A Quick Fix

In response to a challenge by exodia...

Also yes Im aware Den is, in fact, a female in the manga and anime. Call it creative license in order to make things more interesting. And yes... I havent updated this in 3 years. I got lazy. But there's an update now... so rejoice!

"Den!" Winry Rockbell called from the doorway of her grandmother's small countryside house. "Den, supper!" Winry took a step out the door and peered off into the seemingly endless fields and hills. "Den?" The young mechanic squinted her eyes while shielding them from the sun's rays with her hand. "
'Now where could he have gotten off to?' thought Winry. 'He's not one miss a meal.' It was then that she spotted him hunched over at the bottom a small hill to her far left.

Den was a middle aged crossed breed dog with black and white fur. He was actually Ed and Al's dog, but with them off in Central City with the rest of the State Alchemists, Winry was left in charge of him. In terms of size, he was about middle of the pack compared to other dogs, something that Winry was thankful for every time she had to force a bath upon him. He had lost his left front leg as a pup, but had a replacement automail limb that he was more than capable of getting around with. Yet at the moment, he lay whimpering in the field, unable to get up and walk.

"Den?" Winry asked in a concerned yet inquisitive tone. As she approached the dog, she noticed that his automail leg had shattered, probably from a fall from off the hill. 'He must have been there for a long enough that he stopped trying to get up" thought Winry as she sensed he appeared perfectly content to lie there until some found him "YOU STUPID MUTT! That's the third time this month!" Although she was shouting at the animal, Winry was more upset with herself and her automail. In her mind, it was a failure on her part for not building a leg strong enough for Den. "HOW CAN YOU KEEP BREAKING THIS LEG? *sigh* Oh well... I'll just have to fix it again." With that she bent down and scooped up the dog in two hands and walked off towards her workshop.

Upon entering, Winry lay Den upon the main table in the workshop before heading over to the wall. On the wall hung a large collection of automail limbs; arms and legs of all sizes. 'Hmm.' Thought Winry as she came upon the animal automail. 'Now which one should I try this time. The heavier one would be more durable, and probably last longer than last time. But the lighter one would allow Den more movement and agility.' Despite still being upset with the failure of the previous automail leg, Winry was actually somewhat glad it did break. It allowed her a chance to work on her passion for mechanics during an otherwise slow day. When Ed wasn't home, she only rarely got the chance to work with live flesh with her automail. "No, no, no. Too heavy, too light. Too short." the young mechanic muttered to herself as she went down the line of limbs. Finally she arrived at one that appeared best suited for the job. Not particularly heavy, but still strong enough that it would even be a challenge for Ed to break.

"Ready Den?" called Winry as she spun around, automail in hand, and faced the dog who was currently trying to lick where his lost limb would have been. As she drew closer, Den let out a slight whine and backed up on the table. He had been through this procedure enough times to know that it hurt enormously, even if it was only for a short time. "Oh get over it you whimp. Unless you're fine hobbling around on three legs from now on." Winry knew that attaching automail to one's nerves wasn't a pleasant experience and did feel bad for the pain it caused Den, but what was she to do? Den needed the limb. "Lie still! Unless you want me to strap you down, lie still!" she commanded while wrestling with the mutt. Finally she had him pinned against the table with one hand with the automail in the other.

"It will be over soon, no problem." Winry said softly as she tried to calm the animal. Honestly, the dog was almost as bad as Ed was. "Ready, One... Two... Three!" And with that Winry connected the mechanical leg to Den's body. As the nerves connected, Den let out a whelp of pain that grew into a howl. After about 10 seconds it died down and Den lay there panting on the table. Winry too, was fairly worn out after trying to restrain Den long enough to fully attach the automail. When she regained her breath she turned back to the dog who was whimpering softly.

"Hey. It's ok. It's done now." Winry hopped up onto the table and sat down next to Den. She had learned a while ago that the unlike Ed and others she had met with automail, Den needed someone to calm him down after this process, otherwise he would just lie there whimpering for hours. "The pain's over with." cooed the girl soothingly as she began to stroke his fur from the top of his head down to his neck. "You'll be fine."

She sat there petting the dog and relaxing him for a bit, stroking his head, scratching behind his ears, etc. for a while before her mind began to wander. Not only was this calming for Den, but Winry herself found the feel of the dog's soft fur running through her fingers to be quite soothing. Without paying much attention, her hands had been slowly working its way down the animals body and she was now giving him a a two handed tummy rub. At this point Den was feeling much more relaxed as his mind had been driven from the soreness in his leg and was now happy enough to enjoy this treatment.

As Winry continued to rub, her mind was now completely gone from the dog and drifting off towards Central City with Ed and Al. Ed was always such a baby when it came down to it. 'Baby as in a short, tiny, and small anyway' giggled Winry as she had a laugh at Ed's insecurities. Still, at least she never had to pet him every time his automail was replaced. 'Not that I wouldn't mind doing it' she shook her head, unsure of where that thought had come from. Meanwhile, as Winry was off in her semi-daydream state, her right hand had continued it's trend downwards and had just reached a rather precarious area. As she continued to rub, Den perked up at this new sensation as his master's hand now was rubbing right against his sheathed member. As the dog lay there in ecstasy, Winry continued her semi daydreaming. For the longest time she had been in denial about her feelings towards Edward. The guy was a klutz, stubborn, and a pain to be with at times, yet for all his flaws he had plenty of redeeming qualities. She was always sad when he would come home only to leave her again. She wished he was there with her, comforting her. Kissing her. 'What am I thinking??' Winry scolded herself internally. "Ed means nothing to me" she said out loud while shaking herself back into reality.

"I really have to stop losing myself in thought like that." she told herself again. "Hmmm? What's this?" puzzled the girl as she now became aware of her wandering hands. Her right hand was now stroking Den's semi-erect penis gently, moving up and down along the length of his shaft. "Oh Den! I'm sorry! I wasn't thinking." she apologized to the dog quickly. "I really didn't know what I was do..." she stopped mid sentence, as she realized her hand was still stroking Den. "...ing?" 'Why haven't I stopped?' thought Winry, it was as if her hand had a mind of its own. She gazed down at Den and her hand curiously. 'He's huge' thought Winry, and indeed the dog was, over 7" of Den's shaft was removed from his sheath now, and it was growing more by the minute. 'Stop it' the girl thought embarrassingly, 'this is wrong.' Yet Den appeared to be enjoying it, turning her attention to the animal's face he looked to be having a great time. Worse still, was she enjoying it? 'No,' thought Winry 'I'm not. But he does appear to like it, and he isn't whining anymore. Maybe I'll just keep going a little longer until he's ready to get up.'

The young mechanic continued her rhythmical stroking of Den with a sort of reluctant fascination. Winry knew this was something that she shouldn't be doing and so she averted her gaze, yet at the same time she couldn't control herself from stealing a peak at the dog's lengthening member. She always was curious of the intricacies of machines and other mechanical devices; taking them apart, discovering out how every little piece fit together, and figuring out how all it all worked. This curiosity of hers, while most obvious around machines, wasn't limited to the realm of cold steel and iron. Winry had an intense desire to know how things and people worked, and it was this drive for understanding that kept her glancing at Den and his growing red shaft that she was now gliding her fingers over.

It was fascinating to her. Den's member now must have been over 9" by her estimates. It was hard to believe that something so large was only moments ago completely concealed by the animal's sheath. Winry wondered just how big it could get. His penis was already large enough that she had trouble closing her hand completely around it as she stroked. She never would have guessed that something so massive could have ever been contained so easily in such a small package.

'Small package,' thought Winry, 'just like that pipsqueak Ed.' She suppressed a laugh as her thoughts once again turned towards the young state alchemist. Ed had always been short tempered as a kid, and he never grew out of it. 'He never grew at all,' she laughed to herself. Winry loved to tease Ed, and over the years she had gotten very good at it. The slightest mention of his height would send him over the edge. She felt bad sometimes, but the twerp often had it coming. 'Small package.' Winry pondered for a second. 'I wonder how big Ed would get.' Her face suddenly turned bright red. 'What the hell is wrong with me?' She did not want to know these things about Ed. She didn't think she did anyway. She was a bit curious though. But that was completely different than wanting to see Ed naked or run her fingers through his golden hair. And she definitely did not want to feel his body against hers, lying in the dark with her head pressed against his chest and listening to the soft and soothing beating of his heart. Nope. Above all though, she did not want to be kissing Ed, feeling his lips brush against hers, pulling her deeply into a warm embrace.

Winry had completely lost herself now in longing. As much as she tried to deny her feelings for him, she finally found began to realize just how lonely she was. And finally with a great sigh, she allowed the barrier of denial inside her mind to come crashing down. She liked Ed, and maybe more than that. 'Its okay,' she comforted herself, and as if giving herself permission 'let it out.' Winry cried. She missed Ed, and more than anything she wanted him there with her.

At this point, Winry had stopped her caressing of Den, and had collapsed, quite helplessly, into pile on the floor. She sat with her left leg tucked inward with her left arm resting motionless upon her knee. Winry's right leg stretched outward, supporting her right elbow which in turn supported a head that was sobbing into her palm. Den, no longer immobilized by the girl's gentle touches, sensed the distress and turmoil within Winry, and jumped off of the table. He walked over to the sobbing girl, and gently licked her left hand. If an observer witnessed this and believed that animals can feel emotions, then they would see a truly loving act by the concerned Den.

The soft lapping on the back of her hand roused Winry back into reality. She looked up from her trembling fingers and into the green eyes of Den. "Oh Den..." she cried before embracing the mutt in a hug. Den began to lap the tears off her face as the girl continued to cling to animal as if her life depending on it. Winry didn't like feeling lost or helpless, she had grown up without parents to lean on for support, and had learned how to be self reliant at a young age. She wasn't used to needing others to help her. Yet, right now she needed someone. She looked back into Den's eyes with her arms still draped around the beast. Then, without thought or reason, she kissed him. She needed Ed to be there for her, and he wasn't. 'Maybe...' her mind began to justify this completely unexpected action, '...maybe I need this.' She kissed Den again.

She didn't know exactly what she was doing or where she was going with this line of thought, but at the moment she didn't really care. She did need this.
