there, we discovered not only was he there, but so were the other four of the
Five, and Max, Rei, and Kenny, too. We
were all welcomed back, and a bombshell was dropped on us.
“It
has been our intention since we formed the Squad that you five would someday
take over our positions. Judy, as you
know, is Director of Research and Development, and we hoped Kenny would be
willing to take on that roll. Mr.
Mizuhara has been in charge of Security section and jointly in charge of
Technologies with Gramps, who has also been looking after Training and
Recruitment. We hoped that Max and
Tyson would be willing to take on those positions. And Rei, we hoped you would be interested in taking Mr. Grangers
position as the head of the Education and Finances departments.”

the BBA and Director of the Spirit Squad.”
I
just sat there, stunned speechless.
“Now
that’s what I call a promotion.”
Max breathed, awed.
“Congratulations, Kai!”
We
ended up sitting there, all ten of us, and negotiated just how everything would
be shifted over to us. Judy and Mr. Granger
were still going to remain in the Squad, and were still going to do what they’d
been doing all along, only they weren’t going to be in charge or have to worry
about the administrative stuff any longer.
That was our problem now. We
didn’t mind, really. As long as we got
to go out into the field on occasion, we were happy.
After all, what’s the point of being the best
of the best if you couldn’t go out and show off?

Tyson
looked over Kai’s shoulder as he finished typing.
“Done?
“Are
you kidding me? That took forever.”
“Well,
I did suggest you ask Kenny for that program where you just dictate into a
microphone and the computer types it out for you, but no-o.
Kai
frowned and grabbed him, pulling him down into his lap and nuzzling his neck
contentedly. “So how was Gramps?
Tyson
laughed. “Yep.
better in a couple of days and he can go home.
Hilary and Kenny are planning a surprise party for him.”
“Joy.
“In
the afternoon on Friday. Come on,
Kai. You aren’t as much of a
stick-in-the-mud as you pretend to be.”
Tyson snuggled into his lover’s arms and pressed tiny kisses to his
forehead, cheeks, and down past his ear.
Kai
smiled softly. “Only for you, my
dragon.”
“Hey,
Kai?”
“Hmm…?”
“What
made you decide to put all this down anyway?”
Tyson gestured at the screen of the computer. “It’s not like anyone at the Squad can ever read it.”
“No.
back, or for either of us to forget how much we went through just to be
together. And I want our children to
know, too, someday.” Kai explained
softly.
Tyson
moved back so he could look into those fathomless crimson eyes.
You’d want kids? If you’re
planning on them reading this, love, I’d suggest editing out the, ah…more racy
parts. I don’t think they’re going to
want to read about their parents getting it on.”
Kai
blinked and laughed. “Oh, right.
Why not? Who else am I going to
pass Dranzer on to someday? Or you
Dragoon?” The dual-haired blader
colored slightly.
“You
have a point.” Tyson grinned and leaned
in, capturing Kai’s mouth with his own.
“Mmm…are you tired? It’s only
11:30 pm…”
“I’m
never too tired for you, lover. I love
you, Kinomiya. Always.
“Same
here, Hiwatari. Let’s go to bed, shall
we?”
“Why
walk all that way? The couch over there
is closer.” Kai grinned wickedly and
stood up, lifting Tyson easily and carrying him to the couch where they lay
down and proceeded to show each other just how deep and far their emotions ran.
