Chapter 1 part one- Heartbreak
“Where are you going?”
Duo cursed as he heard the voice come from the kitchen. He was so close to the door this time. Lately Heero’s been asking him where, when, and why, every time he even thought about going out. The only thing he didn’t ask was with whom, Heero knows full well who Duo is spending so much time with. Duo decided to answer the question knowing his response would only bring more. “To the fair.”
Heero frowned, -I asked Duo to go to the fair with me when it opened today. It doesn’t seem like he’s taking me with him.- His heart cracked a little.” Do you know when you’re going to be back?”
“No.” Duo didn’t want to come back.
“Do you think you can get back before dinner?” Heero worried. He had a special dinner planned for today.
“Maybe.”
Heero frowned slightly “Can you please come home for dinner?”
“I said maybe!” Duo snapped annoyed.
“He’s not your lover Duo,” Heero finally got to the true issue. “You shouldn’t spend so much time with him.”
“The one I don’t want to spend time with is you!” Duo saw Heero’s expression before he stormed out of the flat.
Heero blanched at Duo’s words. “Duo... What about me?...” He asked the empty flat. “What about me?”

At the fair Duo was having the time of his life. Going around like he hadn’t a care in the world helped him forget Heero’s face when he told him he didn’t want to spend time with him. And so it went all day Duo being careless to forget. To get lost in something other than his issues and... His guilt...

Heero checked the clock waiting for Duo to get home so he could surprise him with the food and afterwards they can make up. He planned it perfectly. Since he and Duo had been on the edge lately he figured it would be nice of him to try and make-up this time. Duo was usually the one who puts out most of the effort to apologize after a fight so Heero decided it was time for him to take the initiative. Duo’s earlier words came back to haunt him. –Duo never lies so maybe he really doesn’t want to spend time with me. Who would want to spend time with me, ne?- Heart cracking slightly at the thought Heero glanced at the clock and he could only hope Duo still wants him. Smile on his face remembering the times past when Duo loved to spend time with him.
//Flashback//
"Heeeerooo!" Duo whined again as Heero kept ignoring him in favor of his laptop. "Heero how long are you going to ignore me?" When he got no response to that an idea came to mind. "Hee-chan," he practically purred. Tossing a seductive look in Heero's direction Duo bit his bottom lip.
"Hn..." Heero grunted. After getting past the initial shock he went back to ignoring Duo.
-Yes! A response!- He plastered himself on Heero's back kissing his neck. "Come on Hee-koi, I just want some attention."
Heero snorted, not at all skeptical of Duo's need for complete attention.
"I'm sure I have a better idea about how to spend today other that typing up mission reports." Duo murmured against Heero’s neck, adding a lick and a tiny nibble to his kisses down the side of Heero's neck. Finding the sensitive spot on Heero's neck Duo placed a flurry of kisses along it and blew seductively before sucking lightly.
"Hm..." Heero said tilting his head to give Duo better access.
"Yup." Duo said pausing from his ministrations to sit in Heero's lap. "Much better ideas."
-This is definitely better than typing up mission reports.- Was the last thing running through Heero's mind before he got lost in the storm which is Duo.
//End Flashback//
Looking at the clock again he saw only five minutes have passed he continued to sit at the table slight smile gracing his face and eyes.
One hour and thirty minutes later the slight smile faltered and the crack in his heart got wider.
Three hours later still sitting waiting for Duo to get home the crack became a fissure.
When it reached 11:30 p.m. the faint hope lighting his cobalt blue eyes disappeared. The burning blue became dull, his shoulders slumped and his own heart broke.

12:30 Duo walked in exhausted from his day at the fair. Although he hadn’t planned to he did a lot of heavy thinking, and he came to a conclusion. He just needed to tell Heero of his decision. Walking into the flat he closed and locked the door behind him. Looking around he frowned slightly, -Where’s Heero?- he thought. –Heero was usually up waiting for him by the time he got home no matter how late he came in.- Remembering the fit about dinner yesterday morning he entered the kitchen and found Heero slumped over the table. His tear-stained face looked pale in the moonlight. Untouched food lay on their plates on the table. A card rested clipped on a balloon in the middle of the table where a cold apple pie rested. On the envelope was his name written in a neat bold font.
Stepping to the table he opened the card and stared in surprised shock. ‘Happy anniversary!’ it exclaimed. –I totally forgot! Yesterday marked the fourth year Heero and I have been together.- He stared guiltily at Heero’s tear-stained face.
“Heero…” He tapped Heero lightly on the shoulder.
“Mmm,… Duo?” Heero sat up groggily. “You came back?…” He dragged his hands across his eyes looking hopefully up at Duo.
“Yeah… Heero…” Duo looked down. –Christ I never thought this would be so hard.- “I think we should start seeing other people.” Duo blurted out.
