Chapter Three
Chapter Three
Hazy, bright light burned the eyes behind the fluttering lashes. Disoriented, she tried to raise upward, but the throbbing at the back of her head, made her wince and fall back. She could not remember the last few hours nor did she know exactly where she was. People were talking around her, about her. When the images in front of her began to focus, she realized that she was in a hospital.
"Welcome back, you were lucky." The Doctor smiled, looking down at her. "You had a nasty blow to the head, but your going to be alright."
She turned her head, squinting her eyes as her hands went upward towards her own head, trying to figure out what had happen. Slowly, it was beginning to come back to her. Blue eyes searched the faces of the Doctors, then sighed as she tried to whisper across parched lips.
"Give her another shot of the sedative." She heard someone say before the darkness came again.
----
"You are the one that brought her here?" The doctor looked towards the dark haired boy, waiting for acknowledgement.
"Yeah, I did. Is she alright?" Kira whispered, shoving his hands into his pockets.
"She is lucky. You can take her home now. Make sure that she sleeps through the rest of the night." There was no use in keeping her when they found the knot on the back of her head, it wasn't inside and it didn't appear that any further tests would need to be run. All in all, she would have a bad headache in the morning. "Sign the release papers and you can go." The doctor turned around and walked off.
----
This had not been the way he invisioned their first meeting. For one, she was passed out. Two, he felt as if he shoudn't even be here in her apartment. Though, he knew he had made the right choice, when he looked through her wallet to get her address, finding the keys to her home. He figured that when she did awaken, she wouldn't be as startled to find herself in her own bed.. it was going to take alot of explaining to do, that he did know.
He felt that she should have been admitted, but it didn't happen that way. Sighing, he laid her down upon the bed, taking a moment to truely look at her face. She was prettier than he had expected, having that fragile quality that attracted him. Hesitantly, he moved the hair back from her face, feeling the supple flesh of her cheek in the process. He shouldn't be here. Stepping away from the bed, he turned walking out, pausing long enough to shut the door behind him.
When Belinda awoke the next morning, she did in fact have a horrible headache. For a moment, she wondered what had happen, then remembered the attack. The man. The dark haired boy. The Doctors.
"Damn.." She whispered, rubbing the back of her head, feeling the tender knot. She realized then that she was in her own apartment, tucked into her own bed. Pushing the covers aside, she put two shaky feet onto the floor and lifted herself. Her world began to spin and it took a moment for her to regain her composure. Reaching out, she steadied herself upon the dresser, taking her time in moving towards the door.
It was then that the door opened, followed by the dark haired boy. "You shouldn't get up! Your going to fall." He touched her gently upon the arm, helping her back to the bed. "It's alright.. I am not going to hurt you." The corners of his mouth had begun to turn upward in the hints of a smile.
"You were there last night.. " She whispered, finding the bed to be welcoming. "You watch me." She paused, closing her eyes as she sunk again into the pillows. "Somehow I beleive you.. " Her eyes were closing again, but then suddenly she wrenched them open. "What is your name?"
"Kira.." He felt his cheeks flush, realizing that he had been found out. "I am sorry.. I.." Though, before he could say another word, she was speaking again. "Its alright Kira. If you had not been watching me, I could have been seriously hurt." She took ahold of his hand, pulling it close against her chest as she succumbed to sleep once more.
In the pale light of the morning, Kira watched Belinda sleep. The warmth of her hand in his, brought him closer down upon the bed beside her. Maybe it would be alright after all. Finding that sleep was going to claim him as well, he closed his eyes.
Hours later, when Kira awoke he was startled to discover that the daylight had passed and darkness had taken its place. When he reached out for her, he felt nothing but empty sheets. She was gone. Stumbling to his feet, he walked out of the room..
"Hello?" He called out, turning as he stepped into the kitchen. A wave of relief passing him, when he seen her standing against the counter.
"I was just fixing myself some coffee.. Would you like some?"
"Yeah.. that would be nice." He shoved his hands into his pockets, leaning then against the wall.
"You said your name was Kira, didn't you?"
"Yeah."
"I am Belinda." She whispered, pouring the dark liquid into a cup and handing it to him. "Though, you already know that, don't you?"
Nodding his head, Kira took the cup into his hands then stepped towards the table when she did. "I am sorry that I went into your purse.. but I didn't know what to do when they released you. They thought.." He paused, feeling heat rise in his cheeks. "The hospital thought I was your boyfriend."
She gave him a half smile, then shook her head, "I see. Well, I suppose I should thank you?" She asked, watching him silently then for a moment.
"You don't need to thank me."
"I don't? You saved my life, didn't you?" She rose and moved towards him. "Shouldn't I try and repay your kindness?" She asked, looking down into his face.
"You don't owe me noth..." He was caught by surprise when he felt her mouth upon his, pushing back to break the union.
"Isn't that you what you want?" She narrowed her eyes, looking at him.
"Yes.. I mean no." He stumbled over his words, suddenly rising from the chair. This was not going as he had planned.
"What is it, Kira. Yes or no?" She coming towards him again, reaching out to place her hands onto his.
He jerked away from her, as if she had burnt him. Turning he walked away into the living area of the apartment, grabbing his jacket. "I am sorry. I will be leaving now." Though, he didn't hear when she slipped behind him, pressing her mouth against his ear. "Kira, its okay.. I will give you this." Her hands moved around his sides, dipping towards the middle of his stomach.
It took most of his willpower, but his hands pressed atop hers, bringing them away from his body. This wasn't right. She had some weird and warped sense of trying to repay him, when all he wanted to do was take care of her. Of course he wanted her, but not like this. "Thats not what I want.. thats not the reason I did what I did." Sighing, he turned and stepped out, taking a deep breath of fresh air.
"I am sorry, Kira. Don't leave. I shouldn't have done that, I only wanted to see if your motives were justified." She sighed, stepping out of the way, hoping he would come back inside from the doorway. "Because of what I am, most would assume that this would be their repayment. I suppose your not like the rest, are you?"
