Captured

Chapter One: Captured

Summary: Kira is captured by the Earth Forces. This is my twist on an overdone theme.

A/N: This is a story that was bouncing around in my head that I never dreamed I’d ever write. However, the bouncing eventually turned to throbbing and I caved and wrote it.

The ArchAngel was engaged in its fiercest battle ever. The Dominion and it’s three special mobile suits were firmly controlling the battle. With the ArchAngel occupied with the Dominion and Athrun by the Forbidden, Kira found himself fighting two very capable opponents. He skilfully rolled and dodged, avoiding the continual onslaught being directed at him. He was losing track of the rest of the battlefield, his concentration was consumed by the Raider and the Calamity. He did, however, know that the ArchAngel had sustained damage earlier, and was therefore in no position to support him. ‘But where’s Athrun?’ he wondered. Barely dodging a shot from the Calamity, Kira realized he needed help. He could not last much longer. The Raider swooped in and knocked the Freedom’s shield aside. The opening was just enough. The Calamity fired a devastating shot, decapitating Kira’s mobile suit.

Inside the cockpit Kira was panicking. He just lost most of his sensors, and was beginning to lose power. ‘Where is Athrun?’ his thoughts turning desperate. Kira struggled to maintain control over the Freedom. He had to retreat. He was no longer in a position to engage an enemy, and definitely not two. His only chance for survival was to return to the ArchAngel. “Kira here,” called Kira over a secure channel, “I have taken damage and must retreat. ArchAngel, do you hear me?”

“Copy that, Freedom,” was the crackly reply. He breathed a sigh of relief. At least they were ready for him. Now the only problem was making it back to the ArchAngel.

He continued to evade the attacks from the enemy mobile suits in his crippled machine, and had a clear path to the ArchAngel. “I’m going to make it!” he assured himself out loud. His confidence was crushed quickly. The Dominion intercepted him, and had all its guns trained on the Freedom, except the Valiances which were firing at the ArchAngel. He just barely blocked a mighty blast from the Godfreys. He had to get back to the ArchAngel… He discovered his guns were no longer calibrated and he was still rapidly losing power.

He made on last ditch effort to get around the Dominion. He accelerated sharply downwards, trying to escape by going underneath the new warship. They anticipated that move, and stopped Kira with a barrage of missiles. The Freedom was hit, and it’s fission generator shut down, and along with it, his armour. Kira felt practically naked. He was struck in the back by the Raider and he lost his propulsion. It was the end.

“Capture it!” was screamed over the radio by the pilot of the Raider. Seconds later, after being shaken by the impact of being grabbed, he was being taken to the Dominion. Signal flares were fired from his new prison just before he entered it.

‘It’s time to keep a promise…” thought Kira grimly as he remembered what he told Athrun in Orb. He initiated the Freedom’s self-destruct sequence. Mustering his will, Kira entered the password and the countdown began. However, before the timer was halfway through, something happened… something went wrong. The control panel blinked twice, and then died. “Damn it!” said Kira out loud in a hushed tone as he tried and retried to make it work. “DAMN IT!” he exclaimed when he realized it was no use. His brain scrambled to find another solution. His efforts were in vain. ‘I could eject…’ he thought to himself, ‘no, then they’d still get the Freedom and there’s a battle going on outside.’

The Freedom was rotated 180° and Kira knew he was entering the Dominion. He could hear the battle becoming fainter, and assumed the Earth Forces were withdrawing from the battle area. Several tense seconds passed before his mobile suit was placed on the carrier floor. Kira’s brain was still trying to find a possible solution-- any solution.

“Pilot of the Freedom, come out with your hands up. We will be forced to blow the hatch if you fail to comply!” came from outside the cockpit.

‘I’ve got to erase the data from the computer,’ determined Kira, and he quickly went to work on it. He knew that he could no longer prevent them from getting the N-Jammer Canceller, but without the computer data they would have to disassemble the entire mobile suit and then run very careful tests to figure out how the device worked. ‘And,’ he added, ‘more importantly, spend time doing it.’

“You have left us with no choice!” was yelled over a megaphone outside. Kira knew he had to work fast. The sounds of people moving on top of the Freedom were a great motivator. However, it also signalled how little time he had left to complete his task. ‘Come on… Hurry!’ Kira willed the computer to work faster. Drilling could now he heard-- it was now a matter of minutes. ‘Damn it,’ he thought after realizing he could not wipe the entire memory in time. ‘I’ll have to do it manually…’ It was difficult to find the deeply entrenched files, but he managed to locate and delete them just in time. A small but powerful explosion rocked the mobile suit. The hatch had been blown.

Light slowly started to percolate through the greyish-black smoke. Before the smoke was able to fully clear though, Kira was pulled from the cockpit but two sets of strong arms. He was hurled down onto the cold steel of the Freedom. His nose was bleeding from the impact and a heavy boot now rested between his shoulder blades. His arms were forcefully and unceremoniously placed behind his back and cuffed. Kira attempted to struggle, but stopped when the pressure on his back increased dramatically. He decided against fighting-- his watering eyes were obstructing his vision.

He was hoisted back to his feet, and was slowly being helped down. His handcuffs severely affected his ability to balance himself, and he was grudgingly thankful for the assistance. When Kira and his captors finally reached the floor, Kira allowed his instincts to take control. Acting on his “fight or flight” instinct, Kira tripped the man to his left and tackled the one on the right, knocking them both down. He was fully aware that he had nowhere to run, but that did not seem to matter at the moment. However, he soon came to regret his actions. Realizing it was too late to take back what he had done, he immediately started running back to the Freedom. His cuffed hands slowed him, and the other men soon caught him. Kira was brutally tackled from behind, and was jumped on by two soldiers. He bucked violently to try to get free, but his efforts were mostly in vein. He felt a slight stinging in his arm, and then noticed a third man with a now empty needle walking away. Soon after he felt all the strength leave his muscles and lost his ability to fight.

They hauled him to his feet. Two of the men held Kira upright while the third punched him in the stomach…hard. The force of the blow forced him to keel over. He was straightened by the men holding him and he was struck again.

Kira was exhausted from the battle, the fight he instigated, and now his beating. He was emotionally drained from the capture, and his last attempt to escape burned the last of his adrenaline. He suddenly felt weak, and had no choice but to allow himself to be dragged away.

He was tossed into a dark cell. ‘They didn’t even bother to take the cuffs off…’ he thought resentfully as he struggled to get up. He determined it was not worth the effort, after examining the poor excuse for a bed provided, and sat against a wall. He began to think: what would happen to him, what would happen to his friends, the ArchAngel, Athrun, and finally, his failure to protect the N-Jammer Canceller technology. It was at that moment that the gravity of his situation fully sank in. He did the only thing that seemed appropriate. He cried.

A/N: This will not be a happy fic for the first part. I’m telling you this now. As with all my stories, I have no idea where it will take me, or how it will end. Also note that this fic will involve a non-conventional pairing.
