Chapter 3

Rim: I finally get to another chapter, I know I’m just causing everyone to want to kill me at some point with all the suspense and then disappearances, but fear not, another chapter! Sit back and enjoy the brilliance of my mind.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was another beautiful day outside, the sun shone bright through the windows, birds chirped merry songs of the morning’s beauty, but the green haired figure at the dining table in his large mansion’s dining room was oblivious to it all. Usually he would have gobbled down the sunny side up eggs sitting by the links of sausage cooked to a perfect golden brown, a slice of fried ham, and lightly crispy bacon. On a separate plate sat three fluffy pancakes dripped with sweet dripping blueberry jam and powdered sugar.
The food in front of him sat virtually untouched as Zeo stared into space. Since the other day, most of his meals times were conducted in such a manner. Besides his distance during meals, Zeo had refrained from training with the other Bladebreakers in the past two days. He didn’t want to see Kai.
Zeo really didn’t know what to think. His mind was one massive jumble of thoughts and flashes of memories from the other day. He really had no idea about what to make of the things Kai said to him the other day. Was it really true? Was it truth what Kai had told him in that study, or had Kai been messing around with his head?
‘You’re the only one that has ever been on my mind. I’ve never wanted anyone but you.’
Kai really wasn’t serious about the things he said. The dual haired captain of the Bladebreakers team couldn’t have been. Why of all people would he be interested in Zeo? Of course, it was true that he was in love with Tyson it seemed that Kai was the only one who saw it.
‘I know already about your feelings for that blind moron. But if you didn’t know, his eyes are glued to Max while you pine over him. He doesn’t see you the way I do. He never will, Zeo.’
‘How does he know that Tyson likes Max? How does he know that Tyson won’t like me if I tell him how I really feel? I bet he’s just saying that because he wants me to rush into his arms,’ Zeo thought to himself as he stabbed at an egg on his plate.
“Master Zeo?” one of the maids in the house was coming back with a tall glass of orange juice, her brows furling together once she noticed the green haired young man had yet to touch any of his food.
“Huh?” Zeo blinked, looking up at the maid with short brown hair in tight spirals who sat the glass of orange down on the table in front of him. Her dark blue eyes studied him momentarily with reflection. “Were you saying something Rika?”
“You haven’t touched any of your food Master Zeo, are you feeling okay?” the young maid by the name of Rika inquired. “As of late, you haven’t been eating, is there something on your mind that’s troubling you?” Though she had hit the nail on the head, he didn’t want her to worry about him, or think she had to do something special in order to get him to smile. That and the fact that if he really did tell her what was wrong, word may get back to his father, Zagard currently being overseas on another project, and did not wished to be disturbed by “trivial” issues so he called them.
“I’m fine you don’t have to worry about me I guess I’m just being a space case while my father is gone,” Zeo smiled.
“But you haven’t been eating lately, are you sure you’re fine Master Zeo, if there is anything I can do to help, don’t hesitate to ask me,” she said with concern in her voice.
“No, it’s all right, don’t worry about me. Maybe my eyes are much bigger than stomach usually is,” Zeo joked.
“Master Zeo…” the maid was about to say something else when another maid, this one with short black hair trimmed into a short boyish bob walked into the dining room accompanied by three boys, Zeo recognizing Rei, Max, and Tyson entering the room. The new maid bowed respectfully towards Zeo and the other maid.
“Tyson, Rei, Max, what are you three doing here? I thought you would be out training by now? Did Kai cancel training this morning?” Zeo inquired setting down his fork and pushing himself away from the table. The two maids kindly excused themselves from their young master’s conversation with his friends to go back to their morning chores. Zeo was thankful for the interruption, though curious as to why they were at his house.
“Actually Kai left us all a message saying that he had something important to do for the morning and that we could train ourselves. Since we know Tyson will never get any training done without Kai pushing us towards it, we just came to make sure that for one you were alive,” Max said.
“Yeah, you haven’t come out to train with us in two days,” Tyson added in. “We got a little worried about you buddy, you feeling okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, Tyson,” Zeo smiled touched they were so concerned for him to come over and see if he was feeling okay. “You didn’t have to make the trip all the way over to my house though.”
“Hey, you’re our friend, a phone call wouldn’t have sufficed, you might have said anything on the phone to make sure we didn’t worry about you,” Tyson said.
“I hope we weren’t disturbing your breakfast,” Rei indicated to the food set on the table.
“Oh no, I was just finishing up,” Zeo said, shaking his head, so that his green bangs swept his eyes occasionally.
“You mean you were finishing up breakfast with that much food on your plate,” Tyson exclaimed. “What did you do, eat like a corner? You keep that up and you’ll never get any taller, not to mention it wouldn’t help if you filled yourself out in some places.”
“I…” Zeo blushed at the comment, but quickly recovered from the comment when he found Tyson’s eyes on him, an amusing flickering catching Zeo’s eyes, causing his heart to pitter patter. “I guess I won’t…but if you want…you can have what I didn’t eat.” If there was one thing Zeo knew, Tyson was a food junkie, burning off all the calories he in take with training and chores.
“You know you shouldn’t invite Tyson to your meals, you’ll never get him to leave then,” Max chimed, watching Tyson sit down in the chair Zeo had previously discarded.
“Hey, wasting food is a crime, I’m only doing what needs to be done,” Tyson said, mouth already full with eggs as he pointed the fork to Max. “It wouldn’t kill you either if you gained a little weight too.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Max flushed, staring down at the blue haired Dragoon wielder as he finished off the plate with eggs, sausage, bacon, and ham and was about to start on the pancakes.
“You’re all wiry and stuff,” Tyson said, around chewing on the first pancake. “You lack a little bit of muscle. What do you weigh, like 95 pounds or something?”
“No I do not weigh 95 pounds,” Max said. “I in fact weigh 112 pounds for your information. What do you weigh, since you’re the perfect example of what a person should weigh, Tyson?”
“One twenty-seven,” Tyson chimed.
“Fat,” was all that Max said, a grinning coming to his face as Tyson nearly choked on the last pancake before glaring at Max. “What? Did I say something to hit a nerve, Tyson?”
“Who the hell are you calling fat?” Tyson frowned. “I’m nowhere near fat!”
“That’s true, Max. Tyson isn’t fat, he’s what we would call plump or pudgy,” Rei chuckled, getting into the conversation. Tyson’s eyes widened as he gaped at the two then flushed red.
“To hell with you both,” Tyson said. “Zeo, you don’t think I’m fat do you?”
“Say yes Zeo,” Max whispered.
“It’s hard not to deny that he might end up one of those people who will have to be cut out of his house in order to get surgery,” Rei laughed.
“Shut up!” Tyson frowned.
“I don’t think you’re fat Tyson,” Zeo said softly. The moment he said that, Tyson was out of the chair hugging Zeo and telling his other two friends they could go to hell in gasoline soaked hand baskets. In the back of Zeo’s mind, of course, there were a lot of things that Zeo wanted to say to Tyson, but he didn’t know how the other would respond to his confessions. So for the moment, he reveled in the scent of peach Tyson’s bathed and shampooed his hair with.
“Hey by the way Zeo,” Max said watching Tyson let go of Zeo who turned his eyes on Max. “Did you go by Kai’s house the other day?”
“Yeah, I did,” Zeo nodded his thoughts from before reawaked from where they settled in the back of his mind. How was he going to tell Rei what Kai had said? That had been a minor concern until realization hit him now. He couldn’t tell Rei that Kai’s eyes were solely on Zeo for whatever reason.
“And what happened?” Rei inquired, his eyes shining with anticipation.
“Well…” Zeo trailed off.
“Did you tell him or not?” Max asked.
“I did,” Zeo said.
“Then what did he say?” Tyson inquired with a curious look. “I bet he was horrified to know that someone liked his cold ass.”
“Tyson,” Max reprimanded. “He’s not that bad, you two just get off on the bad foot every time you’re around each other.”
“Hey, I’m the one that tries to be friendly with him, but he just looks at me as if he’s better than me or something crap like that, maybe if he were to lighten up, take that stick out his ass, he would see that I can be quite a fun person to be around,” Tyson stated, crossing his arms over his chest.
“You know, with remarks like that, you wonder why he doesn’t like you at all,” Rei said his eyes on Zeo who looked apprehensive over the conversation. What had Kai said to Zeo two days ago?
“Oh come on Rei, he’s a hard ass and you know it,” Tyson spoke. “I’m seriously wondering why you like him in the first place. The only great thing about him is his body and face. Everything else is just lost on me.”
“Kai is a great person,” Rei stated. “You just have to learn to get around his stoic attitude he uses as a shield. He likes his solitude, and he’s smart and knowledgeable about a lot of things.”
“Like tormenting me for instance?” Tyson countered.
“You’re impossible,” Rei sighed, shaking his head.
“Hey, I have an idea,” Tyson beamed. “Since our so called “captain” can’t be bothered with us doing whatever he thinks is so important, how about we go to the mall to hang out. We can drop by Chief’s house and then finish this conversation while playing some games?”
“That’s not a bad idea,” Max agreed. “Besides, Tyson owes me another round from last time.”
“Oh, I do huh?” Tyson said.
“Yes you do,” Max chimed.
“What do you say Zeo, do you want to hang out with me, Chief, and those two?” Rei pointed to Max and Tyson. “And when you feel more comfortable, you can tell me what Kai said.”
“Rei…thank you so much,” Zeo bowed. “But…”
“Master Zeo,” Rika walked back in the room with an envelope in her hands.
“Rika, what’s wrong? What’s in your hand?” Zeo said. Maybe God was being merciful on him and giving him these little interventions to gather together his thoughts. The maid walked up to him and placed the gold envelope in his hand. With a frown, Zeo looked down at it, finding it sealed with wax that was stamped with the insignia of a phoenix. “What’s this?”
“It was just dropped off by a young man, he said that it was important that you received this,” she said.
“What did he look like?” Tyson inquired. Rika turned her attention to Tyson while Zeo broke the seal on the envelope and pulled out a simple crimson card, beautifully calligraphy letters in golden ink stood out from the saffron scented paper.
“He was a very handsome young man, maybe about five seven or eight I think. Beautiful eyes, like a color between amber and crimson. Oh, and his hair was strange, it was two colors,” Rika said.
“Light slate blue in the front making up his bangs and dark blue in the back?” Rei answered her question.
“Yes exactly!” she chimed. “He was very polite when he asked me to give the envelope to the young master.”
“What the heck is Kai doing over this way?” Tyson frowned. “Zeo, what did he write you?”
Zeo looked up at the words and blinked. “He’s hosting a party for us tonight…”
“What?” Max asked.
“Let me see that,” Tyson said, taking the card from Zeo and looking it over. “I’m formally inviting you, along with the other members of the Bladebreakers’ squad, to a party I will be hosting tonight. I hope you will be able to make it. Casual wear is acceptable.”
“When does it begin?” Rei asked.
“He says that dinner will be served at nine, so I guess we can be there by eight or something like that,” Tyson shrugged. “Do you think this is legit?”
“And what were you saying before about him being a hard ass, Tyson?” Max said. “It’s obvious that he’s trying to make the effort to patch things up.” Max wondered if this party was the subject of all of Kai’s far away thoughts lately. Maybe he really didn’t need to worry after all.
“I say we honor Kai and attend,” Rei said. “We can go by Chief’s house and see what he says and if he got a home delivery invitation too. Maybe he dropped one off at all of our houses, which was why he told us to fend for ourselves today.”
“Sounds like a plan to me,” Zeo said, a little nervous because he didn’t know what to expect from the dual haired older teen. Would Kai again try to seduce him? And when Rei found out that Kai wasn’t interested in him…what then? Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad the others would be there with him. He had nothing to worry about.
Or so he thought because while Zeo, Tyson, Max, and Rei were discussing things over, Kai was already heading back to his house, several bags on the seat beside him in the limo. His mind was still working over the steps to his plan for that night. He figured that it was best to get things established early without so much time passing by. After all, Zeo was given two days already to think things over.
Looking at a small paper bag, Kai picked it up and examined it. It was actually a pharmacy bag, filled with four different bottles of prescriptions. It hadn’t taken long to get his family doctor to believe that he needed the bottles in his bag and write him prescriptions. Opening the bag, he pulled out the information sheets included on what the medicines did and any reactions towards taking them. His auburn eyes flickered over the words, before a slow smirk came to his lips.
Placing the information sheets back in the bags once he was done reading, he looked over the other three bags that remained. Kai sat back enjoying all the beautiful images of Zeo roaming through his head. Leaning his head against the leather seat, Kai lowered his hand to the bulge in his pants, rubbing a thumb lightly over the top. Lowering his lashed over his eyes, Kai thought about the perfect little script he made up in his head for that night.
“You’re about to learn the truth about what you really want, Zeo. And once you do, you’re going to thank me for showing you the way,” Kai chuckled lightly. “Your eyes will soon be open, don’t worry my angel. Your master will take care of everything.”
Well…hopefully the next chapter will come faster. And won’t take me so long to type up…hopefully.
