Chapter 5
Chapter 5
After waiting for a week, and resuming my training, I waited for the five boys next to the lake. They were told the rules: ‘Anything goes…No cheep shots… First to fall in the lake looses.’ They all signed and gave me the papers saying they read and agreed. Heero was the first to go, as agreed by the sheets. I thought he fought well, but I could see the planning in his movements. He was using the Zero system, and I remembered building it. I remembered how every possible attack I created came from using calculus and physics. By combining the two, the best technology for initiating true battles and multiple outcomes was ready and tested.y imy implemented it into my brain, allowing the souls within me to access the information and train accordingly. I found out what his attacks were before he even used them, and sent him into the lake within ten minutes. The other four looked at me in shock, and I simply said, “Next.”
Quatre came at me next. His attacks were similar to Heero’s but a little slower. He was trying to fight using a mix of instinct and judgment, and it was not for him. His movements were well timed, but they were not at the standards that I knew he could attain. He slowly went to his natural fighting ways, and I was ready for it. I continued to let him have his fun, but after a few more minutes, I was bored and sent him into the lake as well. Wufei was next in the one-on-one battles, but he wasn’t trying. He was starting to piss me off, so, to get him in the “mood” I threw several fireballs at him. It worked. Within seconds, he was trying to knock me down, but, like the two before him, his moves were planned. His style of fighting was more martial arts, but that is choreography at its best. I could match and excel every one of his attacks, making his anger ever evident. He did not want to fight me and be beat by a woman. So, he to went into the lake, but he sent a dagger through my abdomen as he fell. Shit was all I could think of when I collapsed to the ground. Duo was by my side in an instant, and Quatre was bitching at Wufei for throwing a cheap shot as he was falling. After arguing for a good twenty minutes, a settlement came fourth, against my will, that the last two fights would take place when I was feeling better. However, I demanded a rematch against Wufei first, considering what he did to me.
Duo came in to see how my wounds were, the following morning. I was pretending to be mad that I could not continue the battles, but I was secretly glad, since he almost reopened an old wound. Just before Duo began I said, “Hey, do you think Wufei works with OZ, considering that he pulls a stunt like that?” Within a moment, his hand was on my forehead and I soon heard a sigh of relief. “If he worked with OZ, we would know.” I nodded and let him redress my wounds. As he was leaving, I looked out the window and said thanks, but I also unknowingly said aloud, “I hope it’s Duo that wins tomorrow.” By unknowingly speaking aloud, I missed the smile that graced his lips, asleftleft the room. After a few more days of resting, the matches were to be continued. I eliminated Wufei in sheer moments, due to my pent up anger against him, and showing my true strength.
Trowa was up next, and I finally got a little bit of a challenge. His weapon isn’t called Heavy Arms for nothing. He shot almost all of his ammunition at me, and was very nimble. He was loaded with missiles and several loads of machine gun shells. He believed in the first law of combat, which is to get the first attack. He seemed to use gymnastics, and acrobatics for his twirls and leaps. In the mist of jumping over me, I got him square in the chest with a blast of ice, knocking him off course. He managed to finish off his ammo, before I knocked him into the lake, letting me breathe a bit before Duo’s attack. I landed beside Sarah and transformed back, flashing Trowa a smile. “You know, I haven’t had a workout like that in years. Thanks.” He looked at me as if I had lost my mind, before he shrugged it off. I looked at Duo, after regaining much of my energy and strength, and he said, “Ready to loose?” I gave him a wink and transformed saying, “Come on then, little boy, show me what ya got.” I didn’t realize that by fighting him, I bit off more than I could chew.
I dodged his first attack with ease, but he was a Cracker Jack box, which meant I couldn’t pinpoint his rhythm. I got lucky and caught onto small patterns, but soon, had to ron mon my mind and my gut. He used his scythe like an extended arm, and he almost killed me a few times, but he seemed to remember at the last second who I was. My mind kept going back to Professor G. I remembered how he had trained the best pilot for the Death Scythe and convinced him to join in this war. Just as I dodged his jet-propelled hand, I was knocked into the lake with the end of his shaft. I felt myself change back, and heard Quatre yell something, but I darkness sundeunded me as the feeling water grew around my face.
I woke up to something stroking my cheek. Since I was too tired to speak, I opened my eyes to see a dark room. I opened my mouth, but a finger covered it saying, “Shh. You need rest. I didn’t mean to hit you that hard.” I looked over at my companion and saw Duo sitting there. He had a guilty look on his face, and I gave him a weak smile. I saw the smile return, but his eyes were still worried as I fell back asleep. I woke up again to a hand on my stomach a bia bit of weight on my shoulder. I nearly jumped off the bed when I saw Duo lying beside me, but restrained myself since he looked so peaceful. I slid out from under him and went to my desk. I decided to continue my drawing of Duo and managed to finish it. Just as I was putting it away, I heard, “Now that is a picture.” I slammed the book shut and spun around. Duo was smirking at me, as I glared daggers at him. “How much did you see?” My tone was cold and unforgiving, but it affechim him differently. The guilty look came back to his face, and I began to worry. “Duo, what’s wrong?” I put my hand on his arm, only to have him jerk it away. “You almost drowned! That’s what’s wrong!” His sudden snap made me run to my bed and curl into a ball. I began to shiver as a new memory came to mind. I was in a room filled with chains, whips and knives. I was shackled to the wall, and was being hit and beaten. I shrieked and felt someone holding me lightly as the vision faded. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to yell.” I pulled him closer and whispered, “Make them stop. They hurt so much.” I could tell he was confused, so I simply said, “I need to remember everything, or I’ll go insane.” The room was silent for a moment before I felt his hand on my chin, tilting my face up to see in my eyes. I don’t know what he saw, but what registered next was the fact that he was kissing me.
Before I had a chance to warn him, the memories passed through my mind, I tried to pull away, but he held me closer to him. I felt the muscles beneats shs shirt, and I could feel the blood coming from wounwounds that the memories were inflicting on him. Tears trickled down my face as his memories surfaced after mine. He didn’t tell me everything, as I had expected, but only parts of his past. Within moments of our minds blending, we collapsed onto the bed. If I had any sense at that point and time, I would have a n a note on the door that said do dis disturb.
I woke to a shriek and two people yelling. I groggily opened my eyes and saw Heero at my desk, holding something. “Don’t open that.” My voice was ragged, but it caught everyone’s attention. Before the bombardment of questions came, Sarah said, “What do you remember?” A small smile crossed my lips and I said, “Everything.” I saw the look on her face, and it was happy. Turning to everyone she said, “I’ll answer some of your questions; Heero, leave the book, now to the kitchen. Heero, I said…” He put the book down and followed the others. As Sarah was closing the door she said, “Don’t forget to ask him if he wants the predestined thing now or never.” I nodded and looked at my “God”. He was the one I wanted, lucky me, I think.
He woke up a few minutes later, but my head was in the crook of his neck, trying not to nibble on his earlobe. I felt him stir and sat up. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.” Ie hie him a smile that left no worries, and said, “No problem, I was already awake. I was just too comfortable to move.” My sincerity made me look at the sheets before I could look at him again. He too had a small blush and before I could speak he said, “Why did I see your past and why did I relive mine?” I gulped and told him about the legend. After hearing the explanation, a dawn of realization came over him. We were quite for a little while longer before I said, “You have one week after the winning of the duel to decide what you want me to do. However, if you do not, I go insane, kill everyone, and then commit suicide. It’s a fail safe device, kind of.” Duo looked at me and said, “Then we just won’t kill everyone, just those who wish to oppress the colonies, or disrupt our peaceful lives.” I looked up at him in disbelief. He did not want people to die. He has been around death for a long time, but he was the God of Death. He should have wanted deaI waI was confused, and to make it worse, he said, “I don’t want you to loose control and have the possibility of you hurting someone that you’ll regret hurting later on.” My face took on a happy, but still, a confused look. “I care too much about your sanity.” His words touched me deeply, and I only got over my shock, after he left the room.
