How angels are born * a sequel to ‘Guardian Angel’*

** author’s notes* This story is a sequel to ‘Guardian Angel’ and because the character of Virg is still in this story, I recommend you read ‘guardian angel’ first so you don’t get confused. In this story I tried to tell the story from more perspectives and tried to involve Heero and the other pilots more. Sorry Trowa and Quatre fans, but they still don’t make any MAJOR appearances in this story, but they still come in from time to time! Also Sorree to all you Relena haters.. I kinda added her to the story. I’ve tried to not make her like she has a stick up her butt like the series.*

PART 1
Dr J looked at the picture of the little girl on his view screen.
“Hmm... Why are there always some that want control? Treis died believing in peace.” He said to himself.
He emailed the picture to each of the Gundam pilots, hoping to get a reply from one of them soon.
“I feel that they are still the only ones who can do the job

“You’re going now? Relena’s birthday isn’t until the end of the week,” Wufei complaineDuo Duo picked up his backpack and headed for the door.
“I know Chan, but Hilde wants me to drop by her place first.”
Wufei raised one eyebrow.
“You and her could’ve made it you know.. She still loves you.” Wufei said
Duo smiled. He took his hand off the door handle and sat back next to Wufei on the bed.
“I know. Me and Hilde.. we had something going there. I pus pushing her away though. I didn’t want to get too attached during the wars because I didn’t want her to get hurt. She already does enough for me already.” Duo brushed Wufei’s cheek.

Wufei looked into the American boy’s eyes.
“Would you ever go back to her? I know you still love her more than a friend or a sister,” Wufei saw Duo close his eyes and bow his head. He continued, “Or is it the other girl that stops you from going to Hilde?”
Duo looked back up.
“She has a name you know.” He said, annoyed.
Wufei smiled.
“Does she?..”

“If you’re joking, that’s cruel...If you’re being sarcastic, .. that’s even worse!” Duo huffed. Wufei sat closer to Duo and put his arm around Duo’s shoulder.
“I’m just pushing your buttons to annoy you. So if u had to choose, who would you go back to? They both love you, you know.”
Duo picked up his backpack again. He opened it up and pulled out his black cap.
“I feel bad leaving you and Heero. You guys understand me because of everything we’ve been through,” Duo said. He put on his hat and stood up.

Wufei got up off the bed and stood up next to Duo. He re-adjusted Duo’s hat so it wasn’t on an angle and smiled.
“Heero’s probably going to end all this too you know. Virg wants to set him and Relena up again. Maybe that’s why Virg wanted to go with Heero when he bought Relena’s present. I think Heero’s going to help Virg pick out a dress to wear to Relena’s. You never know Maxwell, maybe she’s trying to get back with you,” He smiled.
Duo smiled back and kissed Wufei on the cheek.
“I have to go now. I’m supposed to be at the spaceport in an hour. See you at Relena’s!” he said heading out the door.

“Heero, what about this one. Relena should like it,” Virg said. She and Heero were standing outside a jewelery shop in the main shopping center. She was pointing to a silver necklace in the window. Heero shook his head. He pointed to the one next to it.
“This one?” He asked. Virg scrunched up her face. And shook her head.
“Maybe you shouldn’t get her a necklace. It’s so hard to pick one we both agree on. Maybe some clothes instead. My shop has some gorgeous clothes that she might like.”

After her break up with Zechs, Virg decided to leave the preventers and ‘re-join’ society. She took up a job in a popular clothes shop in the main shopping center of one of the L4 colonies.

Heero looked back at the wavy haired brunette.
‘Since she got a job at that shop, she’s become just like any normal teenage girl. You wouldn’t think she’s a trained killer and pilot. Do you think she’s forgotten how to fight if the occasion called for it?’ he thought to himself.
“Heero.. Hello Heero.. Earth to Heero..” Virg said, waving her hand in front of Heero’s face. Heero shook his head and left the daze he was in.

“Ah.. yeah.. fine. Let’s go to your shop. Maybe you can find a nice dress for Relena’s party. Not that you need me to pick one out for you,” he mumbled. Virg took Heero’s hand and led him to the shop she worked at. They finallacheached the shop. Heero saw at the top of the doorway were bright blue neon lights that spelled out ‘Sky Rocket’.

Wufei got dressed after Duo’s departure and headed for his laptop.
‘Hmm.. maybe Trowa and Quatre have written. Haven’t heard from them in a long time. Ever since Milliardo went back to Noin, he doesn’t write back anymore. Maybe he’ll be at Relena’s.’ Wufei thought to himself as the laptop booted up.
‘You Have 2 Messages’ the screen flashed. Wufei opened the first one. It was from Sally.

Hey Wu. Long time no talk. Relena invited me to her 17th, but I don’t know if I want to go. I feel so old compared to you guys. She said It’s going to be a typical 17 year old’s party, and not like a boring social meeting with world leaders. I thought that boring social’s are what she calls fun. Weling ing your dancing shoes Wu, I’m expecting you to ask to dance with me. See you there!

Wufei smiled and hit the reply button.

Dear Sally. Hope to see you at Relena’s. And you’re not old! You’re only 22. It’s only 4 or 5 years older than us pilots! Have you heard from Noin and Zechs? I hear Virg is trying to get Heero and Relena together. Since the wars, they kind of drifted off a bit. Oh! Did you get Relena a present? I might go halvies with Duo. He’s going to ask Hilde for present advice. Well take care and I’ll see you at the party.

Wufei hit the send button. Then checked the second message.
‘It’s from Dr J. Why would he be sending me a message.’ Wufei thought to himself. He opened up the file. Up popped a picture of a little girl and in the corner a little screen popped up. It was Dr J. He’d made a video message.
“This message is to any of you pilots whom I hope still check your messages! It seems that not everyone believes in peace anymore. This little girl is the key to everlastpeacpeace. If she is taken out, then hopefully for now, peace can be attained. Don’t be discouraged about taking out a child. It’s what you boys have been trained to do. I didn’t send this message to Virginia, as I believe she wont be able to perform accordingly. I’ve looked into her records and she’s become a proven member of society, which I highly doubt she’lnt tnt to leave. Use the information I’ve given you wisely. Next week the little girl is being transported to the following co-ordinates. You boys take her out there. You know how to contact me if you need.” Dr J explained. The screen disappeared and Wufei closed the file.

“We all fought so hard for peace. Who would want to wreak it all now?” Wufei said aloud.

“Hey Hilde!” Duo shouted. He’d reached her house to find her working out the front in the scrap yard. Hilde looked up and smiled.
“Duo!” she screamed as she ran towards him. She reached Duo and hugged him tightly. Duo tried to lift Hilde slightly, while still trying to manage to hold his backpack with the other hand.

“So what have you been up to Hilde?” Duo said as he put her back do “We “Well I’ve been working at the scrap yard as usual. Oh! We have to buy Relena a present. She sent me and invite too! Can you believe it! I never would’ve thought I’d become friends with her.. I feel like a normal teenager again!” she squealed. Duo laughed. He couldn’t help laughing when Hilde got excited like that.
“You haven’t changed a bit! Now come on! Lets go find Relena a present!” he said, pulling Hilde towards the bus stop.
“Duo!! I cant run that fast!” Hilde sqed. ed.

“Heero, should I dress up a bit more? I don’t know if it’s a formal party or just dressy!” Virg fussed. Heero looked at Virg’s clothes. She wore a black tight dress that gathered at one side so that the left leg showed a bit more than the right. Underneath she had a pair of white pants that have a criss-cross ribbon that tie’s up the side of the leg. Virg looked down at her own clothes.
“Well if I’m going to party, I might as well be comfortable!” Virg said.
Heero nodded.
“I don’t know about the pants though. What about the white dress you had? Wear that without the pants,” Heero commented. “You have two dresses the same, the black one you have now, and a white one. Wear the white one I reckon.”
Virg nodded in agreement and headed to her room to get changed.
Heero turned to the full length mirror and admired his black pants and dark blue shirt Virg picked out for him. He left it untucked and unbuttoned the top two buttons.
“Mission accepted,” He giggled to himself. Virg came back into the room and saw Heero looking into the mirror.
“Relena wont be able to resist you Heero!” Virg said proudly. Heero smiled slightly.
“We better go now or we’ll be late. Did you pick up the present?” Heero said, heading for he door. Virg followed Heero.
“The store owner said we should pick it up on the way to the party,” Virg said as she headed out the door.
“Alright. Let’s go get it now.” Heero closed the door behind them and they left for Relena’s mansion.

“Happy Birthday Relena!” Quatre screamed as he entered the large ballroom. He ran towards Relena and gave her a big hug. Trowa followed Quatre silently and stopped just behind Quatre.
“Happy Birthday Relena. Hope you like the present we got you,” Trowa said. He handed a small pink box with bright pink ribbon around it to Relena. She smiled and opened the pink box.
“Oh! Quatre! Trowa! It’s beautiful!” Relena exclaimed. “I needed a new necklace! Thank you!” Quatre took the silver necklace from Relena’s hands.
“Here. Let me put it on for you.” He said. Relena nodded and turned around so he could put the necklace on her neck.
“It suits you Relena,” Trowa said.
“Thank you Trowa,” she ied.ied. The butler walked up to Relena holding a cordless phone.
“Telephone Miss Relena,” he mumbled. Relena turned back to Trowa and Quatre.
“Excuse me for a moment. Go and enjoy yourselves guys,” She said.
The two guys nodded and watched Relena walk across the large ballroom and towards the door. The ballroom was about the size of a basketball court. It wasn’t the largest room in the mansion she owned, but large enough to house a 17th birthday party. There were streamers and balloons everywhere. The room was full of teenagers. There wasn’t a single old diplomat in sight. Even Dorothy decided to rock up. Relena had also hired a Dj to play all the latest tunes.

“She’s really changed, huh Trowa?” Quatre commented as he looked aroune roe room.
“You mean the party?” Trowa asked back.
“I mean how she’s decided to hold this party. Everyone’s in party gear and comfortable. There’s not a formal dress or orderve in sight. I think Relena’s tried to make this party into a typical 17th. I just can’t find the tea..” Quatre drifted off as he looked around the room. Trowa rolled his eyes.
“Come on Winner. Forget your tea for a minute and lets go grab a beer!” Trowa scolded as he pulled Quatre towards the tables of food and drink along the wall.

Relena exited the ballroom and stood just outside the door.
“Hello. Relena speaking,” She said. It was a female voice on the line.
“Hey Relena! Happy Birthday! It’s me, Virginia.”
“What’s wrong Virg? Aren’t you coming to my party?” Relena exclaimed. Virg giggled.
“NO silly! Of course I’m coming. Actually we need you to come outside for a sec. The present we got you is kind of too hard to wrap, so we need you to come outside and get it! See yairg irg hung up.
“We?” Relena said to herself. “Oh well, I guess I have to go outside then.”

Relena walked along the hallways of her mansion and reached the front door. One of her maids was standing beside the door to welcome the guests. The maid opened the door and nodded her head. Virg was standing on the other side of the door.

“Happy birthday girlie!” Virg shouted and hugged Relena. Virg pulled back so Relena could see to the bottom of the large stairs that ran down towards the driveway. There was a red jeep parked along the bottom of the stairs. Heero got out of the jeep and stood next to it, leaving the car door open.
“Heero’s my birthday present?” Relena raised one eyebrow and smiled. Virg giggled.
“He can be! But we also got you something else. Here boy!!” Virg put two fingers in her mouth and whistled. A Labrador puppy barked as it jumped out of the open car door and ran as fast as it could up the large staircase. Virg picked it up as it reached her and Relena.

“Happy Birthday Relena! I hope you like him!” Virg said as she gave him to Relena. The puppy licked Relena’s face.
“I don’t know what to call him!” Relena exclaimed.
“Call him Angel.. no.. er.. oh! Gaybriel is a good name!” Virg said.
Heero reached Virg and Relen the the top of the stairs.
“Gaybriel sounds good,” Heero said. “Happy Birthday Relena.” He bent slightly and kissed Relena on the cheek. Relena smiled.
“Thank you both! This is the best present! Come! Let’s go and enjoy the party,” Relena giggled as she tried to hold the squirming puppy with one arm and hold Heero’s hand with the other.

“Oh! I almost forgot!” Virg said, smacking herself on the head. She quickly ran back to the car to get something. When she reached Relena and Heero at the top of the stairs again, she showed Relena what she got from the car.
“You’re going to need a dog leash!” She said. Virg clipped it onto the dog’s collar and gave the end of it to Relena.
“Thanx!” Relena replied and she put the puppy down. The three of them and the puppy walked back to the party.

“Go for it Heero!” Virg nudged Heero in the side. “You haven’t really talked to Relena since we got here. It’s about time you did, so go!”
Virg left Heero standing on his own as she walked towards Duo, Hilde and Catherine (Trowa’s sister).

“Hey guys. What do you think of the party?” Virg asked.
“I think it’s cool!” Hilde squealed. She looked really excited. Virg smiled.
“You know D, we haven’t caught up in a long time. Are you still at the x987237 colony?” Virg asked. Hilde nodded.
“Yeah I am. I hear you’re working at Sky Rocket now. I love their clothes! We have to go shopping together one day. We’ll take Catherine with us too. What do you think Catherine?” Hilde asked as she turned to Catherine. Catherine nodded.
“Sounds like fun. Just let me know when.”

Duo frowned and crossed his arms. He lifted his nose up in the air and huffed.
“Why can’t I come?” He grumbled. The girls giggled. Virg put her hand on Duo’s shoulder.
“Come on Duo! It’s just this one time! Besides, it’s sort of a girl’s day out thing. We’ll go out somewhere together another day! Alright?” Virg said re-assuringly. Duo returned back to his old self again and smiled. At that moment, a slow song came on. Virg looked at the American boy’s violet eyes through his large brown bangs. Duo lookeck. ck.
“Wanna dance Virg?” Duo asked. Virg smiled and they went out to the middle of the dance floor.

rea reached a small open space and began dancing. Virg realized that next to them was Heero and Relena. Virg smiled at them. Relena didn’t see, but Heero smiled back. He saw that Virg was dancing with Duo and raised one eyebrow. Duo saw the look on Heero’s face.
“What’s up with Heero?” ask asked Virg. She giggled.
“I don’t know.. something in his eye maybe!?” she giggled aga

Virg rested her head on Duo’s shoulder and he rested his cheek on the side of her head. He looked down at her brown wavy hair and curled his finger around a lock of her hair.
“Old memories,” Duo said softly. Virg nodded slightly.
“An angel dancing with death,” He said.

**flash back**

The music changed instantly, to a slow, peaceful song. Duo looked at the girl’s face as he danced with her. She looked of European descent.. Greek, or Italian maybe. Her shoulder length brown hair was braided in about 10 long thin braids that ran down her head from the fringe to the base of the neck. She put her chin on Duo’s shoulder. He rested his head on the side of hers as they danced. He could see on the back of her black sleeveless T-shirt that there were silver angel wings printed on the back.
‘Pretty’ he thought to himself.

“Funny isn’t it?” the girl whispered in Duo’s ear.
“What is?” Duo replied. He was confused as to what was so funny.
“It’s funny.. An angel dancing with death. Shinigami and The guardian angel dancing together.” She said.
Duo let go of his embrace of the girl. He held her arms with his hands, his grip tightening. The expression on his face showed confusion, yet as though he was thinking about something.

“Are you the Guardian Angel?” Duo asked.
The girl nodded, smiling innocently. “What? Were you expecting someone else? Maybe expecting a guy?”
Duo grabbed her hand and led her to the table where the other four pilots were sitting.
“Guess who I found?” Duo saidudlyudly.

“A new girlfriend?” Quatre said jokingly.
Heero’s eyes widened.
“Take another guess.” Duo said.
Duo turned to face the girl.
“This is him.. er her.. the Guardian Angel.” Duo announced proudly.

** end of flashback**

Virg pulled her head back from Duo’s sder.der.
“Remember the club?” Virg said softly.
“How can I forget. It’s when we first met.” He replied. At that instant, a more up-beat song filled the room. Duo smiled cheekily.
“Think you can handle a faster song?” He smiled. Virg smiled back.
“I think I should ask you the same thing.. Do you think you can catch up with me?” she said. Virg and Duo both began to pick up the pace, swinging each other around and laughing. They looked like 2 little kids when they don’t know the steps. As Duo spun Virg under his arm. Virginia saw Wufei and Sally hand in hand. They were walking towards Virg and Duo.

“Hey WU! Hey Sally!” Virg squealed as Duo spun her around.
“How are you Virg?” Sally replied. “We haven’t seen each other in a long time!”
Wufei ignored the conversation Virg and Sally were having and looked at Duo like his did during the wars. His face showed anger or determination, Duo couldn’t decide which.
“Maxwell we have to talk. Now,” Wufei said sternly. Duo hadn’t seen this side of Wufei since the wars. “First we have to get Heero, Quatre and Trowa. I have to talk to all of you.”

Duo nodded and turned to Virg and Sally.
“Excuse us girls. Man to man business,” He said jokingly. “Why don’t you 2 go talk to Hilde and Catherine. They look neglected,” He said as he walked off with Wufei.
Virg looked back at Sally and shrugged. The two girls then left the dance floor and headed for Hilde and Catherine.

“So what’s this all about Chan?” Duo sounded annoyed. The five ex-gundam pilots stood out on the balcony that looked out to the beach. The sun had already set, and millions of stars could be seen. Duo walked to the concrete railing on the balcony and leaned back on it, looking back at the pilots. He looked past the pilots and through the open balcony doors.
“I wanted to dance with Virg,” Duo continued. “So try and make this quick please!”

“I gather none of you checked your messages lately,” Wufei said as he looked at each pilot. A look of confusion could be seen on all their faces.
“What are you talking about Wufei?” Quatre asked.
“I received a message from Dr J. He’s given us a mission,fei fei began. He pulled a piece of paper from his back pocket. It was a photo of a 7 year old girl.
“He wants us to take her out. He said that if she lives, there’d be no more peace in the world. Supposedly someone is using this girl as a weapon to gain control of the world sphere. He’s given us the co-ordinates of where they’re transporting the girl in three days. We have to assassinate her then.”

Heero took the picture of the girl and leaned against the railing next to Duo. Duo looked at the picture also. The little girl had bright green eyes. Her hair was red and was tied up in a ponytail. The picture only showed the girl from the shoulders up. Heero handed the photo to Trowa and Quatre.
“When the wars finished, I said that I wouldn’t kill anymore. I don’t want to kill anymore. When I fight, all I can see is that girl and her dog, and how I couldn’t save them.” Heero looked through the balcony doors into the party. He could see Relena holding the puppy in her arms as she talked to Virg, Hilde and the other girls. He smiled slightly.

Duo followed Heero’s line of sight and saw Relena and the puppy. Duo sighed. And put his hand on Heero’s shoulder.
“I know how you feel buddy. But we have to do this. If we have to we’ll talk to Dr J for some more info. I don’t like ide idea of killing anymore than you do. I don’t feel like I have to anymore-“ Duo got cut off by Wufei.
“But we still do have to kill. It’s what our purpose in life was. We were all taught to seek out the enemy and destroy them, to attain peace. Now we have to do it again. If you wont help then I’ll do it alone!” Wufei shouted as he turned to head back to the party.

Quatre blocked the door with his arms.
“Stop Wufei Chan. No-one said they weren’t coming with you. We’re all going to come. When do we have to leave?” He said.
Wufei smiled slightly.
“Tomorrow we leave. We have to go back to space,” He said. The ever silent Trowa spoke up.
“Why isn’t Virginia involved in this?”
Wufei turned to look at Virg who was still inside.
“Dr J said not to involve her. He thinks she’ll be a danger to the mission now. He sees her as being weak, now that she’s gone back into society.”

Duo stood from his position on the railing.
“That’s bullshit Chan!” Duo shouted. “She’s still just as competent at the rest of us. None of us have been in combat since the wars, why would she be any different?”
Wufei looked at Duo angrily.
“Drop it Maxwell. These are the orders that were given to us. We leave tomorrow,” Wufei said sternly. He turned and walked back to inside, leaving the other four pilots behind.
