SoulSister: Aww, it's nothing. So what if I have a couple chapters less? I'm just glad that you like this so much.
Rumi-Chan: You readers out there are obsessed with lemons, aren't you? Well, guess I'll have to find more place to plant them.
Platinum Rei: I'm relieved that all this kinkiness is going down well with you readers. Well, here's more for you! This time it comes in the form of awkwardness and mushiness, in amounts as large as Loch Ness. Oh, and did I mention corniness?
Shade25: Just goes to prove what I said earlier on. Oh well, as Xan said, raunchy reviewers.
~~~
Xan: *still in shock*
Kenny: Guess I was wrong...
Xan: Kenny? Wrong? *gasp* *shock*
Kenny: ... -_-"
Trueangel: Sigh... What kind of a madhouse did I start? Oh well, as least it won't be as bad as this chapter. So watch out.
Chapter 5 The Missing Member
Rei woke up to the sound of someone banging on the door. Opening his eyes, he suddenly realised the awkward position he was him. He quickly got off Kai and threw a blanket over his lover. Then, he hastily threw a few clothes on before answering the door. It was Lee.
"Oh, good morning, Lee."
"Morning, Rei. I was just wondering if you and Kai would like to join us for training. We're leaving soon."
"Leaving already? Why didn't you wake us up earlier?"
"I would have, but then I saw you and Kai sleeping so sweetly that I couldn't bear to."
"You saw... WHAT?"
"Well, at least I had the sense to lock doordoor so nobody else would see what I saw."
"You're not... upset or anything?"
"Why should I? Besides, Mariah's already told me everything."
"Everything? Fuck, I swear I'll..."
"Calm down. All she told me was that you were in love with Kai. She said that was all she knew. Is there supposed to be anything else?"
"Umm, no. Lee, I think we'll join you for training a bit later. You people go ahead."
"It's ok. I'm sure you and Kai have a lot to do."
Rei blushed, while Lee grinned at Rei's embarassment.
"Well, I'll leave you two in your own world. See you later."
=One month later, in Japan=
A navy haired boy shot up, awaking suddenly from a nightmare. Gory images of him getting killed by the person he loved still stuck vividly in his mind, as he raised a hand to wipe off the cold sweat that was covering his forehead. He looked at the clock beside his bed. It was only 2 a.m., it was still about 4 hours till sunrise.
But he couldn't get to sleep, not with the horrific images filling his mind. Blood, gore everywhere... and at the hands of the one he loved...
It's nothing, he told himself firmly. Just a stupid nightmare. It's not real... But it felt so real!
The boy turned to his right, searching for something that would give him comfort. But all he saw was a glaring emptiness.
Emptiness?
The boy screamed.
=Back in China=
Kai awoke to the sound of an incessant ringing sound. Rubbing the tiredness out of his eyes, he realised that it was his handphone. He turned to look at the clock. It was only 2 a.m.... (Remember time difference.) Who in the world would call him at 2 a.m.? But he knew ignoring it wouldn't make it go away, so reluctantly he got off the bed.
Kai turned back to look at Rei's sleeping frame. It had been a month since he arrived, and he had gotten used to waking up with Rei beside him, in Rei's house. Rei slept like an angel, his long hair cascading down his lithe body. He was oblivious to the riunging of Kai's handphone. Sighing, Kai walked over to the table at the other end of the room to pick up his phone.
"Hello Kai?"
Kai recognised a tinge of fear and anxiety in the caller's voice. Immediately he prepared for the worst.
"What's wrong, Tyson?"
"It's Max... he's disappeared."
"WHAT?"
Rei shot awake, startled by Kai's sudden shout. He didn't know what was happening, and looked at Kai with a concerned look.
"I'm really sorry, I-"
"How did it happen?"
"Max was staying over at my house for the weekend, since his parents had to return to America to settle some business. But just a few hours ago, I woke up from a nightmare, and found Max missing."
"I don't think he could have gone far."
"Yeah, my grandpa's already informed the police to organise a search party. He's informed Max's parents too."
"I hope you guys find him soon, I'm afraid that..."
"Kai, I'll talk to you another time, I need to talk to the police now. I'll fill you in later."
"Wait, Tyson! I..."
But it was too late, Tyson had already hung up. Kai cursed and slammed the phone on the table.
"What happened?" Rei asked, concerned.
"Max. He's missing."
"What? How did it happen?"
Kai told Rei everything Tyson had told him.
"I see... but what was it that you had to tell Tyson?"
"Umm..." Kai looked at Rei uncomfortably. "I'm afraid Volten might go after Max."
"But we don't know if Volten's really back. It could have been a coincidence or something. Moreover, it's been a month, and nothing's happened to suggest that Volten has returned."
"Well, we should still play safe. I hope they find Max soon."
"Yeah, me too."
"Ok, let's get some sleep for now. Tyson will call again later."
"Sure, I'm tired." Rei yawned as Kai clambered back into bed. Putting their arms around each other, they drifted back into sleep.
=At Training=
"Driger, Tiger Claw attack!"
"No way! Drifter, Repulse!"
Kai watched Rei's ferocious battle with Hui. Despite knowing he would probably lose, Rei had still insisted on battling Hui. Over the last few weeks, he had repeatedly developed new strategies to try and defeat Hui, and never gave up when Hui always emerged the victor. It was what Kai admired about Rei's spirit. His peserverance, his indomitable will, and his never-give-up attitude. Rei had insisted on many occasions that Kai help him train up his speed, and Kai readily obliged. Not only for the love between them, but also because a part of Kai wanted to see Rei defeat Hui. He would push Rei to his physical and mental limits, just so that they could realise their dream.
Speaking of their relationship, it was well known in the village now. Mariah had accidentally let it slip to her mother, and it spread like wildfire. For a period, nearly everyone was talking about Rei and Kai. Some of the villagers egavegave the couple weird stares all the time. At that time, the two of them were glad that they could train for the whole day on the mountains. But now, the topic had died down. The villagers had come to accept Rei and Kai. Some of them had even asked when they would be getting married.
Kai continued concentrating on the battle, and to his surprise, Rei seemed to be gaining the upper hand.
"Tiger Roar attack!"
Quite some time ago, Rei had found out that Driger's Tiger Roar attack was immune to Drifter's Repulse and Survival Anchor. This was because Drifter's weight gave it no defence against sound waves. However, Rei still had a long way to go from there, since Hui would usually beat Rei long before he could make use of the attack.
"Drifter, Titan Fist!"
"Driger, Tiger Claw!"
Kai stared intently. Rei had lured Hui into attacking. It was too late for Hui to switch to defending now. But even then, if the two beyblades collided, Hui would win since Drifter's weight gave it much more attacking power.
Suddenly, to everyone's surprise, Driger swung around the dish and attacked Drifter from behind. Kai's eyes widened in realisation of what Rei's strategy was. Driger slammed into Drifter, veering Hui's beyblade off its original path and knocking it out of control. Inertia. Rei was making use of inertia. Due to Drifter's heavy weight, it wasn't easy to change it's direction. However, Driger's Tiger Claw attack provided just enough force to do so. Moreover, Drifter was travelling in a similar direction as Driger, making Rei's job easier. Now, it would be difficult to for Hui to change Drifter's course again. Kai inueinued to watch as Drifter balanced precariously on the edge of the dish. It was staying in the game, but only barely.
"Driger, Tiger Roar!"
Rei's Driger send a powerful soundwave at Drifter, and it provided the final push needed to send Drifter flying out of the dish. Kai was stunned. After almost a month of intense strategising and training... Rei's efforts had finally paid off. Even Rei had an incredulous look on his face as Driger flew back into his hand. Hui smiled as he picked up his Drifter, as though he had been expecting to lose. But Kai didn't care, or even notice. All that mattered was that Rei had won. He ran over and hugged Rei tightly.
"You did it, Rei... finally..."
Rei was speechless. All he could do was return the hug as a tear rolled down his cheek. Finally, Kai stood back as the White Tigers swarmed Rei, congratulating him.
=Dinner=
"I still can't believe that I actually beat Hui!"
Rei and Kai were eating dinner in their own house. Kai had cooked a sumptous meal for Rei after he had won the battle with Hui. Rei didn't believe that Kai could cook at first. But now, he couldn't help but admit that Kai was a great cook.
"You deserve it," Kai said, as he put more food on Rei's plate. "You're the first one to actually defeat Hui."
"You defeated Hui right from the start, remember?"
"I was using Dreamer, so it doesn't count. That victory was Xan's. But you beat Hui with your own beyblade, with your own abilities."
Kai's phone started to ring. He took it out and looked at the screen.
"It's Tyson."
"Answer it."
"Hello."
"Hi, Kai."
"Tyson, any news ox yex yet?"
"As a matter of fact, yeah. That's exactly what I called you about. The police managed to track Max to the airport, via a taxi driver."
"And?"
"They managed to find out that he went to China."
"Here? Are you sure?"
"Yes. Apparently, there had originally been no more seats on the plane, but Max had made a huge fuss about it, so another passanger gave up his ticket to Max. That's how the airport staff remembered him so clearly. Listen, Kai, could I go over there to stay with you and Rei for a few days? The police are going over to China to search for Max, so I want to keep in touch with them, and at the same time keep an eye out for Max."
"But China's so big; how do you know where Max is?"
"He went to Guangzhou, Chi
"Here in Guangzhou? This is too much of a coincidence, Tyson."
"Perhaps. But I'm not going to give up until Max is found."
"I guess there's no changing your mind. When's the flight?"
"Thursday."
Kai glanced at the calendar. Thursday? That was in two days time.
"Fine. We'll be there to pick you up."
"Thanks. See you soon."
Kai hung up, then turned beck to Rei, who had a worried look on his face.
"Max's in Guangzhou?"
"Yes. And Tyson's coming."
