My long time Lover, Lucrezia Noin, had died two years ago today. The ache of her death still hurts sometimes, mostly when I am reminded of her. Smells, sights, thoughts, they all remind me of her. I do noop top them, the pain of it not fresh anymore. She and I were one, forever intertwined.
Until that fateful day, the day her suit was destroyed by a rebel. I managed to destroy to suit and the one inside, but too late for her. The lifeless void of space had taken her and my child. She had known, but I did not. They said it would have been a son, a son to carry on our family line, the Line of the Sanc Empire, my family’s former kingdom.
The thought hurt, but I pushed it from me, knowing today would be a happy day. Still I could feel her presence around me, feeling her mind within me. I tried not to fight it, letting her memory speak to me, comfort me.
Zechs, why do you fight it?
I could not answer her question, knowing it would hurt even to admit my thoughts to a memory.
“I do not want to forget you.”
I could feel her smile around me, warm, filling. I loved her, still love her.
Zechs, go on with your life. You need to go on.
I shook my head, knowing what she was talking about, whom she was talking about. I didn’t know if I wanted to face up to it.
Zechs, she loves you, like I love you. She is there for you, I am not.
I lay back on the bed I was sitting on, letting my mind go blank so I could have some semblance of thought.
A little over a year ago, I had been working again with the Preventers, taking a few missions here and there. My heart was barely into it, but it gave a distraction for the time. Three months into my return, Une introduced me to a new recruit, called Sky. She was small, built strong but looked weak as a child. She was quick and took maneuvers effortlessly. She wasgoodgood as Noin in battle, making sure she would never harm unless she had to. She reminded me a lot of Noin, not in her face, but her personality and her determination.
I had asked her real name that morning, never actually having heard her called anything but Sky. She smiled, peeking out from checking some wires in the cockpit. She laughed and shook her head, making her red hair float and fall around her face. Her hair was as long as mine, red as the setting sun, with streaks the color of blood, which you could tell were added. Her eyes, almost blue-black, shone as she answered, jumping out of the pilot’s seat and grabbing a wrench from the box.
“No one’s ever asked me. My Name is Alix. It's Aliksandra actually, Aliksandra Redbird.”
I smiled a bit, letting the name roll through my head. “Redbird. Unusual name.”
She smiled, finishing her work and throwing the tools back in the box. “My dad was a healer for a tribe of Native Americans in North America. Redbirds were renowned healers. And channelers.”
For the next few hours we talked, well she talked, and it eased my loneliness to listen. We were outside Jupiter watching for rebels, when she walked to the back, saying she would take the first 8-hour. There was nothing on the radar anywhere so I let her, sitting to simply think about life. I heI heard her about an hour later, a cry of agony, like a howl from the depths of hell itself. I went to make sure she was all right, wondering what was going on. I walked in, seeing her lying like she was almost dead, pale as snow and tears running out of her eyes. I knelt next to her, holding her hand, feeling that it was hot, she was on fire.
I felt her head, thinking she was sick, when her eyes flew open and she sat straight up. She looked at me, or rather through sta staring somewhere beyond forever. I heard her speak, but it was not her voice, but Noin’s. It was incoherent and jumbled, but it was hers. I put my hands around Alix’s arms, screaming at her to stop, to stop torturing me. But how could she be torturing me? She knew nothing of Noin. Alix and I had been partners on the field of battle, togetfor for months, and I had never told her of my fallen angel.
“Alix! Lucrezia! Stop, Why are you tormenting me?!”
Alix’s head fell back, hitting the pillow with a soft umpf. She looked over at me, Noin’s voice coming from her lips, softly smiling as she spoke.
“I sent her to you Zechs. She knows you. She is yours. Make her yours.”
I didn’t know what to think, seeing Alix speak with my loved one’s voice. I lost control right there, confused, hurt and frightened. On impulse I pulled the little red-haired warrior to me, kissing her with the pent up passion, lust, love, caring and desire I had left in my bodarinaring to destroy my own fragile Psyche.
I felt her hand on my face, and I pulled away, seeing her confusion and questions bright in her eyes. I moved away from her, standing up. I looked away from her and walked out, back up to the cockpit. Poor Alix sat there, fingertips on her bruised lips, wondering what had happened.
I was sitting in the co-pilots chair when she came in. She wasn’t dressed in the uniform, but wearing a nightshirt that came to her knees. I did not look at her as she came in, standing next to me. She looked down at me, watching me, since I refused to look at her. Her gaze was so intense; I could feel the heat of it. I looked to her only after she spoke.
“She wants you to be happy Zechs.”
I frowned, asking what she was talking about. She smiled a bit, a look of understanding on her face.
“Lucrezia, she told me. Told me everything. She wants you to be happy, to go on. She spoke to you didn’t she, that’s why you kissed me.”
I looked up at her, startled. “That was her? I’m not going insane?”
She shook her head, holding my hand. “No. She was here, still is. She’s always around you.”
I couldn’t stop myself from letting tears fall. It was unbecoming of a former prince and a gentleman, but it hurt my heart to not let go some of the pain. It was cathartic if anything, a purging of the demons that haunted me.
I felt her hand on my shoulder, actually comforting me as I wept, her words calming and reassuring. I heard them and other words, Noin’s voice like a memory in the back of my mind.
She is yours, make her yours.
I fought the urge for a second, but could not control the longing I had. I did not want to do what I was being pushed to do. Or did I? That was Noin’s v, an, and before that time Alix had known nothing about her. They were alike in many ways, form, spirit, presence, and touch.
Touch, that’s what I wanted to do, touch her. I took her in my arms, letting my hands move down her back as I calmed a bit, inhaling her scent, smiling as it was close to another familiar scent. They both smelled like a rose, bright and vibrant, subdued but powerful in its feel. I held Alix closer as she silently held me to her. She would not deny me, knowing this is why she was sent to be my partner, soon my lover.
“Alix…”
She pulled a bit from me to look at my face. She let her hand wipe a tear from my cheek, smiling.
“Yes Zechs?”
I leaned up, pulling her closer to me as I kissed her. It was completely natural, there was no awkwardness. She let me kiss her as I wished, bowing to my whims, but asserting that she wanted to kiss me too. I heard her voice along with Noin’s in my head as I kissed her deeply, sliding my hands up her legs, cupping her bare body in my hands.
Make love to me Zechs.
I stood, holding Alix to me. She wrapped her legs around me, like it was instinct and we had lain together before. It was almost as if it was Noin again, but I felt Alix’s fire and own love for me within the pent up passion I felt in her. I could not tell at that moment whether or not I wantein oin or Alix, the both melding into this one woman who was now kissing me and saying my name in the heat of passion.
I took her to the sleeping quarters, laying her on the edge of the bunk. She pulled her shirt up, exposing herself to me. I licked my lips on impulse, wanting to feel every bit of her skin touching mine, the heat of our bodies becoming one.
I felt my hands up her body, feeling how cool and hot it was at the same time. She unbuttoned my suit, letting me kick it off, showing my body to her. She looked a bit awestruck as she looked at me, shivering a bit as she gazed at my manhood. I asked if she was all right. She shook her head, but told me not to worry about it, she would be all right. I dismissed it, lost in my own want at that point.
I took her breasts, full and round, into my hands, feeling her sigh and hearing the soft moaning coming from her chest as I suckled her. She wrapped her hand through my hair, arching into me as I pleasured her, letting all her inhibitions go and releasing herself to the fulfillment I would give her.
“Zechs, I want you…”
I looked up, pinching her nipples a bit as I leaned up and kissed her. She gasped as I twisted one a bit, holding it and releasing it as she moved into the motion. I kissed her again, slipping a finger within her folds, hearing her cry in ecstasy as I worked on her. I entered her with two fingers, barely doing anything but toyed with her, stroking the bud that I knew would send her over the deep end. As a wave hit her, she cried my name, tears falling as she did.
I spoke to her gently, calming her with my voice. “Alix. I want you.”
She came from her stupor, smiling as me and pulling me in for a kiss. She spoke, a heady sultry and aroused tone coming from her mouth.
“Make me yours. I will be yours.”
I held her still as I entered her, feeling resistance but dismissing it, but knowing what it was. I moaned along with her, our voices chorusing in a song of lust and want. I could not say at that time that I loved her. She would say the same. She felt good to my heart mind body and soul, as I did to her, but we could not say that night we loved each other.
I wove my hands in her hair as I felt the pressure of my release come to a head. I kissed her, feeling the heat and electricity between us as she let go, moaning, screaming, letting her spirit free with mine, our bodies and souls connected.
I arched into her, feeling my heat mingle with her as I released myself within her body. My Mind was swirling as I fell upon her. I felt her hands on my shoulders, holding me as I recovered, whispering that she was mine, that she would be connected to me from this night on.
I awoke with her wrapped around me, her leg over mine in the bed, her head on my chest. I looked at the clock and realized how long we had been there. I let her sleep, cleaning up a bit and getting at least my pants back on. I returned to the cockpit, my head bowed as I was buttoning my uniform pants. My head shot up as I heard Une’s voice from the COM center, chiding me already.
“Where’s Sky at Wind? You guys have not been answering any communication for the past four hours!”
I shrugged. “She’s not feeling great, asleep. I have been taking care of her. I need a shower. What did you need Earth?”
Une smiled. “I don’t believe you for some reason Zechs, but I’ll take your word for it.” She said she just wanted to make sure we were all right, since we didn’t report in a while. She blinked out as Alix came in, her nightshirt thrown back on, hair disheveled but still beautiful to me. I walked up to her, smiling and kissing her on the lips. She looked a bit scared of me, and I asked why, worried for her. I knew why Noin had sent her for me, but thinking she may still be overwhelmed.
She answered my questions with a smile and a kiss. She held herself to me e ste stood there. I knew she was feeling a bit bombarded as she cried into my shoulder. She knew I would care for her as I spoke to her, telling her she had nothing to worry about and that I would care for her.
“You were made for me, Alix Redbird. I will not leave you; I have taken something so precious that I would never leave you. You were innocent; I have taken your innocence. We were sent to each other, you are mine as I am yours.”
I lived up to my word, ris cou court-martial and many other things to make sure I made Alix happy. For the last year I have been right next to her as she has been next to me. We are lovers, friends, partners, everything to each other.
But the pain of Noin’s death still hurts. Alix understands, comforting me when I need it. She carries Noin’s spirit within her. I am convinced of that. Yet, that’s not why I am going to do what I am this night.
I push Noin’s memory from me, saying she can go, that it is time I moved on. I stand, throwing on my uniform jacket and heading downstairs.
The Palace of the Sanc Kingdom was still used for occasional formal functions, such as tonight. Relena Darlian, ambassador, would finally Marry Heero Yuy, Former Gundam Pilot. I did not care about that, knowing Relena would make her choice either way. I cared about the girl, no, woman in the red silk dress at the top of the stairs waiting on me. I had bought her that dress, but she had never had opportunity to wear it. It fit her well, flowing from her like water. She smiled as I bowed and took her hand. She curtsied, smiling at me as I pulled her close.
“Hello My Beautiful love.”
She kissed me, softly, holding my hand. “Hello My Love. You look wonderful.”
I smiled, enjoying the sound of her voice in my ears. We had only admitted to each other that were truly in love a short time ago, but loved to hear the words from each other, as if it had been the first time.
We lighted down the stairs, watching the wedding together, hands entwined. I lead her to the reception afterwards, not mingling long. I led her to a secluded area in the garden, loving her gently, needing to feel her again to know my decision was right. I silenced her cries of passion with my lips to stifle my own. As we finished I heard her tell me again that she loved me.
“I love you too, my little bird.” I reached into my uniform coat, pulling out a small black box. I did not let her see it as she straightened her clothing, turning from me a bit to turn her dress.
When she turned back to me, I seized her hand and fell to one knee. In that second I forgot all my speech I was going to make, and simply asked.
“My beautiful Rose, my Heart, My Heaven, My Sky, My Redbird. Will you marry me?”
To my shock she fell on the ground, smiling and raining kisses all over my face. I held her fast as she said yes, she would marry me. She pulled away, smiling.
“I have my own surprise Zechs.” She took her hand and placed it upon her body, bright and glowing.
“What is it?”
She smiled more brightly, happy as any little redbird of happiness could be.
“I’m pregnant Zechs. The doctors say I’m going to have a son.”
I screamed my own joy, not caring about being held in as I should be. My life would soon be full, a wife who was mine and made for me, as well as a son.
Noin, I mourn you, but I now release you. Guide my family; protect my son and my wife, for you are our angel. You brought us together.
