Chapter 9

Rim: A new chapter, I finally get around to typing it while working on the last few chapters of this story. I can’t believe that I’m finally coming to a close soon with this one.

Akito: You’ve technically been working on this story for how many years now?

Rim: That’s only due to me stopping it for like…three years then picked it back up recently. But that’s not the point…

Kanzaki: Oh really now, so we finally get the ending to this story this year. This I have to see for myself.

Rim: Well thank you both very much for the support. Thanks everyone for the reviews and the support, I’m going to go into overdrive now to get the rest of this story kicked out. So how about we get this started.

Tala sat in the backseat of the van Mr. Dickenson had rented for the Demolition Boys to use for their stay at the hotel while in Japan thinking about all the events of the day. His eyes were focused on the scenery; however his mind was digesting everything that the Bladebreakers told him and Bryan about Kai and Tyson’s relationship. What was he going to do, how was he going to go about saving Tyson?

“Penny for your thoughts, as they say,” Bryan said, breaking through Tala’s thoughts. His eyes watched Spencer and Ian who were playing some game in the seats in front of them. Neither minding the two slightly brooding men in the backseats. Or rather as Bryan would put it, he was watching Ian play a game with Spencer who looked about ready to kill the shorter Russian at any given second.

“My thoughts aren’t worth more than a penny now and days?” Tala joked, feeling a small smile rise to his lips.

“Well, I would offer you more, but really, yeah, they aren’t worth more than a penny,” Bryan smiled. “Now back to the subject.”

“My thoughts aren’t worth much, why should I tell them to you?” Tala asked.

“Oh, because I know what you’re thinking anyway, so it’s better if you say them instead of letting me use the penny to surgically remove those thoughts out your head,” Bryan shrugged.

“You know, I can imagine you doing something like that,” Tala said after a long pause. Turning his eyes over to his friend, he met Bryan’s stare with a grim expression, the smile that was on his lips dropped completely as the seriousness returned to his voice. Tala lowered his voice so that he wouldn’t rouse Spencer and Ian’s attention. The last thing he wanted was for either of the two to know what was going on. It wasn’t as if he didn’t trust them, only it was better if only few people knew the truth until the crisis was over.

“What do you have planned out in your head so far? I know you that look anywhere, and you’re plotting something,” Bryan stated.

“Not much,” Tala sighed. “There’s no way that we can just barge in and spirit Tyson away without Kai hurting us, having us arrested and thrown into jail for an insurmountable length of time, and taking it out on Tyson afterwards.”

“You’re right about that. It’s good that you’re thinking seriously about this, instead of wanting to be gung-ho,” Bryan voiced softly. “So, do you want to give this time?”

“Waiting is dangerous in Tyson’s case. The longer we wait, it gives Kai more time to become more unstable until he figures that he doesn’t need Tyson around anymore and just kills him. Every second we wait is a second closer to Tyson’s death. We have to act soon.”

“Act with caution,” Bryan corrected. “Things will fall apart without a well developed plan. So make sure you aren’t rushing into your death or Tyson’s with a half assed plan.”

“I won’t,” Tala assured, as the van pulled up to the hotel. “I promise I will not fail with this mission.” The van driver came to a complete stop, cutting off the engine as Ian bound from out of the passenger door, rushing for the hotel’s entrance. Spencer was right behind the hyperactive jack rabbit within seconds, leaving Tala and Bryan alone in the van.

“All right, I trust you won’t,” Bryan said climbing out the van.

“I just have to figure out how this is going to work out,” Tala said, following Bryan. Stretching, the azure eyed male stared up at the sky. If only he could make one dot connect, he was certain that the others would fall into place behind it.

“Excuse me…” Tala and Bryan tilted their heads to the side, finding a young man in his early twenties standing a foot away from the van with a nervous stare, biting his bottom lip as he shifted his glance between Bryan and Tala.

“Do you need some help?” Bryan questioned.

“I’m looking for Tala Ivanov?” the young man announced. Tala looked at Bryan who shrugged, as they both turned their eyes back to the young man. Could this possibly be the dot that Tala had been wishing for or was it just a coincidence of hopeful wishing?

“I’m Tala, what can I do for you?” Tala introduced, a brow raised in question.

“My name is Sarutobi Maitoh. I work for Kai Hiwatari and Tyson Kinomiya, and I was wondering if by chance you could spare me a minute of your time, please. It’s very important I speak with you,” Sarutobi pleaded. “I don’t know how much time I have so I must do it quickly and get back.”

“And what is it you’ve come to me for?” Tala interrogated. He had to know if this man was here trying to help Tyson or set him up on orders of Kai. “How did you come to want to find me?”

“After what happened this morning…I knew that I had to do something,” Sarutobi confessed. “I tracked you down through a few hotel inquiries until my search led me here.”

“Tala, I’m heading in. This might be your chance to connect those dots together like we were talking about,” Bryan replied, clasping his hand on Tala’s shoulder, whilst giving his friend a look to take care. Nodding slightly, Tala watched Bryan walk away. When the fair haired man was gone, Tala turned his full attention back to Sarutobi.

“Tell me, what’s the real reason you’re here? Was it to set me up by Kai, or are you really trying to help Tyson? I’m sure everyone in that mansion knows what goes on and has turned a blind eye to it because they fear Kai’s wrath. Why are you stepping forward now?” Tala voiced softly so they weren’t overheard by any people bypassing.

Sarutobi smiled slightly, staring down at the ground. “You’re right…we’ve been turning a blind eye to it. We have been too afraid of Kai to do anything. The last person who tried to help Tyson was killed. It’s dangerous to work for Kai, but we are afraid to quit because he might kill us.”

“So you have to come to help Tyson at the risk of your own life?” Tala asked.

“Yes,” Sarutobi nodded, his eyes narrowing in concern. “The last attack…the night they came back from the party…Kai could have killed Master Tyson. He killed the doctor that was helping Tyson because she knew what he had done.”

“Is it safe to leave him alone if what you say is true?” Tala frowned.

“Master Kai left earlier this morning after you came over. I’m sure he won’t be back for a while, but I want to make certain of this and get back as quickly as possible,” Sarutobi replied.

“It’s understandable,” Tala said, folding his arms. “But tell me…why take this chance now with me? Are you in love with Tyson, which is why you’re risking it all now?”

“No,” Sarutobi shook his head. “I think of Tyson as a younger brother…I have a sister that works for Master Kai also. Her name is Silba…I couldn’t imagine letting something like that happen to her. I’m ashamed for allowing it to happen to Master Tyson. I want to make it up to Master Tyson. You’re the only person that seems to not be fooled by Master Kai’s act, so I come to you to plead that you free Master Tyson from his cage.”

“I want that too,” Tala agreed.

“I have a plan if you’re willing to listen and trust me,” Sarutobi said.

“Go on, I’m listening,” Tala answered.

“I will need you to give me a few days time, but once everything is set up, I will contact you at this hotel with instructions,” Sarutobi said.

“And what about Kai?” Tala questioned. “Won’t he be suspicious of your actions? He’s not the type of person who will be ignorant of what is going on around him. I’ve known him too long to forget that aspect about him. You will have to be careful not to catch his attention with your activities.”

“I know that. I’m hoping he will be too distracted with other affairs to pay attention to me. I promise to be as subtle as possible,” the young butler promised. “I’m just glad that you trust me.”

“It’s not that I trust you so much, because there’s still a chance you’re setting me up. I’m cooperating to see what happens. It could play in my favor to help Tyson, I’m taking a gamble here with that,” Tala admitted.

“But…” Sarutobi started.

“Do you really think that someone can trust a situation like this out of the blue?” Tala said. “Think about it from my point of view. Even if you are earnest about helping Tyson, it’s still suspicious. It’s better this way, it will keep me on my toes to expect the unexpected, however that does not mean I won’t help you, just so you know. We can still go with the plan.”

“I…I think I understand…” Sarutobi bit his bottom lip worriedly. “I guess in your position…you can only think in such manner. This is a really delicate matter…so it’s only rightful you’re this cautious.”

“Exactly,” Tala nodded. “You should get back to him now.”

“You’re right…thank you so much for your time,” Sarutobi bowed. “I want to thank you on behalf of both Master Tyson and myself. I don’t believe you’ve come here by accident…your timing is impeccable.”

“So it seems,” Tala answered. “Let’s just hope that God really is on Tyson’s side in this case. So, I’ll wait for your call in a few days then.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Sarutobi walked into the Hiwatari mansion, his breath held, waiting for Kai to come storming out of a shadowy corner with accusative cursing spewing from his mouth. However there was nothing there but the shadows. Sighing with relief, Sarutobi closed the front door, exhaling the breath of anticipation in his lungs.

It had to be in good favor his volatile employer/master had not returned as of yet. It gave Sarutobi a little time to collect his thoughts over what would take place in a few days. The idea sent chills up his spine thinking that in a few days with luck, Tyson would finally be in safe hands. Going back over the talk he had with Tala Ivanov, he felt confident this would work out as planned.

“Sarutobi…” Silba broke through the young butler’s thoughts. Sarutobi turned to his sister with a small smile, showing her that everything was fine. “How did it go? Did he listen to what you have to say?”

“Yes. Hopefully Master Tyson will be free from this place for good. I only hope that everything goes according to plans.”

“Are you sure you can trust this man? Wasn’t he once a friend to Master Kai?” Silba worried. “I don’t want to see him turn on you and inform Kai of your intentions.”

“You don’t have to worry Silba,” Sarutobi assured. “He didn’t trust me as much as I trust him. I think he can be trusted because he is going to be cautious towards anyone who approaches him about Master Tyson.”

“Please be sure,” Silba begged. “Master Kai will kill you if you are wrong, aniki.”

“He will kill me eventually, or has already made up his mind to kill me soon. He considers me a threat now. It’s only a matter of time before he executes my employment with him, and end my life. And you will be the only one who knows Silba…” Sarutobi sighed. “Or he could likely kill you also to make certain of things.”

“Aniki…” Silba stared down at the floor. She knew her brother was correct. The look Kai had in his eyes when mentioning Sarutobi was not a normal glare. It was of a man who only needed a second’s thought before executing his heinous plans. And since she was Sarutobi’s only living relative, covering up his disappearance without anyone snooping around looking for answers would be a cinch. If she talked, she died too, end of case. No grandparents wondering if they were all right, and their parents died in a plane accident when they were four and seven. No uncles or aunts either.

“You know, he will not stop until he’s dead or Tyson is. I don’t want the latter to be the means for which Master Kai stops. Master Tyson deserves better, do you not agree?” Sarutobi made his way up the stairs of the mansion, Silba following closely behind.

“No one deserves such a life,” Silba agreed. “Master Tyson has a kind heart that is being trampled over. Why has God allowed this to happen…I ask again and again without answer each morning I wake up to Master Tyson’s desperate screams and pleads.”

“We may never know, be we can give him a reason to thank God for existing if he really does,” Sarutobi replied. Entering Tyson’s room to check on his young master, the butler was at ease seeing the bluenette sleeping so peacefully. In only a couple of days, everything for his young master would be like now. Where Tyson wouldn’t have to wake up to bruises, more punches and kicks, nor a fear for life. Sarutobi just prayed God would not close the path to escape on the fallen angel.

Rim: I know, another short chapter…I thought this chapter was going to be longer, but I guess this is about the limit that I can stretch the chapter.

Akito: You’re losing your touch.

Kanzaki: I second that notion. What’s happening our oh faithful leader.

Rim: You know…I hate you both sometimes.

Akito: Yes, we know, and it is our duty to send you over the edge. You’re welcome for all your hard work.

Rim: Yes…I really just hate you both…
