Oh, and I don’t own them.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Of course I don’t, or I would be swimming in
DBZ manga.
But I do own the following birth certificates:
Bardock, Gogeta, Takashi and Bulla (Vegita & Kakarot’s too.).
~~~**
The others were sleeping.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Curled up in a large pile of tails and spiky
hair. Bulma had gone to bed.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Told Bardock to get her if anything
happened. He promised.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> And then he sat and watched his
brother. Felt the weird weakness of
him. Watched him sleeping, watched him
when he woke up, turned his tiny head to look at Bardock.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Blinked his little eyes.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
It
was annoying. Because Gogeta had been
stronger than this. He’d been
good-natured, generally. Soft-hearted
probably. Defintely not the most Saiyan
of the brood. But he was still one of
them, and Bardock wanted him to snap out of it already.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> To get up and behave like he was supposed
to. To act more like Takashi or Bulla,
or—though, this was his last choice—like the little bitties.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Trunks and Goten were more Saiyan than this.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Sure, they were cute and fluffy, but if you
pissed one of them off you best get out of the way because they would strike
back. And they were half-breeds, so
like Gohan before them, they were stronger than your average Saiyan.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He could feel how power flittered back and
forth between them.
But
there wasn’t even power being generated in Gogeta. Just sadness. Just the
last tinges of physical illness that were seeping away.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> So he should be getting up.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Be getting ready. Getting over it already.
But he wasn’t. He just stared,
blinked, didn’t even move.
It
was starting to annoy the hell out of Bardock.
He was the oldest brother here—save Gohan who was never around and
didn’t count—and he was the strongest of them all, and dammit, Gogeta needed to
get up now and move on with his life.
So
what if their parents killed? It was
their job and right as protectors of this planet. Bardock would have done the same thing. Without a second thought.
Bulla would have done it; Bardock knew.
Gohan probably would have—this supposing you could piss Gohan off
enough. Dad had killed.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Mom had destroyed part of the lookout.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> So, they were all Saiyans.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It was all instinct.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
What
was Gogeta’s problem?
He
stared. Grimaced as he tried to imagine
what was going on in his brother’s head.
Found that he didn’t really want to know if it was a train of thought
that ended with anything other than absolute love of their heritage and their
parents. But he controlled his natural
urge to haul Gogeta up by the hair and make him remember that he was a
Saiyan. Fell asleep still resisting
that urge.
~~~***
Goku
felt it. Like a lightbulb flickering
out of life, he felt his son. Sat up on
the bed, looked at Vegeta. Didn’t move.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Didn’t go to his son.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Just sat and waited.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Felt a great sadness.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Listened to the back door open, then close,
and felt the tiny little ki disappearing into the rising morning light.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Didn’t go after him.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Didn’t wake up Vegeta and tell him.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Let the ki slip out of his ability to sense
it. Let Gogeta run away from them.
Got
out of bed. Pulled on his gi, left the
room. Went downstairs to where his
remaining children were waking up.
Goten and Trunks first, and the Bulla and Takashi and lastly Bardock
rose his head from the now empty bed.
Stared at where Gogeta had been just a few moments before, and then
turned, looked at his mother. Didn’t
even look sad that his brother had left.
Just sniffed derisively. Stood
up.
“Come
on,” he ordered the brood, “Let’s go get breakfast.”
Goten
tugged on Goku’s fingers and he picked up his littlest one, lifted him up where
he could hear the tiny whisper in his ear.
“I know where Gogeta went.” Then
the little head nodded, he bit his lower lip and said, in a hurry: “I can feel
him.”
“Okay,”
Goku said. Ruffled the silky black
hair—hair that was growing out like Bulla’s, but instead of growing down and
covering his shoulders, it was standing up like his. Of all his children, this one looked the most like him.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
Goten
hoped down and went after Trunks and breakfast. Goku moved back to stand in the kitchen.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Helped them find their breakfast, watched
them eat. Wondered what life would be
like without Gogeta aro
he’d felt it in the way the child had left, he did not want to be found.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He did not want to be part of them.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Not right now, and maybe, never.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
/spa/span>Vegeta
walked into the kitchen, white battle gloves in hand, sparring clothes on.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Frown on his face. He stopped next to the kitchen table, counted the little black
heads and then looked at Goku.
“Where’s…”
Before
he could speak the name, Bardock snapped: “He left.”
“Left?”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Vegeta narrowed his eyes, looked directly at
Goku and then pointed outside. The
universal signal that there was about to be a fight. Goku went outside, waited while Vegeta explained to their
children what he was going to do to them should they attempt to listen in.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Then Vegeta was out there too—and none to
pleased. “Explain ‘left’.”
“He
left this morning.” That was the whole
explanation.
“Why?”
But
apparently, the whole explanation wasn’t enough for the great Prince.style="mso-srun:run: yes"> So he shook his head, shrugged and said: “I
don’t know.”
“Why
aren’t we finding him?”
Amazing
how so few words could be so angry. And
yet, how they sounded perfectly polite.
Goku briefly wondered if Vegeta had been schooled in that sort of talking
or if it just came naturally. “I was on
my own young,” was what he said, “So was Gohan. Didn’t even allow
his chest to move to breath as he thought, and then all at once nodded.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> “Fine.”
But didn’t go back inside. He
went the opposite direction; away from the capsule building.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Goku watched him go.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Wondered why he wasn’t more upset.
Realized
that no matter where his child was, it was still his child and always would
be. Wished Gogeta the best in whatever
he was doing. Went back into the
kitchen.
Bulla
was the first one to look at him. The
first one to speak: “What are we doing today, Mom?”
“Same
thing we do everyday,” Takashi countered.
“Fight,”
Bardock said—with a little more venom than necessary.
“Oh,
so I’m kicking your butt?” Bulla asked.
“Are
we going to see Gohan?” Goten asked.
“Who
cares?” Trunks snapped, moved a little away from his future mate.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> But Goten scouted closer, purred with his
little mouth pressed to Trunks’ ear.
Goku
watched as Trunks turned into a pile of goo that his littlest could manipulate
as he wished. “Go get ready,” he
said. There was a breath of wind, and
the table was left a disaster as his children flew up the stairs to get
dressed.

Fatherhood
was not conducive to meditating. It
took longer than it should have for him to calm himself into a meditative
state. And he remained like that.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Thought of nothing.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Waited for no one. And then, as the morning sun grew hotter, and noon overtook him;
annoying little thoughts, like gnats, started to flit through his mind.
About
his life. About his mate.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> His children. None of them were about Gogeta.
He felt a disappoint int in himself.
And let it burn through him. Let
himself be angry at himself; at the way his child could be edited out of his
memories as easily as that. But he knew
that it would be that way forever.
Because that was the way it was.
He’d heard of it happening before.
If every thousand years a Super Saiyan was born, every year a polar
opposite was born. A weak Saiyan.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> One that didn’t want to be one.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> That hated his fellow kind.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> In fact, contrary to public thought, there
were probably more of that kind out there in the universe.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Because their kind was not tolerated in a
warrior society. He remembered—like a
dream—that there had once been a sect of the weaklings that bond themselves
together and declared they were not weak, but just as strong as their fierce
counterparts. They declared that they
would better the race. They would be
its peaceful preservation.
ones of that sect that were not killed were banished.
Nobody
spoke of them. But he figured they were
probably still out there, had probably mated and reproduced and as he thought
about it, they were probably laughing their asses off that they, the weaker
race, had lasted past the warriors.
But,
like Gogeta was now being taken out of his memories, so were those weaker
ones. It was a set of programming that
had been set into his mind since the day he was old enough to understand
words. Saiyans were warriors.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Saiyans fought. They ruled the lower races; and they certainly didn’t refuse to
fight and turn their back on their own kind for peace.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
There
was a time when he thought Kakarot had become one of those idyllic idiots.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> (A very short amount of time, before he had
fought him.) And there were times, when
he thought of him, and Vegeta was certain that had Kakarot been allowed to grow
up on his home planet, he probably would not have been as powerful or as ready
to fight.
But
those thoughts were a waste of his time.
And he pushed them away. Climbed
back to his feet. Found his mate’s ki
and his children’s and went to find them.
They were sparring with the baldy and Gohan. Kakarot was couching them from one side.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Unfortunately unable to participate anymore
due to the backlash effect of pregnancy.
He
raised his hand, gathered ki, formed a disc and sent it at Bardock.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Then another one at Bulla.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Watched her catch it, turned to look at him,
dark eyes flashing and tshe she shot it back—stronger—and without even a pause,
she blocked the foot aimed for her face.
Bardock closed his fist around it, absorbed it back up and continued to
egg on the little bitties.
Goten
looked bored. Trunks was doing what he
could without his partner interested in the fight. That was until Bardock punched Trunks and drew blood.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Then the littlest one screamed out a
challenge—terrifyingly just like any Saiyan woman would have—and threw himself
at Bardock. Wrapped the smaller limbs
around Bardock, used teeth and hands, bruised and drew blood.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
Vegeta
grinned. Watched his own little son,
Trunks, move up and take advantage of Bardock’s distraction, punched him back,
moved back, caught Goten when he was finally thrown off Bardock, and then the
two of them moved to attack again.
Kakarot
moved to stand next to him again.
Didn’t say anything. Just
purred.
It
was what they did. Situations like this
weren’t ever handled with words. Vegeta
knew that Kakarot felt sorrow for their son.
And he trilled in response. Let
that be his condolences. Let that be
his answer, to let his mate know that he shared that pain.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> But it was different for him.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Kakarot felt it more personally, but would
never let the other children know that.
Because his mate had given up his ability to have children to save the
lives of his sons. And Gogeta had left
them anyway.
And
as Vegeta watched, he realized that the other children had known Gogeta would
leave long before he and Kakarot did.
And that it did not bother them nearly as much.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Because they understood that he was not a
part of them anymore.

Gasp! Free-floating saiyans in the universe?! Peaceful Saiyans?! GASP!
>
Gk: This chapter was painfully devoid of sex.
Vegeta: Must fix this problem.
*rips away clothes, tosses Goku to the ground and does many unspeakable
things.*
Well. See what happens when you l Sai Saiyans by themselves for too
long? Sheesh.
Luna:
Well, Dragonballs brought the dead ones back to
life. That’s slightly better.
Jaygoose:
I had forgotten that too. But *sigh * they are slightly older than spring chickens.
Getarian:
n stn style='mso-tab-count:
1'> Yeah the whole “what did I tell you about my children”
thing was probably more Vegeta’s style of annoying speech.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> But Goku just died, is insanely powerful and
has been living with Vegeta for three years.
So he can say whatever he wants.
(mostly.)
Vegeta is such a good daddy and mate.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> *snuggles Vegeta until Goku appears and
starts to growl. * Anyway, NO this isn’t
the end! Silly!~style=-spa-spacerun: yes"> Goodness.
As if I would just end it like this.
Aarika:
Goodness, reading this fic is dangerous to your
health. But I’m glad that you’re
okay. I would hate to have inadvertently
been the cause of your untimely demise.
Pixydust:
They have yet to hit puberty.style="mso-spacerun: ye Trunks (technically) went back in time when
he was 19, but when he went forward in time, he only made it to when he was
15. The kids are about 3 ½ years
younger than him. And their voices
haven’t changed yet. (plus, they’re the
littlest ones and will always be referred to as ‘little’ as their older
siblings.)
Tatoosh:
Basically, the Dragon took the lives of the ones that
will never be born to put life back into the ones that died.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Because none of them were ever meant to
be. (except Trunks & Goten.)style="mso-spacerun: yes"> And he couldn’t take away the lives of the
one that were already conceived, because they already existed.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> (I’m not that mean!)
Mechanical butterfly:
Glad you liked it.
(I definitely do not want kids at fifty. *well, not to be having kids *)
CrazyGurl:
Yes. Lots of
sex. Guaranteed birth control.

Luna:
Yes, everyone can look forward to that beautiful lust
cycle.
