Scene Seven
En's mind darted back to reality, it had been so long since she had allowed herself to reminisce that particular part of her life, after all, she did fight very hard to get to where she was today, so backtracking was one of the most unproductive and retroactive activity anyone she could do. She questioned in her mind whether she should continue with the musing as she lightly bit her left thumb with the nail being ground against by her enclosing teeth.
I'm a lot stronger now, I can beat any of these bastards if they dare to question me.
Yet at the same time, there was a part of her that would never forget how terrified she was at the time.
She froze and stared at them like a mouse who stumbled into a back alley full of feral cats.
The entire room, filled with Saiyans of differing armours and sizes, some lithe and some muscular, some tall and some stocky, most looked back at her with a slight air of curiosity, a few of them with contempt. All of them, living, breathing beings, with the potential to crack her skull or snap her into two if they wished to do so, just staring back at her. En regretted horribly that she threw away her only weapon at the time, and out of dread she did not notice that she has unconsciously loosened her tail and that it was whipping aggressively up and down behind her. Unfortunately, it was a bad move at the time, one of them saw it as a challenge, rather than a display of fear.
A male teenage third class warrior walked up to her with a sick smile on his face. Before she knew what was happening, with his left index and third fingers, he fired an energy blast just centimetres away from her right foot, she jolted up in the air out of fright. Before she could contemplate her next move another energy blast was shot towards her in midair, missing her left ear but managed to singe a few strands of her hair. Waves of callous laughter begin to bounce around the room, En could not do anything but avoid whatever she could at the time, she could not even think ahead to plan out a strategy. Out of desperation, she turned around and wanted to exit where she came from. She dashed to the front of the door, which to her horror, was already open, and looked up.
Him.
Holding the syringe lightly in his right hand, En could not tell what kind of emotion he had at the time.
"Haahahaha!" The maniacal youth shot an even bigger energy blast towards her.
Before En could utter a shriek of dread, she felt her tiny frame being scooped up by his strong left arm as he whipped around to the left, letting his back take the impact of the blast, then back to the front again, throwing the syringe with the needle facing away from him, all in one swift movement.
"Aaaahhh!!" Shrieked the youth, immediately crouching down as he clutched his left hand, which was now bleeding profusely from the offending syringe, the impact was so great that the needle protruded through his palm. He was now rolling across the floor and howling out his pain like an injured coyote, only to be kicked into the air with one swift kick from the man who was still holding En, who was still confused and dumbfounded at the current situation. When the youth plummeted to the floor, the man put her down, looked her in the eye and said to her. "Stay. Don't go anywhere, you understand?" En looked into his eyes in bewilderment, before she could collect any train of thoughts, her subconscious went ahead of her final assessment and she nodded. The man walked up towards the youth who was now curling into a ball from the newly added pain in the stomach and yanked him upwards with his left hand, forcing him to stand up.
"What's the matter? Not so tough now are you?" He asked rhetorically as he packed a powerful punch with his right fist, making contact with his cowering opponent's stomach, knocking out a lungful of air. Without giving the youth a chance to recuperate his breathing, he continuously packed powerful punches to the same area before grabbing his opponent by the collar of his armour and toss him into the crowd effortlessly like tossing a rag doll. It was not until the youth plummeted once again onto the floor that En had finally noticed how quiet the crowd became since that man has made his entrance. Without thinking she hid behind him, but scared of being in contact with him at the same time.
"How dare you injure one of my men!" Roared a menacing voice.
Upon hearing it En shrunk, if she were to shrink even further she'd be a ball on the floor. She then felt the man pick her up by the waist and before she knew it she was hoisted onto his muscular left arm and sitting on it like a cat. It was amazing to see how far she could see at a different height, the Saiyans' eyes were pretty much give or take at level with hers. She could then see a large, bulky, heavily bearded Saiyan man emerging from the crowd, approaching them with a menacing look. She could see the bearded man eyeing the pathetic youth with a look that was a mixture of anger and disgust before barking again.
"You really ought to teach your men some respect, Mema." Answered the man, from the corner of En's eyes she could see a fearless smirk on his face.
"What's the deal Bardock, we were j'st having a bit o' fun! You're out of bound!" Roared Mema, his crazed eyes emitting malice, his saliva splattering everywhere as he spluttered, wetting his thick, bushy beard.
"It is you who is out of bound, Purika here just messed with the wrong guy."
"What?! She doesn't belong to you!"
"She does now."
This time En looked up with her eyes wider than ever. He did not make any eye contact with her, but continued to speak.
"You see this here?" He smirked as he pointed to his left cheek with his right index finger.
"Y'eh? So?!"
"She did this to me."
"Huh?"
There was a wave of gasps from across the room followed by suppressed muttering in disbelief.
"Little brat here was stupid enough to eat a poisonous centipede but somehow managed to scar my face, now that's something that none of you punks' ever done." Bardock continued to smirk, before making a fist with his right hand and holding it up to his face.
"Just imagine how strong she'll be if I could have her on my team, so from now on, any of you who mess with her messes with me." He spoke confidently, there was even a spark of enthusiasm in his voice.
The crowd looked at him for a moment, before one of them asked.
"Centipede? Where did you pick up this ragamuffin?"
"I found her outside the morgue."
The entire room full of Saiyans erupted with laughter.
"Ha! Bardock picked up a morgue rat!"
"Watch out, her bite could get you infected!"
"At least she didn't scratch you!"
"Careful she could be carrying diseases!"
"I bet her snatch smells like a corpse too!"
"Don't let her sleep on your bed, I bet she carries termites!"
Sensing the change in the air, En didn't realised that she was clutching onto Bardocks' green armour strap until she accidentally brushed across his warm, exposed collarbone. Looking back, that was the first time she felt herself blush, it was a good thing that she was facing away from both him and the crowd at the time. At the same time, Bardock was gritting his teeth and with his eyes narrowed, leering across the room.
The door opened behind them, hearing the sound, Bardock turned around, with the jeering behind him continued on.
"Oi! Shut up you guys it's hard to hear in here!" Yelled Seripa, her hands on each side of her waist, accompanying her was the lizard doctor who was with them before, he had a perplexing look on his face.
When the noise has settled, Bardock handed a confused En over to Seripa like a parcel and spoke gruffly. "Here, this is the kid I was talking about, break her in will you?" He then exited through the door without waiting for Seripa to reply.
En recalled back that Seripa was one of the most beautiful Saiyans that she has ever seen, but at that time, she was too shocked from all the physical handling by yet another stranger, of all her short life time at the time, all on the same day. En closed her eyes and tried to think very hard, what did I remember at that time? Oh wait.
"Pff! I'm ditching this party!" Seripa held En up with two hands like handling a wooden puppet and turned around about to exit.
"Where do you think you're going?! You think you can get away with this?!" Growled Mema.
En could remember Seripa turned back almost immediately and barked back.
"Fuck up Mema! Purika got what he deserved! So shut your trap and shove it!"
En could not recall what happened to the room full of Saiyans as Seripa re-exited impatiently with the lizard doctor. She did recall being constantly held up high by her as she walked, and was too scared to try and look at her in the eyes, being at such a close distance. At that time, the desire to escape seemed to have vanished, the current situation seemed to promise more safety than being left back at that room full of barbarians. She was not happy to hear what was discussed of her during the seemingly never ending walk in the hallway.
"You know Dr. Malaka, there are times I seriously don't get Bardock. All that fuss for this sandy little urchin?" Spoke Seripa.
"Well you know what he's like, he's fascinated by whoever can land a punch on him, let alone with energy blasts. To be honest, he is a more of a fighter than a trooper." Replied Dr. Malak.
"I think it's just just a fluke that this little fur ball here managed to do anything, at such a close range and all, I mean her power level is just pathetic." She spoke as she held En out with one hand while checking her power level with her scouter with the other hand.
"Now now, you do realise that he's still at a loss from that teammate you guys lost from missions ago?"
"Yeah we all miss Kabo, Bardock is just going crazy from missing a sparring partner, I mean this is someone who doesn't even remember having a son."
"Oh yes, Radditz is his name right? Wasn't he born a few years ago?"
"And you know what the funny thing is? Bardock doesn't even remember who he slept with that night, he just remembered the part when he had to battle it out with some other guy before he won that battle in oozaru form, I swear that guy is battle obsessed, I mean we're Saiyans but come on!"
"So you think that he thinks that he can train this one up to replace Kabo?"
"Exactly! You would not believe the amount of times Toma and I had to pull him away from all these fights he got into even before we have to report back to the stations for missions. Uhh, it would be hard to replace Kabo, of all people why this little shrimp?"
"Now now Seripa, you were once a junior trooper too, you remember what it was like right?"
"Yeah, they pretty much threw us on to the frontlines, whoever didn't die that day get to live another day, and if you're lucky, you level up. But a morgue urchin? What the Hell was he thinking? I bet this thing can't even kill a rat! Ugh and it smells awful too! I've been in dumpsters that smell like gardens comparing to this little stink bug!"
"Haha, I'm sure you know what to do, well this is my office, feel free to drop by any time soon." Said Dr. Malaka cheerfully as he entered his office.
"Hn." Pouted Seripa.
En could not understand why she was being held like a parcel still, the only reason she could comprehend was that maybe they still did not trust her and think that she would only try to escape again, but to where? The more she thought about it, the idea of returning to the morgue did not seem plausibly appealing, let alone back to the abandoned sand hutt squirming with scums of the sub-class society. Although listening to the conversation made her very uncomfortable, the idea of a new life begin to sink in, the more it did, the more it tugged at the corner of her lips. That was the first time that En remembered smiling.
"What is with this kid?" Mumbled Seripa as she looked down at En's silly grin.
"You'd better remember to do your part Bardock, I will not be held responsible for picking up the pieces." She spoke out loud as she continuously walked on.
