(Chapter two) The new captain

"Chang, I want you to meet the new captain and commander, Trieze Khushrenada and Milliardo Peacecraft. This is Lt. Trowa Barton. Now, I have some meetings I have to get to so I will leave them in your capable hands."

"You said new captain?"

"Yes, Chang, I did." Chief Une knew why Lt. Commander Chang was surprised. He thought he was going to get the position. She had her reasons for not giving him the promotion.

Trowa noticed a total change in Chang's demeanor at that answer. If he did not know any better, he would have sworn that Chang thought he was going to get the position. Lt. Commander Chang looked like he was about to argue.

//I cannot believe I worked all those years. I am the one that has been doing all the work for the past five years. I have all the education I need for the promotion, I went through all the training, I have all the points, and yet she still denies me and picks someone that does not even work in this station.// Wufei thought angrily to himself.

"Follow me," Wufei orders in a clipped tone. Not caring if they notice his anger or not. As he walks to his office, soon to be theirs, he thinks to himself how unfair this situation is. //I am not the type to let my emotions show. I usually go work out if I need to blow off some steam, but why does she think I have been working so hard these past five years. I have always wanted to be in the preventers. It has always been my dream. I never wanted anything else. Being captain is also a dream of mine.

It took a lot of patience and meditating to get the men to trust me. I did all the work of a captain, I am only a Lt., and now she tells me I was not even good enough.

Trieze Khushrenada and Milliardo Peacecraft are among two of the greatest men in the preventers today. It is an honor to serve under them, but not here. I cannot be happy about this, but I have to try.//

Lieutenant Chang leads them down the hall towards their new office. It was not too big but it also was not small either. There are two desks in the office with computers sitting atop them. Captain Khushrenada sits at one desk while commander Peacecraft sits at the other. There is a soft knock at the door before it slowly opens to reveal another Asian man.

Heero notices two things, one there is a man at Wufei's desk and two his husband does not seem happy at all. There was a definite connection between the two.

"Sorry I'm late."

"It's alright, I'm glad you’re here now. Let me introduce you." Wufei walks over to the desk that Commander Peacecraft in sitting behind and faces his husband.

"This is Commander Milliardo Peacecraft. Over there is Captain Trieze Khushrenada." A confused expression appears on Heero's face. Wufei knew what he was thinking. He also figured he would be the new captain, but he was wrong.

"Captain?" Heero asks.

"Yes, captain. Amazing how things turn out."

"Yes amazing."

"Let me get them started and I'll be with you in a sec ok?"

"That’s fine."

"Oh and that’s Lieutenant Trowa Barton." Wufei says with no excitement. Trowa's eyebrows go up a notch at Wufei's attitude. Captain Khushrenada and Commander Peacecraft look at each other in confusion. They cannot imagine what could be wrong with Lt. Chang. Wufei gets them set up on the computers and started on the paperwork; he excuses himself, and takes Heero out of the office so that they can talk privately.


"I thought you were going to be promoted to captain. What happened Wufei?"

"I didn't know about them until I came in this morning. That is what the meeting was about."

"You mean after all you did for this station over the past five years, she denies you and gets someone else."

"Yeah. God; I am pissed. I do not know what to do Heero. I worked my ass off for this and to have it taken away. I have heard of these three. Their good agents."

"But didn’t Une promise you that position?"

"Yes she did."

"Khushrenada." Heero says thinking. He knew that name from somewhere. However, he could not think of it now.

"What about him?" Wufei asked him.

"There is something I heard about him that is important but for the life of me I can't remember what it was." Just then two of the female secretaries came walking by talking.

"So that cute brother of yours is coming?" Shirley asked Angel.

"That’s it." Heero looks around to make sure no one was listening. "Now I remember Khushrenada is Chief Une's brother. I heard from Johnson and McNamara. She hired her brother. Is not that against the rules to hire family?

"Yes it is. I have no idea what to do Heero. There is no way he did not know where he was being transferred. The station you are being transferred too you have to talk to the chief of that station too to get permission to get that transfer, so he has to have known and he came anyway. I cannot believe she did this. What she did; what they all did, minus Lt. Barton, is dishonorable. Well I will not make it easy for them. Let's go back in."

"He seemed upset Captain Khushrenada."

"Yes he certainly did. I wonder if he didn't know that I was coming."


"His chief would have told him wouldn't she have?" Trowa scrutinized them closely. "He did not know about you coming here did he? Chief Une did not tell him. Why would she not tell him about something this important? He thought he was going to get the position and she turned him down and gave it to you. So wonder he's angry."

"Wufei lets stay calm until we get home tonight ok? Then we can sit and talk and come to a decision together."

"You're always my voice of reason Heero. Do not know what I would do without you. I'll stay calm and get through the day and do what I have to too help them and go from there." So the two of them go back inside. The paperwork is done but the captain and commander or still at the computers. They are not done yet. What were they doing talking on the phone? This is going to be a long day.

"Are either one of you almost done yet? Barton has to get his info into the system and we still have some other things to accomplish before the day is over. If you are having problems I can help you."

"Well Lt., if we were having problems we couldn't ask you because you weren’t here for us to ask."
Captain Khushrenada stated.

"Well captain" he sneered, "If you were in that much trouble and really needed my help you would have gotten up and came to the door, opened it; and asked me to come in and help you, but sense you did not I gather you had no problems and should at least be almost done if not already done."

"If you were professional you would have stayed inside the office and waited to make sure everything went ok."


"If you had any honor captain Khushrenada you wouldn't be here in the first place." Wufei yelled.

"Now you hold on just a damn minute," captain Khushrenada yell back as he got up and went around facing Wufei. "How have I dishonored you, I just met you."

"What has that to do with anything? You think just because we just met that makes you an honorable person?"

"You took a position you know you were not supposed to accept. You are not allowed to work with family. Chief Une is your sister. How do you explain that? When I put in for the Captain's position here, she told me I should not worry that I was a shoe in. Shoe in my ass."

"But," Captain Khushrenada began to say

"But what, what could you possible say that could make me feel better. In order to be transferred you have to speak to the chief personally to get permission, its one of the rules; so I know you knew that your sister is the chief here, so what possible explanation could you have for disobeying a major rule." Wufei stood there glaring at captain Khushrenada; waiting for his answer.

"I don't have an explanation. Now sit down and stop being so childish. This behavior is not very professional."

Wufei was hot with anger. His whole body shook with rage. Even Heero; the calmer of the two was shaking with rage. Heero had to grab on to Wufei's arm to keep him from attacking captain Khushrenada.
I cannot believe Chief Une would do this to Wufei. I know it may seem petty to some but Wufei earned that position and the position should be his. Wufei has worked hard to earn the respect of his men. It was hard for him because of his age, but he managed it anyhow.
Heero watched Wufei take of his badge; his gun; and his nametag and threw it on the ground at Captain Khushrenada's feet.

"I quit. I guess honor means nothing to you." they all watch him turn around and leave. This is not good, not good at all.

"He isn't really quitting is he?" Captain Khushrenada turned to Heero and asked him.

"Yes he is. I hope you are happy. Let me give you a little advice before I go after my husband, if you do not want to lose many of the men in this station I advise you to do what ever you can to get Wufei back. Because when they find out that he has quit it will only be a matter of time until they all quit also."

"That is ridicules, why would they all quit over one man. Why is he so important to them?"

"Because he has been there for them and bled for them. He has earned their trust and taken bullets for more than one of them. He has stayed up nights working when Une herself has clocked out and went home. He has done more for this station than your sister has. The men have more respect for him than she can ever dream of receiving. He has earned that position and to have it taken away and given to someone who doesn’t know anything about this station, yeah he has a right to be mad."

"I think it is time we had a talk with our dear chief."

"Maybe you are right. Let us go. You also Lt." So the four of them go to Une's office to try to get Wufei back and maybe fix this mess.
