Through Heaven and Hell

Part Two: Shocking Discoveries

Chapter One

Catherine walked through the hallway of the home she now shared with her brother, Trowa. It had been months since Relena had broke it off with him. He hadn’t gotten himself a new place, hadn’t even looked.

Slowly, she opened the door to his room, only enough to look in. She saw him sitting there on his bed, just staring at the floor. Silent tears fell from his eyes. Catherine wished she could help him, wished she could take some of the pain away.

Even though it had happened months ago, Trowa was no better. In fact, he was worse. He never did anything and Catherine had to basically force him to eat. He was just a shell of the person he used to be. It broke her heart to see him in so much pain.

Catherine closed the door, and walked back to her own room. She hated what Relena had done to him. What possible reason could she have had for breaking his heart?

Chapter Two

Relena sat at her desk, shuffling through her mail. Zechs sat across from her, a worried expression on his face. They were no longer in her home, instead at a safe house, where Zechs thought Relena could be better protected.

Relena’s heart was empty, thinking of Trowa. He had been everything to her, and she had destroyed him. Sure, she had her reasons. That lunatic that was sending her letters, had threatened Trowa. She couldn’t let him get hurt, no matter what it cost her.

An envelope caught her attention, and she opened it quickly. It was from the crazy bastard that had ruined her life. “You have been defiled by that nameless bastard. Soon you will be rid of his filth.”

She didn’t cry, wasn’t scared anymore. She felt numb in her body, in her soul. Without Trowa she wasn’t really alive anymore. She handed the letter to Zechs. “Here’s another one.” She said, just as plainly as if she talktalking about the weather.

Relena stood, placing her hands over her belly, which had swelled quite a bit. She looked down at herself, happy in the knowledge that she at least had something of Trowa in her life. She was carrying his baby. Relena smiled slightly. But the smile faded, knowing that Trowa would probably never meet him or her. He had to stay away from Relena. And that meant never seeing his own child.

“I’m tired. I think I’ll go to bed now.” She said before turning to walk away. She didn’t wait to hear if Zechs had anything to say to her, wouldn’t have cared anyway.

As she walked back to her room, she thought about the past few months. They had seemed so empty without Trowa. But her days were filled with questions from Zechs. He wanted to know if she had any idea of who could be sending her the letters. She knew, and her guilt over those days so long ago still plagued her dreams.

But she hadn’t told Zechs. How could she? If he knew about what had happened, everything between them would change. He would no longer see her as his perfect little sister. She would be something disgusting and ugly to him. She was sure that if he had found out what she had done, he would hate her, just like Trowa would if he ever found out.

Relena pushed the thoughts away, not wanting to remember. She walked into her bedroom and laid down on her bed, not even bothering to change out of her clothes. Soon she drifted off into a fitful sleep, filled with dreams of Trowa in her arms.

When she awoke, something seemed wrong. She couldn’t place her finger on it, but something just wasn’t right. She opened her eyes and with some difficulty, pulled herself into a sitting position.

Her eyes widened in shock and fear when she saw her room. There were literally hundreds of flowers. A message was written on her wall and she hoped that the red substance was paint. “Next time I’ll take you with me when I leave.”

“Zechs?!” She screamed out at the top of her lungs. “Zechs?!”

Relena got out of bed and hastily made her way to the door, but before she could get to it, a massive pain struck her. She clutched her stomach, knowing just what was happening. “Oh God, not now. It’s too soon.” She mumbled to herself, then she felt the wetness between her legs. Her water had broken.

Zechs threw the door open and rushed to her side. “Relena are you okay?” He asked, as she began to fall to the floor. He caught her in his arms.

She had begun her breathing exercises and spoke between breaths. “The baby. It’s coming.” Then another contraction hit and she screamed out.

“But it’s not due for another two months.” Zechs replied, wrapping his arm around her and helping her up.

“Tell that to the baby. It’s coming now.” She said through clenched teeth.

Chapter Three

Relena was frantic. Her mind was a blur of fear and worry. The baby was coming too soon.

Zechs stayed by her side the entire time, never letting go of her hand. And soon she gave birth to a baby boy. Relena’s heart sank when she heard he needed to be put in an incubator. She started panicking, thinking that he would die. The doctors sedated her, telling her that she had to calm down. But how could she be calm when her baby couldn’t survive outside of an incubator?

When she woke up, Zechs was sitting in a chair beside her hospital bed. “You should tell Trowa.” He said, seeing that she was awake.

“I can’t. He’ll want to be around me again. I won’t put him in danger.” She said, her eyes filling with tears.

“But he deserves to know that he’s a father.”

“No.” She said quickly. She had made up her mind long ago. “If Trowa knew, he’d never leave my side again. And that would put him in danger.”

Zechs stood and approached her. “We’ve been lucky with the press so far. But once the press finds out about this, they will announce it to the world. He’ll find out.”

“But I won’t be the one telling him. Maybe he’ll think that I found someone knew after he left.” She turned away from him, a stray tear falling from her eye.

She felt Zechs’s hand on her shoulder. “I understand.” He said.

Relena turned back to him. “No, you can’t possibly understand.” She replied calmly.

A thought occurred to her, and she grabbed Zechs’s arm. “Promise me something.” She demanded.

“Anything.” He replied.

“If something happens to me, will you make sure that Trowa takes care of our son, no matter how much he hates me?”

“Of course.” He replied.

“If you don’t mind, I want to be alone for a while.” Relena said, taking her hand from his arm. She smiled, trying to keep Zechs from suspecting anything. There was something she had to do, something she had to be alone for.

Zechs stood and walked to the door. “I’ll come back in an hour.” He said, just before leaving.

Once he was gone, Relena threw the blankets off of her. She pulled out her IV and sat up, dangling her legs over the edge of her bed.

She stood on shaky legs, and walked to the window. She kept her hands on her bed as she walked around it, knowing that she didn’t have enough strength to walk on her own just yet.

Relena opened the window and looked out. Good, she thought, she was on the first floor. That would make it so much easier. She turned and walked to a closet, finding it easier to walk with every passing moment.

She pulled her clothes out of the closet and put them on, not really caring how she looked at the moment. Then she walked back to the window. Relena knew she had to leave a message, had to leave something for Zechs to find.

She glanced down at her hand and saw the blood spilling from where her IV had once been. There really was no other option, it wasn’t like she had a pen. She dipped her finger in sma small amount of blood and began to leave a message on the wall. It was just a name, but she knew Zechs would try to find out who it was.

With her message left, she had nothing left to do. She climbed out of the window and walked away. Relena didn’t look back, knowing that if she did, she would never be able to go through with this. She had to face her fears, had to face that bastard that was ruining her life. And she had a good idea as to where he was.

Chapter Four

Trowa sat across the table from Catherine, picking at the food she had made. He wasn’t really hungry, hadn’t been since Relena had crushed his heart. But he ate the food anyway, not wanting Catherine to force him again. She was stronger than she looked, a fact he had found out the hard way.

There was a knock at the door and Trowa jumped up. He walked to the door, thinking that at least he didn’t have to eat if he was answering the door. To his surprise he saw Zechs standing there.

“What do you want?” He asked, hoping the other man didn’t see the dark circles under his eyes, his tear streaked face.

“It’s about Relena.” He replied, stepping into the house, without an invitation.

“What do I care? Get out.” He said, gesturing to the door he was still holding open.

“She’s disappeared.” Zechs replied.

Trowa closed the door. “W-what?” He stammered, not believing his ears.

“I believe you should sit. There is something I have to tell you.” Zechs avoided looking at him, instead kept his eyes staring at the floor in front of him.

Trowa sat in a nearby chair. Catherine came up beside him and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. “What do you have to tell me?” Trowa asked.

“Relena just gave birth. You’re a father.” He said.

Trowa felt like he had just been hit by a brick wall. He couldn’t speak, could barely breathe. Thankfully, Catherine didn’t seem to have that problem. “What?” She nearly shouted. “Then why did she break it off with him?”

“She was trying to protect him.” Zechs said.

“From what?” Trowa asked.

“She’s been receiving threatening letters for a while now. A month before she broke it off with you, she got the first one.” Zechs sighed. “Your life was threatened in several, and then while you were here visiting Catherine, a bullet was fired.”

“Did she get hurt?” Trowa asked.

“No. I was the one that was shot. But a video message came soon after and it demanded that she break up with you, or the next time it would be you instead of me, and that he wouldn’t miss.”

“she she did it all to protect me?” He asked, not really talking to anyone. He was relieved, to know that she did still love him. “And I'm a father?” He looked up to Zechs.

“Yes. You have a son. But, there’s a problem.” Zechs replied.

“There’s something wrong with my son?” He asked, fear spreading throughout his body. The words sounding strange coming from his mouth. He never thought he’d ever be a father.

“Relena went into labor from the shock of seeing that her stalker had been in her room. Your son was born two months premature and has to stay in an incubator. The doctor’s aren’t sure that he’ll survive.”

“And Relena? You said she has disappeared?” Trowa asked, wondering what had happened.

Zechs turned away, looking toward the door. “I blame myself. If I had stayed in the room with her, she never would have left.”

“She left?” Catherine exclaimed.

“Yes. She escaped through a window. She left this.” Zechs turned back, pulling something from his pocket. Trowa saw that it was a picture.

He looked at the picture, seeing that words had been written on a wall. He read them out loud, “Jeffery Peterson.” He looked up from the photo in his hands. “Who’s Jeffery Peterson?”

“All I was able to find out about him was his address.” He handed another paper to Trowa. It was an address. “He wasn’t home when I went the I b I believe he is the one that is stalking Relena. And if he’s not, then he knows who is.”

Chapter Five

Trowa stood in the hospital. He couldn’t believe his eyes, couldn’t believe what he saw in front of him.

A child, his son lay in an incubator, struggling to stay alive. A plastic tube was stuck down his at, at, keeping him breathing. Trowa couldn’t believe how tiny the baby was. He had seen children before, but never one so small.

Catherine came up beside him, wrapping her arm around his shoulder. “I’m sure he’ll make it.” She said, trying to offer him some comfort.

But Trowa’s mind was on other things. He couldn’t help but think of Relena. Why would she just run off like that and leave her baby? He could only hope that she wasn’t doing something stupid.

In the morning he and Zechs were going to see Jeffrey Peterson. Then maybe they would get some answers. They would find out who was bothering Relena. And Trowa would make sure that whoever it was would never bother Relena or anyone else again.

To Be Continued . . .

Hope you liked this part. I believe the next part will be the last.
