Chapter 4


“Um Jin did I hear you correctly?”
“You are going to be in tonight’s performance. So you will have to practice today with everyone else.”
“ Okay um well I thought I wasn’t in the class.” He looks up at the man with a questioning look.
“ You see. Julia she is our star performer. She came down with the flu and is unable to performer.”
“But I don’t know the steps. And wait a minute! A girl! I am going to play the part of a girl!?!”
“Brooklyn asked for you since he said you are a fast learner. And well you’re the only one with real long hair to match the princess so yes you are performing as a girl.” He kneels down and begins to pick up every sword the shock boy dropped.
‘I don’t believe it. Me? I am going to be in a performance! This is incredible! Well I am going to be a girl but who gives a damn! I\'m in the play!’ He begins to jump for joy. “I’m in the play! I’m in a play!!!”
“Hey will you help me. You dropped these after all.”
He looks down and sees an upset Jin looking up at him.
“Oh right! Sorry!” He quickly kneels and begins to help him.


It was three o clock and the performance class has been practicing none stop. Rei is sitting down drinking from his water bottle. He looks up to see the scene where the hero is being escorted through the city. In this scene the hero is wearing a cloak covering his identity. The villagers are throwing a welcome parade for he has defeat the bandits who were trying to run off with their gold. The other performers were wearing bright colorful lose clothing that flare while they dance. Making the scene look like a beautiful dance of sea.
“Okay that is good. Now let us take it to where the princess meets her hero. Rei come on up here.”
“Yeah!”
He places his bottle on his seat and quickly makes his way up to the stage.
“You will sit here. Your hero will reveal his identity to you so be sure to look surprise.”
“Got it.”
Every one leaves from the stage except for four guards who stand near the throne and Rei is sitting on a beautiful red wood chair which has the carving of a dragon and it’s wings are extended looking as if it is protecting the person on the throne.
“Music.”
A soft melody begins to play. Chanting of women begin and that is when the hero steps in. He bows and Rei lightly bows his head. He signals the hero to stand. He does and slowly removes his hood. He lifts his head up and looks into Rei’s eyes.
“You! OH HELL NO!” Rei stands up and looks at the hero in shock.
“Stop!” The music is halted and Brooklyn runs up unto the stage. “Rei you are not supposed to say anything. Especially hell no!”
“Sorry! I uh…I am so sorry!” He begins to bow his head over and over.
“ Rei remember this is a dance performance. No talking only body movement and facial expressions. Please.”
“Yes…I am terribly sorry.”
“Alright. Let us do the party scene. Rei and Kai here is where the princess and hero dance a waltz and then they will head into the garden. Here Kai you hand her a flower and that is where the black dragon clan will attack and this is where a small battle will occur okay.”
‘I need to dance with jack ass!’ Rei looks over to the dual hair boy and stares at him in shock. ‘Hell no…that means touching each other!’ He looks away and begins to blush.
“Alright positions! Hurry everyone. We only have one hour of practice and then we are off to rest. “Here we go!”
Rei gulps and watches as Kai made his way through the crowd to ask for a dance.
‘Relax…he won’t kill you…not in front of everyone…he might make you look stupid though…shit!’ He looks up and sees the hero extending his hand to him for a dance. Rei slowly places his hand on top of Kai’s and they slowly make their way into center stage and there they warped their arms around each other and slowly begin to dance. The raven hair lowers his gaze unto the ground and watches the moment of Kai’s steps.
“Rei! Get closer to Kai and look deeply into each other’s eyes!”
He slowly lifts his head and looks into those red orbs. He soon feels as he is slowly being devoured into that piercing gaze Kai was giving him. A few minutes more of dancing and soon they both turn and pretend to walk into a garden. There a small bench is quickly set and Kai leads Rei to it. He sits the raven hair boy down and kneels before him. There, he plucks a white tulip well a person handed it to him. He hands it to Rei and the raven hair takes it and places it in front of his mouth and smiles down at the hero.
“Great! Next scene!”
Everyone begins to move around except for Kai and Rei who continue to stare at each other.
‘Why is my heart pounding so fast? I am sweating…and I feel my face all hot…’ He quickly snaps out of it and stands up. He moves aside from Kai and quickly makes his way toward the other performers. ‘Shit what was that all about?’ The raven hair frowns and looks down at the white tulip his still held in his hands.


Five-fifty the dance performance class weas preparing themselves for the opening night. They were all getting into their outfits and warming up. Rei is sitting in front of a mirror frowning.
“You look pretty.”
“Are you kidding!?” Rei looks up at a smiling Mariah. “ I look ridiculous!”
He stands up and begins to turn around letting the pink hair girl look him over. He was wearing a light yellow color Chinese outfit. The sleeves were long and flowy He was wearing ruby red clip on earrings that hung low with beautiful red ribbons hanging from the orb of each. His hair was tied up in two Chinese buns and his hair pulled out from the bottom. He had red wraps around the buns and hanging from them were green gems and long tassels.
“You look pretty! I am sure you will knock everyone dead with your beauty your majesty.” She giggles and bows.
“ You are so not funny.” He pouts and quickly sits back down.
“Relax. You will be wonderful. Now let me finish with your makeup.”
“Fine.”
She begins to apply pink blush over his cheeks when suddenly Kai walks up to them.
“Mariah I need you to do some quick altering on this.”
They both look over and see a handsome looking Kai handing her his jacket. The jacket was a mid long white jacket with gold rims on the collar and down. On the side of the sleeves were red flames surrounded by gold trimming as well. A tight black no sleeve shirt that showed his well built chest. He had on mid-long tight black gloves, white baggy pants with a belt and gold buckle. Long black boots with leg armor covering them, a sword wrapped near his waist and a long red bandana wrapping his forehead.
“You look great Kai.” The pink hair girl said to him as she took the jacket from him.
“Whatever. Hurry up with it okay. There are a few lose strings on the bottom of it.”
“I will get on it right away.”
She quickly runs off toward the sewing machine leaving Rei with Kai.
The dual hair looks down and catches the raven hair staring with his mouth wide open. Rei notices and quickly turns away with a slight blush on the bridge of his nose. Kai smirks and leans back against the makeup table.
“Alright everyone places. We are about to start.” Jin comes walking in holding a clipboard and wearing a headset. Everyone quickly begin to line up in his or her positions.
Rei quickly gets up and heads where the rest are standing. Kai stares at the raven hair boy walking away.
‘He better not screw this up.’


The lights are dimmed and the audience quiets down. Music begins to play and a narrator speaks. The curtains begin to pull apart and the first scene of a village is shown.


Rei’s solo soon arrives. In his scene he needs to do a traditional dance of mourning for the warriors who died during battle. During this scene he needs to dance with the weapon known as the Zamba-toh.
‘Okay…I can do this…I practiced…yes this will be simple…’ He takes in a deep breath and waits in his position. The background music begins to play and He is standing in the center. He soon draws out the Zamba-toh and begins to twirl it and do some fancy moves with it. Suddenly he drops the weapon. He quickly picks it up and once again continues, He does a twirl but he ends up dragging the weapon across his arm cutting himself.
‘Fuck!’ He drops the weapon and grips his arm. Brooklyn was about to walk out and call for an intermission when suddenly the mysterious hero walks in. He picks up the weapon and bows in front of Rei. He soon begins to do a dance in front of the raven hair and the narrator speaks.
“ Dragon Princess.I feel your mouring for these fallen warriors and that is whyI ask that you allow me to fight thies battle of blood. I cannot see you hurt yourself in any matter. Your dance is in sorrow and I can see that you wish that this battle were only a dream. Please let me a worthless warrior handle the black dragon clan alone.”
Rei watches the hero perform a gorgeous dance with grace and soon tears begin to build. The hero kneels down and plucks a white tulip and hands it to the princess.
“Allow me to serve you. My life is meaningless. This warrior would give his life if it means for the princess to continue living.”
The raven hair boy takes the tulip and places it in front of his mouth. He smiles and the tears fall.
The hero bows and picks the weapon up. He walks out of the stage. The curtains close for a quick intermission.


“Rei. Mariah will take you over to the nurse to get that looked over.” He turns over to the rest of the performers. “ Okay this is our big scene. The battle!”
“Come on Rei.”
He nods and they both head out of the building.
“I screwed up…”
“Hey no one noticed. They thought it was part of the play”
“…”
“Come on let’s hurry so that way you can make it back in time for the ending.”


The end of the performance the scene is a destroyed village and the dragon princess is in the center of the death mourning. The raven hair looks up and sees the hero slowly making his way toward him. Rei runs over to the fallen hero and lifts him up. He places his hand over the cheek of the princess and smiles.
The warrior closes his eyes and soon dies in the dragon princess arms. Rei pulls the hero closer to him and cries over the body. Figures dressed in black walk toward them from both sides and soon surround them. They begin to dance around the princess and the dead hero. They stop and pull out their swords. They continue to dance and soon strike the princess. They surround her fallen body and the curtains close.
Applauding and cheering is heard and the performers go out to receive the praise.

Rei is packing his bag up with his things and sees Kai walking toward him.
“You.”
He looks up and stares at the dual hair man.
“You screwed up and almost ruined this whole performance. I don’t know why Brooklyn even let an amateur like you perform in the first place. But let me make this clear. You are not a performer and no matter what Brooklyn thinks you will never be part of this performance group” With that he walks past the raven hair boy.
Rei doesn’t look up instead he continues to stare at the ground. ‘I’m not a performer?’
