You Won\'t Be Mine

Notes: AAAAANNNGST,
Went to see Matchbox Twenty in concert on Thursday night. OH MY GOD, they
were SOOOOOO GOOOOD!!!!! Anyway, they played this song and the lights and
everything just came together and my muse thwapped me with a two
by four and I haven\'t been able to get this story out of my mind. Here
goes, it\'s my first song fic, so be kind.
Disclaimers: I don\'t
own the song, nor do I own Gundam Wing. People with lots of money do.

Duo
was bored. He was also lonely. No one was around, they had all left
to go do something in town. Quatre had left strict orders that he
was not to do anything \" strenuous\", meaning nothing fun. Duo rubs
his bruised ribs ruefully. They only ached, but not too bad. Sighing,
he rolled out of bed. Dressed in a white button down shirt with the sleeves
rolled up and an old pair of black jeans faded to a charcoal grey, his
hair in the customary braid, and bare feet, he padded over to the door,
quietly opened it, and stuck his head out. No one was in the hall way.
Making his way to the stairs, he briefly debated the wisdom of leaping
the bannister, and decided against it. On impulse, he slipped into the
music room. No one would think of looking for him here, if they even thought
to look for him. He snorted, \' Admit it, why are you really down.\' He knew
why, today was his birthday. The day Father Maxwell had found him. It became
the day someone cared for him. As near as anyone could figure, he was about
seventeen, give or take a year. He smiled bitterly and glanced out
the window. The wind was picking up. That could only mean a storm was coming.
He opened the windows and breathed in the air. Yep, he could smell the
rain riding the clouds. The day was taking on a definite grey cast. Good.
No one would hear him in here.
Duo
moves all the furniture and instruments away from all the windows and then
turned to look at the Baby Grand. Tentatively he ran his fingers over the
keys, loving the sounds that followed. Somewhere along the road of life,
he had learned how to play the piano. If he could get to one when
he was feeling down, it always helped him get over his funk. It wasn\'t
a talent the others knew he had. He didn\'t exactly broadcast it, the way
Trowa and Quatre did. He snorted at his own cynicism. \' Your mask
is falling down. Do I even care at this point? It\'s not like anyone will
see.\' He sat on the bench and slowly began to play, and as the storm rolled
in, he added his dusky tenor to it\'s voice.
\"
Take your head around the world
See what you get
From your mind \"
He
remembered the church, and Father and Sister. Solo, the kids.
\"
Write your soul down word for word
See who\'s your friend
Who is kind\"
Deathcythe,
Quatre, the innocent one. The battles, all so bloody.
\"Well
it\'s almost like a disease
And I know soon you will be
Over
the lies, you\'ll be strong
You\'ll
be rich in love and you will carry on
But no - oh no
You
won\'t be mine\"
Trying
to laugh all the time, to make the others forget, just for a little while.
Being pushed away, always pushed away. A tear dripped down his nose, and
outside, the storm blew in.
\"
Take your straight line for a curve
Make it stretch, the same old line\"
The
mask he wore, faded, chipped, and painful. Sometimes it hurt so much to
smile, but he kept smiling.
Outside,
the storm broke with a vengeance, blowing through the open windows.
\"
Try to find out if it was worth what you spent
Why you\'re guilty for the way
You\'re feeling now\"
No,
it wasn\'t worth it. But he knew nothing else. Outside, a car pulled
up and the front door opened, just as a strong gust of wind blasted the
music room doors open.
\"
It\'s almost like being free
And I know soon you will be
Over the lies, you\'ll be strong
You\'ll be rich in love and you will carry on
But no - oh no
You
won\'t be mine\"
Heero,
wanting to show the Perfect Soldier that he was human and good, deep down.
Quatre
was the first to hear the music.
\"Take
yourself out to the curb
Sit and wait
A fool for life\"
Duo\'s
lips twisted. He really was a fool, wasn\'t he.
Outside,
the wind and rain howled, and he raised his voice with theirs.
The
little group huddled in the doorway and saw, for the first time.
\"
It\'s almost like a disease
I know soon you will be
Over
the lies, you\'ll be strong
You\'ll
be rich in love and you will carry on
But no - oh no
You
won\'t be mine\"
Duo,
eyes shut, head thrown back, tears trekking down his face, crying out the
words while the storm accompanied him. Quatre was the first to back
away, pulling the others with him. Heero was the last to leave, the only
one to hear the last sobbed out.
\"
You won\'t be mine\"
fin.

I couldn\'t give that
a happy ending, it would have ruined the whole thing! Well, did it suck?
C&C\'s please, I live on them. And thank you to all who have written
me! I love the comments. As always, flames will be used to light my barbecue.
Hehe. Bye guys.
