Crystallis

Summary: Kai follows Rei back to China, but they are closer to Crystallis than they expect. They encounter an enigmatic villager who will change their relationship. Meanwhile, Volten returns closer to Kai than ever before, and the Bladebreakers will reunite in a final bid to save their lives and save Max. Kai/Rei lemon in 1st chapter!!! Sequel to "Angel and Devil".

Rei & Kai: Hold on, we're busy in the closet.

Trueangel: AAH!!! Kenny, get to work!

Kenny: ... *summons De-hentai-ist, who pulls out a hammer to smash the closet... revealing Rei & Kai*

Trueangel: *stares at Rei & Kai* You know, I think I should add in a censoring move...

Chapter 7 The Return of the Tiger

"Dranzer, Fire Arrows!"

"Dragoon, Storm Attack!"

It was almost the evening now, and the White Tigers had returned to the village, but Kai, Rei, Tyson and Hui were still training. Right now, Tyson was battling his former team captain, and it seemed like he was gaining the upper hand.

"Dranzer, Flamethrower!"

Kai's beyblade swerved around the edge of the dish and headed for Tyson's beyblade as Dranzer emerged, ready to send out a stream of fire.

"Dragoon, attack!"

The white beyblade headed for Dranzer as Dragoon burst out in a flash of light. The blue dragon slammed into the red phoenix, momentarily dazing Dranzer and thus interrupting its attack.

"Dragoon, Storm Attack!"

Dragoon flew towards Dranzer, ready to execute its Storm Attack, but Dranzer evaded at the last moment.

"Dragoon, Phantom Hurricane!"

Dragoon started circling the dish at a high speed, trapping Dranzer in a small hurricane. Soon, it was too fast to be seen. However, all Kai did was close his eyes and concentrate.

"What's Kai doing?" Rei asked. "He's dead unless he acts quickly!"

"Kai is trying to listen to Dragoon's movements and counter its attack," Hui explained.

"Kai can-"

"Wait, there's something wrong. Can you feel it?"

"Feel what?"

"A presence. Volten."

"WHAT?!"

"Oh no! Kai!"

=Kai POV=

I closed my eyes and listened hard, trying to catch Dragoon's movements. I never knew how I did this, but it seemed so simple, so basic, like breathing. Suddenly, something disturbed my concentration. I felt something...a great evil presence. I didn't know why, but I was sure it was Volten.

The evil became overwhelming... it was trying to take over me... soon, I was oblivious to everything except the evil I was fighting. And I was losing. I could feel my body weakening as I collapsed to the ground.

=Tyson POV=

Kai... what was happening to Kai? His body lay on the ground, convulsing and writhing in pain. No... it couldn't be! First Max, now Kai... I can't stand by and do nothing again... I have to help!

"Tyson, stop!"

It was Hui. Without realising it, I had started running towards Kai.

"Don't touch Kai! Around now, his body should be feeling a surge in energy. If you touch him, the energy might kill you."

"But why?" asked Rei. "Why the surge in energy?"

"It's an instinctive reaction to Volten. Kai has always been like this, but the energy had been in too small amounts for him to really feel anything. But this time, Light Dranzer is giving him the energy."

=Kai POV=

Suddenly, everything became calm.

No pain, no evil, just a soothing voice in the distance.

"Kai..."

I know that voice... but somehow, I just can't remember who.

"Kai... Volten is nearby. You can feel it."

"Yes... but who are you?"

"You know me... you just have to search within yourself. Meanwhile, you will need to find Crystallis... Crystallis can negate the tainting ceremony."

"But where is it?"

"It is close, that is all I can say. Now, let me lend you my strength to fight Volten..."

=Rei POV=

I watched, horrified, as Kai's body was engulfed by fire.

No, wait. Kai had turned into fire.

The fire engulfed the entire dish, and instantly Dragoon was thrown out. But the fire continued to rage, cing ing around Kai's beyblade.

=Tyson POV=

I saw Dragoon being defeated by Kai in his fiery form. But suddenly, a flash of yellow in the trees caught my eye.

I turned around, and for a moment, I saw him. There was no mistake.

I ran.

=Normal POV=

Tyson ran towards the forest, leaving behind his Dragoon, oblivious to the fact that he had just lost to a burning Kai.

"Tyson!" Rei shouted. "Where are you going?"

"Max. I saw him."

"Wait!" Hui warned. "Volten is-"But But it was too late. Tyson had already disappeared amongst the trees.

"Damn!" Hui cursed. "I'm going after that boy. Who knows what trouble he's getting into. Rei, you take care of Kai."

Without giving Rei a chance to reply, Hui quickly ran into the woods. Rei walked over to the dish, as the fire started to settle and transform back into Kai in the middle of the dish. After a few seconds, Kai's body was fully formed, and Rei held him in his arms, not knowing what to do. After a few more seconds, Kai started gaining consciousness.

"What happened?" Kai asked weakly.

"You collapsed and started convulsing, then suddenly your body turned into fire and engulfed the dish before transforming back," Rei explained.

"I felt Volten's evil trying to take over me and I was fighting it, then I heard a voice talking to me about Crystallis and felt a sudden burst of energy."

"It was Light Dranzer... she gave you the energy. Hui told me."

"I remember... Light Dranzer was the one who was talking to me..." Kai noticed the worry on Rei's face. "Don't worry about the fire. It happened to me once before, when I was fighting Volten in Russia."

"You have? But still, it was pretty scary, seeing you catch fire all of a sudden... I thought you were going to die."

Kai lifted his head and looked around.

"Where's Tyson and Hui?"

"Tyson saw Max in the forest and ran. Hui went after him."

"But it's dangerous! Volten... is..."

Suddenly, Kai was overcome by horror as he put the facts together.

=Flashback=

"The angels' tainting ceremony is what humans would call 'sex'," Hui explained.

"THAT TRAITOR INJURED AND RAPED MAX!" Tyson screamed. "HOW CAN I DO NOTHING ABOUT IT?"

She wants you to know that Volten has not been completely vanquished yet. You will soon face him again, but he will appear in a more terrifying form than you would ever imagine. Meanwhile, watch your back. Even allies can turn enemies."

=End Flashback=

Even allies can turn enemies...

"Don't worry, Hui knows, that's why he went after Tyson," said Rei.

"No, that's not it! Max... Max has been tainted."

"Tainted?"

"It's like... heck, I'll explain it later. Right now, Max is under the control of Volten."

" What? And knowing Tyson..."

"We have to go, Tyson is in serious danger!"

"But Kai, you're too weak!"

"Even if I have to crawl there, I will. I'm not letting Volten hurt my friends again."

"I... ok, I understand. I'll help you."

Rei supported Kai as he stood up in pain, and he limped off into the forest in search of Tyson. After a while, Kai had regained enough energy and was able to walk on his own. After a while more, Kai and Rei could hear voices. As they walked towards the source of the noise, it got louder and soon they were able to hear clearly.

"Max, whae yoe you doing here?"

"Tyson? I... quick! Run away!"

"Why? I'm not leaving without you, everyone's been so worried! Come on, I'll find a way out of here."

"Please, GO! I... I can't fight it much longer..."

"What are you talking about?"

They heard leaves rustling and twigs cracking, as though something had fallen onto them. Then, footsteps snapping more sticks.

"Max, what's wrong? What's happening? Max, talk to me!"

Suddenly, a chilling scream filled with pain pierced the air. Kai and Rei burst through a few trees into a clearing. Max was kneeling on the floor in Tyson's arms, unconscious right now. Hui was nowhere to be seen.

Suddenly, Max's eyes sprung open. Kai instantly recognised the look in those eyes.

"Ty get get away NOW!"

Tyson turned around.

"Kai, Rei, what are you-"

Tyson suddenly stopped as he felt Max press something against his throat. It was a knife.

"Max, what are you doing?" Tyson asked, voice shaky.

"It isn't Max, it's Volten!" Kai explained.

"Volten? No... THIS IS MAX! MAX, I'M TYSON! WAKE UP!"

"Not bad, Kai," Max said in an unearthly voice. "Now, step back or this one dies."

Max pressed the knife harder, and a thin red line appeared across Tyson's throat.

"Max... why are you doing this..." Tyson cried.

"Stop it, Volten. It's me you're after, so leave my friends alone."

"But then again, you've never really liked your team, so I guess I can play around with this guy a while."

Max started to mutter a spell. Suddenly, Tyson's body started writhing, his face wearing a contorted expression of eme pme pain.

"MAX! WHY... PLEASE, STOP THIS! STOP!!! I'M TYSON, MAX! MAX!!!" Tyson screamed hysterically.

"I must say, this body has an unusual gift for the arcane. If he'd been raised in Hell, he'd be a master mage."

Kai watched furiously, but he knew better than to do anything stupid. Rei could only look in horror, totally at a loss as to what to do.

"Now, let's see exactly how powerful this body is..."

Max cast another spell. This time, Tyson's torture was too intense to even speak clearly. All he could do was let out a piercing scream.

"THAT'S ENOUGH, Volten! Leave my friends alone!"

Kai took a step forward.

"Uh-uh, Kai. Wrong move. Now look at what you did."

Max pressed the knife even harder, and dragged it across Tyson's jugular before letting him go. Tyson collapsed to the ground, blood spurting uncontrollably out of his wound.

=Flashback=

A navy haired boy shot up, awaking suddenly from a nightmare. Gory images of him getting killed by the person he loved still stuck vividly in his mind, as he raised a hand to wipe off the cold sweat that was covering his forehead. He looked at the clock beside his bed. It was only 2 a.m., it was still about 4 hours till sunrise.

But he couldn't get to sleep, not with the horrific images filling min mind. Blood, gore everywhere... and at the hands of the one he loved...

It's nothing, he told himself firmly. Just a stupid nightmare. It's not real... But it felt so real!

=End flashback=

It is real.

"NOOOOO!!!" Rei screamed.

"Now, who'll be next? Hmm..."

Max started casting another spell. Soon, Rei found himself being yanked by an invisible force into Max's arm.

"Stop it, Volten! What do you want?" Kai shouted.

"You know what I want, Kai."

There was a rustling in the trees behind Kai, and soon Hui emerged. He looked grimly at Max, then Tyson's dead body.

"Guess I was too late."

"Ah... Titus. You have joined Light Dranzer, have you not? As you can clearly see, even Light Dranzer cannot stop me. Do you now see the power that I have?"

"This is not power, Volten. This is cowardice, using Tyson's friendship and love to kill him."

"Say what you want, but ultimate I will get what I desire."

Suddenly, a large animal sprung out of the trees behind Max, knocking him to the ground. Rei quickly scrambled out of Max's grip. Looking back, he noticed the animal that had saved him. It was a large, magnificent tiger. Somehow, it was strangely familiar...

"I... feel as though I know you."

The tiger walked up to Rei, purring gently.

"Could it be...?"

The tiger licked Rei's face. Rei smiled as he realised.

"Hello, old buddy," Rei said as he stroked the tiger's fur.

Meanwhile, Kai and Hui were looking at Max's body.

"Is he dead?" Kai asked.

"No, just unconscious."

"But Tyson..."

"I'm sorry."

Just then, Rei walked up to them with the tiger just behind him.

"Guys, I want you to meet a friend. Xiaohu."

"So that's Xiaohu..." Kai said. "Nice to meet you... um, Rei, is it safe for me to pet him?"

"Sure."

Kai rubbed his hand on Xiaohu's soft fur for a while before turning back to talk to Hui.

"So Hui... or should I say Titus? Who *are* you?"

"I guess it's time... I am Titus, a devil. I used to work for Volten. He promised me riches, fame and power once he could get hold of Crystallis. I believed him... until I saw him betray the only person who loved him, Dreamer. Then I realised how cold and heartless he was. Even devils understand the meaning of the sanctity of love. I left him, and thereafter I wandered for a while before becoming a messenger of Light Dranzer."

"I see... so what do we do now?" Rei asked.

"Volten is extremely powerful. Even if Light Dranzer were to fight him, there is no guarantee of destroying him. We need to find Crystallis."

"What is this 'Crystallis' anyway?" asked Kai.

"It's a weapon developed by the angels to fight the devils. Beyond that, I don't know anything."

"So where do we find Crystallis?" Rei asked.

"I cannot say. Even if I did, only Kai can find it."

"But it is close?" asked Kai.

"Yes. The two of you will need to find it, it's somewhere in this forest. I will bring these two-" Titus gestured towards Max and Tyson- "back to the village."

"Kai,why don't we ride Xiaohu? It'll be faster," said Rei.

"Sure... just wait a while."

Kai walked over to Tyson's body and knelt down.

"Tyson... no matter how many times I yelled at you, you're my friend. I don't regret you being a part of my life..."

Kai paused to wipe a tear from his eye.

"I... I'm really sorry that you were dragged into this whole affair, and ultimately gave your life to protect us... I'm not good with words, but I promise, I will avenge your death."

Kai stood up and walked back to Rei.

"Well, let's go."
