“Major Elric. How are you today?” The light, cheery voice of Warrant Falman reached my ears and made me jump. I supposed I looked mighty crazy at the Xerox and shredder machine, cramming Kimblee's letter and hoping that the machine would'nt cut off in mid shred.

Of course, you know it did.

“Need a little help there?” Falman asked, coming around side of me.

“Umm, no!” I shrieked, nearly knocking the machine over. I snatched the paper from the copy machine and wadded it up, shoving it in my jacket. I laughed nervously and backed away from the salt and pepper haired warrant officer and ran down the hall away from him. It wasn't my intention to be rude, but it also wasn't my intention to be caught.

'Why don't I look where I'm going?'

The next thing I knew I was flat on my ass AGAIN in the hallway, this time peering up at none other than the Flame Alchemist, Roy Mustang, the feared, the revered, the hated, the loved. I nearly shit my pants.

“Why are you always running like a chicken with it's head cut off? I'm surprised that you had that much energy to move so fast,” he drawled, gazing me over. He offered me a hand to help me up, but I was frozen in place.

'Wait...why...why...'

“Why are you here?” I snapped, not really meaning to sound as harsh as I did. Roy's eyes darkened and he retracted his outstretched hand and placed it on his hip.

“I recieved a call from Haruko earlier today and we have a meeting. He had actually called while I was dropping you off, so I didn't recieve the message until I got back home. Now give me an allowance.”

I'm sure that I looked bewildered. “Huh?”

Roy smirked. “Obviously since you think you can ask me questions like 'why am I here' and tell me what my curfew is, it seems apparent to me that your name must be Glenn Mustang, and that you are at least twenty grand in child support arrears. So dad,” Roy stressed, “Can I borrow the car?”

I stared at him wide-eyed, and suddenly I felt angry. Despite also growing up with no father, Roy's life had been relatively easy before he joined the military, and even most of the time he wasn't as stressed as he claimed to be. So care free...and it made me extremely heated.

“Is everything a goddamn joke to you?” I snapped, hopping up to my feet. I turned to walk away, but a strong hand grabbed my metal arm and flung me into the nearest office. I landed on the side of the conference table only to be grabbed again and pressed up against the wall by my throat.

'Brings back old memories of how we started...'

Roy's eyes were so dark, they could have easily matched his hair. His sharp nose pressed right against mine and I could feel the heat from his body. It was strangely erotic. Being close to Roy always turned me on, even if my life was in danger. Roy glared at me, and I literally saw fire in his eyes.

“I don't know what your problem has been these past few days, nor do I care anymore. In fact...” He hesitated and trailed off, “Go stay with Al and Klause for awhile. I think we both need the space.”

Roy released me and backed away, adjusting his uniform, and then smoothing down his hair. I could see the pain in his eyes, and believe me, a few well placed kisses and sweet nothings could have cleared this situation up right away. But instead of doing what I wanted

'Which was wrapping my arms around him and giving his beautiful mouth a lingering kiss...'

I nodded my head silently, too numb for any other expression. Roy stood there looking at me in a moment of weakness, showing me that he wanted me to contest what he said, yell, cry, something, but I couldn't. His face contorted in an ugly expression as he sighed angrily and walked out of the conference room, shutting the door. I waited until I heard his boots click away before sliding to the ground, sobbing in the fetal position.

I stayed there for an extremely long time.
***************************

It was late afternoon by the time I had gotten my wits about me. I had a locker down in the barracks full of clothes that I could take over to Al and Klause's, along with some clothes I already had there. Strangely enough, Klause and I could wear the same clothes, although her pants were too long and she used my pants as capris.

'Stop laughing, I can't help my vertical deficiency!!!'

I sullenly walked through the corridors of Central, barely noticing anyone who passed by me. Havoc waved at me from afar and I waved back, but didn't stop for conversation. Luckily, he didn't come after me. He could be annoying at times, even though he means well. Al and Klause didn't live far away, but after making a brief phone call to update them on my situation, Klause insisted to come and get me, and just to be waiting outside with my bag. As I walked through the huge double doors, the orange-red glare of the sun hit my eyes and by the time I adjusted to the light and looked around, I noticed Roy was at the bottom steps, staring up at me. My heart skipped a beat as my eyes met his.

“Edward, come here, please.”

Roy's voice sounded monotone and even, and sort of sad. I ambled down the steps with my bag and faced him, trying to seem taller than I was. I noticed he wasn't wearing his military uniform, but a white wife beater tank and fatigue pants with black boots. He also looked very pale, his dark features making him look even whiter.

Roy's eyes betrayed his voice. They were watery and red rimmed, and his voice sounded hoarse. “Did you call Al?”

I nodded.

“Is he going to let you stay there?”

I nodded again, not quite prepared for words. Roy shuffled uncomfortably.

“Do you need anything like money or anything?”

I shook my head.

“Stick out your hand.”

I gave him my metal hand; when Winry used to ask me to stick out my hand she'd try to amputate it. I learned quickly to give out the metal hand first.

Roy briefly smiled and took my flesh hand instead and placed several pieces of paper in it. Upon inspection I realized Roy had given me a substancial amount of money.

'Enough to get to Drachma...'

I looked at him and he smiled weakly and started to step away. “You never are honest about having money, and I'm sure you and Klause will just waste it. Anyway...um...” Roy fidgeted again, looking uncharacteristically ackward. Part of me wanted to drop my bag and embrace him lovingly, to take him to some secluded place to love him, hide him, be with him.

I was surprised when he stepped back to me and circled his strong arms around me. The bare skin of his left shoulder was pressed against my lips, and I puckered them to kiss his arm, just being able to kiss part of him was enough. Roy tilted his face slightly and his lips met mine in a soft, warm kiss. Roy's kisses always start slow, and then gradually demand more, even when there was no more to give. This kiss was different, though. He was kissing me as if he knew what I was going through, and as if he knew I needed to be held and handled tenderly. The kiss had no tongue invasion, no lip biting or bruising, just calm, slow movements with soft lips. I felt Roy's tongue brush a thin wet line over my lips before stepping away from me. The look in his eyes was begging me to come home with him, but I couldn't. I could never go back to him as long as Izumi was threatening what we had. I would never bring evil to his home again.

I brushed my flesh fingers past his face and he closed his eyes and leaned into my touch as always, bringing his shoulder up and trapping my hand between shoulder and cheek and moving his head back and forth, almost the way Black Hayate does when you scratch behind his ears.Roy opened his eyes and kissed my hand faintly. “Edward, tell me what's going on.”

I opened my mouth to come clean, to explain the situation when Klause pulled up in her Eclipse Spyder. She lowered the window and her blue tinted sunglasses and glared evilly at Roy, making him smirk at her. Roy and Klause always got along, definitely better than Roy and Winry. Then again, Roy wasn't forced to kill Klause's parents though.

Klause got out of the car and came around to where I and Roy were and outstretched her hand. “How have you been, R?” She asked, trying to stay as neutral as possible. Roy shrugged and smiled at her, giving her a brief hug and tousled her hair. Klause looked annoyed and picked my bag off the ground. “You ready, bud?” She asked, pushing her sunglasses back up on her nose. She patted Roy's arm and took my hand, literally dragging me away from Roy and shoving me into the car. The look on his face was that of a broken China doll, discarded and forgotten. He shrugged slightly and walked over to the car and knocked on my window.

“I'm sorry for whatever I did to you, Edward.”

I shook my head. “This time, it wasn't you, baby.” Roy squatted by Klause's car and folded his arms in my now rolled down window. “Then what is it? You can tell me anything, you know.”

Klause nudged me. I looked at her and she nodded her head towards Roy and frowned. I shook my head at her and turned toward Roy and sighed. “I will tell you, but not now. I can't..” I turned away, my shame growing. Roy nodded and stood.

“I understand, but before you go, Edward, I have something for you.” He pulled a box from his pocket and handed it to me. I turned back toward him and gave him a warning look and when I opened the box, Klause squealed and nearly broke my neck.

Inside was a beautiful marquis cut diamond surrounded by topaz and peridot. I looked at Roy, my lip quivering. Why, of all times would he do this now???

“I was waiting for the perfect time...and I still will be. The offer won't be taken off the table anytime soon.” Roy gave me a faint smile and reached inside the car and took the box out of my hand and gave me a kiss on the cheek before turning and walking away. I sat looking at my hands, numb. I didn't realize I was at Al and Klause's until Al was carrying me upstairs into the house and laying me on the couch. My silent haze concluded with me falling asleep on the couch. My mind was trying to wrap around the events of the day, and also the 72 hour deadline I had to get to Drachma and settle things with Izumi once and for all.

A/N: This chapter did not go as planned. I may revise it. I ran out of fresh lemons, also out of spinach due to the e-coli break out. I'll return again soon, sorry to ruin your weekend. ~D~
