4-a (teaser)
The Seventh Gate
A/N: aaaaahhhh….. The long part. The lemon. *grins* The grand finale of this story that was written with blood sweat and screams on the part of my fickle muses. A special thank you to all of the reviewers who goaded into action that notoriously lazy thing that makes me write. Now on to the personal responses.
Falcon: I’ll try to have Vengeance done within the week. No promises since I’d hate to not fulfill but I’ll try. :):) Thank you so much for the compliments and encouragement!!
Part Four
The new moon.
Duo watched the darkness rise on the eastern horizon. The stars seemed somehow darker tonight and it was almost as if the earth knew what was coming. The silence in itself was deafening. No birds chirped in the half-light of dusk, no crickets sang or frogs croaked. There was a predator about to be unleashed into their midst and all of nature knew it. Unnaturally colored eyes gleamed in the shadows and there was a flash of sharp fangs when Duo smiled. Tonight he would finally be set free.

The gods of Light, Wind, and Fire stood just beyond the entrance to the First Gate. The agitated little blond god fidgeted nervously.
“Where is he?” He inquired after his conspicuously absent lover.
A hard hot wind blew across the three gathered at the entrance to the mortal world, showing just how on edge the God of Wind and his lover were as well. “I don’t know. We can’t wait for him any longer. Duo must be stopped and if we have to do it without Trowa then we will.”
“But we can’t restore the seal without Trowa!”
“Enough. It must be done. Come, it is time.”

“He is different, isn’t he Duo?” The voice came from both within him and all around him, whispering over his flesh like a cool blade of grass.
Duo snarled. “He is not.”
“You won’t be able to kill him you know.” *mocking laughter*
“Shut up. He will die just like all the rest.” Duo hissed. Somehow though that thought brought a wrenching pull to his heart and Shinigami felt his breath lock in his chest.
“Remember Duo… remember how gentle he is with you. How he sat with you in the bath, and read with you, and laughed with you. Can you remember his sweetness when he slept? That look of abandoned passion when he screamed your name as he came for you? Think of it. How nice it would be to have him with you for the rest of eternity, ne?”
“NO! He will die just like all the rest of those useless mortals.” Duo spat las last word like a curse, though he was beginning to sound just a little panicked.
“Can you really take him Duo? Watch him cry out for you and then kill him?” Duo blanched. “I didn’t think so.” More contemptuous laughter faded out as though it came from a great distance.
“He will die. He must.”
Emerald eyes watched from the foliage. *Not this time Duo. You can’t kill him again.*
