{On the outside looking in}

Duo stood silently in the doorway watching Heero work on his laptop. With a soft sigh he turned and walked out the door.

{I find myself
In the darkness again }

He walked silently into the dark forest surrounding their current safe house. He wasn't sure how long he could handle being alone in the small cottage with Heero. Already, Heero refused to even acknowledge his existence anymore.

{You keep shoving me away }

Walking with his head down and his hands in his pockets, Duo remembered all the little things he had done, trying desperately to get Heero's attention away from his laptop. And how every time Heero had either ignored him, or yelled at him for doing something.

{Let me into your light }

Duo turned back to stare at the soft light filtering through the trees. The light came from the small bedroom where Heero was still working. More than anything else, he wished he was there right now.

{Let me into your life }

But he knew that even if he went back, Heero would still ignore him. He wanted...he wanted.... "I want to tell Heero I love him," he whispered softly into the still forest. He shook his head. "Heero would probably go into shock, then never want anything to do with me."

{I'm the best one for you}

He laughed bitterly to himself before turning to head deeper into the woods. He knew that he could help Heero, hell, he might even be the one person Heero needed most in this world.

{But you keep me on
The outside looking in }

But he ted ted seriously if *Heero* would ever realize that. "He'll keep pushing me away," Duo mumbled.

{How many times
Must I throw myself at you }

He considered going back to the cottage and get roaring drunk, but turned bright crimson as he remembered what had happened the last time he thought that was a good idea. He didn't remember all that happened, but he did remember that at some point he had wound up on Heero's lap kissing him. Heero had sat there stunned for a long moment before abruptly standing and dumping him on the floor.

{Before you see the truth

Still, he considered, it might not be that bad of an idea. Especially, if he could remain conscious long enough to tell Heero he loved him.

{Let me into your light }
He sighed and turned back toward the cottage. Maybe, just maybe he could talk to Heero tonight.

And maybe, Heero would really listen.

{I'm the best one for you }

Maybe...Heero would say...

The outside looking in }

Duo shook his head and laughed bitterly. There was no way Heero could love him. For one thing, he was another guy. For another, Heero didn't even seem to like him.

{Let me in! }

He walked silently into the cottage and ended up in the doorway to Heero's room again. Please... his heart silently begged.

{I'm the one you need
Can't you see? }

Please...for once really listen to me. Let me help you...

{Let me into your light }

"Heero..." he whispered softly.

{Let me into your life }

He took a hesitant step forward.

{I'm the best one for you }

"Heero...." he repeated louder, stepping closer.

{But you keep me on
The outside looking in}

Heero looked up exasperated. "What do you want?" he demanded.

{Let me in!}

Duo hesitated, wanting desperately to say anything but what he came to say.

{I can heal your pain}

Heero's hard eyes bore into him.

{I'm the best one for you}

"I've been doing a lot of thinking," Duo began.

"And?" Heero snapped.

{Let me into your light}

"There's something I have to tell you," Duo went on, slowly gaining confidence. Heero hadn't hit him yet at least. Heero glared at him impatiently.

{Let me into your life}

Duo took a deep breath and got ready to run in case Heero went after him.

{I'm the best one for you}

"I love you," Duo suddenly blurted.

{But you keep me on
The outside looking in}

Heero sat, staring at him in silent shock.

{Please...}

Duo cringed waited for Heero to hit him.

Heero stood and took one slow step toward Duo, then another.
