Heero was out on the balcony of his apartment, smoking, watching Quatre sleep through the window, when he heard gunshots cominom tom the nearby alley. His heart sank to his stomach as he grabbed his shirt, jumping right off the balcony and ran into the alley. “Oh my god, Wufei-kun,” Heero whispered, lifting the Chinese man carefully and walking to the light. “Oh god, please don’t leave me. I need you. You have a wife and child who need you, too.

“Hee-chan,” Wufei said weakly, placing his hands on Heero’s cheek. “I’m so… sorry…”

“Don’t talk,” he said. “Save your strength.”

“No, let me talk,” he said. “I don’t… have much… time left. Thank you for always being there for me. I only wish… that I could’ve had one more… night in your arms.” With the last of his strength, he kissed his cheek and forehead, looking deeply into Heero’s eyes. “You have such beautiful eyes. I’m glad I was able to look into them one last bef before I… die…” Smiling, Wufei’s eyes closed for the last time.

“Farewell, my beloved friend,” Heero said. “May you find a place in the presence of your god, and may hosts of angels bring you to your rest.”

Quatre had been woken up by the gunfire, and when he couldn’t see Heero anywhere, he ran to the balcony, both relieved and shocked to HeerHeero carrying Wufei’s body up the stairs toward the apartment. “Oh, Scott, I’m sorry,” he said, helping him inside. After laying Wufei’s body on the landing, Heero fell into Quatre’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably. “It’s okay, Baby. I know this is hard, but you have to be strong. You have to be brave and carry Wufei’s memory in your heart. Allah will guide his soul to a safe haven, with all the comforts of paradise.”

“I hope you’re right, Quatre,” he said, the quietest Quatre had ever heard him. “I haven’t been this sad since the day I lost you.” A single tear slipped down Quatre’s face, the pain that was resonating from Heero ripping him apart. “Why are you crying, Quatre?”

“Do you have to ask?” Quatre said. “When you hurt, I hurt. Wufei was my friend too. I wasn’t as close to him as you were, but he was still my friend.”

“I’m sorry,” he said. “Of course he is.”
********************************************************************
“He’s WHAT?!” Trowa cried. “He’s Quatre’s lover from before the war?!”

“Yes,” Hilde said. “When Father kicked Scott out of the house for being gay, he went to a male prostitute house in Tokyo. That’s where he learned Japanese. They got separated at the beginning of the occupation, and he’s been searching for his koi since the beginning.”

“Did you know about this, Duo?” Trowa asked.

“No, I didn’t,” Duo said. “There’s a lot about Heero I don’t know. He hardly talked about his past before the war, and never mentioned this.”

“I understand that,” Trowa said. “I can also understand why Heero was so eager to take Quatre under his wing.”

Just then, Hilde’s phone rang. “Hello? Hi, Quatre. Yeah? He’s WHAT?! We’ll be right over!”

“What is it, Hilde?” Ami cried.

“Wufei’s been shot!”

“One down, five more to go,” said a man in the shadows.

“I don’t think so!” sneered the young, long-haired brunette. The man looked up at him and barely had time to breathe before Duo had him off the ground and pinned against the wall.

“Oh, god!” the man whimpered. “Please don’t hurt me!”

“And why the hell not?” Duo fumed. “You just killed one of my best friends! Who cares if you have someone waiting for you at home, ‘cause I sure as hell don’t!”

“Please, I beg you!” the man said. “Let me go!”

“I’ll bet that when you dragged that man into the alley, he begged the same of you,” Duo said. “Why should I grant a murderous son of a bitch like you the very wish that you wouldn’t grant an innocent man?” Behind Duo was another man who took Duo by the shoulders and pulled him away. “What the hell?”

“You talk too much, Akashi,” he said. Before Duo could respond, another gunshot was heard, and everything went dark as Duo fell to the ground.

“Good job, Sano, you just shot our hostage!” Akashi snapped.

“Oh, shut your face,” Sano spat back.

“What’s going on back there!?” came a voice from the other end of the street.

“Let’s get the hell out of here!” Sano cried, pulling Akashi onto his feet and they both ran.

“I said what’s going… Holy SHIT!” said the young, long- and silver-haired man. “Duo!” Zechs ran to the side of his friend, trying to revive him. “Come on, Duo. Wake up, please. Don’t leave us now.”

“It hurts,” Duo whimpered, his eyes fluttering open. Zechs checked Duo’s vital signs and the severity of the wound and breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t a fatal wound, but would need to be cleaned before it became infected. “Where’s Trowa? I want to see Trowa.”

“I’m right here, Duo,” Trowa said, running up the alley. “Zechs, did you see what happened?”

“No, and I have no idea who did this to him,” Zechs said.

“You’re going to be okay, Duo,” Trowa said.

“I know I will be, now that you’re here,” he said, smiling weakly.
*******************************
“Duo!” Ami cried, throwing her arms around her brother as Trowa and Zechs helped him inside. “Oh, thank God you’re safe!”

“I’ll be fine,” he said. “You okay, guys?”

“I’ll be okay,” Quatre said. “Not sure about Heero, though. He just lost his best friend.” Heero said nothing, but silent tears fell.” I’m worried about him.”

“Heero…” Duo wrapped his arms around Heero’s shoulders from behind, but he jerked away.

“Don’t fucking touch me, Duo!” he snapped. “You betrayed me!”

“I’m trying to help you, Heero,” Duo said, almost as defensively as sympathetically. “He was my friend too.”

“If you want to help me right now, just get out of my house,” he said, finally turning to him. “Give me some time to work through this, and I’ll come find you, all right?”

“All right,” he said. “Trowa, we should both go.”

“Yes,” Trowa said, already standing by the balcony stairs. Ami and Hilde left soon afterwards, leaving Heero and Quatre in the apartment, now in the bedroom.

“You want to talk?” Quatre said, holding Heero in his arms.

“You want me to start blubbering again?” Heero laughed weakly. “I love you, Quatre.”

“And you know I love you,” Quatre said. Heero broke down again and Quatre held him tighter. “It’s okay to cry, baby, so just let it all out. I’m here for you always.”

“You don’t realize how grateful I am for that,” he sobbed quietly. When the crying finally subsided, he looked into Quatre’s eyes. “Help me forget.”

“Yes,” Quatre breathed, seizing his lover’s mouth with his own. Heero hungrily ran his hands down Quatre’s sides and onto his hips, while devouring the tongue intruding into his mouth. Not breaking this kiss for even a moment, Quatre undid Heero’s pants, pulling out the hardening cock and stroking it with both hands.

“Oh, Quatre,” Heero moaned, his eyes rolling back into his head and his head falling back. “Oh, baby…” The moaning cued Quatre to pump harder with his hands. “Quatre, you’re driving me crazy!” Quatre broke the kiss and grinned. He quickly dropped to his knees and pushed Heero down onto the floor, where he continued to strip Heero’s pants off. Seeing his koi with his cock standing at full attention made Quatre even hungrier. Without much effort, he went down on Heero, deep-throating him as he had learned so well to do as a prostitute. “Fuck, fuck, fuck…” was all that Heero could say, Quatre’s blow job making him harder by the second.

“Come for me,” Quatre said, pulling off briefly.

“Soon,” Heero said, moaning. “Oh, Quatre, oh…” His balls were tightening and he knew he was soon to orgasm. “Oh my god… QUATRE!!” The little blonde felt a wash of salty-tangy liquid blast into his mouth, and he swallowed as much as he could, letting the rest of it drip out of his mouth and onto Heero’s cock before pulling off. After catching his breath, Heero grabbed a little towel from the nearby table and wiped Quatre’s mouth with a playful laugh. “You missed some."

“Thanks,” he chuckled. “Feel better?”

“Very much,” Heero said. “Quatre, I haven’t gotten a blowjob that good for ten years! You’ve got your touch for that down to an art.”

“You taught me how to do it so well,” Quatre sighed. “So I can’t take all the credit for it.”
********************************
The funeral a few days later was uniquely diverse. Tray’s services were conducted by an Islamic cleric, and Wufei’s family chose a Buddhist ceremony for him. Wufei was lain to rest next to where Heero himself would one day be buried. Quatre would be buried one day next to his son, Tray, who was buried next to Wufei. As Quatre watched Heero say his final goodbyes to the young Chinese man, he saw how devoted the two men had been to each other. Not long after Relena’s murder, they had found comfort in each others arms. Sally’d had no idea of the secret life they’d had when he went on business trips and Heero acted as his bodyguard. Wufei had taken that secret with him to his grave, and Quatre knew that Heero would never let anyone know that might tell it to Sally one day.

“You okay,?” Trowa asked, startling Quatre out of his thoughts. He nodded, and Trowa kissed the top of his head. “I am SO sorry about your son, Quatre, and I’m sorry I hurt you.”

“It’s okay,” he said. “I love you, Trowa, but every time I see that scar on your cheek or any of the scars on my own body, I can’t help thinking of all the bad. But then I see the tattoo on our right hands, and I’m reminded of all the good times we had together, like when you asked me to marry you.”

“I hate to say this, but the main reason I did that was to convince myself to stay away from Duo,” Trowa admitted.

“You might want to have this back,” Quatre said, pulling the engagement ring off his hand and giving it to Trowa. “I suppose you could give it to Duo, since you love him now.”

“I could never give this to anyone else,” Trowa said. “I have a piece of my heart to you with that ring. Goodbye, Quatre. I look forward to seeing you around.” From opposite sides of the field, both Duo and Heero had watched Quatre give Trowa back the ring. They could only imagine how hard it must’ve been for the blonde to do that. As Trowa approached him, Duo smiled sympathetically. “Let’s go home, Duo.”

“Right,” he said, taking Trowa’s hand. As they got into Duo’s car, Duo kissed Trowa.

“What was that for?” Trowa asked.

“Just because I love you,” he said.
************************************
Upon arriving home, Trowa and Duo found a small, hand-written note taped to the door. “Dear Brother Barton and Brother Maxwell, we’re sorry to hear about your friend. If you need anything, just give us a call and we’ll see what we can do. Your friends, the Elders.” Trowa smilehe Mhe Mormon missionaries had been to their home a number of times. While they had never approved of Trowa and Duo’s relationship, or any of the other boys’ gay relationships, they had always been there when needed for strength. Trowa was amazed to see how devoted they were not only to their religion, but to them as well. Duo had been less than amused by the religion, but understood their devotion to God, and appreciated the young men’s friendship more than he’d been willing to admit.

“What were you asking me about in the car, about us needing bodyguards or something?” askeasked.

“I think that if Wufei was a target to those assholes, and you said they had five more to go, there may be more people after us,” Trowa explained. Just then, a window smashed, sending both of them to the floor for cover. “Duo, are you all right.”

“Something hit my head,” he said, reaching up to touch the bleeding gash on the back of his head, and wincing.

“What’s this?” Trowa asked, looking around the room and spotting a rock with a message scroll attached. “I think this is what hit you.”

“Beautiful,” Duo said sarcastically. As Trowa opened the note and read it, his face became pale. “What’s wrong, Babe?”

“Oh my God,” Trowa said, his hand coming to his mouth. “They’ve got them…”

“You mean Sorensen and Minamoto?” he cried. Trowa nodded, sinking into the chair, his eyes filling with tears. He took the note and read it silently. “We’ve got your friends, Barton. These Mormons will die if you and Maxwell don’t give yourselves up to us! If you want to see them alive again, come to the Tokyo Tower elevator tomorrow by noon.” He looked up at Trowa, who was crying hysterically. “Trowa…”

“God, Duo, what am I going to do?” he sobbed. “I won’t let you come with me. I won’t have the one I love more than life risking his life to get me out of my mess.”

“What are you saying?”

“I’m saying that I’m going to give myself up and get Justin and Sugachi out,” Trowa said, taking Duo’s hand and squeezing it. “But I won’t let you go with me. I won’t let them get you too.” Before he knew what was going on, Duo smacked him.

“Stop talking about committing suicide, you idiot love of my life!” Duo yelled, also crying. “You can’t stop me from going with you! We’re going in there together, and getting them out! We’re both going to come out of this alive or we’re not coming out at all! You got me on that, Trowa?”

“I love you, Duo,” Trowa said, and Duo threw his arms around him. “I love you so much! I don’t want you to get hurt. I don’t want to lose you.”

“You won’t…” he cooed, sitting on Trowas lap backwards. “If we die, we die together.” Trowa continued to cry, and Duo held him tightly until his tears began to subside. “I think they’re still alive, and all right. They’re tough guys.”

“I hope to God that you’re right, Duo,” he said. “I want to forget for a little while. Just for tonight, I just want to forget my problems and feel something besides pain.

“My Trowa…” Duo sighed. “I hope this isn’t our last night together in this life, but if it is, I want to make it a memorable one.”
*********************************
In a warehouse somewhere in south Tokyo, the two elders huddled together in the corner of the room. Elder Minamoto had been saying prayers since the men had been thrown in there. Elder Sorensen had sung as many songs as he could remember, checking his watch every few minutes. Very little had been explained to them in regards to why they’d been kidnapped, except that it was to get Trowa and Duo to give themselves up to these men.

“Mother and Father are probably frantic, not knowing where I am,” Sugachi said. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore.”

“Just keep praying, Elder,” Justin said. “The Lord will protect us, or take us to Him if it’s His will.” Justin was just as scared as his companion was, and knew that they could both very easily be dead before the next sunrise. At this point, he wished that he could call his mother and father in Utah and at least tell them goodbye.

“I don’t want to die, Elder Sorensen,” Sugachi said. “But I don’t want them to die either. I’d rather give up my own life than see either of them killed.”

“I would do that as well,” he said, embracing him softly and quietly. “Get some sleep, if you can. We’re going to need it.”
********************************
The next morning, Heero and Quatre went to Trowa and Duo’s apartment, having gotten a call from Duo during the night after Trowa had fallen asleep. He had explained the situation and the state Trowa was in, which had concerned Quatre greatly.

“Thanks for coming, guys,” Duo said, ushering them inside. “We’ve basically go two hours to give ourselves up before they kill those two men.”

“We’ll go in together, all four of us,” Heero said.

“I don’t think that would be wise,” Trowa said. “That is exactly what they want us to do. They know that we’ll huddle around each other and you’ll try to help us.”

“Trowa, we’re a team,” Heero said. “And there’s no I in that word. We can’t split up if we want to succeed. We’ve already lost one of our own to them. We can’t afford to lose any more unless we all go down together. If we die, we die together.”

“That means a lot coming from you, Heero,” Trowa said. The two men hugged briefly, and then they all set to preparing for possibly their last great stand against their enemies. About an hour before the deadline, they drove to the Tokyo Tower and waited, their pistols well-hidden and padded so that if they were searched, they would not be found. At exactly noon, as the bell of a nearby school’s clock rang, the elders were brought out by three men in black suits.

“Are you here to give yourselves up?” yelled one of the men.

“We are,” Trowa said. “Let these men go on their way, and we will give ourselves up to you!”

“Release them!” yelled the man.

“May I speak to them?” Trowa asked. The man looked at his superiors, and they nodded. Justin and Sugachi ran toward Trowa, who quickly embraced Justin. “Are you all right?”

“Yes, we’re fine,” he said. Heero handed them each a gun, much to their surprise. “What are these for?”

“There are five bullets in each of these guns,” Heero explained. “Use them carefully.”

“That’s enough!” yelled the tallest of the men. “Step away from them and put your hands on your heads!”

“I can’t let you go in there by yourself!” Quatre cried, grabbing Trowa’s wrist as he raised it. “I’m coming with you!”

“No, Quatre, you can’t come with us,” Duo said before Trowa could respond. “You go in there, and your life will be forfeit.”

“Then let it be forfeit,” Quatre said. Trowa impulsively kissed him, and then shook his head. “Trowa, please…”

“No, my Quatre, you cannot go,” Trowa said sweetly. “I want you to continue living. Duo’s right.”

“Trowa…”

“Please, Quatre, try to understand,” he said softly.

“Be very careful in there,” Heero said. Duo quickly kissed Heero, then withdrew. “And may God go with you.”

“Goodbye, Heero,” Duo said softly. Heero grasped his hand tightly before Duo slipped away and followed Trowa to what would be almost certain death for them.

“Trowa…” Quatre sighed.

“Come on, Quatre,” Heero said softly. “There’s nothing more we can do.” In the car, Quatre cried harder than he’d ever cried. He knew he would probably never see his ex-lover alive again. Heero also cried, that last kiss that Duo had given him before walking away burning his lips.

As Trowa and Duo were thrown into the small room, Duo fell onto his face. Trowa ran to him, and held him tightly. “We’re going to die, aren’t we?” Duo whimpered. “I’ll never be able to see my daughters or their mother again and tell them goodbye, will I?”

“Duo, as long as we’re together, we have nothing to fear,” Trowa said. “I love you so much. In death, there can be no alternative to dying in each others’ arms.”

“I love you more than you could ever know,” he said. Just then, a man who they had never seen before walked into the room, a large gun in his hands. As the man aimed his gun at them, Duo buried his face in Trowa’s arms and whispered. “Goodbye, my love.” As Trowa watched in horror, Duo’s blood was splattered all over him from the bullet wounds in his head and back.

“I come to be with you soon, my beloved,” Trowa said. He closed his eyes, then heard a gunshot, felt a hot pain cutting into his chest, and felt his lifeblood spilling onto his chest. He held Duo’s body close and tight. He opened his eyes one last time to look at his lover, his sight slowly fading. His eyes closed again and he leaned back against the wall, breathing out one final “I’m sorry,” with his last breath.
