Chapter Two: Discovery
Warning: None; pretty much all clear in this chapter.
Groggily, Athrun woke up to the cheerful clanging of pans in the kitchen. He gazed at the clock through still cloudy eyes. It was already ten in the morning, and he decided he should get up and greet his friend. However, he became suddenly aware of his nakedness as a cold draft swept over him. He could feel his face flush. His boxers were still around his ankles and dried cum was still on his chest.
“I really hope Kira didn’t see this,” he whispered to himself as he re-wrapped his body with his blanket. Kira was hovering over the stove, and did not notice Athrun sneak past and into the hallway. He dropped his blanket in his doorway and darted directly to the bathroom. “Shower!” was the only cognisant thought running through his head. He did so quickly. He pulled the clothes he had left in the previous night from the hamper and dressed. Before leaving the bathroom he prayed Kira was oblivious. With one final deep breath, he opened the door and went to the kitchen.
“Morning!” said Kira, in his usual, cheerful voice. Athrun tried to repeat the pleasantry as innocently as possible as he took his seat at the table. Soon after, a large stack of pancakes was placed in front of him. Athrun could not describe his level of relief. Clearly, Kira hadn’t a clue about what he did last night. He began eating his pancakes.
Between bites he asked, “I thought you hated making pancakes?” in an effort to start a conversation. He wasn’t complaining; he loved pancakes. However, he was completely incapable of making them.
“I do,” replied Kira, “but I’m feeling generous today…” A mischievous smile accompanied this remark, followed by a lull in the conversation. Athrun was enjoying his pancakes while trying to figure out what the plans were for the rest of the day. Usually, this kind of generosity came with conditions.
“What were you doing last night?” asked Athrun. He was unable to think of what Kira’s plans might be, and cast the subject aside.
“Oh…I was with Cagalli and some of her friends. I sorta lost track of time I guess,” responded Kira. Athrun nodded his head, before taking another big bite of breakfast.
“So what time did you get home then?” asked Athrun, finally getting to the important question.
“Uh…” Kira hesitated. The question had caught him off guard, but he gracefully recovered. “Somewhere around three I think.” The latest Athrun was up was two, he let out an audible sigh of relief. This, however, piqued Kira’s suspicion. “Why?” asked Kira.
“Oh, just wondering…” replied Athrun cheerfully, “What did you guys do last night?” he asked. Kira explained they had just gone out for supper, and then went to a bar. Of course, Kira ended up as the designated driver. It was difficult for him to convince his sister and her friends to leave when he wanted to, but eventually managed to get them back to Cagalli’s place.
Athrun hummed his comprehension through a last mouthful of pancake. After thanking Kira for breakfast, Athrun went to his room, throwing his blanket onto his bed, effectively destroying the last scrap of evidence. Shortly after, he went back to the kitchen and began to do the dishes. He became aware of running water in the background; Kira was showering. Wandering thoughts, mostly concerning Kira (more correctly, Kira’s wet and naked body under the shower) took over his mind. He could feel heat welling in his groin, and was soon pressing his partial erection against the cupboards. He tried his hardest to concentrate on the dishes, hoping to distract himself enough to regain his composure. However, no matter how hard he tried, he could not shake the thoughts of his friend.
He was concentrating so hard he didn’t even hear the shower stop, or Kira enter the kitchen. “Still doing dishes?” asked Kira. Athrun jumped in surprise, and dropped the pan he was drying back into the sink. Water splashed everywhere. Kira let out a small laugh.
“Ye…ah,” his voice cracked, “I mean yeah… I didn’t start right away, so…” Athrun trailed off, hoping Kira would leave him be. He could feel warmth rising in his cheeks.
“Why are you so jumpy?” asked Kira, clearly amused by his friend. Athrun did not dignify the question with a response. He just pulled the pan out of the water and began to dry it again. Kira understood that Athrun wasn’t in a great mood, and decided to leave him alone. “Whatever,” he said, “I’m going to the store. Do you want anything?”
“Get me a pop, please,” replied Athrun. He was still rock hard. From the corner of his eye he could see Kira slip out of the kitchen, and soon after heard the door close. He let out a sigh, thinking how embarrassing it could have been if Kira had noticed he was aroused. He wondered what Kira needed from the store, but quickly dismissed the query. It really didn’t matter.
‘Time for a cold shower…’ he thought to himself as he continued to struggle to regain control. He finished the dishes quickly, and went for his shower. The shower was indeed ice cold, and was therefore also very brief. He re-emerged from the bathroom completely recovered, and more awake than he had felt in weeks. He knew he was home alone, and therefore came out with just a towel. He had redeposited his dirty clothes in the hamper. He gazed passively through Kira’s open door, noticing nothing in particular as he passed. Athrun, after dressing, picked up a book and read until he heard Kira return.
“I thought you said a few things,” teased Athrun when he saw his friend with two large armfuls of groceries.
“I said nothing of the sort,” retorted Kira, “now do you think you could give me a hand…” Athrun did so, relieving his friend of some of his burden, and placing it on the kitchen table. They talked casually as they put the stuff away, mostly about a stupid driver who nearly ran through somebody’s livingroom.
“So what are you doing tonight?” asked Athrun, wondering whether or not he would have the apartment to himself again. To be completely honest, Athrun did not really care either way at the moment. He was given an indefinite answer and was content with it.
“You want to watch a movie tonight?” asked Kira, having no other plans anyways. Athrun grunted noncommittally. Both boys were fully aware that Hollywood was in a slump. Nothing good had come out in ages. “Fine,” replied Kira.
They migrated towards the livingroom and watched TV in silence. However, the silence was short lived, and pierced by the ringing of the telephone. Kira grabbed it and answered. “Hello?” said Kira. Athrun waited patiently for the conversation to end. “Hi. What? Oh yeah I forgot. When? Where? Okay, yeah I’ll be there. Yeah I completely forgot. Thanks for reminding me. Okay bye.” Athrun shot Kira a questioning look.
“It was Cagalli,” he said, “she invited me out for supper again. I kinda forgot about my parent’s anniversary. It’s actually next week, but they’re travelling south in four days, so…” He trailed off, leaving Athrun to fill in the rest.
“So when do you leave?” asked Athrun, slightly disappointed. He thought he and Kira were going to be able to do something that night.
“Soon, if I want to make it on time! It’s way at the other end of the city and the reservation is for six…” Athrun looked at the clock, and rolled his eyes when he realized Kira had well over four hours to get there. ‘Typical Kira,’ he thought to himself. He continued to watch TV while Kira buzzed in the background. Within an hour and a half Kira had said goodbye and was out the door.
‘Well I guess I’m not getting supper made for me tonight,’ he joked to himself as he made his way to the kitchen. He managed to rummage up a foolproof meal: salad. He ate in front of the TV, once again feeling extremely guilty for wasting so much time on the “stupid thing”. He was trying to decide how he should invest the rest of the night, when he realized that he had an essay due, which he could get started.
He retrieved his laptop from his room, and began to type. He switched the TV over to a soccer game. He enjoyed the white noise and the ability to watch the occasional replay. He was halfway through the third page of his essay on “An in depth analysis of the structure of socialism and its various form” when the low battery light began to blink. Athrun was aware that he was making slow progress, but there was absolutely no way the batteries could already be dead. He quickly saved his files to a disk, and went to retrieve the power cord. His search ended in vain, and he watched his computer give one last beep before dying. “Damn,” he said disappointedly.
Grudgingly, Athrun began to think of what else he could do, and what truly needed to be done. However, he soon found himself mesmerized by the soccer game, and he decided he would wait for Kira to get home. He was curious to see how his friend faired. Athrun was sure Kira had struggled in looking for an impromptu gift for his parents. He was also fully aware that Kira’s relationship with his parents was a little rocky at the moment, and he hoped for his friend that everything was going well. The solution came to Athrun suddenly while thinking about Kira. ‘Kira has a computer, I could just borrow that!’ he thought, while secretly praising himself for having the foresight to save his files to disk instead of the hard drive.
He retrieved the laptop, and thought he would be away in no time. He stumbled, however, when the computer asked for a password. He paused for a moment, trying the think what the password may be. He tried three unsuccessfully, and then a revelation came to him. “Ah!” he exclaimed, and hoped for a little luck. He typed “password” into the required field. He was surprised by his friend’s laziness when the computer began to load. ‘One in five…’ he thought to himself proudly. Truthfully, Athrun had never been in Kira’s computer before, and hoped Kira wouldn’t be upset with his obtrusiveness. Athrun was a slightly surprised with Kira’s choice of background. It was the picture of them from prep school; the same one that Athrun had in his room.
Athrun inserted the disk and resumed his work. The game had ended a short while ago and now highlights were being shown. Deciding he would only work for another hour, Athrun worked quickly. At the end of the hour he was nearly halfway complete, and rather pleased with his progress. He saved the data to the disk. He decided he wanted to do some research before packing up, and was scanning through the multitude of shortcuts present. He came across a folder called “pictures”. His curiosity was piqued, but he decided it was none of his business. He wanted to respect Kira’s privacy as much as possible. After he finished his research he found himself heedlessly searching the web without any particular purpose. When he was finally done, the folder caught his eye again. This time, however, curiosity won.
'They're just pictures,' thought Athrun, 'I'm sure Kira would show them to me anyways...' He continued to reason with his bored and restless mind until he convinced himself Kira's permission was unnecessary. Besides, what could happen...
Athrun was shocked by the contents of the folder. There were files of poetry concerning him, scans of drawings, and pictures of them together. It was like a shrine dedicated to their non-existent relationship. One that Athrun had always dreamed of having with Kira. He opened the last, most recent folder in the file. He was shocked by the contents. It contained three photos. The first was of him lying on the couch, a sheet covering everything just below the waist. There was still cum on his chest. The second was a shot of him lying on his stomach, his bare ass exposed and one leg hanging of the edge. And the final picture was a full frontal shot, revealing all. He realized immediately they were taken that very morning.
Blood rushed to Athrun’s cheeks, partially in what could be described as anger, but mostly in humiliation for being caught. He could not decide what he should do about this. Millions of scenarios, problems, and possible solutions were flying through his head. Not one of them seemed remotely plausible.
His string of thoughts was broken by a key turning in the lock…
