Chapter 4
Ch 4. Unknowns from the Past
Vale forced his RX-180 Blitzkrieg Gundam prototype around a corner, the Blitzkrieg’s thruster output throwing chunks of road everywhere. The Blitzkrieg Gundam was designed to fight in and around colonies, so its primary armament was all close quarters equipment. It had a mini Minovsky Craft system installed in it, which allowed it to hover above the roads and surfaces in colonies. Built off of Vale’s RX-179, which was severely damaged when the transport plane that was recovering him and the rest of the 16MSAT from the Avian Bend base, got shot down. It used the same body, but the similarities ended there. The head was the same, but it had two 60mm CWIS guns in it. The multi launcher and Vulcan gun in the torso were removed as well, to make room for the Minovsky Craft system. Because of its small size however, the Vulcan gun was re mounted next to the base of the neck on the left side. The backpack was removed, and replaced with one belonging to an old Anaheim prototype from the late UC 00 periods, the RX-78 GP03 Gundam Stamen. The wing binders were also borrowed from that design; however they were mounted on the side of the thruster pods rather than on the skirt armor. For primary armament, the Blitzkrieg has a 90mm auto cannon, witch is capable of the same damages as the 90mm shot gun that the ‘179 had, but at much longer ranges. For secondary weapons, it is equipped with the beam assault rifle that the ‘179 uses. Mounted in the left and right fore arms under the beam shield emitters are two grappling launchers. The beam sabers were left in their hip mounts, and a beam bladed sword was added to the left hip to supplement the melee package. Mounted in between the two pods of the thruster unit was a long beam rifle, for sniping and long range bombardment.
Ensign Mitch Sarco dodged the shot from the Blitzkrieg prototype and jumped into the air. He brought up his E type’s 90mm machine gun, and fired at the Blitzkrieg, but all of his shots landed far behind it. He jetted around the building he had been in front of, and crouched down, waiting for Vale to come around the corner. Vale fired his grappling hook at the roof of the building the E type went around, and pulled himself to the top. On the way, he docked the auto cannon on his waist and drew his sword.
'Idiot' colonel Dagger thought as he saw the flash created by the drawing of vale's sword 'maybe not, he's not that dumb... is he?'
Sarco saw the glint above him and kicked on all of his thrusters, and brought his machine gun up, and began firing as the barrel cleared the roof. He realized too late that he had fallen into a trap, as Vale blasted his unit with the Vulcan gun. One of Ensign Sarco's shots got lucky and dug a trench through Vale’s left shoulder witch threw off his aim. Sarco carried on up into the air, and one of his squad mates charged in from the side.
Shiro Scratched his head and flecks of ice came off. He looked to his left and watched his girl friend Aina Saharin was brushing a thin layer of ice off of the arm of Kiki Rosita, the 16 year old gorilla warrior that Aina looked after rather like a big sister. Michel Ninorich, another member of the team sat at a table, trying to get a TV to work, with little success. Shiro and Aina turned in unison and watched another of their team mates, Eledore Massis sneak up to another team mate of theirs Karen Joshua. Karen’s red hair was coated in ice, just like her heart, or so thought members of the little team of mobile suit pilots. Eledore crept up to the capsule, and as he got near it, the door popped open and struck him on the chin. Eledore fell forwards, and his head landed in Karen’s Lap.
“PERVERT, GET OFF!” Karen screamed. She threw Eledore out of her capsule, and he landed in a heap on the floor.
“Master Sergeant Joshua, was that rely necessary?” A voice asked from across the room.
“Who the hell are you?” Karen asked,” And where the hell are we?”
“I will only speak to your commander for now… Lieutenant Shiro Amada if I am correct?”
“Ok, you can talk to me… but it will be in front of my team. Right now we’ve got no reason to trust you so… you’ll have to tell us all or tell no one.” Shiro said.
“Well Lieutenant… I talk to you, or I talk to no one. That’s how the game’s played. I know you won’t trust me just yet, buy you’ve gotta otherwise you’re gonna get put back into those chambers.”
“You’re right; we don’t have a reason to trust you. I’ll trust you, if I come back, you’ve got our trust. However… if I don’t, Karen’s in an awful bad mood, and she’d probably have fun kicking some butt for the first time in a couple hundred years.”
“That won’t be necessary. You will come back to your unit just fine. I’m going to give you a briefing, then you are going to brief your team. That’s all.”
“Fine, but remember, Karen’s in a bad mood and I honestly can’t predict what she’s gonna do when she’s in a bad mood, it’s usually not good for the enemy though.”
“I can see that, however I must ask for her patience, because this could take a little while because the situation is most complex.”
“Oh well… I’ve got time, and for your sake, my team’s gonna be patient too. That is an order by the way, not just a suggestion”
Shiro grinned to him self as he heard the grunts from his team, he knew that despite their outward frustration at his orders, if he was not back in a reasonable amount of time that they would come for him, and do so with practiced violence.
Staff Sergeant Maxwell blasted away with her machine gun, and cursed herself for missing and taking out another building. She adjusted her aim, when a lance of pink cut the Zaku in half. Maxwell cursed at Satsuma's third kill of the battle, and she'd not even had one yet. Already, every one of the team from Avian had been shot down, all except for Icarus, who had been fighting with out her left arm, because it got blown off in the beginning of the battle. Satsuma jumped down next to Maxwell and blocked a shot with his shield, but another destroyed his rifle, and blew off his right forearm. Maxwell pushed Satsuma down, and fired a burst over his head and cut down the Zaku guilty of destroying his arm. Satsuma stood back up, and slashed down a Zaku that had raised its heat hawk at Maxwell. Icarus burst through a building, trailing smoke and sparks from a huge chunk that was missing from her chest. Blackthorn and Shatters blasted a building with their dual 137mm cannons. Matthews jumped through the wreckage, followed soon by Blackthorn and Shatters. Blackthorn Pulled Icarus into the center of the group, and Shatters pushed Satsuma into the center of the group too. The remaining units turned outwards, and prepared them self’s for the next attack.
Vale cursed as status icons appeared all over his MFD, but when he realized that they were not his, he cursed even more. He roared, and charged an oncoming GM, but it cut his sword in half. The GM spun about, and hit him with its Machine gun, hitting him in the chest. Vale rewarded the pilot's skill by hurling his sword’s remnants through its cockpit. The GM hit the ground face down, the tip of it protruding out of its back, with oil and other fluids dripping off of it like blood. Ensign Sarco was enraged at the merciless killing of his last team mate and threw his rifle to the side. Sarco drew his beam sabers, and charged Vale and his Gundam. Vale drew his beam sabers, and charged at Sarco, their mobile suits colliding in a shower of sparks. Vale overpowered Sarco, and forced him to the ground, but Sarco recovered and charged again. Sarco's charge was cut short, by a burst of static across his screens and a message that read: "sim concluded" on his display. He sighed as the simulator's cockpit opened, but the applause that filled the cockpit surprised him.
"Ensign, you're promoted to Lieutenant, congrats, you passed the test." Colonel Dagger said
Vale depressed the toggle to unlock his mobile suit from the carrier rack, but the locks did not engage. Vale toggled the switch three times, vainly hoping it would work. Struggling to remain calm, he used a keypad to toggle through the different cameras to see if the umbilical cables were still attached. He slammed his fist into the console when he realized that the cables were intact and the connections were fine. Vale opened his cockpit to allow his radar intercept/ communications officer to board, which she did with practiced ease. Vale shut the hatch again, and diverted full power to the arms and legs to break the locks.
"Lieutenant! What the hell are you doing?" Dagger shouted," Wait for a few minutes and we'll unlock you!"
"Sorry colonel, no can do sir. My team's being overrun, and it's my responsibility to protect them! I will not wait for clearance; I'm going one way or another, if I have to shoot my way out of here!" Vale shouted in return.
"Stop! Don’t even think about trying to break those locks, you will ruin the frame!" A person in a lab coat shouted as he ran for the mobile suit.
"Hold it Lieutenant Reyewa!" A sergeant said as he grabbed Reyewa's shoulder." That's lieutenant Vale, he'll shoot the locks if he can't break them"
"Listen, the gears and motors are being torn apart!" Reyewa shouted, " Its gonna be destroyed stop him!"
"No Lieutenant, I will not do that, he's going to break free, and like the sergeant said, he'll shoot his way out if he has to!" Dagger said
"Great, that's just what we need to have happen, one way or another... what the!" The Lieutenant said as the leg locks snapped, and the mobile suit stood up, snapping the shoulder and arm locks on the way.
Vale smiled at his triumph, even though it was small. The door opened and a ground controller waved him out, wincing as the wing binders scraped through the door frame. The ground controller jumped into a truck and signaled Vale to follow him, witch he did with out question. The truck stopped next to a runway and the controller lined Vale up, and signaled him to stand by. A Stiletto class blockade runner screamed by him, cones of flame coming from its engines as the vessel's atmospheric engines switched to afterburner mode, sending the craft on its way very quickly. Vale looked down the runway at the control lights, but they were not lit up yet. He looked down at the controller, but he was still signaling stand by. Vale reached over and grabbed his radio headset and toggled it to intercom mode.
"Hey kid, call control and them what the bloody hold up is." Vale asked
"Right, hold on a sec," She said, adjusting the radio to the command frequency she said," Lansing Control, Mobile Suit Blitzkrieg, requesting permission to launch"
"Mobile Suit Blitzkrieg, Lansing control, hold short runway MS130" the controller replied
"Damn it kid... Lansing control, this is Vale, I’m holding short at MS130, I'm gonna launch in 30 seconds with or without your clearance!"
"Vale, this is Dagger, go kid; we've got a stiletto on the way up there to provide extraction that was the hold up." Dagger said
"Great, See ya around colonel, MS Blitzkrieg, moving out!"
Vale crouched the Gundam, activated the Minovsky Craft system and set the wing binders to the correct position. Once all systems reached green, the standby light on the control unit light up, and went out just as fast, switching to the amber light that told Vale the runway was clear, then the green light blinked on, and vale forced the throttle through its stops, opening up to full power, a shower of sparks following him as he dragged the catapult sled down the runway.
Shatters and Blackthorn fired in unison, collapsing a building, and creating more cover for their team. The cul-de-sac they were stuck all stuck in was filled with smoke and dust, making it near imposable for the Zeon to see what was going on. The Zeon countered the 16th's advantage by lining up Zakus and firing repeatedly into the smoke in the hopes of hitting something. When the fire stopped, The 16th fired back, cutting through the ranks of Zakus, and achieving little else, because the downed Zakus were replaced just as fast as they were shot down. The front ranks charged into the cul-de-sac after a barrage of crackers, covered by another withering barrage by the Zakus. Three Hyzacs and a Geara Doga broke through the lines of Zakus and started attacking the 16th MSAT, inflicting heavy damages. The Hyzacs, built for space operations, were cut down easily, but the Geara Doga, which was built for operations in both space and earth, stabbed Blackthorn with its beam bayonet. Blackthorn kneed the Geara Doga, crumpling its armor, and causing the pilot to jump back. The Geara Doga charged again, but a massive beam struck it in the chest. The Geara Doga's torso shrank into the beam, turning the unit into a pile of expensive slag. Two Gelgoogs, a Gouf and 3 platoons of Hyzacs entered combat, but were denied action when three mobile suit sized cluster bombs slammed into the group as they were assembling into their attack formations. The explosions of multiple bomblets ripped them to shreds, leaving only twisted and mangled wreckage. Four afterburners ignited off from no where, and the boom of an aircraft hitting supersonic speed echoed through the city. Another beam shot from nowhere arced out from space, slammed into the chest of a Zaku, atomizing it. The beam carried on, and carved a neat trench through the torso of another Zaku, and carried on down the street, eventually disappearing out over the ocean. Shatters opened fire on a distracted Zaku F2, the 120mm depleted uranium explosive cored shells dimpling its armor, then cutting through it, eventually exploding out the other side. Five mobile suits appeared in the sunset, shot off flares, and disappeared down on to the road, and raced by, followed by a Guntank II, racing in the direction of the airport. Maxwell caught on, and raced out of the cul-de-sac, her unit struggling to keep up with the other units. The column of mobile suits slid to a stop, as a stiletto landed in front of them, lowering its cargo ramp. As the ramp hit the ground, mobile suit carriers raced down the ramp, and picked up the slower moving units. Icarus was taken out of her cockpit, and her mobile suit's self destruct set, because it was just too damaged to save. Sympathetic detonations caused by the explosion of her suit's reactor arced across the city, setting most of it on fire. The stiletto flew over the city, flashing its lights in salute to the 30 Federation pilots killed in the ill fated defense of post 1121 and the city surrounding it.
Vale looked out of his cockpit, and watched as the captain welcomed the 16th MSAT to her ship, the Switchblade. Vale stayed in his cockpit after his team left, hoping that his sniper hadn't recognized him, but it was almost a lost cause, because he could see a fleck of paint missing off of a MS on the other side of a Sally Kai class's hanger. Fortunately Satsuma knew ops security, and would not question him about his identity until vale gave him the opportunity to do so. Vale hit the unlock button and his harness unlocked, but vale didn't move from his perch. His back seater climbed out over him, leaving him alone in the cockpit. Vale climbed out and headed for the commander's office
