Summary: This is a sequel to, 'Cowards.' ( You don't need to read 'Cowards' but, it might
make more sense, and a little easier. ) Problems are happening in paradise. Can Trowa, and
Wufei work it out? Read and find out!
~*@*~
It was a hot July day as the sun beat down. People either hid their air-conditioned homes,
or crowded at the mall for ice cream, and other cool treats. Hardly any movement unless it was
completely, and utterly necessary. It was a heat wave.
All except for one man, who was in the grassy area of a park, practising his martial arts.
His well-placed moves were swift, and graceful, though he you looked closely you could see the
strain, and stiffness in every move. He was angry.
No. Wufei wasn't angry. He was royally pissed off! For Wufei had another argument with
his lover; for the umptieth time this week. About what? He really couldn't remember. It always
started on something silly, and got heated as it continued. Working its way to a fight till finally
one left in a huff.
Wufei wasn't really sure. He, and Trowa got along great for the first two and half years.
As of today it was about 3 years. It seemed as though the past 6 months the black hole opened,
sucking them in. It seemed that they fought, and argued about anything at least once a day. It was
almost mandatory.
He, and Trowa moved back together after admitting their feelings to one another, and
went back to partners; becoming lovers. Everything was great for the first few years. Wufei felt
as though he was on cloud nine. He hadn't ever been happier in his life.
Things started to become normal, and comfortable halfway through the second year. Duo
joined the Preventers full-time, and so did Heero, as an agent. He wasn't Relena's personal guard
anymore. The Manguanacs did that now.
Quatre, and Relena were married a year ago at 20. Quatre, and Relena would move
between his mansion, and hers. The people were happy with the marriage between the pacifists,
though all the Gundam pilots, and friends were a little surprised. Everyone though she loved
Heero Yuy. They were surprised that Relena didn't marry Heero, but they were obvious close
friends. Then again the visits, and obvious love between Quatre, and her made it quite obvious
after the announcement of their engagement.
Millardo seemed to be happy with the marriage. He, and Noin were still hiding, and were
engaged. However, they would often visit Sally, Relena, and the others. Millardo was pleased
with Relena's marriage to Quatre, and even happier when it was nothing other than friendship
with Yuy. He always had something against Heero. No one really knew why . . . I don't think
even Millardo, himself, knew either.
People were surprised when Duo joined the Preventers. He sold his part of the sweeper
business to Hilde Schienbecker, and left L2. Everyone thought they would get married because
they were so alike. Then again maybe too alike. However, that didn't dull the surprise.
Then there was Catherine Bloom, Trowa's sister. During the first year she gave them a
surprise visit. It was then Trowa admitted his sexuality that didn't surprise her, and then told her
that he, and Wufei were lovers. Wufei could remember her happiness. He liked the older woman.
She took him under her wing as she did with Trowa, making him another one her little brothers.
He really liked the woman.
Wufei panted for breath after he stopped. Sweat pouring down his face; the sun beating
down on his olive skin. He reached up, and whipped his arm across his forehead. He was tired,
and his anger was drained. He felt faint, and unwilling to engage into another argument with his
lover. He often wondered why they started in the first place.
Wufei shook his head, and gathered his shoes. After tying them he started to leave the
park at a snail pace in the smoldering heat, to his, and Trowa's apartment. He walked very slowly
because it was hot. He was probably going to pass out before he got there. Though he also was
nervous to what, he would return to. Sometimes it was better to stay away.
Finally he was before the door of their apartment. He sighed, and shook his head as he
stood there. It was ridiculous. It was as much as his apartment as it was Trowa's. For after they
got together, he had moved back to their original apartment.
Stretching his lips into a thin line, he reached out to the bronze knob, and turned it. He
tentatively entered their apartment to be met with silence. Slightly relieved, and disappointed, he
let out a breath of air, and threw off his shoes.
Deciding to have a shower he started to walk to the bathroom but, then saw the figure
sitting in a chair of the living room in the corner.
There sat Trowa. He was studying Wufei with slight regret, sadness, and as always love,
deep in his emerald depths. He sat crossed legged. His legs were bare since he wore black shorts
with a white tank top. He outwardly looked calm, though Wufei knew, like all the other
makeups, Trowa was nervous.
"Barton." Wufei stated, standing stiffly as he said his lover's last name. Wufei was hurt
like all the other times. This was his way of telling Trowa that he was still angry, and tender from
their argument.
He saw Trowa grimace, and continued to glare. Trowa ran a hand through his bang, and
sighed. Wufei knew that he had also exchanged harsh, and degrading words as well. He knew
that Trowa was also still hurt, and probably still a little angry. Though Wufei was more so
because he was the one that had walked out.
"Wufei . . . please sit. We need to talk." Trowa said, gesturing to the empty, dark green
couch. Wufei just shifted his standing position, and crossed his arms. Trowa smiled wryly as
Wufei let out a huff.
"Well then. . . . talk." Wufei bit out. He saw Trowa close his eyes, momentary. Then the
emerald green eyes he loved so, returned to his stern face. He could feel the love flow to him, and
he knew that he returned it.
"I want to say I'm sorry. I had no right to say all those things. I hate to say it but, I really
don't remember what the argument was about, do you?" Trowa asked, as he got up with a cat's
grace out of the chair, and to stand a few feet before Wufei. His face showing his regret, and
sorrow. However, the small smile wast, at, and loving as he joked a little to lighten the mood.
". . . . no. I don't." Wufei sighed, as he let his arms drop. He saw Trowa nod, but did not
come forward or offer anything more. He had already apologized. "Trowa . . . I apologize. The
words I spoke, and the names I called you, there were unnecessary, and unusually cruel. I said
them in anger. Please accept my forgiveness." Wufei sighed as he looked down, almost bowing
at his lover.
Wufei felt long, deft fingers touch his face. He looked up into the warm emerald depths
as they shone with the love for him. A smile caressed Trowa's lips as his hands removed the little
elastic from the ebony locks, and combed their way though. Wufei closed his eyes with the
affectionate touch.
"I love you, Chang. No matter what you, or I say." Trowa whispered across his lips.
Trowa's warm breath caressing his face. Wufei opened his eyes. He knew that the love he felt for
Trowa was palpable in his eyes as they held the gaze.
"I too, Barton." He said with affection. Ridiculing his harsh statement using his last
name. He smiled as Trowa lips finally touched his own. The passion that was first shared in the
argument was being put to better use.
Wufei let his hands run down the sweat damp chest of Trowa till he came to the hem of
his shorts. With a smile on his lips as he kissed Trowa, he pulled the shirt up, and pushed his
hands up the sweat slicked chest.
As their tongues duelled, and Trowa ran his fingers through his hair, he ran his palm over
the hard nubs of Trowa's nipples. This caused Trowa to gasp, and Wufei to fully push his tongue
into Trowa's mouth, winning the duel . . . again.
"I think the heat is getting to us." Wufei offered pulling away for air, indicating the
arguments between them. Trowa seemed a little peeved at Wufei's underhanded move to win the
duel, and pulled off Wufei's sweaty, blue shirt off.
"What do you mean?" Trowa asked after the shirt was removed, and ideally ran his
fingers down the bare, sweaty chest.
"The heat wave." Wufei said with the slight suggestive undertones. He also meant what
was starting between them at the moment. Trowa knew what he meant, and smiled impishly.
"Really? I guess that explains everything!" Trowa said, somewhat seductively. Wufei
just captured Trowa lips in a soft, but a wanting kiss.
"I was going to have a shower . . . " Wufei said, suggestively as he placed his hands on
Trowa's hips. Trowa smirked, and wrapped his arms around Wufei's neck.
"Hm?" Trowa asked as he nuzzled Wufei's neck. Wufei let his hands down lower, and
gently squeezing the globes below, causing Trowa to moan as he gently rocked his hips. Their
obvious, erecs ges gently rubbing one another.
Interrupting the peace, and the moment, the shrill ring of the phone echoed throughout the
room, and ringing in their ears, causing both to jump. Wufei grumbled, and Trowa sighed.
"I'll get it." Trowa muttered, and walked to the phone. He answeredas Was Wufei followed
a little behind. He knew instantly that it was an important call by Trowa's change of look, and
voice. "Hold on Heero." Trowa said, and placing his hand on the receiver.
Wufei felt a wave of jealously, and anger hit him. Heero. Heero Yuy. Trowa's good
friend. Best, you could say. The one that Trowa often ran to when he left after a fight; the one he
would talk to for advice. Heero was the jam, and Trowa was the peanut butter. Who the fuck was
the bread? Him? Chang Wufei?
"Important?" Wufei asked, trying his best to keep the anger, and jealously out of his face,
and voice. Heero was often the subject that began or at least was a part of their arguments. He
wasn't fully sure why but, he knew that Trowa, and Heero were indeed good friends. He was also
good friends with Heero, but for some reason, no matter what Trowa said, he felt intimated, and
threatened by Yuy. Mostly with his relationship with Trowa.
It wasn't that he didn't trust Trowa, for he did. It was the connection between the two. It
was strong, and close. They knew each other well, and Heero could bring out sides of Trowa that
he couldn't, let alone knew. He knew that Heero had helped Trowa to what he was today, just as
Trowa had helped him, and Heero. It was the connection seemed . . . closer than what he shared
with Trowa. But he was the one that had Trowa's love, and was the one with him at night.
Making love to him, and whisper sweet nothings in his ear, not Heero.
Not matter what Trowa said and did, Wufei felt threatened. It was something in Heero's
deep prussian blue eyes. The promises, the care, and the bond he had with Trowa. Yes, Trowa
saved his life, and over the war they seemed close but, what was it that was so deep in the
prussian blue depths? Heero always hid it, made it disappear, or turned away before Wufei could
read or understand what it was. Though Wufei knew it was there.
Wufei was good friends with others too, and whenever he brought up Yuy in a fight,
Trowa would bring up Duo Maxwell. Yes, Maxwell was his partner after, Trowa, and he decided
after the fights started that they should get new partners. Thinking that maybe they needed some
away time, though it really didn't seem to be helping. Actually, it seemed that it was making it
worse. Especially since Heero was Trowa's partner.
Actually on various occasions on his own, Heero would talk to Wufei, and help him with
his relationship with Trowa. Wufei would ask why, and Heero would say he wanted Trowa
happy, and didn't like seeing him sad, or angry. Heero was funny that way, and did indeed help.
However, the fights never seemed to stop, or get better. Though Heero said, they were probably
just going through a stage. Wufei, sincerely, hoped so.
"Yes." Trowa nodded. Wufei sighed, and said goodbye to his happy hour for the moment.
"It's about our mission. Go have your shower, and I'll make dinner." Trowa said, smiling, and
giving Wufei a quick kiss before turning back to the phone.
Wufei just nodded, and walked to the washroom. Pulling off his shorts, he turned on the
shower, cold. With a sigh he stepped into the shower, and let the cool water tame his hormones,
emotions, and his temperature.
He hoped that this stage of fights would end, and Trowa, and he could move out of this
hole. To move on, and back to what they had the first few years but, there was a sense of doubt.
He prayed, and wished it would just end.
Wufei heard the echo of Trowa soft, musical laugh. He could feel his stomach twist with
jealousy at the sweet sound. He sighed. He couldn't make Trowa laugh, not like that. He
sincerely hoped that this jealously would leave, and the two could move on.
Wufei closed his eyes, and titled his face to the water. He had a pang of doom in his
chest. It wished for the end of this stage so dearly. Was it just a stage? No. No matter how much
he wished, hoped, and prayed, he knew that it wasn't. . . .
~*@*~
Wufei sat clenched, arms crossed, and titled back in the passenger side of the black jeep.
His face taunt in a scowl with his eyes closed. He reached up to stroke a throbbing temple.
Between Duo's singing with the radio, and this morning's argument with Trowa, he had a
migraine . . . for three.
After his shower, and a fabulous dinner, that Trowa made. They sat in front of an action
movie, cuddling. Their last argument in the past as the comfortable night went on. Then to a
night of moans, gasps, and love.
Wufei had a bad dream, and woke up a half an hour early. He couldn't remember the
details of the dream, other than he woke up disturbed, angry, and depressed; this creating his
mood for the day.
Trowa woke up with his jerked movement, and asked what was wrong as he yawned.
Wufei just grunted, and got up. Trowa confused, and followed, asking again. Again Wufei
refused to elaborate. Causing Trowa to get frustrated, and made a comment about that their
squabbles often started with one or the other not sharing their feelings, or thoughts.
Wufei, in a bad mood, told him it was the opposite. It was because they shared their
emotions, and thoughts too much. Trowa scowled, and went to have a shower. Wufei went to his
room to dress in his uniform, for he had a shower the n bef before. After Trowa got out, also
preparing to go to the office.
Wufei continued his evil mood at the breakfast table, and all the way to work, till finally
Trowa snapped. On the way to work it was a full-out, swearing, earsplitting argument. To think it
started all with him having a bad dream.
Now here he was after Trowa got out in a rage and slammed the door shut, with his
partner Duo Maxwell as they drove to their next mission. It was a fairly easy mission, and he was
thankful for that. He really didn't need any more stress.
"Trouble in paradise?" Duo asked, turning off the radio as commercials came on. Wufei
inwardly groaned. Was Duo asking him about Trowa better than singing? Which was the lesser
of the two evils?
No denying. Wufei considered Duo a friend, and cared for him but, Duo was the complete
opposite of himself. Duo liked to talk, sing, and cover any silence with some noise. He didn't
mind other times. He actually found it interesting, and intriguing. It just that today he didn't
want or need it.
"Hn." Wufei grunted, not moving as Duo sighed. Duo, and Heero knew of the problems
between Trowa, and himself. Actually they were often part of the argument, and the ones that
they ran to with their problems.
"Funny actually. You guys, are still going at it, so that must be a good sign." Duo
murmured, almost unhappily. Wufei snapped his head to Duo. Duo grinned and continued. "First
you two were at it like rabbits! Now you two are at it like a dog, and cat! At least the passion is
still there!" Duo said, shrugging.
"I'm glad someone is getting some enjoyment out of this." Wufei muttered dryly as they
speed down the highway, like a bat out of hell.
"No. More like a lion, and dragon fighting for superiority." Duo mused, nodding at his
own philosophy, and ignoring Wufei's comment. Wufei arched an eyebrow at the Shinigami.
"Could we drop it? I'm not in the mood." Wufei murmured under his breath, and looking
out the window.
"Sure! Eh, man, if . . . . ya know . . . need to talk . . . I'm here." Duo said, almost
blushing. Wufei looked at him with a quirked eyebrow.
"You?!" Wufei asked incredulously. Duo was more mouth then ear. Duo just sighed,
forlornly in response as his blush deepened.
"I do have ears, unlike popular belief." Duo muttered under his breath. Wufei snorted,
and turned to look out the window. "Sometimes it's good to get it off the chest. Besides I have
been in your situation before. Twice actually!" Duo grinned as the continued to drive.
Wufei looked at Duo from the corner of his eye. He had always found the other pilot
attractive, and entertaining but never really considered asking advice from him; not relationship
wise. Though he was probably one of the only pilots that had continuous relationships.
Duo wasn't a whore, or slut, just a typical young teenager. Well, now a man, but he had
been in many relationships; before, during, and after the war. He was the only one that really had
hobbies outside of the war that had nothing to do with the war.
Duo then switched the radio back on, and started to sing the song. Wufei sighed, and
leaned back to close his eyes. It was going to be a long-g ride there.
~*@*~
It was the later that day, after the mission, that Wufei, and Duo were sitting in a dinner
eating dinner when Wufei decided that he did need to talk about his relationship with Trowa.
Partially because after Duo's comments he began to wonder. What was his and Trowa's
relationship? Was it fake? Or were they just going through a stage, like many others had said?
Wufei decided that he needed Duo's, truthful, opinion.
"Maxwell? Can I ask you something?" Wufei asked, pausing. He held a shrimp in his
chopsticks as his partner stopped, and swallowed his mouthful.
"You just did." Duo said, smirking. Wufei narrowed his eyes, starting to lose his nerve on
asking Duo. His relationship with Trowa was very personal, and Wufei liked to keep personal. . .
. personal. "Only joking! Shoot!" Duo said, noticing his friend's uneasiness, and smiled
reassuringly.
"Does . . . what do you think is wrong with Trowa, and me? Do you think it is a stage or
something else?" Wufei asked, frowning. Duo sighed, and rubbed his forehead.
"A lot of relationships go through bumps. It just took you guys longer to get to one then
others but, it happens!" Duo shrugged, his violet eyes serious.
"So, you think it is just a stage, or bump, like everyone else?" Wufei asked, taking
another bit of his meal. Duo took a drink, and sighed.
"I can't really say. I guess it depends on how strongly you feel toward Trowa, how deep
the relationship is, and how big the bump is." Duo said, watching Wufei. Wufei frowned in
understanding, but trying to answer the questions himself. "How deep do you think the
relationship is? How big do you think this bump is?" Duo asked, compassion in his eyes.
"I love Trowa, and he has told me many times that he feels the same way." Wufei stated,
nodding. Not noticing that a cloud had floated over the violet eyes with displeasure at his words,
but quickly pushed it away to help his friend with the relationship, not destroy it. "The bump . . .
I don't know. We have been fighting like this for some time. That is why we got new partners.
We thought it would help but, I think it has gotten worse." Wufei said, sighing. A deep scowl in
his face.
"'Fei I think you have to understand something. Something that I have learned overtime."
Duo sighed putting his glass down. Wufei looked at him curiously. "We, as humans, fall in love
many times in our life. Many different kinds of loves, with different people during different times
of our life. We change, so the people we are attracted to change. Changing the person we fall in
love with." Duo explained seriously.
"What do you mean? Different loves? You can love more than one person? I thought
there was only one for you, your soul mate." Wufei said, frowning at his confusion. Duo sighed,
and rubbed his forehead again.
"'Fei, I was once told that the heart has many rooms, and each can and will be filled at a
certain time in your life. You never forget any of them as you grow, and become who you are but,
there is one, in the end, you love, and spend the last, and longest part of your life with." Duo
frowned at his own explanation.
"I don't exactly understand. . . ." Wufei said, scowling at Duo. Confusion, and
misunderstanding written all over his face.
"Okay. 'Fei have you ever felt, or thought you were in love before Trowa?" Duo asked,
bluntly. Wufei blinked.
". . . .Meiran, my wife. . . . I suppose." Wufei said, loving yet hating the name at the same
time. Duo nodded.
"Have you ever forgotten her? Do you still feel an affection for her?" Duo asked, tapping
his finger on the table.
"I have never forgotten her. I suppose I still feel strong emotions to her, though she is
dead. She was my wife, and I guess I loved her as a friend." Wufei said, taking a sip of his drink.
"Okay! 'Fei! She was your first love!" Duo said, throwing his hands in the air. Wufei
arched an eyebrow at him. "Look! I have already had three loves myself. One while I was at the
orphanage, Heero, and then Hilde." Duo shrugged taking another bite of his meal. Wufei choked
on his drink.
"Yuy?!" he asked, incredulously. Hilde he could understand, and knew about but, Heero?
When, and where the hell did this happen? Duo was gay? Heero was gay?
"Heero, and I had a fling during the war. I loved him, and he loved me but, it didn't work
because we were so opposite. I think they are other reasons as well. At the time we were hiding
behind our shells for protection, we were young, and we comforted each other in times of need.
We grew up, and unfortunately, apart. We are still good friends, and he will always have a place
in my heart but, we can never be together again. It's just like that." Duo shrugged, smiling
fondly. Wufei blinked.
Wufei wasn't sure what to say. He only saw a close friendship between the two. He never
saw love, or any other sexual care. They hid it well. Then again Heero wasn't exactly the most
affection person in the world. Heero was a mysterious character, especially during the war. They
were opposites; the talkative, and the silent, but both were rebellious. Though now they were
different. Heero was a little more talkative, and cheerful, and Duo was a little more quieter, and
serious.
"Then Hilde. She's great! We were close for a few years there but, again it didn't work
out because we were still growing. We were young, and weren't really sure what we wanted. We
are too much alike, and it just got boring. We started having fights about small things because we
were bored. It livened things up! So we broke it off. I still love her, like I still love Heero. They
will always have a place in my heart but, it can't, and will never be." Duo murmured, leaning on
an elbow.
Wufei took this all in. It seemed to make sense. Before he would have scoffed at the loud,
obnoxious, talkative pilot because he thought the Duo knew nothing. Before Wufei, considered
him all mouth, and no brain. He now knew differently, and had a deep respect for the pilot. His
shell was to take everything as a grain of rice. Wufei now knew that Duo took almost everything
to heart. That's why he didn't, and hated, lying.
"Do you think that is what's happening with me, and Trowa? That we have grown out of
each other?" Wufei asked, somewhat timidly. He really didn't want to loose Trowa, then again if
it was that, could he continue living a lie?
"'Fei . . . I truly can't say. You guys did get together pretty young, and you are still
growing but, some people grow together instead of apart. You can fall in love with the person
you thought you hated, or never belong with because of that." Duo sighed, moving some rice
around on his plate. Wufei pressed his lips together in a thin line. He wasn't getting straight
answers. "This is something you, and Trowa have to figure out." Duo sighed, shrugging.
"Is that all you can say?" Wufei asked, sharply. He wanted answers. He wanted a yes or
no, not a maybe or so-so. It was either black, or white, not grey, . . . right?
"'Fei, I'm only informing you about love. I am information, and an ear, not an opinion. I
will not sway you either way. I can't pass judgement on whether you, and Trowa belong together,
or not. That is something you, and Trowa have to talk about, not me, or Heero, or anyone else.
Talk to Trowa." Duo said, wearily.
"Hn." Wufei grunted as they finished. He now had a lot to think about, and a lot to talk to
Trowa about. What was this with Trowa? Was it real? Or had they grown apart? Was Trowa just
another one to fill a room in his heart like Meiran had? Or was he one that he was to grow old
with?
Wufei didn't know, and Duo wasn't going to help him. He had to talk to Trowa. Maybe
together they would figure something out. Maybe they would get over this bump, and everything
would be all right again. If he only knew what the bump was. . . .
~*@*~
Trowa was sitting quietly in a coffee café a few blocks away from the Preventers office.
He was waiting for Heero, who he said he would meet to go to their mission. Heero had top aop at
Quatre, and Relena's mansion for a quick check over the security. They were away so Heero said
he just wanted to check the cameras and officers, and then meet him at the café.
Trowa offered to come, but Heero knew that Trowa was distracted and his mind wasn't
getting any rest. He knew that he wasn't getting enough sleep, and told him to sleep in. Trowa
argued till Heero glared at him. He wasn't intimated by Heero's infamous death glare, but Trowa
just didn't have the will or energy to argue.
So here he was, the next day at noon at the small café. He was near a window, people
watching, as he was lost in his thoughts. He took a sip of his coffee, and looked out the window
with his chin leaning on an arm. A lot had happened in the past few weeks, almost a month.
He, and Wufei weren't fighting as often, which was good, but it was because he wasn't
there to make an argument with. Wufei alw always out, busy, or asleep. Not only was their
relationship seemed to be going down the drain, but the sex was also.
That what it was now. It was sex. Not love, or making love, it was sex. There was no
emotion, gentle caresses, or warmth on a mental level now, when they did do it. It was just no
words, or caress, they would just take each other; no real warning or seducing anymore. It wasn't
fun. It was almost a chore, or demand now; just meaningless, and a release. It seemed that it
didn't mean anything, any more.
Wufei was still partners with Duo, but it seemed closer then before. Like some link had
been attached between the two of them. One that he couldn't touch. Wufei was often out with
him. Yes, there were partners, and had missions, but this was after. They would spend time
together off work.
Trowa knew that it had been testy waters between Wufei, and Duo, but the relationship
just seemed to morph into something else. Something stronger, and closer. As much as he hated
to admit it, he was jealous. Not to mention, the two looked good together. They seemed well
suited, which only increased his jealousy and suspicions.
Wufei would often stay overnight at a hotel, or stay with Duo for dinner. He would call,
and say that it had gone longer than expected, or he didn't see the sense in running home for
dinner when he and Duo can just grab something. Wufei was never a person that liked to go out
to eat. Wufei preferred eating in.
Trowa would just agree, yet inside he was seething. Wufei seemed to be a complete
different person with Duo. He didn't mind sleeping in hotels. Didn't mind eating out. He seemed
to actually enjoy it. With made Trowa even angrier.
Also sometimes Wufei would return after an outing out with Duo, and his breath would
smell of alcohol. Wufei wasn't drunk, but he had obviously been at a bar with Duo. Which also
got to Trowa. Wufei seemed to be a complete different person with Duo.
On a few occasions, Trowa decided to pressure the issue. He would ask what he did with
Duo. Where they went, and how it was. Trying to find out what was going on. Wufei would
answer, but get testy till they got themselves into another fight. Or Wufei would walk away,
refusing to continue the conversation Trowa was pursuing. Which would only fuel Trowa
suspicions.
Trowa had a thought, and a fear that Wufei was cheating. He couldn't see Wufei cheating
on him, but he was getting so close to Duo that he wouldn't be surprised. Wufei had a lot of
honour, and was very righteous, even now after the war, so he couldn't really see him doing it.
However, the suspicion was still there.
Also Trowa saw the way Wufei would look at Duo. It was a lot like how Wufei looked at
him when they first started their relationship. It wasn't exactly the same, but it was obvious
Wufei found Duo attractive. Given, Trowa thought Duo was also attractive, but something in
Wufei's gaze made him skirmish. Wufei felt something else for Duo, and it was strong. Trowa
was jealous, and felt extremely threatened. Trowa wasn't sure how to react to all of this. Other
than to be jealous, angry, suspicious, and, most unnerving of them all, relieved.
Trowa felt relieved that the fighting had almost come to an end, but it was stopping for
the wrong reasons. Wufei seemed to be moving on. Trowa wasn't sure what to do, or say
anymore. What was he to do? It seemed to be ending, yet he couldn't release the threads of
Wufei. He just couldn't release them. Wufei still meant too much to him to just release them, and
move on. He still loved Wufei.
Trowa sighed, and wrapped his hands around the warm cup. He closed his eyes, and
brought the cup to his mouth to sip the warm liquid. He could feel the hot liquid caress and warm
his insides as it journeyed to his stomach.
It was then he heard a man walk in. He didn't need to open his eyes to know who it was.
He knew instantly that he was the man he was waiting for. He could tell by the silence, and aura
that was emitted by the figure. It was a mysterious, rebellious, violent silence; something he
could relate to.
Trowa opened his eyes, and looked across the small round table to see Heero lower
himself into the seat. Heero gave a nod, and a smile, which was unusual for him, but he seemed
to be more open around him. Heero looked even more rugged, and astray them normal, though
there was quite a wind out there. However, Trowa couldn't seem to help, but admire the deep
prussian eyes, and unruly chocolate hair.
Trowa had always been attracted to Heero, then again who wasn't? Heero was just
desirable to everyone, one time or another in their life. It was the mystery that surrounded him. It
was so . . . intriguing.
"How did it go?" Trowa asked, after the waitress placed Heero's coffee before him.
Heero was shaking a packet of sugar so he could open it for his coffee. Surprisingly, Heero had
quite a sweet-tooth. Duo had said it was probably because he had missed out on it all in his
childhood. There was no argument.
"Just a few minor adjustments. Nothing major." Heero said, shrugging as he went for
another sugar package.
"Hn." Trowa nodded at him agreement. He took another sip of his coffee, and started to
slip into his thoughts again.
"Trowa?" Heero probed just as Trowa drifted off. Trowa snapped his head, and looked
into the imploring prussian blue eyes. "What's wrong? You seem . . . preoccupied." Heero said,
stirring his coffee with an orange stir stick. Trowa just sighed.
"Just thinking." Trowa muttered, into his mug as he took another sip. Heero took out the
stir stick, tapped it on the edge of the mug, and placed it on a napkin. He took a sip of it, and
nodded at his approval.
"About Wufei. How has it been going?" Heero asked, as he leaned in his chair with an
arm over the back, the other on the table holding the mug with one strong, lean hand. His legs
were outstretched. One under his chair, while the other was out straight across the floor to the
window, out of the way of passing costumers. He was a complete picture or relaxation, and sex.
Desire, and seduction seemed to frame him as he sat comfortably. Though Trowa didn't see it.
He was too lost in his own thoughts to see what was before him.
Trowa sighed, forlornly. He took another sip of his coffee, and swirled it around in the
mug, watching it as it made a whirl pool. He was completely unaware of the appreciative looks
there were receiving, from both women and men. Both were exceptionally attractive young men.
Unfortunately, for all the women, they were gay.
"I don't know. I guess I'm just suspicious, and jealous. I know it is ridiculous and
childish, but lately Wufei has been spending more time with Duo then he has with me." Trowa
said, being unusually open. Though he was with Heero all the time. Heero, and he had an
exceptional connection just like Wufei and Duo. Both of which saw the other, but not the one in
front on them.
"They are partners." Heero stated, arching an eyebrow at Trowa's comment. Trowa and
Wufei had broken their partnership, and gotten others, Duo and himself, because of the fights.
Now the fact that they weren't partners was a fight?
"Yes, but I mean after work. Instead of coming home for supper, he usually goes out with
Duo and grabs a bite to eat before coming home. Or instead of coming home, he'll stay at a hotel
with Duo because the mission went later than usual. I think it is fuelling my jealously and
suspicions, justifiably." Trowa said, scowling, almost sarcastic.
"That's unusual. Wufei doesn't particularly like eating, or staying out." Heero murmured
into his mug as he drank his coffee. He knew that Trowa would be harsh, and blunt because he
was feeling vulnerable. Trowa never seemed to be afraid to show any sort of emotion before him.
Others he would close up into his shell.
"No shit sherlock!" Trowa spat, and instantly regretted when he saw that look Heero gave
him. Heero just peeked from around the edge of his mug with raised eyebrows. "Sorry." Trowa
muttered, and shook his head.
"It really seems to bother you. Why? Do you doubt Wufei's love for you?" Heero asked,
trying his best to seem unemotional. Like the anser didn't matter. Though the answer would
change everything. Only if it was the one he hoped for . . . .
" . . . I suppose I do." Trowa said, looking out the window. He watched the city pass on
by, living their lives. His problems were something everyone dealt with once in their lives.
"Heero, do you think Wufei is cheating on me?" Trowa asked softly, not turning his head.
Though he sensed, and heard the quick movement of Heero's head.
"What do you mean Trowa?" Heero asked, softly and in his ever deep, nasal voice. So
many things were running through his own head that he was barely paying attention. Trowa let
out a rush of air, nosily. He then turned to face Heero.
"I mean, do you think that Wufei is cheating on me with Duo?" Trowa asked, his face
impassive, though he was breaking inside. It hurt to even consider something like that.
"Trowa? No. Wufei has too much honour. He is too righteous to go and cheat on you.
Besides, Duo is a friend. Duo wouldn't let him, or participate. Duo would only be with him if
Wufei was single and offered a relationship. Duo doesn't lie, and doesn't like deceiving people."
Heero explained, shaking his head .Trowa let out a sigh.
"I just don't like this Heero. I still love him, but I seem to be nothing to him. Love has
been replaced with sex. There is not feeling anymore. What is he feeling? How does he feel?"
Trowa asked. Heero's eyes clouded at Trowa's sadness.
"Don't you think you should be talking to Wufei about this?" Heero asked, whispering.
Trowa scowled, and sighed, shaking his head.
"I can't talk to him anymore." Trowa mumbled, and then biting his lip. Heero sighed, and
rubbed his forehead.
"Trowa. Maybe you making a molehill into a mountain. Maybe Wufei is rekindling a
friendship with Duo. They never got along well during the war, maybe Wufei is trying to make
up for it, and become friends with him." Heero suggested, sounding fake as he said it. Mostly
because he knew it was more.
"Hn." Trowa scoffed, shaking his head. Heero ran a hand through his unruly lock of hair.
"I don't think so Heero. Something is going on. I bet that Wufei will call me any minute - " as
Trowa spoke his cell-phone rang. He quickly grabbed it as Heero arched an eyebrow.
"Barton here." Trowa said, answering the call. Trowa had a bad feeling that it was Wufei
telling him he was going to stay out with Duo to get dinner. He could feel the jealously ripping
through him like lion wanting to be set free. Though he shut it away like he always did.
"Trowa. It's Wufei." Trowa could hear Wufei's voice. There seemed to be a
breathlessness to it that made Trowa narrow his eyes.
"Hi Wufei. Is something the matter? You seem breathless." Trowa stated, looking at
Heero, who sat still, and emotionlessly. His hand covered his mouth as he leaned on the palm
with his elbowing resting on the table. His prussian blue eyes watching Trowa like a hawk.
"Oh? Well, I'm a little busy at the moment laug at at Maxwell, but I wanted to call you
before you, and Yuy went out on you mission." Wufei said, chuckling some more as Trowa
narrowed his eyes even more. He couldn't make Wufei laugh like that!
"Laughing?" Trowa asked, softly. Wufei didn't hear it as he continued to laugh, and call
at Duo to shut up. If Trowa's eyes weren't already green, they would have turned it.
"Anyway, I wanted to let you know that we'll be late again. It's taking us a little longer
then expected. I'll miss supper, so Maxwell and I are planning to pick up some dinner on the way
home, all right?" Wufei said, obviously not hearing Trowa. His voice a lot calmer as he talked.
Trowa could still hear Duo in the background.
"I'll see you after dinner?" Trowa asked, smiling wryly at Heero. Almost saying, 'I told
ya so!' Heero didn't move, or blink.
"Hai. Is that all right?" Wufei asked, his voice steady. Trowa rubbed his forehead with his
long fingers. Trying his best to work the pain, hurt, and jealously out of his voice as he spoke.
"Hai. Yes, that's fine. I'll see you later tonight then." Trowa said, warmly though it was
fake. Heero's eyes were still studying him as he spoke.
"Okay. Bye." Wufei said, hanging up before Trowa could respond. Trowa smiled wryly,
as he looked at the table top.
"Bye." He whispered. There was no, 'I love you' or 'see you later' or any other saying
that he was looking forward to seeing him like it was before. Now it was almost like a young
child asking his mother to go play. Soon as permission was given there was no care to what
happened to the mother. The child ran along on his/her marry way, not giving much damn what
happened to his/her mother.
"Wufei is eating out with Duo again." Heero said rather than asking as Trowa hung up his
phone, and put it in his pocket.
"Hai." Trowa said, glaring at the table top. Again Wufei left to fto fend for himself.
Wufei didn't seem to care anymore. Will two can play at that game . . .
"We better go." Heero said, standing up. He pulled out his wallet, and threw a few bills
on the table to pay for the tab.
"Heero? Would you like to eat at that new restaurant after we finish our mission? I'll be
eating alone, and so will you, so . . . ?" Trowa offered, standing up. He had already paid for hisn con coffee.
"Trowa, is this your way of revenge?" Heero asked, staring straight in Trowa's green
eyes. Trowa didn't waver from them.
"Maybe. Though I'm tired of eating alone. If he can eat out with friends, then why can't
I?" Trowa asked, shooting a question back.
"Hn." Heero grunted as they left the café, walking to Heero's car. "Yes. Let's go to the
new ruranurant. I need to get out, and so do you." Heero said, nodding at his own assessment.
"I'm glad you approve, Yuy." Trowa muttered dryly as Heero unlocked his midnight blue
Mercedes. Heero chuckled.
"Well . . . ? I don't want to make the problems you are having with Wufei any worse."
Heero said as they climbed into the car. Trowa snorted.
"I don't think they can get any worse. Besides, you did a longtime ago when you agreed
to be my new partner." Trowa mumbled as they snapped their seatbelts. Heero turned to key, and
started the car, scowling. This was something new. He didn't know this.
"Hn?" Heero asked. Trowa just grunted back, and looked out his window with his arms
crossed. Heero took his cue, and shut up. Trowa didn't want to talk about it anymore. Trowa
didn't want to tell Heero that Wufei felt threatened, and jealous of him. Heero would just laugh,
and say how ridiculous it was. Because it was. There was nothing other than friendship between
them.
Heero didn't mind the Trowa's silence, and refusal at the start a conversation. That was
why the two had gotten along so well. They both liked silence, and grunts spoke and meant more
than words.
Heero glanced at the tall stoic pilot. As much as he wanted him, he didn't want to hurt
him. If Trowa wanted Wufei, he would support that. He would support his best friend in
everything he did. He wanted Trowa happy. That was all that mattered.
Even if he wasn't the person making Trowa happy.
~*@*~
Wufei came up the stairs to his, and Trowa's apartment, and went to open the door, but
found it was locked. He scowled at that, and fumbled for his keys in his pocket. Finally he pulled
it out, and unlocked the door.
Wufei walked into the dark apartment, and looked at the clock on the microwave. It read,
8:47 pm. He was confused. Trowa was supposed to be home hours ago. Where was he?
Wufei then ped ped on the living room light, and walked over to the flashing phone. He
ignored it for a moment to check for Trowa in the bedroom, but it was also empty. He returned to
the phone, and pushed play to listen to the messages.
The first one was a stupid phone company offering a 'supposed' better deal if the hook up
with them. The second was Lady Une reminding him, that he, and Duo have a meeting with her
Monday morning at 10:30. The third was Trowa.
"Wufei, it's Trowa. I'm not sure when I'll be home, but I'm out with Heero. Things are
going a little later than ususal so we are going to eat on the way home. I should be home
somewhere between 9, and 9:30. Bye." Then was the click of the end of the message. Wufei
frowned.
Funny, Wufei thought as he sat in the large, comfy chair pulling off his jacket, I never
thought of of of being to run late, and eat out. He has always been the 'Perfect Solider'. Then
again, we have all changed. I don't know Yuy as well as Trowa does.
Wufei just sighed at that thought as he tossed his jacket on the side of the couch. He
wasn't jealous about Trowa, and Heero anymore. He was just tired. Weary of all the fighting,
anger, and jealously. It was getting ridiculous.
Things had really changed in the past month. Nothing was what it used to be. He couldn't
look at Trowa the same way anymore. He was constantly judging him, and making notes. It was
like a constant observation. Duo's words were plaguing him, causing him to do this, yet they
were giving him comfort as well.
Maybe because it was an excuse for the fighting. He still loved Trowa, and always would,
but Duo told him that there was other kinds of love. Love had many different definitions, and
many things to offer. Wufei knew now that what he felt for Trowa had changed. It was still love,
just not the same as it was in the beginning.
Things with Trowa weren't the same. Love wasn't the same tender love they had before.
It was . . . . sex. It was just a comfortable deep friendship that elevated to sex on occasion. Which
was another thing. They hardly saw each other anymore, and making them sleep together less. In
the past week he had slept with Trowa once. A year ago it was at least every night. Wufei
wondered if Trowa noticed these changesP>
P>
Wufei sighed, and rubbed his temples. The cool breeze from the chilly evening blew in
from the open window beside Wufei. He knew why his relationship was going down the drain
with Trowa. It was Maxwell. His partner.
It wasn't directly his fault. It was because Wufei was seeing him in a different light. He
was attracted to Duo. He was having trouble with Trowa because he would see, or imagine what
Trowa would do if he was Duo. Duo wasn't ever far from his mind. Duo was extremely good
looking, and he saw it during that war, but during the war he saw Duo as a brainless joker that
knew no consequences. He now knew who wrong he was.
Duo Maxwell was anything, but brainless. Being a joker was his shell. Just like Trowa's
was a silent, stoic pilot, and his own a justice freak. It was all they had left, and to hold onto. It
was their security blanket. It covered all their insecurities. He thought he was well-matched with
Trowa, but now . . . . Wufei began to question it.
Now that he and Trowa came out of their shells, they didn't seem as capable as they first
thought. They had grown, and seemed to be too alike in some ways, and completely opposites in
others.
Wufei felt more comfortable around Duo. Duo could make him laugh, and let him be who
he really was when they were alone. Just like all the other pilots, he pulled on his shell on an
regular bias, but with Duo he hardly had to. Not to mention Duo seemed to accept everything
Wufei gave him. Even if it was completely ridiculous. Even by Duo's standards.
With Trowa, Wufei still had to hide. There was still some things, and feelings he had to
hide from him. Though with Duo he was free. He felt closer, and come connection with Duo.
One that he used to feel with Trowa, but as Duo said, he had probably grown up and out of
Trowa instead of with.
This is when it hit Wufei. He was avoiding Trowa. He was afraid of revealing his true self
to Trowa, but did it on a regular bias with Duo. He was uncomfortable with Trowa. Wufei didn't
feel like he belonged with Trowa anymore.
Do I want to break up with Trowa? Wufei asked himself, blinking. It was so obvious. He
could feel his logic nodding. That was what he wanted, and had wanted for the past 7 months.
The fighting started because he had grown out of Trowa, and subconsciously pulling away and
starting fights. All this time he wanted out. It was a bump or stage, it was a cliff.
Wufei frowned. He, and Trowa had gone through unnecessary pain, and agony. What he
had with Trowa was special, but he wanted more. Trowa had taught him a lot, and made him
who he was, but he wanted something more. At the moment he wasn't even sure what he was
looking for.
Wufei snapped his head up as he heard the jingling of keys. They went into the lock to
unlock the door, but already being unlocked it just locked, and unlocked again. The door then
open to reveal the tall, mustard brown haired, emerald green-eyed lover Wufei had wanted for the
longest time, and had, but now felt didn't. Funny how things work out. You want what you don't
have, and once you have it, you don't want it.
No. No, it wasn't like that. He and Trowa had grown out of each other. They had taught
each other the first steps to living. To showing emotion. To live without guilt. To live normal
lives with love, affection, and care. To feel, to love, and to be loved. Not to live in guilt for what
they had done growing up. To lose their fears, and regret. To live.
"Wufei? You're home." Trowa said, putting his keys back in his pocket, and shutting the
door. Wufei didn't move, but nodded.
"Hello Trowa. How was your evening with Heero?" Wufei's asked, emotionlessly,
though a million thoughts, and emotions were running through him at his new found truths.
Trowa stopped his movement, and clenched his body, scowling. One foot was off the
ground slightly out-stretched as he removed his shoe to put beside the other in the closet. He
narrowed his eyes. How could Wufei dare to question his evening out with a friend, when Wufei,
himself, has been doing it for the past month?!
Trowa slammed the closet door in response, and spun around to glare at a slightly
surprised Wufei. Trowa clenched his fists at his side. He went to retort, but stopped. His face
went completely cold, and emotionless. He relaxed, and walked into the kitchen. He fell back
into his shell because he didn't want to face what was to come. He knew that his relationship
with Wufei was on thin ice, if not already drowning.
"Trowa?" Wufei asked, getting up out of his chair. Trowa was doing it again. Trowa
would hide behind his shell whenever he was afraid of the consequences, or of his opponent.
Something was wrong, and Trowa had something to say, but was afraid to say it. Wufei knew
that Trowa saw the problems too, but was afraid to confront them.
"Trowa? What's wrong?" Wufei asked again as he entered the kitchen. There was Trowa,
who wouldn't look at him, emptying the dish washer. "What were you going to say?" Wufei
asked, still at a monotone pitch as Trowa continued to ignore him. "Trowa! What is your
problem?" Wufei asked, angrily, grabbing Trowa's arm.
Trowa looked up at him, and glare. They stared at each other. Each getting angrier, and
angrier. Just like they did in all fights. Trowa wrenched his arm free, and slammed the glass his
was holding onto the counter. It was a surprise the glass didn't shatter at contact.
"What's wrong?" Trowa hissed. His green eyes glowing in anger as Wufei stared at him
evenly. "I'll tell you what's wrong. What's wrong is the fact that you question my going out to
dinner with a friend. When you go out with Duo Maxwell almost every night of the week! I never
see you any more!" Trowa said, getting louder near the end. Throwing his hands up in the air in
helplessness as he fumed.
Wufei blinked, but didn't let his surprise show. He wasn't questioning the fact the Trowa
stayed out to eat with Heero. He simply asked, friendly, if he had a good time! He was surprised
that Trowa jumped him like that. Not to mention angry.
"Oh! And it's all my fault that we hardly never see each other! Sorry Barton. I apologise
for never being here, though I am when you're not. I guess I should make my schedule to revolve
around you!" Wufei said, pissed. Sarcasm biting at every word.
"That's not what I mean!!!" Trowa growled. With a sigh of exasperation he pushed past
Wufei, and stomped out into the living room, which Wufei followed him.
"Then Barton, what exactly do you mean? Because frankly, I am confused. Like you, I
have work and I can be here all the time. Sometimes things don't work out as planned." Wufei
said, from behind Trowa with his arms crossed. He watched as Trowa paced the room, seeming
to be thinking about his next response.
"Wufei . . . . why have you all of a sudden started stating out late with Duo? Staying out
to eat out, or stay at a hotel because you're running late. You used not to be able to spend
anymore time than you had to with Duo, and came home to eat no matter how late, or hungry you
were. Now you seem to prefer to eat, or stay out with Duo. What made you change all of a
sudden?" Trowa asked, turning to look straight at Wufei. His voice was quiet, but full of
conviction.
" . . . a-all of a sudden?" Wufei stumbled, feeling like a kid with his hand caught in the
cookie jar. Mostly because he wasn't sure if he could tell Trowa. He didn't want to break up with
Trowa in a fight. He'd rather talk to Trowa, and work it out. Stay friends, not become bitter
enemies.
"The past month, Wufei! The past month! You think I wouldn't notice or care!" Trowa
asked, incredulously. Taking Wufei surprise, and guilt for all the wrong reasons.
"Notice or care, about what?" Wufei asked, frowning. Trowa rubbed his forehead, and
swore under his breath.
"Notice or care that you are cheating on me." Trowa said, simply not looking up at Wufei.
Wufei stopped short. He blinked in shock at Trowa's accusation, and then the anger flared once
again.
"Cheating on you?" Wufei asked incredulously. He was outraged that Trowa would
think such a thing! He was positively outraged!
"Yes. You have, haven't you? That's why you are always late. That's why our love
making is nothing whenever we have it. It makes complete sense Wufei. I just wish I'd seen it
earlier." Trowa said, more to himself than Wufei. Sadness had taken over his voice, though
Wufei didn't notice as he blew up.
"So it's all my fault again, is it! It my fault our love making is nothing more than sex!
It's my fault I'm out late! It's my fault we are fighting! It's always my fault! And you and Yuy
did absolutely nothing!" Wufei spat, and snarled at his lover, who seemed just tired, and weary of
the situation.
"What does Heero have to do with this? I'm talking about you, me, and Duo." Trowa
said, evenly. He hid his tiredness behind the mask of indifference, though he was hurting inside.
"Maxwell?!" Wufei hollered, completely taken off guard. Trowa snapped his head up,
and stared at him with slightly surprised at Wufei's bellow. "Is this your way of asking for some
kind of kinky threesome, or are you accusing me of cheating with Maxwell?!" Wufei spat,
clenching his fists at his side, glaring dangerously.
"All right, Wufei! You want to know what I think. I'll tell you." Trowa said, poking his
finger into Wufei's chest. Wufei stood his ground, and glared at Trowa, waiting. "I think you are
cheating on me with Duo Maxwell. You have been eating out with him, and staying overnight to
sleep with him. I think you, Chang Wufei, are cheating on me, Trowa Barton, with Duo Maxwell,
your partner." Trowa said, emphasising each word he spoke with a poke in Wufei's chest.
"Trowa, you are completely disallusional." Wufei mutter shaking his head, as Trowa
glared at him. "Is this your way of breaking up with me? Because of it is, I have to say it is very
cute. Blaming it all on me." Wufei said, quietly. The anger suddenly leaving his body.
"This is not my plan to break up with you, but I think you want to." Trowa whispered. He
could feel his heart breaking. He watched as Wufei's head titled down.
"I'll be honest with you. I wanted to break up with you tonight, but not for the reason you
are accusing me for." Wufei murmured, his head down, ashamed. Trowa stiffened at his words.
"Get out." Trowa hissed, he could feel the tears coming to his eyes, and wished Wufei
would go. That way Wufei wouldn't see the tears, the pain, or the heartbreak. Wufei already had
the upper hand in this situation.
"Trowa - " Wufei started to say as Trowa started to walk away. He reached out to
Trowa's retreating back. He didn't want it to end this way. Not so ugly, as he reached out to
touch Trowa's arm. The arm flinched away from his touch, but Trowa didn't turn around as he
spoke.
"Just get out Wufei. It's over. You can go to Duo." Trowa said, softly. He kept his back
turned, and waited. Wufei went to retort that he was not cheating on Trowa with Duo, but he
knew it was useless at this point.
Wufei let out a silent sigh, slipped into his shoes, and grabbed his coat
