Scene Eight

Seripa stopped at one of the doors in the hallway while still holding En in her arms. The door opened with a screech, they entered. En looked into the brightly-lit room with wandering eyes. The room did not seem to smell as invasively over-sanitised like the medical room before, in fact it smelled of nothing and the air seemed to have more moisture and warmth, there did not seem to be any chunky, beeping machineries within visible range. Everything in the room seemed very shiny and slippery, everything was covered in light blue tiles. Then En saw the huge, hollowed out, round edged rectangular box, still covered in tiles, at the end of the room, which now seemed threatening and caving in on them.

Seripa put her down, making sure the door was locked with pressing a few buttons on the side. En looked on without blinking as Seripa went over to the hollowed out box to press a few more buttons on the left side of the wall of the room. Immediately, a few holes emerged on the walls of the box and aqua-green liquid begin to fill the container, with steam rising off the surface of the liquid as well. The air began to feel a lot warmer to En and she could feel her skin getting wet from the cotact with the steam. Is she going to cook me? En thought to herself.

Seripa turned around to her and said. "Alright take them off."

En stared at her with disbelief, and she quickly eyed at the door again, the red light blinking menacingly, not promising her an escape.

Seripa shook her head, sighed and muttered as she made her way back to En."Bardock what the Hell did you pick up... Listen kid, you can't wander around the station stinking like a wasteland, so I'm gonna have to wash you, so take these off."

En shrunk the closer Seripa got to her, clutching onto her rags defensively.

"Look, I'll get you new ones, just like the ones I'm wearing now OK? Once you get washed, you'll never have to wear these again, surely you don't want to wear something that can't last against these morons back in that room right?" Seripa rephrased her words again, thinking to herself, that kid actually never worn anything besides that roadkill pelt?

En looked at the Saiyan woman in front of her, true, the bright pink spandex did seem a lot more close fitting and it covered her from all her body except just below the collar bone, these boots too, they're shiny black ones with brown rubber soles. She then looked down at her own clothes and shoes, and she could see that there were already a lot of bald patches where all you could see was the skin of the dead animal and it was only a matter of time when everything would all just fall apart. Finally the liquid stopped filling up the box, the scent from the liquid smelled relatively pleasant, but En was not sure whether she would be part of the recipe.

Tentatively, she asked. "Am I going to be cooked?"

Seripa blinked for a second, before throwing her head back in full-blown laughter.

"What?! No! Is that why you won't take them off? No kid, this isn't the kitchen, no no I mean, OK, nobody, is eating anybody, you see that thing there? That's not a pot, it's a tub OK? Tub is where you get clean when you get dirty, we don't cook people in tubs, we wash them." She explained while feeling her face spasm from the silly bumpkin question.
Uncontrollably, she laughed again, leaving an embarassed En looking away. When she finally recomposed herself, Seripa spoke. "Alright kid, enough chit chat, what I need you to do, is to walk into that tub there so I can wash you." She pointed to the tub, then noticed how En was looking away, blushing like a sun ripened tomato.

"I'll look away." Said Seripa, trying very hard not to laugh again. So even a ragamuffin can feel embarassed, she thought to herself, and turned her whole body to face the right wall of the room.

Seeing Seripa doing that, En mustered the courage to start with her shoes, then after that, it did not seem to be as intimidating, seeing a part of herself being bare for the first time, in a very long time, then she cris-crossed her hands on each side and pulled off her pelt-dress. It felt very weird to feel her entire body being masked in moisture from the steam. She looked towards Seripa again, who was still facing the wall, with her eyes closed too. Then very quickly, En made hser way to the steaming tub, and very carefully soaked herself in it. The liquid was warm at just the right temperature, and En could see as soon as she entered it, the chemicals inside of it were already breaking down the thick coat of grease, sand and debris that were on her skin. Despite being in the rain before being taken here, En had never had a bath before this, and there was only so much that rain water could have done. She was amused to see the water changing from a vibrant colour into a murky palette that continued to be tainted the longer she had soaked herself in it. She then felt something splash the top of her head.

"Don't panic kid, I'm just washing your hair, and I'd keep your eyes closed if I were you. Also, start scrubbing." Said Seripa as she lathered up En's hair and began to massage her scalp, then began to carefully untangle the knots in her hair. It did not take long before En had to leave the tub for it to be refilled just so Seripa could rinse off the stubborn coat of grease that seemed to have been embedded onto En for God knew how long, and had to use a different coloured liquid, this time, a bright pink with more lather-friendly properties, which seemed to work a lot better at cleansing her thoroughly than the previous one. En chuckled as she saw her own tail float in the bath and then used it to create waves, unfortunately it made Seripa wet from all the splashing, who then made her wash her tail thoroughly.

After En had finished being vacuum dried, Seripa pressed a few more buttons on the right side of the room, which then a drawer zoomed out with a screech, displaying armour and spandexes of all sizes, with the shoes with differing sizes at the bottom layer.

"Hmmmm looks like we do have one for you, lucky enough, here, put these on, and those shoes too."

It took a while before En got used to the slippery surface of the spandex, it was quite tricky to grasp the fabric let alone slipping into it, the shoes however were quite snug and they had a good grip even on the tile floor, ensuring the wearer a minimal risk of slipping. En however had to get Seripa's help to put the gloves on.

Seripa looked at the now-thoroughly cleaned En amusingly, who could not stop looking at her own glove-fitted hands with amusement, extending her fingers and balling them into fists consecutively, admiring the snug fit and the stretchiness of the material, though Seripa had to stop her when she tried to gnaw on one of her gloves to test its strength.

"Alright kiddo, you're finally presentable. We need to make a few things clear. I don't get why Bardock got you, but since he's my captain it's my duty to do what he says, so the first thing I need to do, is to ensure that you do have a working post on this station, so we're going to meet the rest of the team now, and you need to follow me, no running away this time, Bardock may tolerate brats but I don't. Understand?" Spoke Seripa.

"OK."

"On team Bardock, we say 'understand', you're part of the team now, so you need to act like a real trooper."

"Trooper?"

Seripa almost had a face-palm moment before she continued on. "That's right, just follow me, and do as I do from now on, if you stick with that, you can do no wrong. And stand up straight, you're not in the dump anymore, stop crouching like a frog."

After pressing the buttons on the side of the door, they exited as it opened. En felt amazed how the smooth floor surface no longer affects her momentum and movement, these shoes offered such grip it was as if she was walking on dry ground itself, in fact she was so sure that she could bolt down the hallway with ease this time, but bearing in mind of what Seripa said before, En dared not to challenge her. Seripa walked quite briskly in front of her and En tried to copy her efficient movements, but then something caught her eye and she stopped. She turned to her right and saw her own reflection on a reflecting surface, it was a mirror.

She had a good look at herself, and could not believe what she was seeing. Her jet black hair with a hint of dark blue shade bounced the light off radiantly, with three spikes curved on each side and sloping upwards, with the exception of a hair bang hanging to her left side of her forehead. Her face looked to be on the gaunt side for a child of her age, but the cheeks were relatively round, giving it an ephemeral but innocent appeal. The bleached white gloves contrasted greatly with the dark jade green spandex she had on, and when looked under a strong light, the spandex's reflecting property gave the green a slight hue of newly-grown blade of grass. She could not help but touch her face with her gloved hands, feeling how smooth her cheeks felt after being so clean, and ran her hands through her own hair effortlessly without the obstacle of knots, feeling how smooth and sleek everything was about herself, even her tail was now fluffy from all the lathering and rinsing. She then felt her stomach gurgling out the most audible hunger noise. Seripa stopped and turned around to see a now cringing En, who was 10 metres away behind her.

"Hoookay, I suppose we should make our way to the cafeteria first." Said Seripa, she then turned back and kept on walking, with En finally catching up with her in tiny steps, then regaining a military-like composure. They finally arrived at the cafeteria, which was again, full of the same Saiyans as before, but they were less raucous now, though they still paused their activities and stared at the duo. Seripa looked around wordlessly but the message was already made clear in her eyes, reaffirming what Bardock was saying before, before proceeding to walk towards the serving station, where smaller aliens clad in dark brown hood stood behind the serving counter. En was hesitant for a second, but she was adamant to prove that she was good enough to be on this station and not get kicked around like a stray, so with all of the Saiyans watching her, she followed Seripa behind while trying not to walk too fast nor too slow.

"Hey y'all, give us the usual, we got ourselves a new one on the team." Said Seripa, leaning on the counter casually as she flicked her chin towards En's direction. En looked at the hooded midgets with their faces covered and was amused at the way they squeaked to communicate with each other. She then saw a trapdoor-like commotion when a rectangular hole appeared on the kitchen counter and a large tray containing several plates was pushed upwards and stopped when it reached the surface, closing the trapdoor behind, the midget then gestured with their hands in the air, and En could not help but gawk at the drawers behind them opening and closing as food items were unpacked, sliced in the air with seemingly invisible blades, distributed from their respective containers and poured into the bowls and plates.

"Grab a tray kiddo." Said Seripa as she grabbed her own tray of food.

En walked up to the counter, tip toed then carefully grabbed her own tray before following behind Seripa. Seripa already started eating before En sat down, looked at her for a while, before sitting down across from her, they were the only two at the table so En felt less threatened. After observing the way Seripa shovelled portions of food into her own mouth, En began to eat, at first cautiously, then realising how tangy and flavoursome the food was comparing to the jerky that she had been eating all her life at the time, she picked up the speed and eventually surpassing that of Seripa's, who had already finished and was now looking at her with amusement.

"So kid, what is your name anyway?" Asked Seripa.

En swallowed a huge mouthful of food before answering. "Enneyac." She then took a huge swig of juice from the jug, which the content tasted like a mix between pineapple and orange juice with pomegrante fruit pulp.

"Enneyac? That's a big name for a little squirt like you. I'll just call you En." Said Seripa.

"OK." Said En before stuffing a bun dottled with herbs in her mouth with her other hand grabbing a slice of cooked meat.

"What did I say before kiddo?" Said Seripa, resting her chin casually on her left palm.

"Understand. OK." Answered En, who then started gnawing and tearing the meat apart, her right hand already grabbing a fistful of squishy bright yellow berries, accidentally squishing them in the process, which she then licked them up greedily after swallowing the well chewed up meat.

"Hn. So, what have you been doing before you got here?" Asked Seripa.

"I burn dead bodies." Said En as she picked her bowl of hot, creamy soup and despite the heat, she gulped it down within seconds before putting it down with a clang then moving onto the other plate, which was filled with cooked grains and mushed up bright purple vegetables.

"Huh. So can you fight at all?" Said Seripa, while thinking to herself, I guess she's not just a morgue rat, maybe Bardock is right after all, still, I have to get to the bottom of this.

En took a huge swig from the jug again and breathed in deeply, before she answered. "I'd be dead if I did." She lowered her head and looked at the empty dishes. It took a while before Seripa realised that she was still hungry.

"En, grab the tray and head over there and tell them to fill it up, no one's stopping you from getting more." Said Seripa. With a spring in her steps, En went up to the counter with the tray and again stood there with amazement at the smooth movements that was used to prepare her food.

Hnn, can't fight huh? Guess we do have a complete rookie on our side after all, but if she can eat like this then there's potential. Thought Seripa. En returned with the tray that had almost double the amount of food piled up and again gorged herself to her heart's content, Seripa looked on, thinking in her mind still on how to train this rookie. When En finally ate the last mouthful of food and let out a huge sigh of satisfaction, Seripa spoke again.

"You can come here to eat whenever you want, there will always be plenty of food, but only if you work hard at your job post."

"Understand." Said En, who then let out a huge, audible belch.

"I take it that you're full. Alright get up En, Bardock must be impatient by now."

They took the trays back to the serving counter before exiting again.
