed them open and walked down the stairway to the office, ready to meet whoever this new boy was.

Nicol groaned as he awakened from his dream riddled sleep. He checked his watch to see how long he had been out. According to the shiny glass face that tells all, he had been asleep for about an hour and a half. Or twenty five minutes…but he figured that rounding was appropriate in this situation.

“Awake at last?” Called the Secretary from his desk, a few meters away.

“It seems so.” Nicol replied with a polite smile. //Please don’t take that the wrong way…// The boy prayed he wouldn’t have to stay in any longer than he already had, although upon admitting to himself that he had slept most of the time away, Nicol found it hadn’t been too bad.
//My dreams were the strangest though…//
But as he exited the office, Nicol found himself having a hard time recalling the exact details of the dreams and he chalked it up to being his tired mind and resigned himself to forgetting about them.

“Hm…now what?” Nicol murmured silently, to no one in particular. He stretched and yawned as a wave of sleepiness overcame him. Nicol’s vision wavered and he stumbled a bit.

“Ungh.” Nicol continued to walk along the side of the office’s outside wall, grasping the smooth surface desperately before slumping to the ground in a pile of broiling hot limbs, limbs that he was oddly aware of in this state of weakness.
//Well, this is almost ironic…// Nicol thought, //I’m right outside of the busiest, most noticeable part of the school and yet I’m alone with no help…about to pass out right here.//

And he did just that, eyes closed, fated to return to his previous state.

Cian Durran waited inside the principal’s office, within the school’s main office but behind a closed door.
When he had first arrived, Cian had seen a slight boy around the same age as himself, obviously extremely tired because he was completely out. He had paused only a moment to take in the other boy’s appearance. He was very pretty, even though his eyes were closed. Cian liked eyes. They were the window to the soul after all, but he could forgive the boy for not showing his this time because of his current condition.
He had been talking with the Principal for the last twenty-five minutes approximately, if the foreboding black clock strung up on the far wall was to be trusted. Nothing about the room was trustworthy though, from it’s décor to its occupant.
Indeed, as soon as he had first laid eyes on Dr. Stile Cian hadn’t particularly trusted him. Cian was confident about his opinion too. His intuitions about people were usually accurate.

“I wonder who that boy was.” Cian muttered to himself, more out of boredom that actual interest.

He was relived that Dr. Stile had left though, to check up on Dearka’s whereabouts.

//Dearka. What an odd name…although I guess I’m being hypocritical. My name’s not to be bragged about either. But I kind of like his name. It’s exotic.//

As he was thinking these thoughts, Dr. Stile entered the room once again. He turned to Cian.

“Sorry for the delay but there’s been a problem with one of my students. He’s passed out in the hallway!”

The doctor said this with a casual, almost amused air…although not much was humorous about the occurrence. Cian hoped the boy was alright, although the surprised and concerned look was more forced out of duty than genuine feelings.

//I’ve never been comfortable enough to be truthful with any school staff before…they make you feel like you can say anything…but when you do, all you get is betrayal it seems. I hope this school proves me wrong but so far…I doubt it will.//

Perhaps his sceptical expression was noticed by the principal for a sort of glare had replaced Dr. Stile’s usual placidly pleased gaze.

“Anyways, I have to get this all sorted out…it was your mentor who found the boy, right outside of these doors! He was on his way to come and get you so…he should be in here soon but he’s reluctant to leave his friend.

//Well, that’s admirable.// Cian though with an understanding smile.

“Alright.” The boy said in dutiful reply. It wasn’t much but was apparently satisfactory as the Principal had thankfully decided to take leave and see to the boy who had passed out.

Cian flipped his gold ponytail behind his back, disliking the itch it caused placed beside his face. He had almost become bored enough to take a leaf from that sleepy boy’s books and pass out into dreamland himself, when a boy with sun coloured skin and a pair of purple eyes, which intrigued Cian very much, entered the office.

The boy’s face was inexpressive but his eyes easily told Cian a different story.

“You’re my mentor aren’t you?” Cian asked, although he already knew the answer.

“Yeah, my name is Dearka Elfman. It’s nice to meet you.”

Cian wiggled his nose inconspicuously. “My name is Cian Durran. You’re worried about your friend aren’t you?”

Dearka started. “So you heard about that huh? Stupid Dr. Stile. The teachers around here can’t keep anything to themselves. So that’s pretty much your first piece of advice.” Dearka smirked, his nerves beginning to calm.

“Yeah…I gathered that. I don’t really like your principal…I was hoping your other teachers were better…”

Dearka snorted. “Yeah…right. We’ll be getting a whole new set of teachers next year though. This program is new and a lot of the teachers have found that they aren’t too crazy teaching our lot.”

Cian had to smile at that. “Are you guys any worse than the average student then?”

Dearka just grinned, a mischievous and undeniably charming sort of grin. Cian felt his face flush.

“W-well…what are you supposed to be showing me?” Cian asked, forcing his blush to go down by way of subject change.

Dearka sighed. “The school, program, teachers…stuff like that for the whole afternoon. You’ll be following me around to the different classes and such, and then I’ll show you to your dorm. You’re sharing one right?”

Cian checked the note he had set on the table. He skim read it. “Yeah, my dorm partner is…Seth Crameliep.”

“Huh. I don’t think I’ve ever met that guy. Ah, well…my friends are in the sick ward right now, visiting my friend Kira, who has a fever. We can get out of here and go to hang with them…or we can tour the school first.”

Cian shook his head. “Nah, let’s go visit your friends first. They probably want you back…”

Dearka frowned. “Yeah…I’d like to tell Kira about Nicol…so he knows what is going on.”

“Nicol…is that the boy that passed out?”

Dearka nodded before guiding Cian out of the main office and towards the sick ward.

Nicol stared up at an annoyingly uncaring face. The face of his principal.

//Darn it. I was almost hoping that no one would find me.// Nicol thought, upset by his own bitterness.

“Where am I?” He questioned.

“The nurse’s office. He’s having a look at you before you can go and sleep in the sick ward. You must be worn out.”

Nicol could barely keep himself from raising an eyebrow at this statement.

//I was found passed out against a wall…of course I’m worn out!//

Usually Nicol could manage a sort of respect for the staff. After all, they could only do what was in their power and they usually did everything that they could…however, with Dr. Stile, there was much left to be desired.

Nicol sighed as he let his head rest against another cold, hard wall. He was getting used to the sensation.

The nurse Strode in confidently, looking experienced and trustworthy. Nicol already liked him. His face showed competence.

“Alright. So, I’ve gathered that you were in the office a while earlier and then you left when you woke up but didn’t get very far before passing out alongside the wall just a few steps outside?”

Nicol was almost embarrassed. “Yeah…that’s pretty much it.” He replied with a faint blush.

“Well, let’s check this out then.” The man said as he pressed a gentle hand to Nicol’s forehead.

It took only about ten seconds for the nurse to deduct that Nicol did not have a fever.

“Well…you aren’t physically sick. Have you been depressed lately?” The man lowered his voice at this, wisely, because Dr. Stile was just outside the door.

Nicol bowed his head in thought. He had some reasons why he could be depressed. Many reasons actually. He hadn’t reflected on it before.

“I don’t know.” He answered truthfully, though still feeling like an idiot.

//How can someone not know if they’re depressed?// Nicol chastised himself.

However, the nurse just nodded with an understanding that was highly unexpected.

“I see. Well, you might want to think about that. You may just not be getting enough sleep or not eating enough. I would consider all these possibilities but in the meantime, you’ll have to stick it out and just get some rest. Come to me if anything that worries you comes up. I’ll do the best I can…and I personally wouldn’t feel too comfortable talking to him.” The man finished, indicating Dr. Stile outside.

“But don’t tell anyone I said that to you.” He added with a wink.

Yep, Nicol definitely liked the nurse.

I take far too long to update as usual…with the same excuses as always…I’ll try to come up with something more creative as an excuse next time…I Promise! Now, onto the séance!!!
Yemon.: Alright…I have set up the table with a glittery table mat…to attract the spirits you know? If you wish to comment on my chapter or be in the séance…tell me so in a review and what you would like to do in the séance as well…and I’ll write it down in this little note!!!
For now though…I fare thee well!!!
