Chapter 8

 
 
“Hey, Hilde, let me in.” The voice on the other side of the door said, softly.
She hurried to the door and opened it , letting him in.
“Duo!” She hissed, “What are you doing?! What if Une catches you? How did you get past the guard?”
“Shhh.” He whispered, pulling her into his arms, “He’s indisposed right now.”
“You didn’t?! You’ll get into so much trouble, because of me.”
She whispered as she tried to pull from his arms, But h e held her tight.
“You don’t worry about me, I can handle Une. Besides I didn’t hurt him, he’ll be back in a few minutes.” He paused, as he looked at her. “I was going to tell you earlier , but we got involved with the M. S. simulation, I sort of forgot. I have a lead and maybe some evidence against our friendly senator.”
“Really? What kind of evidence?”
“Well, I have to go get it.”
“Duo! You can’t go alone!”
“I have to ,babe. You’re locked up here and well, one is better than two in this situation.”
“Where are you going?”
“Well…………”
“Duo! Tell me, so I can at least know where to look if you get into trouble.”
He looked at her in shock. “Me, in trouble?”
“Duo.”
“Ok. OK. I’m going to the senator’s office and nose around there. I can get in pretty easily.”
She looked at him suspiciously. “How?”
He held his bodyguard pass up for her to see.
Her eyes squinted at him, “Heero know about this?”
“Nope and he’s not going to.”
“After you get done in the office , then where?”
“Well I heard he has a meeting place at an old warehouse. So I’m going to go there.”
“Where?”
“Gee, Hilde, don’t you trust me? I’ll be ok.”
“Just tell me! You have to have a back up. I’ll be it.”
Duo sighed and rolled his eyes. “OK, well I don’t know the exact location but it’s near pier 45. I think it might be warehouse 54.”
“OK. How will I know when you are back or how long Should I wait before I come looking for you?”
“I’ll beep you on the computer when I’m out. Should only take me a few hours. If you don’t hear from me after 6 pm, you better come find me.” He released her from his hold to look at his watch. “It’s 4 am now. I can get in the office now and them follow him to the pier.”
Hilde looked at him, “ How do you know he’ll go?”
He shrugged. “I don’t. I’m taking a chance.”
She closed her eyes and sighed. ‘You’re being reckless, again.”
“Who Me?”
He pulled her close to him again and this time he kissed her. “Trust me , ok?”
“I don’t have a choice, do I? I’m stuck in here and I’m not getting out any time soon.”
She sighed , looking at the floor. “ I should have said no and not been so quick to take that challenge.”
“Ah, don’t worry about it. I think Une was impressed with your numbers.”
“Really?”
He nodded, then looked toward the door. “I better go. I’ll call you, when I get out of the senators office and on my way to the pier”
“Ok,” She said, reluctantly. “But I still think you should wait for me.”
“No, I gotta do this alone.”
He pulled her in for one more kiss and then released her.
“Later, babe!” And then he was out the door.
She put her head in her hands and shook it. “Damn it , Duo. Be careful.”

Hilde paced in her room, clasping her hands into fists then releasing them. It was 20 after 6 and no beep. She shook her head . !0 more minutes then she was going to find him. She went to her draw and pulled out the gun she had stashed. **Old habits die hard,** she thought to her self as she checked the clip. She went to the bed and picked up her leather jacket and stuffed two extra clips in the pockets. She shoved the gun under the coat, in the center of her back. She snorted, If Heero could do it so could she. Now to get out of the room. She sat at her desk top and typed in a number.
Relena’s face popped up and she smiled when she saw Hilde.
“Are you alone?” She whispered.
“Yes.” She whispered, back. “Why are we whispering?”
“Oh , sorry,” Hilde said in her normal voice. “I need your help.”
“What do you need?”
“Out of this room.”
“Oh, under house arrest , are you?” Relena paused , then continued, “Duo’s in trouble, isn’t he?”
Hilde shrugged, “I don’t know but I have to go find out, You know.”

Relena nodded, “ I understand. How can I help?”
“I need the guards tied up for a little while so I can get out.”
“What about the surveillance cameras?”
“Err. Damn it, I forgot about them. Shit!”
Relena smiled. “How bad do you want out?”
“Relena!”
“Just kidding. Don’t worry, give me a half an hour.”
Hilde watched her turn away and come bao fao face her. “I’ll beep you when the coast is clear.”
Hilde rolled her eyes and grinned , “You’ve been watching James bond again haven’t you?”
“Do you want any one else in on this?”
She shook her head. “I don’t want any one to get in trouble.”
“Not to worry. I do have some one in mind.”
“Heero?”
Relena laughed,” No, I hardly think so. I have someone else in mind.”
Hilde frowned. “Who….?”
“No. I won’t tell you until I know she’ll help.” She waved, “I’ll get back to ya!”
The line went dead and Hilde looked at the black screen.
She stood and paced until the computer beeped.
She ran to he door and heard it unlock. As she pushed it open, a loud klaxon began to blare, causing confusion and disruption.
She slipped into the crowd and disappeared.

Relena looked over at Sally. “Is she out?”
Sally nodded. “Yeah.” **I sure hope she knows what she’s doing.****
“Good, time for me to go into my act. See you later!” She waved and went out the door.
