Chapter 5

Rim: I don’t have anything to say worth while. Well, besides that originally the first half of this chapter was original meant for chapter four, but I decided to make it a little more complete in the way I wrote it. And that chapter six is being written as we speak.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I wonder what it is,” Max said, sitting on the couch in the small waiting room in the BBA’s training facility. “Maybe he wants to show us some prototype blades they’ve been working on, wouldn’t that be cool?”
The room was furnished with one large sofa couch of a dark beige coloring to match the off whitish yellow paint coating the walls. Two smaller single seating arm chairs and a loveseat were the only other furniture in the room to sit on. The room was well lit by an overhanging light fixture. Also in the room stood a small bookshelf brought from a second hand story by the wear of faded covers.
Kenny looked up from his laptop, sitting across from where Max was sitting on the couch with Rei. Tyson and Kai were on the small loveseat. “Or maybe he recruited some new bladers I can gather data on. We haven’t had a good challenge in a long time.”
“A new challenge, that doesn’t sound bad,” Rei grinned. “I would definitely be up for some action, what about you Tyson?”
Tyson barely heard the words or registered they were directed at him until his name was called once gain. Looking up from where his eyes rested on the tile floor, he focused on the neko-jin that addressed him. He was so preoccupied with fear that his brain almost didn’t register the repeated words, causing Tyson to strain hard to focus on what the conversation was about.
“Sorry guys, I guess I was in a daze,” Tyson laughed a little, expressing any hint of cheeriness to be found in his broke soul. “I agree, it would be nice if we had another challenge, it’s been a while since we’ve been able to test our skills against anyone.”
“Are you okay Tyson?” Rei inquired with a frown, his cat like eyes studying Tyson for a minute. “You’re pale, are you coming down with something.”
‘No, of course not, it’s just that when I get home tonight, nobody will see me for weeks because my masochistic boyfriend is going to make sure that when I go unconscious from being beat, that I’ll stay like that for a couple of days so he won’t have to deal with my stupid ass.’ Tyson thought but did not say because for one: he wasn’t crazy enough to get beat where he sat while his three friends tried to pull a psychotic Kai Hiwatari from on top of him, and second because he was too much of a coward to announce the years of abuse at the hands of his lover to everyone in the room. So instead, he made another remark more suitable for the moment and his health.
“I’ll be fine I guess I am feeling a bit under the weather. But it’s nothing to worry about I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night that’s all.” Oh the bitter irony within that statement, because no one but Kai knew that it had a double meaning towards it. The others would think that he and Kai were up doing things couples do, but both knew the real reason Tyson hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before. Even while Tyson was saying it, he could feel the heated glare on his body, with a warning glare.
“You should take care of yourself Tyson,” Max said. “I doubt Kai wants to worry himself to death about whether or not you’re eating enough. Your health is the most important thing you need to take care of.”
‘I doubt if you knew the truth, you would say that. My health…it’s only a matter of time I die because I don’t have any safety to live.’ If they knew the truth about the color of his soul now, they would change the tune of the song immediately. If they saw Kai’s favorite colors to turn Tyson’s body; the pattern of black, purple, blue, and red remaining consistent over the years. It was a never ending imbalance of sanity and insanity that twirled him around until he lost his stepping.
“Sometimes I don’t know what Kai does with you,” Rei shakes his head from side to side, his golden eyes fixing on Kai who smirked slightly. He was the perfect actor, always the cool, witty person everyone was familiar with. Teasing Tyson with carefree remarks or exhibiting signs of intimacy. That was until the doors to the outside world closed and Kai was a force to fear, a menacing shadow which loomed overhead, bringing omniscient signs in its wake.
‘Easy, he beats it out of me.’ Tyson thought, looking across the room at something else. What the Bladebreakers didn’t realize as they sat in the room awaiting Mr. Dickenson and his big surprise, the boys didn’t notice circular lens of the camera in the wall that brought feedback to the security room where Mr. Dickenson currently stood with the Demolition Boys.
“They look pretty much the same since last we saw them,” Ian commented, his red eyes going over each of the Bladebreakers slowly.
“That’s true, nothing really has seemed to change,” Bryan agreed. “What do you think Tala?” He intended to catch his friend blushing like a virgin schoolgirl, but instead he caught the frown which furled Tala’s brows together. “Tala, you okay?”
“Huh were you saying something?” Tala looked up from his thoughts, turning his eyes away from the monitors to stare at Bryan.
“I asked you if you think they’ve changed much since the last time we faced them,” Bryan stated, wondering what could be on his friend’s mind.
“Oh. No not really,” Tala said, turning his eyes back on the monitors to watch the scene before him. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but there was something different. Narrowing his eyes, he continued to stare at each one of them. They seemed pretty much the same; they laughed, joked, and talked pretty much the same, but there was definitely something array. Tala’s eyes swept over the group until his eyes rested back on Kai and Tyson.
So…they were together it seemed. Tala’s heart did a bit of sinking until he figured out what was wrong with the scene. The red haired Russian realized it was the way Tyson was behaving, the other Bladebreakers couldn’t see it because they were around him, but for someone looking on the outside looking in, it was plain as day. The way Tyson was acting, it didn’t seemed like the cheerful teen that he last saw. Tyson now seemed like he feared something, or maybe someone. Every now and then he would fidget in his seat beside Kai, his wide blue eyes shifting from the ground to Kai. Tala caught Kai glare at Tyson once or twice, swearing that Tyson paled where he sat.
“Hey, Earth to Tala,” Bryan snapped his fingers in front of Tala to get the red head’s attention. “You in there, you’ve been staring at the screen so intently I worry you’re going to burn a hole in the monitor.”
“Sorry, I was just looking,” Tala remarked. Tala watched that familiar smirk curl the corners of Bryan’s lips as he leaned over to whisper into Tala’s ear.
“At Tyson huh, having a good time?”
“There’s something up,” Tala said softly.
“What?” Bryan stared at his friend who continued to frown, staring at the monitor. “What’s wrong, Tala?”
“I don’t know.” He didn’t want to discuss things right now while he was unsure of what he was seeing. Maybe it was just his imagination, maybe the two had a fight earlier, and what Tala was seeing was just a result of it. “I’m sure it’s nothing really, probably just my imagination.”
“Are you sure, Tala?” Bryan inquired.
“Yeah, I’m positive, let’s get going, it’s going to be nice to see them all again,” Tala smiled, moving away from Bryan to nod at Mr. Dickenson. “I think we’re ready to get going, we’ve seen enough?”
“All right then, I think they will be very surprised to see you,” Mr. Dickenson smiled as he led the Demolition Boys from the security room to head towards an elevator which would take them to the room where the Bladebreakers were waiting. On the way down, Tala couldn’t help but wonder if it was really his imagination playing on his mind.
~~~~~~~~~

“Hello boys,” Mr. Dickenson said with his usual cheery smile as he entered the waiting room where the five boys of the Bladebreakers’ squad sat. The chatter from the five young men abruptly stopped when the owner of the B.B.A walked into the room.

“Mr. Dickenson, so what’s up? What’s the big announcement that you had to let us know?” Max said, literally bouncing up and down in his chair. “Are we getting new blades or new competition?”

“Hurry up and tell Max before he’s likely to bounce himself out of that chair and onto the floor,” Rei laughed, watching the blonde. Everyone was curious as to what Mr. Dickenson had to say, even Tyson who was still panicking because he knew he wasn’t going to escape whatever Kai had planned for him later that night. Maybe what Mr. Dickenson was going to say would be a distraction for what came later.

The older man looked at each of the boys. “I suppose the best way to explain the surprise is by showing you.” Turning to the door behind him, he nodded his head in that direction. “I think they’re ready to see now.”

“Who are you talking—?” Rei’s sentence fell short when he saw the four familiar guys walk into the room. “Tala…Bryan…Spencer…and Ian?”

“They’re your surprise?” Max blinked.

“We thought since we were finally free from Boris’s control, we would check up on our number one rivals to see have you been slacking your asses off. You can call us new competition if you like,” Bryan said with smile.

“This is completely unexpected. But it’s good to see you guys,” Rei chimed. “Right, guys?”

“Yeah,” Max nodded. “Congrats on freeing your wings from the caged you’ve been trapped in your entire lives.”

“We should hold a celebration for them,” Kenny suggested.

“Not a bad idea, Chief,” Rei smiled. “They certainly deserve it for all the hardships that their lives have built for so long.”

“Kai, Tyson, you two have yet to comment yet,” Mr. Dickenson said, turning his attentions on the two on the couch.

“I wouldn’t have expected Kai to have much to say in the ways of commenting, that’s always been his way,” Tala teased a little, expecting the other to make a comeback remark, when the dual haired male didn’t Tala was surprised. In the years since they last saw each other, Kai had changed more. When Kai came back to Russia those long years ago, Tala could first see it, but then another change which had to do with his associations with the Bladebreakers. Now…Kai had changed again. This time, it was something entirely different than before.

No longer did Kai’s eyes give off any sort of warmth of friendly feeling to them, the others probably saw a façade of the emotions, but Tala saw pass it. They had known each other for two long for that sort of thing to escape Tala’s attention. In fact, Kai’s eyes were downright cold and hostile. Could it be from losing his grandfather and some unresolved feelings towards it? Or had all the years of abuse finally caught up to the dual haired male?

“Nice to see you again,” Kai finally replied, turning his cold eyes on Tala and looking him over. “It seems you haven’t changed much in the last few years.”

“I hope there’s not a lot that’s changed about me,” Tala grinned, ignoring the emotionless reply from his friend, and turned his eyes on this blue haired past crush. Maybe he could still consider that he had feelings for Tyson, but learning that he was with Kai would have to null those things down. Going over the bluenette, he could only see fear where the smiles should have been. “Hello Tyson, how are you?”

“Tala…hi,” Tyson said, trying to smile, but he couldn’t. Lowering his eyes from the red head, he tried to find himself. Now and days it was getting harder and harder to reach down into his broken soul and dig out a chunk of his humanity that hadn’t yet died or withered up. “I’m happy that you can go where you want to now, congrats.”

“Thank you Tyson.”

“Come on guys, let’s see what we can do to show them a great time and the real meaning of the word celebration,” Max, always bubbly and cheerful said, jumping up out of his seat.

“All right then, I’m with Max, what about you guys, Chief, Tyson, Kai?” Rei turned his attention to the other members of the Bladebreakers’ squad.

“Hn.” This was all he said on the subject.

“Okay, we’ll forget about Kai, what about the rest of you guys?” Max said.

“I’m all for it,” Kenny said with a nod.

“What about you Tyson?” Max said.

“Oh…yeah, it’s a wicked idea,” Tyson said, trying to put on his bed smile.

Tala narrowed his eyes, he could see through it all. Through the smiles which were no longer pure and innocent, they had some time ago vanished from his face. He couldn’t find the sparkle in those half dead eyes voided of any light; he didn’t feel the spontaneous energy which first seduced him. A shell of the former angel remained in place, mimicking from memories of that person Tala once knew.

Tala doubted more than ever that Tyson’s friends could see these changes that he picked up on. Even down to the fact that in the past few years, Tyson had lost a considerable amount of weight. Not that it was a big deal, but it was unnatural, seeing as the last time he saw Tyson, the bluenette still had a huge food lust. He was really beginning to worry that what he thought was just his imagination was more than that…much more.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Tala stood on the side of the large circular room, his eyes always on Tyson who was quietly sipping on a cup of one of the alcohol beverages currently provided at the party Mr. Dickenson strung together for the Demolition Boys. Tyson was standing by Kai, watching the others on the dance floor acting like complete idiots after a few cups of alcohol.
Rei was dancing, or trying to dance while laughing at the antics occurring. Max was egging on Kenny and Ian who was dirt drunk and singing they were too sexy for random amounts of things. Spencer and Bryan were watching the amusing scene, both laughing just about as hard as Rei was. Tala felt a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, keeping his eyes on the small group before shifting his gaze to where Tyson and Kai were.
He found Kai leaning over to whisper something into Tyson’s ear that made the bluenette causing him to tense up. Focusing his eyes on the two, Tala pushed himself away from the wall to walk over to where they stood. He immediately found Kai’s fiery eyes on him with each step he took. Tala did his best to put on a perfect clueless smile, but he knew that Kai would read right through it due to his time spent at the abbey for all those years. He just hoped that he going to cause enough of distraction for Kai to leave Tyson alone.
“And why aren’t you two lovely individuals out on the dance floor? Don’t tell me you still have no rhythm, Kai,” Tala teased.
“And I could say the same for you Ivanov,” Kai stated in a slight retort.
“Hey, that’s not true,” Tala grinned. “I just don’t have a dancing partner, so…” Trailing off, Tala turned his eyes to Tyson with a grin. “I came to see if Tyson wouldn’t mind sharing a dance with me.”
Tyson lifted wide blue eyes up to Tala, controlling his hands from shaking and spilling the drink in his hands. He couldn’t show Tala just how afraid he was, but what he didn’t know was that Tala could see his eyes, eyes that pained the red head to see because of the fear them. Something serious was not right between them. Kai wouldn’t be so jealous to do something to Tyson…would he?
“I-I-I have two left feet,” Tyson stammered. If he accepted Tala’s offer, Kai may hurt him worst later that night. Tyson under normal circumstances would not have minded, at a small time before hooking up with Kai, Tyson did have a thing for the red haired Russian captain of the Demolition Boys.
There were more than one or two times he thought about Tala on that sort of level which led to him touching himself in bed late at nights when no one was around. He remembered moaning Tala’s name into his pillow, imaging the other over him, taking him to a plain of pleasure far above heaven each time. But now…now those were the sort of thoughts which endangered his life. If Kai were ever to find out something like that, regardless of those feelings dying, he would kill Tyson for them.
Rim: Yes! I am bold enough to leave you with a cliffhanger! And I’m not afraid to say that I will update between this weekend and next week either. So, then, you can hunt me down and try to kill me.
