Chapter 1 part 3-Heartbreak
Chapter 1 part 3-Heartbreak
The next morning Heero never showed up for work thinking –No one would care if I didn’t show up. No one would even notice.-
But he was wrong. Pair of onyx eyes searched for him diligently and were disappointed when he wasn’t there.
-----------------------
Dragging Taki with him Duo went to Heero’s office. Opening the door without knocking Duo marched right up to the desk and waited to get noticed.
Heero sighed in annoyance, irritated at the world in general. While he continued to ignore the intruders in his office he hoped they would get the hint and leave. They didn’t so he deemed to look up . The first thing that reached his eyesight was a pair of violet eyes. His heart clenched in pain but hope that ever present glimmer came back in full force. Whoever said, “Hope never hurt” was wrong. The faint happiness died a quick and agonizing death when he saw who Duo was with. His eyes frosted over to a look he usually reserved for his enemies. “…What?”
Duo witnessing the full effect of Heero’s death glare, for the first time aimed at him, paled and unconsciously stepped closer to Taki. “H-Heero.”
“…”
“I wanted to ask if you would double ate with Taki and I to sort of…” His voice trailed off as the glare got a few degrees more frigid.
Taki stepped in front of Duo and glared back at Heero. “What the hell is your problem Yuy?” He asked “Look we just came here to ask if you would double date with us as a favor. My cousin’s new to town and we thought maybe… Never mind.” He turned around. “Lets go Duo.” He walked out the door.
Duo looked back at Heero pausing in the doorway. He witnessed that when Heero thought they were gone his shoulders slumped and an expression of stark pain flashed through his cobalt blue eyes, and his own heart broke. –It wasn’t meant to be this way. I never meant to hurt you.-
Unbeknownst to the occupants of the room a slightly crazed pair of eyes gazed possessively at Heero. –You’re mine. Only mine no one else shall have you. Even if you have to die first.-
------------------------
Throughout the week Duo now covertly spied on Heero. He immediately noticed that Heero never left his office unless he had to use the bathroom. He never took a lunch break. If anything he became more and more withdrawn everyday. He remembered hearing the gossip about why he and Heero broke up and ignored it because it suited him, but never once did think about the effect the gossip would have on Heero. The little friends he had now ignored him, the people who were friendly yet not friends spread horrid rumors about him and Heero didn’t do anything to deserve that Duo finally made a decision to do something about it. He called on Quatre.
-------------------------
For the past week Wufei had been aware Heero was slowly killing himself. It was no secret. Everyday he would be thinner from not eating. Wufei knew Heero wasn’t eating because he took it upon himself to know these things.
He knew why Heero wasn’t eating as well. He was just waiting for Duo to call Quatre and ask them to fix the mess he made. He hurt thinking of the loneliness and pain Heero must be going through. He could see it every time he looked into the once bright eyes. He could tell from their dullness how hard the break-up has been on Heero. Those beautiful cobalt blue eyes used to be bright with happiness but now were shadowed with self-doubt, pain and unbearable inner anguish. Heero had little to no self-esteem before he and Duo were together and now after they broke up even the little self-esteem he had during their relationship disappeared.
“Damn you Maxwell!” Wufei muttered to himself. “It isn’t enough for you to mess up your own life but, you have to bring everyone else down with you.” He sighed thinking about Heero again. –If he were mine I wouldn’t have treated him this way.-
The interoffice phone rang, picking it up Wufei answered. “Chang.”
