He wasn’t upset to have shared a few more laughs with Nicol that day.
***
Nicol was wandering through Azure’s garden and it was late. Very, very late. Nicol wasn’t with company. Kira was asleep in his dorm as far as Nicol knew. The small boy had come to cope with the fact that it probably wasn’t wise for him to be out during these hour of the night. Indeed, if a teacher or anyone else for that matter caught him outside, he would be suspended without a second thought.
//Why, oh why am I out here?// was the troubled thought that raced throughout his mind persistently, yet he paid it no heed and just continued to amble through the garden until he came upon the dais.
Nicol gazed at it. He stared and stared as if it were hiding something that he needed to unearth before it was too late.
Then she appeared.
With white robes billowing out behind her, like a gale, Azure came. She hovered above Nicol and just glanced down at him, her probing eyes must have found something interesting for her gaze held.
“Why are you still here?” Nicol called up at her, although it seemed as if he already knew the answer.
“Why have you come?” The woman asked with a voice that was even and strong.
“I-I…want to know…” And for a moment words failed Nicol as he struggled to come to terms with the one question that shone in his mind at that exact time.
“Why was it us?” Nicol blurted it out before he could stop himself and actually comprehend what he was asking.
Azure smiled. “Because you both have the same patterns in you and Cerulynn and I had in us.”
“Patterns?” Nicol blinked twice and looked straight into the woman’s twinkling eyes.
“Yes. You are both confused. You, who grew up shrouded in the belief that you could never be good enough by being yourself. You, who sought out ways to become someone else and was shattered in the process, you, who rebuilt his life with determination and a strong sense of independence, and you, who managed to keep your innocence throughout it all. You are caught in the same situation as my dear one, Cerulynn, was.”
“What about Kira?” Nicol asked as he began to really interpret what she was saying.
“Oh, he is more like me than he knows yet. More than you know as well.”
Nicol stared at his feet. He wasn’t sure of what it all meant. He was in the same situation as someone who had died more than fifty years ago? Why did that matter and why was it taking such an effect upon him now?
“I don’t understand!” He cried out.
Azure sighed. “I know it doesn’t make sense. I can tell how desperate you must be for answers and I wish I could just give them to you. But the time is not right for it. You aren’t ready and neither is Kira. You’ll know soon enough though, I promise. Until then, I fare thee well, and watch out for yourself, more people watch you than you realize.”
There was no flash of light, or any smoke or sparkles, just a tiny, green feather left behind, once Azure disappeared.
Nicol picked it up and upon examining it he discovered that there was a key attached.
Nicol didn’t understand his situation any more than he did before he had come to Azure, but now it didn’t seem so urgent. It was more like a soft memory that he could carry comfortably with him. Nicol sighed and tucked the key into his breast pocket before rubbing his eyes and sitting up in bed.

Sunlight poured through the window in Nicol’s dormitory and as he drifted back into the world of awakening.
“Uhhggh.” The boy felt like he had a hangover. The only thing missing was the fun night of partying drunk with his friends…and the fact that he hadn’t had alcohol.
Nicol scanned his room with hazy, sleep-diluted eyes. Everything looked the same, so why did he feel like something had changed?
//I knew I was dreaming but…I still feel as if she’s here in my room.// the boy thought with slight unease.
“I’d better get dressed.”
And so, Nicol changed into his uniform and prepared to go about his day as if nothing had happened at all.
He felt as if he was being stared at while changing though, and it wasn’t a very comforting thought so he looked around once again, and found nothing.
//I hope I make it out of all of this, sane.// and he turned to lock his door behind himself.
//Where is my key!?// Nicol thought, with a cold sense of something amiss, as he rummaged through the pocket he could have sworn held his dorm key.
Nicol checked both pockets before deciding to just go down to class and leave the door unlocked. //The people in this school are fairly nice…I’m sure they wouldn’t want to go into my dorm anyways.// and he rushed down the stairs to his Math class, praying to whatever deity that was listening, that he wasn’t late.

Blake smirked as he sat in one of the many crevices along the staircase. //Late eh? Well, there’s a little surprise waiting for you when you reach the classroom, kitten.//
Blake twirled a small key around in his fingers. He flipped it in midair and caught it.
“Your mine, little Kitten.”

Sorry about the shortness factor…and the fact that it took me a long time to get it up……I had a creative lapse….plus I’m having love trouble….*Sighs* Ah, well….no excuses for me…*Wanders out in the middle of field* You may now commence punishment, guys! *Is pummelled by onigiri*
Keep reviewing!!!
