Poisoning

Well here we go. I kind of feel bad inflicting harm on someone else but I’ll just have to deal.

From Bad to Worse

Kai was pacing up and down the hall of the hospital the look on his face a cross between worry and anger.
Kenny, Max and Tyson sat on a row of hospital seats and were watching Kai pace back and forth a look of worry on their faces. Max held the box with the rose in it.
Rei was currently being looked at by one of the hospital doctors.
“You’re going to wear a groove in the floor if yoep tep that up,” Tyson said to Kai.
“Leave him be Tyson,” Max said putting a hand on Tyson’s shoulder then looking at Kai he said, “He’ll be fine Kai. Just wait and see.”
Just then the door to the examination room opened and Rei walked out followed by the doctor.
The doctor walked up to Kai and said, “Apart from a high temperature and the fact that he fainted I could not find anything wrong with him. He must just be overworked, take him home, allow him to rest and he should be back to normal in no time.”
“Thanks doc,” Rei said softly.
Kai nodded to the doctor and looked at Rei worriedly.
As Rei took a step forward he faltered and almost fell but Kai caught him.
Rei looked at Kai and gave him a small smile.
Kai put one of his arms under Rei’s knees and kept the other behind Rei’s back and lifted him up. Rei rested his head on Kai’s shoulder and sighed.
Kai carried Rei out of the hospital and stopped in front of a taxi that was sitting there.
Kenny opened the door to the back seat and Kai hopped in cradling a now sleeping Rei in his lap.
Kenny and Max ran around he ohe other side and climbed into the backseat while Tyson climbed into the front.
“Where to?” the taxi driver asked.
“Park Royal Hotel please,” Tyson said to the driver.
The taxi pulled away from the curb and headed towards the hotel.

When they arrived at the hotel Tyson paid the driver while Kenny and Max jumped out.
While Kenny opened the door for Kai, Max ran ahead to get the elevator so it was waiting for them.
Kai hopped out carrying Rei carefully.
Entering the hotel Kai walked over to the waiting elevator and entered the car followed by Kenny and Tyson.
Max pushed the button for their floor and the doors closed.
The doors opened again when they reached their floor and they headed down the hall to Kai and Rei’s room.
“Where’s your key?” Max asked.
“In my back pocket,” Kai said.
Max reached into Kai’s back pocket and produced the keys to the room.
Max opened the door and Kai went in. He walked over to Rei’s bed and put Rei down on it.
Rei stirred and opened one eye.
“Where am I?” Rei asked drowsily.
“We’re back at the hotel,” Tyson said walking over to the bed.
Rei nodded and closed his eye, falling back asleep.
“Are you going to be okay looking after him or do you need our help?” Max asked Kai who was wetting a hand towel in the bathroom.
“I’ll be fine,” Kai said wringing out the excess water.
Max nodded, placing the box with the rose in it on the side table by the door, with that he, Kennd Tnd Tyson left shutting the door behind him not locking it.
Kai walked over and put the damp towel on Rei’s forehead before pulling the big armchair over to the side of Rei’s bed and sitting in it.

^He’s doing okay at the moment Dranzer but I’m damn sure he’s going to get worse. ^

^It was a red rose Dranzer. I know it sounds completely ludicrous but I just feel it. I damn well hope I’m just getting upset over nothing. For Rei’s sake. ^
@I’ve been talking to Drigger and he’s really worried. @

@That Rei started to feel sick just before his battle with Lee but apparently Rei didn’t want to tell you because he knew you’d pull him out and he didn’t want to disappoint you. @
^Fool. A loveable fool, but still a fool. ^
@I must go Drigger needs to speak with me. Rei will be fine Kai don’t worry. @

Kai looked at Rei whs tos tossing slightly in his sleep.

‘God why didn’t I see that you were sick before I sent you to battle Lee. I damn well shouldn’t have let you smell that cursed flower. It’s all my fault that you’re sick. I’m never going to forgive myself.’

Kai sighed and looked at the box with the rose in it and then back at Rei.
Kai gasped as he saw how pale and washed out Rei’s skin had become.
Kai got up and went and kneeled at the side of the bed.
Removing the towel and placing a hand on Rei’s forehead he felt that Rei’s temperature had just gotten higher not lower.
The touch to his forehead seemed to hurt Rei as he sat up quickly with a small cry and then started to panic when he couldn’t open his eyes.
Kai grabbed hold of Rei’s flailing arms.
“Shhh Rei. I’m here. Calm down,” Kai said getting up and sitting on the side of the bed he pulled Rei into his lap and rocked Rei gently.
“I can’t open my eyes Kai. Please help me,” Rei said starting to cry.
“It’s okay. Take a deep breath and stop crying. You’ll be okay I promise,” Kai said brushing Rei’s fringe back.
“Please don’t leave me Kai,” Rei whispered giving a little sob.
“I promise I’m not going anywhere,” Kai said then he pounded on the wall behind him, which separated his and Rei’s room from, Kenny, Max and Tyson’s.
Rei jumped in fright and buried his face into Kai’s neck.
Kai rocked Rei slowly as he stroked his hair.
Max suddenly burst into the room followed by Kenny and Tyson.
“What’s wrong?” Max asked running over to the bed.
“Call an ambulance he’s getting worse,” Kai said firmly.
Max nodded and ran to the phone and called for an ambulance.
Max hung up the phone and came back over to the bed where Kenny and Tyson were crowding around Rei worriedly.
“They said they’ll meet us in the lobby in five minutes,” Max said placing a hand on Rei’s arm causing the boy to whimper.
“Max, Tyson and I will wait here and try to get in contact with Mr. Dickensen,” Kenny said as Kai stood up with Rei in his arms, “We’ll meet you at the hospital later.”
“I’ll walk you down to the lobby,” Tyson said.
Kai went over to the door and Tyson opened it for him.
They waited for what seemed like hours for the elevator to come.
Getting in Tyson pushed the button for the ground floor.
“Kai I feel sick in my stomach,” Rei whispered when they were half way down then Rei’s body went completely limp and his muscles started to twitch.
“Oh god Rei,” Kai said holding the boy close to him.
Tyson put his hand on Kai’s shoulder and said, “He’ll be fine as soon as he gets to a hospital. They’ll give him some drugs and he’ll be cheery old Rei again.”
They got to the lobby just as the ambulance was arriving.
“Keep us informed,” Tyson said as Kai climbed into the ambulance with Rei.
“I will,” Kai assured.
The doors closed and Rei was placed on the bed in the ambulance.
The trip to the hospital was short but even in that short time Rei got worse.
His muscle twitches became more violent and he started to shiver.
When they arrived, Rei was rushed into emergency again.
He saw a different doctor upon Kai’s request.
Dr. Carson Candide examined Rei quickly discovering that Rei’s heartbeat was erratically uneven he set about admitting Rei to a special wing.
While Dr. Candide was doing this Kai was standing by Rei’s bedside stroking his hair.
As Dr. Candide entered the room with the order to have Rei admitted Rei sat up and vomited.
A nurse gave Rei a special container to vomit in. Kai rubbed Rei’s back while he vomited.
When Rei stopped vomiting he became cold and senseless almost to the state of unconsciousness
“Let’s get this guy into a more suitable room,” Dr. Candide said going and standing behind Rei’s bed.
Kai walked beside Rei’s bed as he was wheeled to the room that had been set up for him.
Dr. Candide was called away for a few moments.
Kai looked at Rei and let a tear slip down his cheek when he went to wipe it away he smudged the blue triangles painted on his face.
Dr. Candide came back in with a clipboard under his arm.
“st sst spoke over the phone with a Mr. Dickensen. He said that I was to spare no expense to see that Rei gets healthy again. I’m going to put a call in to a specialist pediatrician named Dr. Hope Romanova. She’ll take Rei’s case from there. I suggest you go clean up while Rei is looked after by the nurse,” Dr. Candide said and left.
A nurse came in and ushered Kai out the door.
Kai wandedowndown to a bathroom and entered it.
Looking at himself in the mirror he saw that the triangles were smudged.
Wetting a paper hand towel he washed them off.

Meanwhile Dr. Candide was on the phone with Dr. Romanova.
“His symptoms are unusual. There is no logical reason for such a rapid disintegration of his health,” Dr. Candide said to Dr. Romanova.
“Okay tell me his symptoms,” Dr. Romanova said and Dr. Candide could hear paper being rustled and the clanking as a pen was pulled from its holder.
“He’s been vomiting, he’s been having uncontrolled and severe muscle twitches and his body will go limp unless he’s vomiting also hn’t n’t open his eyes. At the moment his temperature is high, his heartbeat is uneven, he is cold and senseless almost to the point of unconsciousness,” Dr. Candide said listing all Rei’s symptoms, “Also his skin has a white, washed out appearance.”
“Okay I’ll have the Health Department fly me in ain a chopper meanwhile I want a blood test done to check for diabetes. Until then try and keep his fluids up,” Dr. Romanova said.
“We’ll see you soon,” Dr. Candide said, “The bloost rst results will be waiting for you when you arrive.”
“Bye,” Dr. Romanova said hanging up the phone.
Dr. Candide hung up the phone and left his office.
On his way to Rei’s room he gathered the equipment he needed and placed them on a small trolley which he towed into the room.

Kai had just sat down in a chair next to Rei’s bed when Dr. Candide entered pulling a small metal trolley.
Kai watched as the doctor extracted some blood and inserted a drip into Rei’s arm.
“ an an eye on him. If he gets any worse call for the nurse, Dr. Romanova is on her way and I’m personally doing the blood tests so there is nothing to worry about,” Dr. Candide said leaving with the metal trolley.
Kai watched Dr. Candide leave.
“Don’t w he he says. That’s easy for him to say,” Kai grumbled after the doctor, then he turned and lent forward grabbing Rei’s limp hand and placing it against his cheek he whispered, “I love you Rei.”
