A Dark Winter's Night
Author's Note: Check out the author's note in "A Cold Winter's Night." If it seems strange that both of this fics have the same beginning, that note should explain everything. Remember, this is just an experiment, so please, tell me what you think. For those that haven't read "A Cold Winter's Night," read it after you finish this. Enjoy.
A Dark Winter’s Night
It was a scene of beauty.
Snow fell upon the quiet city, snowflakes dancing in the air as they made their decent towards the earth at their own feather light pace. The air was quite chilly, scaring many people into the warm embraces of their homes or any building nearby, prompting them to either get a warm beverage to warm their bodies or cuddle up with a beloved significant other. The lights of the city only helped to light up the dark, starry night dimly, creating the atmosphere of a cold winter’s night that one might find in a picture or on TV.
Within the city itself lay a walled-in park, not a very large one as one could stand at one end and see the other quite easily. A small pond resided in the northwest corner of the park, a path of concrete circling it with benches set up at every other point. The few trees that graced this small piece of nature were covered in white from the snow that had piled up on their branches, that which didn’t hold up fall down to the snow covered land below.
In this park, sitting on a bench was someone that stuck out of this peaceful scene like a fruit loop in a bowl of cheerios. He sat curled up, his legs pressed up against his body, arms wrapped around the limbs, clutching them as if they were the only things keeping him adrift in the chaotic world that was his life. It was unknown how long this individual had been sitting on this particular bench but it must have been quite some time since snow had begun to pile itself on him. His hair was of indeterminable color due to this snow but a braid did slither from the young man and through and into the snow around him. His body trembled not just from the cold but with the emotions that were throbbing within him, exiting his body as a sob periodically escaped him.
Why was somebody like him, someone who was usually filled with energy and willing to share it, out in the middle of the cold winter night like this, tears streaming from his clamped-shut eyes, mucus running from his noise and drying on the pants that he wore?
The answer was actually simple, if you knew what had caused him to seek solace out here in the first place.
This young man was known to everyone around him as Duo Maxwell. He was only in his twenties, had a life of possibilities before him, just waiting for him to reach out for them, yet none of this held anything for him, be it meaning or something to look forward too.
You see, this braided man was suffering, not from a physical disease or a mental disorder. No, his suffering was more emotional. It the simplest terms, it could be said that he was heartbroken. Betrayed also worked, but mainly, he was heartbroken.
For the last few years, he had been living with the person who was not only his best friend, he was also the first…actually second to tell the truth…person that he had fallen in love with. Heero Yuy…sigh, he was strong, he was handsome, he was everything that he could ever want in a man and he made damn sure that the other knew about his attraction.
What could he say? He was a people person and he didn’t want to leave anything in the dark. He did that once before and it was already too late to correct that mistake. So, he made it known to Heero that he loved him, and not in a platonic way either.
Heero, though, was a stubborn one but Duo was a person who liked challenges. After some convincing, he managed to get the Japanese man’s permission to room with him and for the past couple years had been living in the same apartment. He had always believed that he had been making progress with Heero, no matter how little it seemed at the time. Heero had been warming up to him and could take the simplest of jokes when told.
After two years of making progress, Duo had gone out for a night on the town, a night that turned into the barest of window shopping instead of going to a loud party. In actuality, there weren’t any parties being held this fine night, thus he had thought that maybe he could get Heero a gift, something to once again express how much he valued him. He didn’t find anything but that was alright. He could come back later.
As he returned to the apartment, he heard the clichés odd sounds that one only reads about in books and crappy fiction on the internet and in the movies or television. Like a dunce, he had ventured forth to discover what the noises he heard was.
Now, he wished he hadn’t. He wished he had just left and pretended that nothing was going on. But he hadn’t and had found himself looking into Heero’s bedroom where he was busy having sex with Chang Wufei. Now, he could have handled that. It meant there was a chance that he could get together with Heero sometime in the future. No, it was when he caught sight of the third set of arms and legs and the strands of blonde hair that belonged to the one and only Relena Peacecraft.
While it was believed that he didn’t get along well with the blonde girl who had stalked Heero some time back, in truth he didn’t talk to her because he had nothing to say or talk about with her. However, there was no mistake that she didn’t like him for some reason unknown to him but seeing her wrestling around in that bed with the two other males, it was more than he could handle.
He didn’t do the classic attention-catching sound and alert them to his presence nor did he turn tail and run. As if in a zombiefied state, he turned around, pocketed his wallet and other such accessories, put his coat back on, and left the apartment, leaving his key behind. Let them make of that what they will, he didn’t care anymore.
How could Heero just string him along like that? He had never repelled any of his advances, as if telling him to continue with his attempts. Why couldn’t he had just said he wasn’t interested. Now, he had wasted so much time and all the other prospects that he once had were now closed to him. All he had now were the material possessions that he had accumulated over the years but that meant nothing to him. Without those, what did he have?
Nothing?
Was he to be alone for the rest of his life, destined to have nobody yet watch everybody around him gain the happiness that he so craved as much as the next person? Maybe he should just give up, give up and disappear so that nobody would have to suffer with him as a third wheel because that was all that he could be.
It was times like these where he reflected on his first love, the one that he hadn’t been able to confess to and thus loosing him forever. His name was Solo. That was it, no last name, no nothing. Solo was the person that he looked up to as a child growing up on the streets. In that place, there was no time for childish innocence, thus he already had had an idea of what lust was. It wasn’t until after Solo had died and he had been taken into the Maxwell Church that he had realized what it was that he had felt for the older street urchin but by then it was too late.
There was never a day that went by that he didn’t wish that Solo was still alive and at his side. Perhaps…perhaps he would have been able to…to…
Damn it was cold out here. Why had it taken this long to notice it? His jacket wasn’t thick enough for this but there was no place he could go or wanted to go to. It was just him tonight, as always.
Perhaps if he waited long enough…perhaps he would be able to see Solo again? Solo had always wanted to see snow. Maybe he could see him again once he froze up. Maybe Solo would come for him and lead him away from this piss poor excuse for a life. How long would it take to get hypothermia again?
He curled up into a tighter ball as a particular tremor shook his body violently. Oh it was cold. Were his tears frozen? Was all that snot frozen as well? Not that it mattered but he was curious nonetheless. It was funny how your mind could wander while in a state of depression…
Opening his reddened violet eyes, he briefly scanned his surroundings, on the lookout for the one he was waiting for, the one he was sure would come for him if he only just waited a little bit longer. But he was still alone but that was okay. He had patience. He would wait out the entire night if he had to.
The white winter wonderland around him seemed to be whiter than it had been moments before, as if some sort of wispy white mist had invaded the park and settled over it. The sound of snow being crunched beneath shoes caught his attention and he picked up his head slightly to look up at his visitor, if that indeed who it was. He had to squint his eyes as this stranger was dressed all in white and had what looked like long blond hair trailing after him. It was funny, the guy practically blended in with his surroundings. He was like some sort of walking traffic violation. How the hell could people driving avoid him when they wouldn’t know he was there until they were right on top of him? Honestly.
He settled his head back down, not even intending to keep an eye on his guest. He felt the bench beneath him shift as a source of weight settled on it, not even bothering to clear away any of the snow off the bench. Despite wanting to be alone, Duo welcomed the company. At least he wasn’t the only person who was out and about, all alone. Might as well start a club or something.
“What’s wit da long face?” the stranger drawled, sounding oddly familiar to the braided man. He hadn’t heard someone talk like that in a long time…
Despite this, he refused to answer, earning a chuckle from the stranger. Even that was familiar.
“So wat brings ya out here dis time o’ night?” the stranger asked, attempting to initiate another conversation with him.
“Waitin’ for someone,” he mumbled, not really wanting to say anything but willing to do anything to get this guy to stop talking to him.
“Funny,” the stranger commented. “I came here for somebody too. Haven’t seen um in a long time either.”
For some reason, Duo couldn’t help but feel like he could talk to this guy. Though he hadn’t taken a good look at him yet, he felt as if he was invited to tell the guy everything from the most mundane things to dark secrets hidden away long ago.
Yet there was something amiss about him, something not quite right. He just couldn’t put his finger on it…
“Hope you have better luck,” Duo mumbled.
“Thanks. I dink it workin’ already.”
Now, either it was him or maybe this stranger was really looking at him but he could swear that whoever it was was now staring at him with an intensity that he couldn’t describe. And he wasn’t even facing the guy either.
Finally lifting his head up to speaking to his speaking partner, his words turned into ash as he found himself held captive by a pair of green eyes, eyes that were twinkling with mischief and seemed to look straight into his soul and pick his life apart. Then he began to notice other details about this stranger, familiar details to be exact. The way that the guy’s smile was crooked, the way he held himself like he had nothing to lose, the way his hair just fell around his head just so…
This guy was gorgeous…no, more than that.
Beautiful…
The man chuckled at him, a deep rumbling that the braided man could feel vibrate through the bench itself and an odd sense of comfort fell over him. “See somedin ya like?” the guy teased and then it all clicked in Duo’s head.
“Ya looks like ya seen a ghost,” the not-so- strange stranger said.
He found that he couldn’t string any sounds together to form any comprehensible words. In fact, the closest he got to anything closely resembling human language was an “s” sound that he had yet to finish. The stranger continued to look down at him patiently, as if waiting for Duo to finally gather his wits and blurt out whatever it was that he was trying to say.
However, Duo gave up with that and tried a different approach, one that worked better than the previous. He threw himself at the guy and held onto him as if his very life depended on it. “You came!” he cried out as he felt the man’s arms embrace him tightly.
“Did ya doubt it?” the man said dryly, without any hard feelings.
Finally, basking in the radiance that only this person could ever give him, Duo was finally about to give a name to this miracle. “Solo…”
The now-named Solo smiled tenderly down at Duo and snuggled closer to the freezing young man. “Yeah, it’s me,” he said soothingly as tears began to escape Duo’s eyes. His hand rubbed Duo’s back in a calming manner, his body beginning to rock back and forth in a soothing motion. “Ya dun have to cry anymore…”
“Not cryin’,” Duo said into his chest.
“Of course ya ain’t,” Solo agreed.
“You’re here, you came back for me,” Duo sobbed, though he would deny it later. “Everything is just so…so…”
“Ssh,” Solo shushed gently. “Dey didn’t deserve you Kid. Dey dun deserve ya at all.”
“Are…are you gonna take me away?” Duo asked hopefully, looking up at his childhood mentor with the utmost admiration.
“I’m here, ain’t I?” Solo replied. “I’m not gonna leave here ta get hurt anymore Kid. I promise ya dat. Now wipe dose tears. I wanna show ya somedin.”
“Not tears,” Duo denied though he wipe his leakage away anyway. “Boys dun cry.”
“Of course dey dun,” Solo agreed as he stroked the top of Duo’s head affectionately. “Ya dink ya pulled yaself together now?”
“You bet.”
Pushing Duo away so he could get up off the snow covered bench, he held his hand out for Duo to take, which he did without hesitation. As he stood up, piles of snow fell off him and he began to wonder how long he had been sitting there. Hopefully not too long else he would waste precious time that could be better spent in the lovely company that only Solo could provide him. Solo began to swipe away any snow that hadn’t fallen off him when he stood up and Duo allowed him to. Sure, he could do it himself but to have someone else do it…sigh…
Taking Duo’s hand again, Solo began to lead him away and towards a park exit. The way that he was moving made it seem like the blond was a little kid dragging a parent over to see the neatest thing they have ever seen. As he let himself be dragged, Duo finally noticed how much taller Solo was but then again, Solo had always been taller than him. Why would now be any different? The white mist that had descended over them was slowly growing thicker yet Solo continued forth as if it wasn’t there. Since Solo always knew what he was doing, Duo let the blond do as he wished.
The next thing he knew, something had pushed him from a side, the unexpected attack causing the braided man to fall over onto the soft ground. There was only one person that Duo could think of that could have done this and he announced his suspicion for all the world to know.
“Solo!” he cried out. “What was that for?!”
A heavy weight landed itself right next to him and he found himself staring at the grinning face of Solo. Duo crossed his arms and fumed at the blond, though it was all in play since Duo couldn’t begrudge his friend this childish antic.
“You know we’re gonna get wet from this,” he drawled to the blond.
“Wat makes ya dink dat?” Solo retorted good-naturedly.
It was then that Duo noticed that they were outside in the cold anymore. He had no idea when they had gone inside or wherever it was that they were but they were both sitting on a floor covered with pillows upon pillows.
Baffled, Duo gaped. “How did…when…?”
“You think too much,” Solo teased, closing Duo’s mouth using a finger pressed under his chin. Then without warning, Solo lunged himself at Duo and topped him, trying to pin him down playfully.
Immediately getting into the spirit of this game, Duo fought back, rolling them so that he topped the blond and tried to pin him down. Solo was having that and thus pushed Duo back and off of him before tackling him. The playful roughhousing continued as the two young men acted like the little boys that they used to be oh so long ago, long before it was forcefully ripped and stolen from them by the cold, harsh nature of the streets of L2 themselves.
With a final roll, Duo found himself on top and using the strength that he possessed in his lithe frame, he finally pinned his old friend down, grinning goofily at the blond who had an equally goofy grin as well.
“Got ya,” Duo panted.
“Ya do,” Solo murmured, piercing green eyes gazing up at him affectionately.
Duo let himself fall down against the larger body beneath him, resting his head on the surprisingly broad chest of the blond. He mentally noted that Solo’s chest was not rising with each breath he took but it was a detail he immediately discarded. If this was any sort of dream, he damn sure didn’t want to wake up from it. Reality only held pain for him and it wasn’t something he felt like returning to anytime soon.
“Wat’s on yer mind, Kid?” he heard Solo inquired from above his head, his accented voice slipping into his ears.
“Dun wanna leave ya,” Duo murmured into Solo’s chest. “Wanna stay here forever.” It slipped his mind that he was falling back into old speech patterns that old G had tried to force out of him with no luck. How long had it been since he had just spoken like that?
“I dun dink yar goin’ anywhere,” he heard Solo tell him as his friend’s arms snaked around him.
“Huh?”
That was Duo’s eloquent response as he tilted his head upwards to look up at Solo.
“Ya’ll see,” Solo sighed. “Ya’ll see soon enough.”
Propping himself up, Duo stared down at the blond. “What do ya mean Solo? What’cha talkin’ bout?”
Solo just laid there in the mass of pillows, green eyes looking back at Duo tenderly but no answer was forthcoming. What was was the kiss that the blond suddenly initiated, his head lifting off the pillows it was on and closing the distance between his and Duo’s swiftly.
To say that Duo was surprised by this was an understatement but it wasn’t one that he questioned as he felt Solo’s lips massage his. Without a second’s more of hesitation, he responded to the kiss, his eyelids shutting as he focused solely on the sensations that were quickly overwhelming him. Solo’s tongue invaded his mouth, an invasion that Duo happily welcomed as his own tongue initiated a wrestling match of it’s own with the blond’s pink organ.
He felt Solo moving beneath him, flipping them over so that he was now on top instead of Duo, dominating the gentle kiss. He felt Solo’s hands slip into his clothes, removing the garments as soon as they could, ripping them off unnoticeably when needed. Feeling Solo’s bare skin press against his was not questioned whatsoever, not even some hard object that was pressing itself into his still clothed thigh.
Finally, Solo pulled away, leaving Duo to pant and gasp as much air as he could. The braided one couldn’t understand why the blond above him wasn’t suffering from oxygen deprivation as he was but that question was never able to be voiced as the once tender green eyes hardened.
Despite seeing the eyes, Duo did not feel as if he were in any sort of trouble or danger. It was as if whatever emotions his friend was feeling were directed elsewhere, at someone else.
“He doesn’t deserve you,” he heard Solo tell him. “He’s not worthy of you, Kid. I’m not going to let anybody hurt you again. I promise.”
Though he blinked dazedly, his mind picked up on the fact that Solo’s voice had lost its particular accent and dialect. He had spoken properly for the first time since he had known him. Perhaps Solo just wanted to show him how serious he was. Probably spoke the words in front of a mirror or something.
“Don’t leave me,” he whispered though and was treated to the sight of those lovely green softening again.
“You ain’t gotta worry bout dat,” Solo said, a hand cupping his cheek and a thumb stroking it. “I ain’t gonna be leavin’ ya anytime soon, Kid. Never again.”
With that, Solo dove back down and claimed his lips again, hungrily devouring them. Duo felt his lower garments suddenly tighten then rip away from his body, leaving him exposed.
And he couldn’t care less as an equally nude Solo grinded up against him. He felt Solo’s cock press against his own cock and rub against with such ferocity and the friction that was produced between the two hardened organs! He wrapped his arms around the larger body of Solo and hung on for dear life as the blond humped him with ever-increasing speed.
A pressure was building up in his gut, a familiar pressure that he usually received whenever he jacked off, which suddenly loosened and fled through his dick. Solo swallowed the scream of completion greedily, not letting Duo’s voice escape from him. Not stopping, Solo continued to thrust his hips into Duo’s, Duo’s cock coming back to life again.
Finally tearing his lips away from Solo’s to get some much needed oxygen, even though his lungs weren’t burning for it as they should by now, he buried his face into Solo’s broad shoulder, whispering Solo’s name as if it were a mantra. Suddenly, he felt Solo’s body above him tense and the blond’s body arch as the larger of the two reached his own completion, triggering Duo’s second.
He heard Solo cry out his name as the liquid mess between them spread and flow out between their bodies. Solo fell back down but prevented himself from crushing the smaller body beneath him by using his elbows to prop himself up.
“How ya feelin’?” he whispered gently, stroking Duo’s hair as he spoke.
Duo was still gasping for air but he nodded in the positive. What he had just felt…it was so amazing! Feeling Solo pet him as he was recovering was a nice gesture as well. For once, he felt as if he was actually loved, not for his looks or his fame, or infamy, but because he was just Duo, or Kid as Solo was always fond in calling him, and nothing else.
“I’m glad,” Solo murmured to him, “You deserve to feel good all da time.” With that he bent down to chastely kiss him again, going only as far as lip-to-lip contact but not going any further. Giving Duo a gentle smile, which Duo returned, a bit uncertain, Solo pulled up and away from him but not leaving him. Taking a leg, Solo rested the skinny limb on his shoulder.
Frowning in confusion, Duo asked, “What are you doing? Solo?”
Continuing to give him that gentle smile, Solo answered, “Just relax, Kid. I’m gonna make ya feel real good.” He took Duo’s other leg and rested it on his other shoulder and pressed closer to the braided one who remained lying where he was.
Duo felt something rub against his entrance, something solid. Eyes widening and looking up at Solo questioning, he froze, not moving a muscle. “Solo? What…?”
“I’ll be gentle,” Solo assured him, that gentle smile growing even more gentler, as if that was possible.
“But isn’t it gonna…?” Duo couldn’t finish that. He didn’t know what to expect anymore, at least not from Solo.
“Dun worry about dat Kid,” Solo said. “Trust me. I promised dat no one was gonna hurt ya again and dat includes me.”
“So it’s gonna…hurt?” Duo asked, a little shaky.
“It dun matter anymore Kid,” Solo said, sounding a little sad at that.
Before Duo had the chance to wonder about that, he felt Solo’s hands on his hips, Solo’s thumbs pressing up against his buttocks and pulling the two cheeks apart. The solid object that pressed against his opening slowly slipped further into the clenched hole and then began to press forward and further into him. Duo gasped from the discomfort but astonishing enough, felt no pain whatsoever. He had heard before that this was suppose to hurt if a person wasn’t “prepared” beforehand, whatever that mean. Yeah, contrary to popular belief, he knew little to nothing about sex, having been shielded from by Solo and others. Sure, he might flirt and seemed to be an expert on the topic but that was just plain bullshit, to tell the truth. But that meant nothing now that the person that he had admired and worshiped for most, if not all, of his life was now taking the virginity that he had managed to retain for so very long.
When Solo was fully seated in him, he remained still, not moving even though it seemed like he was willing himself not to do anything. It was at this moment that Duo noticed something odd about his friend. Even though he had that hard cock up his ass, the organ gave off very little heat, something odd to him. Now that he thought about it, Solo in his entirety didn’t give off much heat, no mattered how heated their activities became. But Solo wasn’t the only one like that. Now that it was at the forefront of his mind, he noticed that he too gave off very little heat. What did it mean?
As if reading his mind, Solo managed to blurt out, “Dun worry about it. Just dink about me, dink bout my dick inside of you, moving in and out…in…and out…” Applying action to words, Solo pulled out and thrusted back in slowly and gently, creating a slow pace for Duo to enjoy.
At first, it felt a bit weird but as he listened to the lull of Solo’s words, it was as if a spell was cast on him. He began to enjoy the movements that Solo was doing and the heat that was beginning to rise from the friction.
“Dink of fire,” Solo continued, “imagine it as I fuck you Kid. Just focus on me, just…me…”
It felt like there was a hot iron rod in his ass, one that was slowly picking up speed. Solo kept one of his hands on his hip while the other rested on his leg, still propped up on Solo’s shoulder, and continued to thrust into him, the thrusts becoming faster and harder.
Then Solo struck something in him that made everything flash white as an intense overload of pleasure overwhelmed him. He cried out in the midst of the pleasure, still unable to comprehend what had just happened to him.
“Fuck Kid,” Solo moaned. “How…old are ya again? You’re still so…tight…”
“Solo!” Duo cried out, his hands grabbing his unattended cock that had returned to its harden state during the previous proceedings and began to stroke it with vigor. “Harder Solo! Please! Faster…!”
“Fuck!” Solo swore but heeded the demands of the braided one, the sounds of skin slapping against skin finally becoming loud enough to be easily audible to him. He could feel his balls slapping against the unknown underbelly of Duo’s groin and groaned as the two orbs in his scrotum began to pull back up, readying their loads.
“So close…” Duo moaned. “Just a little more…oh God…”
Then Duo’s body tensed up and he screamed as he hit his climax, anal muscles slamming onto Solo’s dick and causing Solo to follow soon after a few more thrusts. Falling forward, Duo’s legs sliding off his shoulders, he came torso to torso with the smaller man, his head resting next to the spent braided one’s.
Lifting his head up, tears slowly leaking out of his eyes, Solo saw that Duo had fallen asleep, finally gaining the peace that he more than deserved. He hadn’t thought that Duo would have figured it out so soon and if he hadn’t, well then he would have to tell Duo about it. He didn’t think that this was going to be something he could keep away from him for too long.
Still, Duo probably wouldn’t have much to complain about it.
The Kid had been a god on Earth, the God of Death to be precise, but he, Solo, was his angel, his Angel of Death.
And he would be taking him back home with him.
No, he didn’t think Duo would object to that.
---
As the sun dawned on a new day, it met the world with one less person in it.
On a bench in a neglected park sat a frozen body, covered in snow that had piled onto it over the night, making it hard to spot out.
On the body that had once held the soul of Duo Maxwell was a smile. It was a smile that held joy and bliss, as if he had finally found something that he had long searched for, something that he had been unable to find while still living.
It was a smile that could never be taken off or fixed, a smile that would go with the frozen body as it was placed to rest deep into the cold, hard earth, surrounded by sorrow and misery of those that had once treasured and mistreated it.
There was no going back from this dark night.
