Chapter 3 Back to Friezaship
The second day the Saiyans set off on the return journey to Frieza’s main ship. Goku waved a sad goodbye to his new pet. Bibi shed a lot of sticky fluid, but Goku was not sure if it were the equivalent of tears or something else. Still, it was apparent Bibi was not happy his new friend was leaving so soon. Goku turned around and said, “Awwww, wasn’t he adorable?” Vegeta exchanged a look of disbelief with Raditz, thinking the younger Saiyan must have hit his head somewhere. He was surprised his patience for the young man went far enough he hadn’t blast the monster to ashes. Normally he would not let a chance for any possible disgrace continue. However he had to admit he rather like the innocent face of this new subject of his. He did not want to ruin that yet, not on such a trivial thing. He would rather leave that to more serious adventure he had planned for the young man. Saving such actions for the future would only increase the fun. Vegeta smirked.
A couple of hours later, they landed on Frieza’s main ship. When the door of their small spaceship hissed open, a purple alien greeted them. He said Frieza wanted to see them in the commander’s chamber, and was waiting for the update of the recent purge. Vegeta nodded in understanding and took his pack to the main commander’s room.
Goku was in awe. He could feel so many strong kis around. It seemed all the best warriors of the universe were gathered here—all of them were stronger than humans, most of them were stronger than him, a lot of them stronger than Raditz and even a dozen stronger than Vegeta! A normal warrior would be intimidated, but Goku was not a normal warrior. He felt excited—there would be so many challenges ahead, so many battles to have and so much fun! Among all the kis there was an especially strong one ahead them. It seemed they were approaching that location. What will this person be like? Goku thought in anticipation. He could be my ultimate target to reach.
Entering the main commander’s room Vegeta stopped, waiting for the leader to greet them. Frieza turned around and scanned the pack. His eyes immediately fell on the new member. He looked strong yet the scouter reading was low, the lowest of the whole pack. His face looked naïve, indicating he might be the youngest of them all. His expression was combined with excitement and awe, and seemed to be admiring the new leader in front of him. What a wonderful expression. Frieza thought, immediately taking a liking of the new joiner. Given time and training, he will become a great warrior and make lots of money for me. Frieza nodded in satisfaction and spoke.
“Well. Well. I am glad you finished your task and also brought a new member of yours, Prince Vegeta. I have prepared a celebration drink in the pub. You can go and relax and wait for my next orders.”
Vegeta was surprised the tyrant was not an ass this time. He seemed genuinely satisfied. Good, he thought, That will give me more time to train in order to beat him.
He bowed in respect and left the chamber quickly, heading for the pub of the ship. The pub was located in the center of the ship and relatively quiet at the moment as it was still middle of the day. When the four Saiyans entered the whole pub went quiet for five seconds before the murmuring noise started again. The aliens all saw the newcomer. Some immediately lusted for his beauty and put him into their perusing list. He was weak and it would not take too much trouble. Some envied his good looks knowing that he would have special attention from now on. Some seemed indifferent—a new Saiyan, what difference could he make?
Vegeta could not suppress a growl, feeling sudden anger that so many people wanted to intrude in his territory. He was surprised at his reaction. He was generally protective to all Saiyans, but he hadn’t realized he would feel so strong toward the new member. Maybe because he is extremely stupid. Maybe I should leave him to learn his own lessons.
Zarbon sat at his normal stool in the pub, enjoying a leisurely drink. Suddenly the murmur of the room had gone quiet. He turned his head to the entrance of the door, seeing four Saiyans standing there checking the environment. Vegeta wore his normal scowling face, looking as though everybody owned him a lot of money. However there was a new member standing behind him. Although he wore the same battle suit as everybody else, his posture and expression indicated he was the new kid on the block and he had no clue what was happening on this ship. He looked unguarded and relaxed, just like an open invitation. How could I let this pass? Zarbon thought as he smirked excitedly. I’d better mark my prey now before he is taken by others. With that, he hopped off the stool and walked over to Vegeta.
“Welcome back, Prince Vegeta.” Zarbon greeted. Even as he was talking to Vegeta his eyes moved past Vegeta’s head and scanned Goku in appreciation. “I can see you have brought a new member of yours. What is his name?”
Vegeta was not happy, not happy at all. Zarbon’s interest was so apparent. If others were interested he thought he could defend against them with ease, but this guy was such a tough nut. If Zarbon set his eyes on Kakarotto, there is no way he could defend him. Maybe there is no point in ruining my long term plan with this stupid Saiyan. Maybe I should let him learn his own lesson. Maybe after Zarbon he will appreciate me more—I don’t know where the last thought came from. Vegeta shook off his random thoughts and nodded to Zarbon.
“His name is Kakarotto and he is one of MY warriors.” Vegeta emphasized the “my”, hoping Zarbon would retreat at hearing it. However this didn’t seem to bother Zarbon. He brushed past Vegeta and stood right in front of Goku. Zarbon raised a hand to Goku “Hi, my name is Zarbon and I am the Vice commander of the ship. Welcome aboard.”
Goku could tell the person in front of him was very strong and looked him over in appreciation. Maybe I can learn some techniques from him. He seems rather friendly. He took the hand offered and smile broadly, “Hi my name is Go…Kakarotto, nice to meet you too.”
Vegeta almost choked on his own saliva. The idiot! He had no idea what he was getting himself into.
Zarbon did not immediately let Kakarotto’s hand go after the introduction. On the contrary, he pulled the young Saiyan forward and brushed his shoulder against the other’s before let go. “Oh well, I guess I will see you around then.” With that he sauntered away.
What was that? Goku felt a bit creepy. He is very weird. Goku decided he would be careful around the green-skin alien.
Vegeta suppressed his urge to explode. Luckily Zarbon disappeared very quickly and did not leave enough time for his dilemma. He took a deep breath, knowing it was not a good idea to have a fight with the Vice commander of the ship. He saw the alarm in Goku’s eyes. At least he is not that stupid. He took hold of his anger and walked to a table in a huff.
The pub went back to normal. Those who set eyes on Goku decided to quit. Nobody wanted to get involved in a fight with Zarbon or Vegeta. The power level of Vegeta was very high already and Zarbon’s level was only below Frieza. Those who had envied Goku now laughed, thinking the young man’s future was not going to be pretty, with two elite warriors marking him as prey.
Once they settled Vegeta took a token provided by Frieza and ordered four huge beers. Just when the Saiyans were about to settle down to relax and drink, another noise appeared at the doorway. This time they could not see what happening from where they sat. All they could see was the crowd split to form a path for somebody, jumping out the way, their hands covering their noses, seeming to be disgusted by something.
Goku could not see what was happening on the ground. Only when the creature moved closer they saw an old alien. He seemed to have lost his legs; that was why he was crawling on the ground. His hair was white, but tangled with blocks of black grease. Dark brown skin, covered by rags, which were also covered in dirt and grease. The whole room stunk since he came in. Dark green eyes sparked, seeming to hide a lot of secrets and wisdom, shaded by a white brow. He cast his glance in Goku’s direction. Goku felt a chill in his body.
A sleepy waiter apparently was not aware of the new situation on the ground when he walked out with four glasses of beer on his plate. He stepped on one of the alien’s arms. Just before he tripped and poured the glasses of alcohol onto the old alien’s body, Goku disappeared from his chair. In a blink of an eye he was next to the old alien, plate of glasses in his hand. The waiter fell on the old alien’s body, blinked his eyes and discovered what was in front of him. He cursed and ran away as though he had seen a ghost.
Goku bent down and patted the alien on the shoulder. “Are you all right?” The old alien looked at Goku, eyes sparking interest. “I am fine. You own me a drink young man.” A normal person would have left the old alien alone, thinking they had just saved his ass and didn’t owe him a drink. But Goku only shrugged his shoulders and said, “OK.”
He walked back to Vegeta and stuck his hand out. “Vegeta, can I borrow the token for a minute?” Vegeta covered his nose and drop out the token. Goku’s hand stunk just from the short contact with the old alien. “Here, now go.”
Several minutes later, Goku sat next to the old alien, each had a beer in their hands. The old alien asked, “What is your name?”
“My name is Goku. I came from Earth. However, here they all call me Kakarotto, my Saiyan name. Earth brought me up but I am a Saiyan.”
“I see. A cross galaxy upbringing. Interesting. That might explain your extraordinary potential for power. You will become the strongest of them all and your cross-cultural upbringing will help you break through your limit and reach the power your own species doesn’t normally have. “
“Really?” Goku asked in curiosity. “How do you know?”
“Well, my name is Sagi, I am the Wiseman of the ship. Actually, I was Frieza’s right hand decades ago, my power level only below Frieza, even better than what Zarbon is now. I lost my legs in a battle in the attempt to protect Frieza. Normally if a warrior got disabled in the battle, he would be killed on the spot. The ship would not provide for a useless warrior. However, I lost my legs by protecting Frieza, he was thankful to me. Plus I am also the scientist of the ship, I collect information and do research for him. That is why he kept me. However, because I lost my power, other warriors are not so kind. They bully me when they can, in return for the humiliation of working for me in the past.” Sagi shook his head in disapproval.
“Is that why you make yourself so dirty just to repel them?”
Sagi smiled “Wow, you are not as dense as you appear.” He was rather happy. Goku was the first person he was able to carry a normal conversation with in years. “But your current power level is still quite low. Why don’t you come to my chamber tomorrow to see what I can do?”
“Okay.” Goku grinned too. It is always good if there was a new technique to learn. Master Roshi taught him all he could and he benefited greatly. He also enjoyed the company with him. Here in this alien world, an old man provided him some teaching and a sanctuary; it could only be Kami’s blessing. “Thank you.”
A couple of hours later, they landed on Frieza’s main ship. When the door of their small spaceship hissed open, a purple alien greeted them.
